The Catholic Church has announced its return to the Christian Association of Nigeria after about five years of dissociating itself from the body.

The return process was concluded on Thursday and Friday in Abuja when a delegation of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, led by Rev. Fr. (Prof.) Cornelius Omonokhua, attended the expanded National Executive Committee and quarterly meeting of CAN for the amendment of its constitution.

The CSN delegation participated in the two-day meeting.

The President of CAN, Dr Samson Ayokunle, according to a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Assistant, Media & Communications, Adebayo Oladeji, could not hide his happiness on the new development.

Ayokunle was quoted as saying, “Their return is one of the best things that have happened since I was given the mandate to become the President of CAN. One of my visions for CAN is to bring our Catholic brothers and sisters back to the fold and I must acknowledge the support and understanding of my brother in Christ, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, the president of Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria and his team.

“I give kudos to all the principal officers, the directors and some Christian leaders in the country for their support and understanding while the dialogue lasted. My joy knows no bound with the presence of the CSN at the constitutional amendment meeting of CAN held on Thursday and at the NEC meeting on Friday. It is our prayers that the body of Christ in the country will remain one forever in Jesus’ name.

“At a time like this when Christians are almost becoming endangered species in Nigeria, when churches are being denied Certificates of Occupancy, especially in the core North, when Christians are being denied key public offices and when the Church is expected to speak for the voiceless, especially over the economic and social hardship in our country, we cannot afford to be at war with ourselves.”

CAN’s Director of Legal Issues, Kwankur Samuel, said the organisation was working on the new constitution to ensure that “CAN has an effective internal mechanism to address any misunderstanding among its members. We are all happy with the return of the CSN. Our strength lies in our unity.”

The CAN Chairman (North Central Zone), Rev Dr Israel Akanji, said the return of the Catholics was a sign of good omen to the body of Christ in Nigeria.

“We are all happy with this new development, now the Body of Christ in Nigeria is one, virile and strong. We can now speak with one voice. With their return, CAN is even now stronger and greater. We have learnt one lesson or two from the challenges that led to their withdrawal. Never again will any of the blocs withdraw its membership,” he stated.

The CBCN had in a letter to CAN, dated September 24, 2012, announced its withdrawal from the organisation.

CAN was formed in 1976 by the five Christian blocs in the country. They are the Christian Council of Nigeria; Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria; Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria/Christian Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria; Organisation of African Instituted Churches, Tarayar Ekklesiyoyin Kristi a Nigeria and The Fellowship of the Churches of Christ in Nigeria/Evangelical Church of Winning All.

Kagama had last year led the leadership of CBNC to the national secretariat of CAN where, in a meeting with Ayokunle’s team, he identified the controversial areas and hinted of their readiness to work with CAN.

When contacted, the Director of Caritas Nigeria and Executive Secretary, Justice Development and Peace Commission, two agencies of the Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Evaristus Bassey, confirmed to The PUNCH the return of CSN to CAN.

He said, “Yes, I can confirm that Fr. Cornelius (Omonokhua) led the CSN team to the CAN NEC meeting. The Catholic bishops had demanded that CAN should make some adjustments to its constitution. And they have satisfied those things that the bishops wanted.

“It is not that the Catholic Church totally left CAN; the bishops just said they were suspending their activities; that was just what happened. Satisfying those conditions would mean that the (Catholic) church is fully back to CAN. Fr. Cornelius just went to the CAN NEC meeting preparatory to a full lifting of the suspension.”

It was a Sunday of Gratefulness as Pastors, Members and Followers of Omega Fire Ministry worldwide (OFM) celebrated the 14th Anniversary of the proof producing commission.

The Man of God popularly referred to as The Restoration Apostle couldn’t have ended the service without stretching his Hands of Love to people. This time, he had to pay Tuition fees for some members of the church who are in his scholarship scheme. The annual activity sees the Man of God spending millions of Naira to keeping less privilege students in school by paying their fees, buying materials and settling their accommodation throughout their period of study.

A Scandal is currently rocking the home of a clergyman and his family because of the alleged misdoings of his son .

According to a Facebook post by Chijioke Paul Okeifufe, the pastor whose son deflowered and impregnated a member of his church rejected the girl and sent her to the village till she gives birth.

