Right, I've seen the attainment of a degree change some women. Sometimes a bitchy attitude is escalated by attaining a degree, some women start to think they're gods.

stop the bitterness.

as for the doctor - maybe she wants a man that she can control - as for me i want a real man that why i married my husband.

i earn more than him (for now that is), probably better educated and have a professional career, however i still cook and clean and maintain my position in the home as a woman and allow him to be a man so all this ur talk is just BS to me my dear. when he stepped to me he came correct therefore i give back in a correct manner. as for the independence thing - he is very proud he has a wife that he can comfortably leave for business anyway in the world and his home will still be intact.

I agree with you hun. I feel some men are intimidated by this and are using the culture thing to still hold girls down. In a few years hopefully we can eradicate these nonsense traditionalist views. Other men use their money but if the girls collect the money, they cry gold-digger. grin

Well independent is better than being called a gold-digger by you men undecided. I think its a complex issue here I dont know any girl who acts like a bitch just because she has a degree certificate. Maybe these guys are approaching the girls horribly, step up your game, beef up your swag, times have changed and girls are not impressed by toasting tips that may have worked in the 70s grin

TOO DAMN FUNNY

Some Nigerian women, once they get a college degree <even something as small as an Associates>, they begin to Shakara like no man business,  especially the babes abroad.

Does being an educated woman automatically mean that you are marriage worthy ?

Why do some Nigerian women think that because they are educated that automatically means that they are marriage material,

Pls ooh, STOP deceiving yourselves and work on your character.  Some of them start to do one kind of Shakara like that ?! YUCK!

excuse me - so what was ur point here - or is it that its so late in th day that i'm not getting it?
Romance / Re: Does Education Make You A Good Wife? by redsky1: 11:23pm On Oct 04, 2009
poster, character can be good or bad whether a woman is educated or not.

some men do not even come correct and then expect heaven and earth. abeg, like i keep banging on men need the confidence and a lot of these things will not be a problem

i keep saying it if u find a nice, homely, humble, educated, God fearing, cultured and intelligent women and u have confidence all these things u see as issues will not be there.

what character are u even talking about self. like all u men are perfect self.
Romance / Re: Does Education Make You A Good Wife? by redsky1: 11:17pm On Oct 04, 2009
can u just imagine the day ur husband is in a bad mood or even worse starts with holding money from u and u don't even have money to buy sanitary towel for yourself - chineke!!!!!!!!! God forbid, my father did not send me to school for such nonsense.

look men up ur game and start building confidence - using useless culture to dominate women does not make u superior to women - when u have confidence nothing will shake u.
Romance / Re: Does Education Make You A Good Wife? by redsky1: 11:11pm On Oct 04, 2009
no i can't that's why i am writing. KMT

has any woman come out and said that being educated makes her marriage material cos from my experience the opposite seems to be true (especially in Nigeria) i mean a lot of insecure men cannot handle an educated woman so marry semi - illiterates or women who have a degree for mouth but nothing upstairs to demonstrate that they have actually spent a good few years in higher education.

if i man is confident in himself whether his wife has PHD that will not move him - and when a woman meets such a man she will not even have the heart or face to do any shakara.

my views.

can i read?? very funny

Fashion / Re: Fake/replica Designer Bags - Would You? by redsky1: 10:24pm On Oct 04, 2009
in a country where people are starving and orphans are hungry i find it amazing that women can pay over 70k for a handbag donate money to dubious pastors (sorry i meant churches) but can't go out and buy a bag of rice for orphans or an identifed widow. na wah o

don't get me wrong people - i love my designer bag like the rest of you all but i think my (excess) money can be used for better and more worthwhile things. b4 u start saying na bad belle dey drive this comment, please i have and only believe in quality hence why i have so few bags. i tend to find u get what u pay for - buy quality the bag will last for years.

i don't do fake by the way - if u can't afford an original then the bag is not for you yet.

