Properties / Re: Why Did Nigerians Stop Using Louvers Windows by rebelng: 10:32pm On Mar 17
I found myself asking this very same question today and looking at the silly responses on here affirm my position that we have a culture problem in this country. We consistently put aesthetics over practicality with everyone wanting to be on the new fad.

Louvers are without a doubt the best window style for any practical application in this climate.

1. Ventilation.
2. Privacy
3. Usability in the rain
4. Cost.

The only area where they fall short is sound proofing and even there, they are still better than sliding windows which have become the norm for budget builds.

Can I get in for a Masters in Information technology with a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering? The website doesn't have it listed and I find that kinda odd.

Hi Guys,

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic to work on a lexus Gs 350, 2008. I'm having what i believe to be leaking injectors and want to do a comprehensive engine service as well as a bunch of suspension part replacements and transmission service.

If you're going to divide the south into East, West and South, you should know that the North is also divided into East, West and Central. Let's be sensible pls.

North West, Kano
North East, Borno, Bauchi
North Central, FCT

Car Talk / Re: How Good Is Oven Baked Painting by rebelng: 10:45am On Sep 06, 2017
Just to correct the opinion that you shouldn't wash your car with soap... bullshit.

Soap doesn't do a damn thing to your paint. Cars are meant to be waxed periodically, the wax sitting above the clear coat and serving as an added layer of protection. Naturally, whether you wash your car with soap or not, the wax would wear rub off over time. Soapy water would wash your wax right off but i'd rather have no wax on my clear coat that scrub my paint with sand and grit.

Complaining about interview questions?

There are no wrong questions, only bad answers. If someone tells you you shouldn't wear a stripped shirt to an interview, you tell him you didn't know. Hell you thank him for saving you from future embarasment!

If someone asks you why you graduated with a 2.2, you tell him why. Heck you should be grateful you are given the opportunity to defend yourself rather than be judged behind your back.

Politics / The Child Marriage Scandal by rebelng: 11:59am On Jul 25, 2013
Under-age marriage, another example of general idiocy amongst Nigerians and online media.

In the beginning, constitution review. The senate meets to vote on some of the provisions of the constitution review committee. So it turns out the review committee flagged the wordings of a section of the constitution. This section, outlined provisions for renunciation of Nigerian citizenship. I quote...

section 1 S29(1) Any citizen of Nigeria of full age who wishes to renounce his Nigerian citizenship shall make a declaration in the prescribed manner for the renunciation

S29 (4): “For the purposes of subsection (1) of this section,

(a) ‘full age’ means the age of eighteen years and above;

(b) ‘any woman who is married shall be deemed to be of full age’

The motion was that the provision (b) of the act be removed based on grounds of it being discriminatory as it specifically mentions the word woman.

Now, for those of us who can read and have a 3 digit IQ, in what way does the provision (b) legalize child marriages? In what way does removing this provision make child marriages illegal? Pls tell me because I can not see the logic!

The logic by which useless online media outlets (spearheaded by the Jonathanian propagandist machine, ironnically named "Hope for Nigeria"wink continue to assault and molest senators who voted against its removal.

The logic by which they continue to label northern senators as child molesters.

The logic by which they continue to divert public attention from the important things like the federal government inspired rivers state crisis, the ASUU and looming Nlc strikes and the billion stil being looted daily from federal purses. Blame the nations woes and anybody but the president.

The stupidity and complete ignorance of the emergency activists campaigning and petitioning under the ‪#‎childnotbride‬ hashtag, and flooding the internet with photo-shopped images of mosques beside pregnant teens is further revealed when you consider that the Nigerian constituion, as reviewed in 2003 has already curtailed their feers.

The Child Right Act, I quote.

“No person under the age of 18 years is capable of contracting a valid marriage, and accordingly, any marriage so contracted is null and void and of no effect whatsoever”.

22. 1. “No parent, guardian or any other person shall betroth a child to any person”

2. A betrothal in contravection of subsection (1) of this section is null and void."

Infact, the act goes further to prescribe punishment to violators.

"23. A person (a) who marries a child; or

(b) to whom a child is betrothed ; or

(c) who promotes the marriage of a child; or

(d) who betroths a child commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine of N,500,000 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira) or imprisonment for a term of five years or to both such fine and imprisonment."

However, I have been made to understand that the child right act does not automatically apply across the country and must be adopted in each state by their respective house of representatives. Even then, this act cannot be fully implemented as the Nigerian constitution, as contained in section 61, is restricted from overriding Sharia or Customary law.

.........................................................

The second part of this piece, the assault on Yerima.

It has become standard practice amongst the pro jonathan media houses to quote men of Northern origin out of context in their mission to cause division amongst tribal and religion lines in preparation for their Messiahs re election in 2015 so i was not surprised when I saw quotes of Yerima saying that he can give his daughter out for marriage at age 6.

Now, there is no falsehood in that quote. He actually said that, but the question must be asked, is that all he said? A rational mind would ask himself, "In what context was this statement made?" During the interview, Yerima went further to clarify that Nigerian culture allows parents to betroth children at birth and that such marriages would not be consummated until the girl in question comes of age and gives her consent. He made sure to point out that Islamic law does not permit a husband to rape his wife.

Now most of us have a general dislike for Yerima since he wed a 13 year old girl a couple of years ago. However, should we let that cloud our common sense? as Yerima himself pointed out in his interview, marriage is not all about sex. Historically in virtually all cultures of the world, including the US, UK, India, China and Africa, child marriage at birth was standary practice. Marriages were forged for the purpose of unity and societal cohesion. In fact, in ancient rome, the eldest male member of a family had the right to give out any member of his family in marriage to who ever he pleases. In other words, if a woman were to be widowed, her eldest son gets to pick her next husband!

It must be said that the concept of gender equality is one of the stupid cultural anomalies that the west is today trying to force on the rest of the world. I say stupid because even the very thought of it is infact stupid. There can never be gender equality, what the world needs is GENDER JUSTICE!

it must be pointed out that the art of giving women out for marriage is a cultural issue. Even Mary the mother of Jesus was 14 when she was married to Joseph and less than 15 years of age when she gave birth to Jesus!

Any argument that women should not be given out for marriage would be an attack against a peoples culture and such an individual would be a Tribalist. Tribalist here meaning the tribal equivalent of a Racist.

#ChildNotBride, shame on you all.