To worsen the whole issue, he suggested that the guardian of the girl should look for any woman that will be using her fingers to widen the private part of the pregnant girl to enable her undergo easy delivery, or, the girl will be using her own fingers on her body frequently. In another words, he is systematically leading the young girl into lesbianism and masturbation.

I will post the phone number of the pastor, his surname, the branch of the Church he pastors in Lagos, the name of his son, the name of his wife and the name of his village, if after the meeting he will have with the family of the girl on Saturday yields no fruit

Meanwhile, the pastor only announced last Sunday that his son will start occupying back seat in the Church for committing fornication, without giving full details of what his son did.

NOTE: I am not judging or blaming him for getting the girl pregnant. What I am against is the way and manner he, his father who happens to be a pastor and his mother who is know as “mummy church” are treating the poor girl.

If they are not ready to marry the girl, then, let them create a conducive environment for the girl to give birth. Also, they need to give the girl the best medical attention to a certain if there is any damage caused by the several failed abortion attempts the boy secretly carried out on the girl.

Meanwhile, I just learnt that the girl just gained admission into the university before the randy boy deflowered and impregnated her. No one is forcing the boy to marry the girl, but he need to do the right thing, especially to enable the girl continue with her education, undaunted by the pregnancy.

FINALLY, I have the phone number of the boy and that of his father with me. I will make them public in my next post if they fail to comply. I will also go as far as getting that of his mother, so that you can ask her how she will feel as a woman, if her her sister or grand daughter is treated the way they are treating the poor girl. She has only male children.

One good turn deserves another. They say. But this seems not to be the case of man who donated his kidney to his girlfriend, but she refused his marriage proposal when he proposed.

49-year-old Simon Louis never expected the response he got when popped the question to Mary Emmanuelle after nursing her back to health. But Mary gently rejected his proposal, though she loved him back, because her health made the future seem uncertain.

However the pair vowed to remain friends and Simon, 49, said:

“I offered her my heart but I had to settle for giving her my kidney. Whatever happens, I’ll never regret giving her the gift of life.”

Mary in her statement said

“He is my very best friend and always will be. The love between us is real. He could have died doing what he did for me.” The pair first met in a London club in the mid-1990s with Mary, then 20, thinking Simon, 28, was “a good-looking bad boy”.

They shared an odd smooch and flirted but things between them never progressed further. Simon, who had other relationships but never lost his feelings for Mary, would think of her on Valentine’s Day and buy her a rose or some chocolates.



It happened in September 2014 when Mary suddenly collapsed at home after her skin went yellow. The lady was in a coma for a fortnight after a brain haemorrhage, spent two months in intensive care and was eventually diagnosed with end-stage kidney disease.

Th only hope she had then was a transplant, but the chances of a donor being found were drastically reduced because she had very rare B negative blood. Simon visited her every day, sometimes staying the night, so he could help her get to and from the hospital.

A few weeks later Simon suggested getting tested to see if he was a match as a donor – and it turned out he was. Then both underwent surgery before helping each other back to health

Simon then decided to pop the question to Mary and asked her to marry him, but he felt disappointed as he never expected to get the response he got on that night.

Mary gave her reason for rejecting Simon’s proposal and this what she said:

“I let him down gently by saying I’d have to think about it. I think I’d worry if we got married it would in some way damage our special friendship and also I don’t want to get wed until I’m fully better health-wise.”

University of Ibadan confirmed its leadership position by ranking as the topmost university in the country in the January edition of the 2018 Webometrics.

It, however, ranks 1099 in the world (still the only Nigerian university in the top 1000 bracket in the world).

The University of Ibadan is trailed in the second position by the Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State (the only private university in the top 46 bracket) and the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, in the third position.

Despite being held down by protracted and debilitating industrial crisis last year, the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, still got rated as the best state university in the current Webometric ranking, 14th in the country and 3680th in the world.

Bayero University, Kano (15th, 3760th); Lagos State University (16th, 3807th); University of Uyo (17th, 3823rd ); University of Calabar (18th,4153rd); Nnamdi Azikiwe University (19th, 4277th) and the University of Jos (20th, 4323rd) complete the top 20 on the list).

The next best performing private university after Covenant (which is ranked second best university in Nigeria) is the Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, on the 21st position and 4329th in the world.

Maureen Zubie-Okolo, a monitoring and evaluation specialist​ with United Nation Children’s Fund (UNICEF), has stated that Imo state tops the chart ​in use of condoms in South​-w​astern states.