I can't stand so called men of God conning desperate people. Another thing that annoys me about our people - is tagging people as witches and wizards.

i think its best to just get the remi and brazillian hair and wear a weave - naija heat is too much for wig (thats what my hairdresser says anyway)

lace front is not £500 anymore the price is coming down.

and yes it is by force that we women must look nice - LOL

Politics / Re: Toxic Waste From The West (uk) Dumped In Africa by redsky1: 1:50pm On Sep 18, 2009
what exactly is your point?

that african governments are to blame for dumping toxic waste from abroad on their soil? or its not at all possible that these companies lie to governments as to what is actually on the ships, no that can't possibly the case.

just like these so called companies here in the uk claiming to recycle old computers but actually selling it in the developing world - yes life is that simple. if these compaines cared they would dump the waste in their own back yard.
Politics / Toxic Waste From The West (uk) Dumped In Africa by redsky1: 1:14pm On Sep 18, 2009
I came across this yesterday and have looked further into this story. What has shocked me and made me even start a topic was reading the e-mail evidence produced by the guardian (UK) paper and discovering that the company planned to dispose this waste in Nigeria (they subsequently dumped it in Ivory Coast). So African life is worth nothing to the west, hmmmmmmm. I am shocked and disgusted but not actually surprised.

mrsb and poster, i'm not white but having lived in the UK my whole life and faced with the move to Nigeria to be with my husband very soon, i am so grateful for what you have written here.

The same thing you have mentioned is what i was crying on the phone to my sister recently during a visit when I was in Nigeria. as for the attitude - don't even sweat apologising - the women back home (young and old - cos my mum gets it as well) have some sort of complex they like to hide behind some sort of stupid attitude (and no I'm not going to apologise cos I'm talking thru experience).

One of the things for me is the taste of the foods we have here that they sell there, for example biscuits, chocolate and cake. i seriously see it as a way to ensure i don't put on weight cos everything tastes different, my husband - bless him, buys all the stuff for me but i think he is getting fed up of my throwing away all these snacks cos it tastes different.

I'm used to some of the poor infrastructure and behaviour of people back home, although i seriously have to drop my oyinbo time thing and start chilling out when people don't stick to time and use NT - Nigerian time. Luckily I have secured a job but will not be working for a few months b4 i settle and it will be very hard from going from a very independent woman to someone who has to depend on my husband for almost everything - including buying stuff in the market - once they hear my voice - prices suddenly increase - please I'm not saying this to show off as i have tried to learn broken and speak in a more naija accent but sometimes it can't be hidden the number of times i have had a price increase on my within seconds while in Nigeria is amazing.

I know its going to be hard but to know that there are many in this situation who understand how i feel sometimes makes it less of a pain, as for people saying Nigerian men are bad - abeg some of them are wonderful like mine. Men can be bad no matter where they are from.
Travel / Re: Don't Fly Bellview! by redsky1: 5:42pm On Sep 04, 2009
I have some advice here for the people who were stranded in London (for the lagos folks sorry)

Bellview is a non-EU airline and have no problems cancelling their flights from Nigeria cos they don't need to give their passengers compensation, the story is different from an EU airport. Below is a link to a website that will help you and u can use as a basis to claim compensation and if it was me i would put in a personal injury claim as well, hurt feelings and post trumatic stress, trust me 64kg worth of luggage not turning up at my destination woul give me more than high BP.

http://www.auc.org.uk/default.aspx?catid=306&pagetype=90&pageid=4409

If your flight is cancelled you are entitled (under Regulation (EC) 261/2004) to the following;

1.  Refund or re-routing

1.  If you decide not to travel you are entitled to a refund, within seven days, of the parts of the tickets not used.  If it is a connecting flight and you have already made part of the journey and do not want  to continue with it, reimbursement of the total price of the ticket (including parts of the journey not made if the flight is no longer serving any purpose in relation to your original travel plan) within seven days and a free flight back to point of departure.

You are not entitled (under Regulation (EC) 261/2004) to reimbursement of any other components of your trip such as hotel and transfer costs

or

Re-routing to your final destination as soon as possible or, if you agree, at a later date.  (If the airline flies you to another airport in your destination city then they must pay for the transfer to the airport you were booked for or to another close-by point of your choice)

2.  Compensation

(The airline is not obliged to pay compensation if it can prove that the cancellation was caused by "extraordinary circumstances which could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken".  Such extraordinary circumstances might occur "in cases of political instability, meteorological conditions incompatible with the operation of the flight concerned, security risks, unexpected flight safety shortcomings and strikes that affect the operation of an operating air carrier".)

