Ogugua makes some good points.

I think this issue is trivial though and he only used what he's got to fight his cause. Its novel to some of us because we are used to being treated badly and retreating to sulk in one corner.

Could he have conducted himself better? Of course he could. His arrogance and poor choice of words leave much to be desired but again, big nigerian companies are used to riding roughshod on the poor Nigerian customer so I can't hate on this. Kudos to him for getting his iPad back.

Is he responsible for the hacking? I'm afraid I can't comment on speculation. grin

Gbawe:

I told you I will turn you into a nervous wreck. Look at how you make a fool of yourself desperately trying to deceitful utilise my criticism of GEJ here. Show , like the foul-mouthed fish wife you are, where I have ever called Jonathan "Jonasatan" as you do everyday. Show where I have even called him "retardeen" or "drunken fisherman" as many of you do. Show I have ever done it even once.

I will simply expose your deceit and show you as a highly dishonest person who will tell any lie to support your aberrant character and conduct. When have you ever written as if you believe Jonathan is "doing his best"? The same Jonathan you ridicule here daily? You are a disgrace. We can now add deceit and shameless hypocrisy to your uncouthness. Sadly you are dealing with someone far brighter than you and totally able, at a canter, to expose a deceitful Cow like you who goes around provoking and attacking everyone as if you suffer from 24/7 PMT.

Your cynical attempt to play on my criticism of GEJ is laughable considering you not only criticise Jonathan but actually demean him here. You are not intelligent. Quit while you are ahead. You are too much of a hate-filled and malevolent shrew to now be pretending you believe "Jonathan is doing his best".

Sadly for you, many of your ugly and bigoted rants are saved in NL's archive as proof of what you are. So stop this embarrassing and desperate pretense and nauseating attempt at deceit. I could produce 30 of your post similar to that below so desist from making a fool of yourself. Silly olodo shrew. You need to just get lost because I will continue to prove you are a disgrace to Yoruba womanhood. Your foul mouth is deployed against GEJ daily here and you now want to pretend you ever believed "he is doing his best" merely to sway an argument. Pathetic shrew. You must think others are as 'thick' as you are.

What's the EFCC trying to achieve here? That section 38(1) of the Efcc establishment act surely doesn't give any basis to gain information from the accused's counsel! That evidence is surely not admissible as long as there are correspondences between the accused and his counsel there.

Godman_n: I was born and named a catholic. I was made to believe the bible and that God loved the Jews.

But from what I see and know of world history and politics, I have less reason to believe either the Jew or that the Bible is an ultimate truth.

I strongly suspect the scheming lying Jews cooked up all the stories.

Moses lived and grow up a magician in the house of Pharaoh, but when he fought with same magic to take his people away, the called his own magic God's work. Yet this Moses never condemned all the days he spent in Egypt and what he was taught.

Abraham came from Ur somewhere in Iraq to poses the land of Canaan; the lied he the land was given to him by God. If it was God's will that Abraham posses the land, why did God not kill off all the Canaanite? Why did God leave the Jews in a perpetual war? I suspect God did not give them any land. I suspect it was all lies.

Esau lived and died a wealthy man than Jacob, yet they lied Isaac blessed Jacob more. They lied the inheritance of Isaac was given to Jacob.

If God gave them the promised land, why did same all-knowing God allow feminine to drive them out of the same land by the time of Joseph?

Coming to the present day Politics, Why did the Western powers take what belonged to the Palestine and give to an emigrating Jews?

To those that foolishly take side, are we not aware than the lands of Uganda came into calculation when they were plotting to settle these ever migrating Jews.

From my small informed and objective mind, the Jews are the aggressors.

From what I know and see in our present world, I suspect I will soon make a public burning of the Bible because I strongly suspect it is all lies.

I must confess I don't have a final answer to God. It is too confusing, but I know the major religions are all built on Lies.

Christians as well as Muslims are living in houses built on lies. I choose rationality over both.

You seem well-informed but a bit extreme in your future plans to burn the bible publicly lol. If you don't believe, just ignore.

Jews are masters of propaganda but at the same time some facts are out there in the open but lots of brainwashed people (especially Nigerian christians) do not care to learn and reason objectively. Its tragic that in a topic of world politics such as this, the only reference some posters have is the Bible. I am a christian myself but I believe common sense should prevail. The way christians believe the Bible to be the ultimate source of truth is the way Muslims see the Koran too.

A part of Uganda was indeed considered as a place of settlement for the Jews following the hard times they had faced in Europe. Argentina was also considered but alas, they chose Palestine which was under British control. Britain gave Palestinian land to Israel and were the architects of the conflict. Its another thing entirely how the USA became its chief ally and protector.
Most of these Jews look more European than middle-eastern and the reason is simple. Many of them are actually descendants of fanatic Europeans who became followers of Judaism. Most prominent Jews lie about their origins. Nothing new.

If Iran gets attacked by Israel, it will only delay the nuclear weapons it is suspected of building by a few years and by that time Iran would have the perfect excuse to dis-engage form the nuclear non-proliferation body basically having the freedom to build their nuclear weapons without any interference.