Zubie Okolo stated this ​at a briefing ​in Enugu ​yesterday.

She spoke ​when she unveiled the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey to newsmen​.

​According to the report, among the South East states​,​ Imo has the highest figure which is 75.9%.

Imo is closely followed by Anambra who has 66.0% and 57.6% for Enugu while Abia and Ebonyi states are the states with the least amount of condom usage, with Abia having 53.5% and Ebonyi having 27.5%.

​The official explained that ​Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey was carried out in 2016/2017 by the National Bureau of Statistics ​(NBS) ​in collaboration with UNICEF and it is used to assist the government in policy formulation.

There are indications that the number of prison inmates awaiting execution across the country has hit 2,277.



According to a special report by New Telegraph, It was also gathered that the number of awaiting trial inmates now stood at 48,702, with the total population of inmates rising to 71,443. It will be recalled that as at December 2016, the condemned inmates’ population stood at 1,440.



The implication is that, between December 2016 and now, an additional 837 suspected criminals had been sentenced to death. According to a senior security source, the rise in the number of inmates on death row was a potential threat to prisons security in particular and national security in general.



He explained that considering their fate, the condemned inmates have the potential of instigating security breaches of whatever form, knowing that no punishment could be worse than what stares them in the face. “After enquiry, I can tell you that the current population of inmates on death row is 2,277. “There is an increase of over 800 between December 2016 and now, and this calls for worry. “I say this because intelligence had revealed in the past, that they (condemned inmates) may have masterminded some past jailbreaks and other breaches,” the source said. Asked to disclose the total inmate population, he said: “The total population of inmates in prisons across the country is 71, 443, out of which 48,702 are awaiting trial.”



In Ogun State, no fewer than 254 inmates are on death row. As at last year, 90 inmates in Kaduna Prisons had been condemned to death for offences ranging from murder, armed robbery to rape. In Lagos, 202 inmates are on death row while there are 179 condemned inmates in Enugu Prison. On the way out, the source maintained that: “First, let governors be courageous enough to endorse death warrants for eventual execution of those whose appeals have ran out. “In the alternative, the National Assembly could initiate amendment to the constitution, to possibly remove capital punishment therefrom.”



The Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Prisons Service, Mr. Francis Enobore, a Deputy Comptroller of Prisons, confirmed the report in a text message. Meanwhile, the Federal Government has raised the alarm over the sorry state of Port Harcourt Prison, lamenting that the facility turns inmates into animals.



To buttress its point, it said the formation, which was conceived to hold 800 inmates, now accommodates 5,000. Minister of Interior, Lt.- Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), who made the startling revelations yesterday in Abuja, further lamented that the state of Port Harcourt Prison, is a microcosm of the general neglect of the sector. Dambazau represented Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at a public presentation of three volumes of Prison Survey Report (PSR) compiled by the Nigeria Prison Service (NPS), as well as the Prisoners Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA).



The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, mandated the committees to report back in six weeks. This was sequel to a unanimous adoption of a motion by Rep. Olufemi Fakeye (Osun -PDP) at plenary on Wednesday. In the motion, Fakeye said that the level of congestion in prisons across the country had become so alarming that they no longer served as correctional facilities or reformation centre for inmates. He said that information from the Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA), as well as the Nigerian Prison Service (NPS) showed that only 21,354 inmates, comprising 21,009 males and 345 females, were convicts.



The lawmaker said that the remaining 46,756 inmates, comprising 45,765 males and 991 females, were still awaiting trial. He said that due to high congestion in virtually all the prisons, the inmates were exposed to risks of epidemics, jail breaks, lack of reform, transmission of bad habits and crime techniques by hardened criminals. He said that anti-social behaviours and moral decadence, ranging from homosexuality to other forms of human abuses had also become common features of the prisons. According to the lawmaker, congestion in the prisons has become so acute that many cells meant to accommodate about 50 inmates now accommodate up to 150 inmates. “For example, the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison in Lagos, built to accommodate 956 inmates, is now occupied by over 2,600 inmates,” the lawmaker said.

The Super Eagles will take on Sudan in the Semi-final of the ongoing African Nations Championship
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will on Wednesday, January 31 take on Sudan in the semifinal of the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco.