Length of flight  Delay to destination  Compensation due
Up to 1500km  Up to 2 hours  €125
Up to 1500km  More than 2 hours  €250
1500km to 3500km  Up to 3 Hours  €200
1500km to 3500km  More than 3 hours  €400
More than 3500km  Up to 4 hours  €300
More than 3500km  More than 4 hours  €600

3.  Assistance at the airport
Meals and refreshments in reasonable relation to waiting time

Two free telephone calls, emails, telexes or faxes

Overnight hotel accommodation and transfers

browse around the page people - educate yourself. Is it not the same arik that called me after i had booked my ticket and told me that the fare i had obtained (thru and agent) was too low and that i should pay £40 more for them to issue the ticket. I just laughed and told them my sister is a lawyer (big lie o!!!!!!!!!!!!) and i am very sure there are some leagl issues once a person enters into an agreement. After all i can't walk into DFS buy a sofa for £499 and the store manager calls me later that day saying that i have to pay an extra £50 as the sofa shouldn't have been sold at such a low price - nonsense and ingredients.

This topic is a joke, and i notice its all these men that are saying he messed up. Excuse me all you men rating her 2 or 3 please lets see pics of ur own wives - abi they are all 10/10.

Most of these footballers wives are not even that fine - but do you notice that the footballers that seem to have common sense and privacy are the ones who have picked proper wives and not papparazzi trophy wife.

You should even be happy she is black - what is it with footballers being allergic to black women.

This topic has just annoyed me - why anyone is rating another human being is beyond me. To Drogba she is 11/10 self - make all of u go and sit down and use ur time to be useful.

Health / Re: Doctor: Any Help For Ovarian Cyst & Hormonal Imbalace? by redsky1: 9:34pm On Aug 12, 2009
It sounds like she has PCOS

I found this online - hope it helps

Treatment of infertility

Not all women with PCOS have difficulty becoming pregnant. For those who do, anovulation is a common cause. Ovulation may be predicted by the use of urine tests that detect the preovulatory LH surge, called ovulation predictor kits (OPKs). Charting of cervical mucus may also be used to predict ovulation, or certain fertility monitors (those that track urinary hormones or changes in saliva) may be used. Methods that predict ovulation may be used to time intercourse or insemination appropriately.

While not useful for predicting ovulation,[20] basal body temperatures may be used to confirm ovulation. Ovulation may also be confirmed by testing for serum progesterone in mid-luteal phase, approximately seven days after ovulation (if ovulation occurred on the average cycle day of fourteen, seven days later would be cycle day 21). A mid-luteal phase progesterone test may also be used to diagnose luteal phase defect. Methods that confirm ovulation may be used to evaluate the effectiveness of treatments to stimulate ovulation.

For overweight women with PCOS, who are anovulatory, diet adjustments and weight loss are associated with resumption of spontaneous ovulation. For those who after weightloss still are anovulatory or for anovulatory lean women, clomiphene citrate and FSH are the principal treatments used to help infertility. Previously, even metformin was recommended treatment for anovulation. But in the largest trial to date, comparing clomiphene with metformin, clomiphene alone was the most effective.[21] In this trial, 626 women were randomized to three groups: metformin alone, clomiphene alone, or both. The live-birth rates following 6 months of treatment were 7.2% (metformin), 22.5% (clomiphene), and 26.8% (both). The major complication of clomiphene was multiple pregnancy, affecting 0%, 6% and 3.1% of women respectively. The overall success rates for live birth remained disappointing, even in women receiving combined therapy, but it is important to consider that the women in this trial had already been attempting to conceive for an average of 3.5 years, and over half had received previous treatment for infertility. Thus, these were women with significant fertility problems, and the live-birth rates are probably not representative of the typical PCOS woman. Following this study, the ESHRE/ASRM-sponsored Consensus workshop do not recommend metformin for ovulation stimulation.[22]

The most drastic increase in ovulation rate occurs with a combination of diet modification, weight loss, and treatment with metformin and clomiphene citrate.[23] It is currently unknown if diet change and weight loss alone have an effect on live birth rates comparable to those reported with clomiphene and metformin

For patients who do not respond to clomiphene, diet and lifestyle modification, there are options available including assisted reproductive technology procedures such as controlled ovarian hyperstimulation with FSH injections and in vitro fertilisation (IVF). Ovarian stimulation with FSH has an associated risk in women with PCOS of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome — an uncomfortable and potentially dangerous condition with morbidity and rare mortality. Thus recent developments have allowed the oocytes present in the multiple follicles to be extracted in natural, unstimulated cycles and then matured in vitro, prior to IVF. This technique is known as In vitro maturation (IVM).

Though surgery is not commonly performed, the polycystic ovaries can be treated with a laparoscopic procedure called "ovarian drilling" (puncture of 4-10 small follicles with electrocautery), which often results in either resumption of spontaneous ovulations or ovulations after adjuvant treatment with clomiphene or FSH.