Its straightforward really, under international law you can only attack another country under the pretext of reprisal or with the Security Council's authorisation. What is being contested now is if a country (Israel) can attack another (Iran) under the pretext of forestalling a future harm by the country that is to be attacked (Iran). However, if and when that happens, Iran would have the perfect excuse to go haywire with their nuclear aspirations. An attack will also unite Iranians politically especially if there are civilian casualties. Again, the main site of their nuclear experiments cannot be attacked because of radiation fears.

For the US, its always better to have UN backing before going into war-mode. The benefits of the first Gulf War which was UN backed cannot be compared to the disaster in the second invasion. Even though there is confidence that the oil artery, strait of horutz, can be reopened if Iran blocks it as a strategic move, it will involve a naval war between the USA and Iran.

Israel are stronger militarily than Iran on the whole. Iran can hurt them no doubt but not as much as Israel can. The danger of course is that Iran has allies like the Hezbolla and Hamas near the state of Israel and will most likely fight a proxy war. This will blow up the whole region.

For me, Mr Netanyahu needs to calm down. Diplomacy should be exhausted. Iranians are disillusioned with their government as the wounds of that crackdown on dissent in 2009 are still fresh. The only thing there is a consensus about is their right to nuclear energy. A military attack removes the possibility of a calmer government taking over and increases the possibility of a dangerous war.

I hate to be the party pooper but most of these meals are packed with calories, except the beans and plaintain and a few of the soups there is not much I will have here, plenty oil, too much meat, especially beef, we think we are enjoying but the fat and calories park up every where, we finish munching 10 meat, plus ponmo and then start strolling and tell ourselves we are "working out", then guzzle it down with juice and beer. We need to start eating healthy and delicious meals, especially women, that stomach, those tighs, na this one dey cause am, if you cant burn it then dont eat it as my friend will say. We make a cup of tea, fill it with sugar, plenty milk and milo then we feel we are enjoying.
As soon as we hit 30, fat becomes harder to burn, so we have to watch what we put into our mouths, reduce the oil, use healthier alternatives, it is easier to watch what we eat than burn the fat.

Right on bro. That we Yorubas saw MKO as. a messiah is one of the political tragedies of our time. I never trusted the man. He was part of the problem and never changed

I guess selective amnesia played a part in elevating MKO to the hero status

Speak for yourself bro. The idea then was for the military to go back to the barracks and the man had just won a free and fair election in all parts of the country: north, south, east, west. Thats the summary of the clamour. The man was a symbol for a just cause. Asides all of that, Yoruba people knew Abiola's antecedents and its a gross exaggeration that he was seen as a messiah. After all, he was very comfy with the military elite to the extent there were insinuations he was sponsoring coups. Perhaps you're also too young to know that he was an NPN financier and NPN was an unpopular party in the old West.

ndu_chucks: May I also inform some of the people who are opposed to grazing reserves, that the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, Nigeria has already officially demarcated 4125 grazing reserves or routes. Out of this number, only one third is put in use, whereas 270 grazing reserves have been put into cultivation.

In order to curb farmers-pastoralists’ clashes, the federal government in September 2009 carried out demarcation of a grazing route running through the central states of Nasarawa, Benue and Plateau. Other grazing routes also marked out and demarcated were started across Katsina and Bauchi States, spanning across Abuja.

Further grazing routes were also demarcated from Sokoto in the Northwest to Oyo State in the Southwest as well as another 2,000km grazing route from Adamawa State in the Northeast to Calabar in the Niger Delta (UN-IRIN,2009).

It is not enough to demarcatethese reserves on paper, these officials need to spend a chunk of theor N78billion budget to put them in use.

Co-incidence that this happened under Yar'Adua (a fulani man)? Or am I missing something?

Politics / Re: Fulani Herdsmen Demand Land Rights In 36 States by revomind(m): 4:59pm On Sep 09, 2012
AjanleKoko:

Starting Paragraph of the Land Use Act 1990:

An Act to Vest all Land compromised in the territory of each State (except land vested in the Federal government or its agencies) solely in the Governor of the State , who would hold such Land in trust for the people and would henceforth be responsible for allocation of land in all urban areas to individuals resident in the State and to organisations for residential, agriculture, commercial and other purposes while similar powers will with respect to non urban areas are conferred on Local Governments.(27th March 1978) Commencement.

All land in Nigeria belongs to the Government.

Good. The question is which arm of government? Clearly, its the State Govts. The fulani herdsmen have directed their demand to the Federal Govt because in this situation, you can only deal with one state at a time.

Again, I don't imagine that the herdsmen will need urban areas for grazing. Ordinarily, they should prefer non-urban lands which are in the hands of local governments. Also do not forget that there are still large swathes of land in Southern Nigeria that are governed by native/communal law.

As far as the land use act is concerned, this demand is unrealistic. If you as a herdsman need land in Oyo and you do not want to pay for it like others do for their businesses, then you will have to press for this at the state level. Lobby for legislation perhaps... The only scenario I can imagine apart from this is that the federal govt creates a new law that will no doubt be at odds with the land use act. We are no longer in the military era and honestly, I doubt if the herdsmen will get any success from this approach.