The Eagles booked their passage to the semifinal stage with a hard fought victory over Angola in the quarterfinal stage, where they had to come from behind to progress.



The victory earned Nigeria a showdown against Sudan who defeated Zambia 1 – 0 in their quarterfinal fixture.

Nigeria and Sudan are bronze medallists at the CHAN, the Sudanese with a third place finish in 2011, while Stephen Keshi led the Super Eagles to a third place finish at the 2014 edition of the tournament.

Both semifinals will take place on Wednesday, January 31

The club via their Twitter account have announced that no life was lost in the crash.
MFM FC’s team bus was involved in an auto crash on their way from their away 1-0 loss to champions Plateau United n the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday, January 28.

“We had a minor road accident on way from Jos along Akungba road in Ondo State this evening. No life was lost, the players and officials of the team are in good condition. The head coach Ilechukwu Fidelis is also in good condition as well,” the Lagos-based club announced.
Brake failure

According to reports, it was a brake failure which led to the accident which occurred at about 4.40pm along Akungba, Owo Road in Ondo State.

There were initial reports that manager of the team Ilechukwu had been in critical condition but the club denied the reports with their announcement.

The Sunday loss at Plateau United is MFM FC’s third in five games this season. They lost at El-Kanemi Warriors and Abia Warriors.

This is the second time an NPFL club has been in a road crash this season.

Some Kwara United players were hospitalised after their team bus was involved in a crash while on their way to their base Ilorin just before the first game of the season.

The newly promoted NPFL side were on their way to Ilorin after their Bet9ja NNL Super Four tourney in Lagos.

Hon. Maria Ude Nwachi, a member representing Afikpo North -East constituency has been given a 2 week suspension from being a member in Ebonyi state house of Assembly for abusing and disgracing the honourable house by turning herself to ordinary photographer.

This came after series of warning and possible corrections from the honourable house. The leader of the house, Hon. Joseph Nwobashi moved the motion which was seconded by Hon Mrs Okpo Franca. Hon. Mrs Okpo advised her to leave the system and possibly go and work on her disgusting attitude that is bringing down the respect and honor given to the house.

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested 19 suspected kidnappers in various locations in the state. Three suspects were arrested after a well coordinated operation in Yuga forest, a notorious hideout for kidnappers in Toro LGA. One suspect in Jimi village of Darazo LGA, 1 suspect in Tama District of Toro LGA, 2 suspects in Ningi LGA, 3 suspects in Kundum of Bauchi LGA, 3 in Giwa hamlet of Toro, 3 suspects in Ganjuwa LGA, 1 suspect in Tashan Durumi in Toro LGA and 2 suspects from Alkaleri LGA of Bauchi State respectively.

The command further arrested a suspected informer and negotiator of the kidnappers in Gilliri Village of Bauchi LGA. Meanwhile, Forty Eight hostages were rescued in good condition of health. And efforts are being intensified to apprehend fleeing suspects.

A woman in Cross River State, Mrs Edet has given birth to quintuplets in Calabar, the first in the history of the state, REPORTNAIJA gathered exclusively.

Mrs Edet who’s husband is a medical doctor delivered the 5 kids safely on the 9th of January, 2017 at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.

REPORTNAIJA gathered that the birth of the quintuplets got the rapid attention of the state government which made the wife of the governor rush straight to the hospital to congratulate the historic parents and also support them with cash gifts.

Dr. Linda Ayade, the Wife of the Governor, shelved a scheduled journey to rush down and join the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Inyang Asibong and the DG of the Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Betta Edu, who had earlier arrived the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH to witness what the hospital management says is the first of it’s kind in the facility.

The visibly stunned first lady, who is also a medical doctor, revealed that she has only heard and read about how quintuplets have been delivered but has never witnessed it before. She extended the sincere congratulations of the first family to the parents of the babies and assured them that they will not abandon the babies.

Dr. Linda in her remarks, characteristically waxed religious saying “five is a divine number for Jesus, Grace, Mercy. 9th January is the number of completion on the first month of the year. This event is a sign from God that this is our year of abundance. On the first day of the year, it was twins, today it’s quintuplets, am over joyed.” she exclaimed.

She donated One million naira to the family of the quintuplets with an incubator for the management of the new babies. She also donated additional five hundred thousand naira to the medical team that delivered the babies as well as an undisclosed amount to a set of twins in the ward who were delivered on January 1.
