Jobs/Vacancies / Crazy Interview Questions (true Life Experiences) by rahmansanusi: 5:01pm On Sep 19, 2014
The picture down there reminds of some bull***t job seekers take! True life experience, no joke!

We all no very few federal parastatals put out job vacancies to the public notice... and even when they do, some candidates are already rest assured of getting a direct entry without any hassle. A couple of years back a friend (fresh HND graduate, upper credit in Food Science and Technology) got into d labour market....after about a year and half of job search and nothing seemed to come forth. His uncle had told him there was an opening in a renowned federal research institute in lagos and he had put in word for him wit one of his superiors so he should expect to be calledup for an interview anytime soon. About three months went by and that day finally came. He had set out to put in his best (knowing that would be the last straw....if he didnt get that job he'd pick up any job ranging from driving, gatekeeping or even bus conducting cos he was fed up living off the little money he got from people + insults). He came out successful and was told he had qualified and was shortlisted for the next and final interview. On the day of d interview, he got to know that they were all grouped with respect to their state of residency .... finally residents of abeokuta were called upon ....white A4 papers were given out, they were told to write down their data i.e name, address....and wait for further instructions. And the question came....HOW MANY MARKETs ARE THERE IN ABEOKUTA? (The first thing that came into his head was... Ha! àwon olóríburúkú tún ti wá mi dé bí....olóun gbà mí....irú u question orí burúkú wo lèyi ...sé e sínwí ni? ||meaning so dese people wey dey do me still follow me reach here....God help me... whick kin question b ds....una dey crace?). He wasnt sure if he heard right so he called upon one of the invigilators close by and asked if it was a joke...and the reply he got was 'you have less than 5minutes' ...he then called upon the attention on of the interviewer and asked....Sir, do you mean how many major markets in abeokuta? And the reply he got was....u heard me right the first time! He just scribbled down something, submitted and left...a couple of people stood, hissed, tore the paper and left. He got to know later on that it was just a trick to reduce their number. Patience they say is a virtue! He got the job at the end.

SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCES ON THIS SUBJECT MATTER. Little bullsh**ting doesnt hurt!

Business / Here's How I Sell An Idea by rahmansanusi: 1:35pm On Sep 16, 2014
As someone who has been called an idiot more often than an innovator, I know how it feels to pitch an idea before its time or to someone who’s just not into it. But ideas make way for progress; they happen long before you can show someone the money. I’ve come to believe that putting out ideas is my obligation.

I once worked for a brilliant man who wasn’t afraid to offer an idea before its time. More than half of them were nonsensical but he had some incredible gems. Here’s what I learned from him: Just put it out there. As Einstein said, “If at first the idea is not absurd, there is no hope for it.”

But you have to be prepared to defend your ideas. Here is the process I’ve found helpful:

Shelter the seedling: It starts as a notion, something that you can’t even articulate. Maybe it comes to you on a walk (my favorite idea generator), or on the train, or it builds on top of something someone else said. An idea rarely happens as the result of a mandatory team brainstorm. Noodle it, let it breathe and build. Ignore it and see if it still comes back.

Give it a stress test: Ask yourself, do I believe in this idea and am I willing to appear foolish by telling others? Critically, do I feel so passionately about this idea that I want it to happen with or without me? Then do your homework and make sure the idea solves a meaningful problem. Finally, ask others to help make the idea better – never ask, is this a good idea?

Tell it: You can’t sell it if you can’t tell it. This is where things often fall apart. I’ve seen many an entrepreneur or creative executive fall short because they can’t sell a vision for the idea. I believe if you can tell a compelling enough story you’ll capture hearts and minds, which then allows you to build a sound business plan.

Use it: “The value of an idea lies in the using of it”, Thomas Edison said. Once you sell it, you need to do it. In the parlance of entrepreneurs, you need to create a Minimum Viable Product. Then ask yourself, can it scale?

Don’t give up. I’ve heard no more than yes and I’ve seen people take negative feedback and give up on an idea. Do you believe in your idea? Then keep going. Find more people to share the idea, to bring it to life. Sometimes the timing is wrong. The company is wrong. The boss is wrong. Hold on. I just “sold” an idea that I’ve been incubating and selling for SIX YEARS!

Here’s closing inspiration for you. Far better than anything I can write is this creative spot from our partners at BBDO. It didn’t fit in with any specific campaign, but David Lubars believed in the idea... with great results.