For me, I'd say the fulani groups should get to the state level. They should seek to partner with any interested state on this matter and work out some mechanism for large-scale husbandry. This could help the IGR of that state and in the end everyone wins. Maybe, they will become hot cake from there on with states falling over themselves just to bring them in. If no state govt is interested, then too bad, they have to follow the normal procedures of doing business . Simple. Their current approach is one of the many things that put me off in national issues. This is a federal state for God's sake. My hope is the government pays them no mind as this is the kind of stuff that creates problems.

Its not being tribalistic, its being realistic and most importantly being fair and objective in reasoning. The fulani herdsmen must adapt or we help them to. Only that we find a system agreeable for everyone.

Politics / Re: Fani-Kayode: Yorubas Won The Civil War For Nigeria by revomind(m): 1:55am On Aug 15, 2012
Katsumoto: The problem with some Igbo sons is that they believe they are smarter than others. Zik reneged on several agreements with Awo pre-independence, Zik was part of the government that jailed Awo, yet Awo should have supported Biafra.

It is important to contextualize Awo’s actions before and during the Civil war. To do so accurately, one must scrutinize the actions of all parties pre-Independence, post-Independence, and pre-Civil war.

In 1957, the Governor-General, Sir James Robertson, gave the three regions the choice of self-autonomy and independence but it had to be a majority decision. Awo voted for independence for the Western Region, Ahmadu Bello said the North wasn't ready for self-governance and would prefer to remain under British rule. Zik voted to put off Independence for the Eastern region, preferring to wait for the North to be ready. Zik had the choice of a country for the Eastern region but he wanted Nigeria at all cost. Similarly, at the same constitutional conference in London, Awo wanted a secession clause inserted into the constitution but Zik and Bello refused. Guess who would later want secession.

Now fast forward to the general election in 1959. The North won the most seats in the house. Awo offered to join a coalition with Zik, with Zik as Prime Minister (the PM had the real power) but Zik preferred to form a coalition with the North and accepted a redundant position as Governor-General with no real powers.
When Zik aligned with the North in 1959, guess who got most of the ministerial and administrative positions allocated to the South? Yes, you guessed it, the Igbos. The Yorubas and other Groups were left on the sidelines until Akintola broke away from the AG with the help of who? Zik and Okpara who thought that Akintola would defect to their party but played a fast one by preferring to form his own party and aligning with the North. Now when the situation of the Igbo changed with Akintola joining Balewa's government with positions held by Igbo now going to Akintola's supporters, what do you think happened next? Coup by Igbo officers.

In 1962, there were problems in the Western Region between Awo and Akintola who both belonged to the Action Group. Akintola was sacked but due to actions of NCNC (Zik's Party) members, the removal of Akintola wasn't effected. Balewa and Zik imposed a state of emergency on the West because of chair throwing in the Western House yet there were no states of emergency in the North and East for far more violent actions on the streets there (the TIV crisis and the Okrika riots). Awo was subsequently jailed on trumped up charges.

Now after the imprisonment of Awo, Zik thought that his party NCNC would take control of the Western region but Akintola decided to form his own party (NNDP) rather than join the NCNC. In the elections of December 1964, NNDP took control of the Western region. The NCNC cried that elections were rigged. According to Fazil Ope-Agbe (Akintola's right hand man), the ensuing mayhem in the West was sponsored by Okpara and Zik. With the AG in retreat, NCNC calculated that if Akintola's party fell apart, the NCNC would be in a position to pick the pieces. This is not far-fetched considering Zik's antecedents in the West.

With Akintola holding firm, NCNC didn't gain the advantage it sought. One year later, a group of officers who were predominantly Igbo, executed a coup that eliminated leading politicians and officers from the North and West. Despite the murder of these Northern and Western leaders, the Northerners, who were senior partners in the coalition with the East, picked another leader, Dipcharima, to replace Balewa. The East, even though it was the junior partner, had selected Madiwe. When the North refused to budge to this proposal, Nwafor Orizu, chose to handover to Aguiyi-Ironsi another Igbo man and in the process, Nigeria’s nascent democracy was truncated.
Awo was imprisoned on trumped up charges by the Balewa/Zik government and thrown in prison. Awo wrote to Ironsi in March 1966 requesting to be released from prison but was obviously ignored. Awo would later be released from prison by Gowon and driven home in Murtala Mohamed’s car. Despite his time in prison and his political difficulties with Zik/okpara, Awo would assume the role of a statesman and try to find a solution to the impasse between the North and the East. That speech by Awo to the Western regional house was a very noble one. Awo would also travel to Enugu to advise Ojukwu against armed conflict.

So putting all these into consideration, would any sane person expect Awo to simply just follow the East in a secession bid? Awo's loyalty was to his people. He did what he felt was best for his people concerning the circumstances. Despite all that, Awo advised Ojukwu not to go to war. When Awo offered to organise a meeting with Northern officers, Ojukwu replied, 'On the specific question of whether there is a possibility of contract with the North, the answer is at the battle field.'

Other than trying to play the role of an elder statesman and finding a solution to the problem, Awo owed no loyalty to the East. To betray the East, he would have had to have come to an agreement with the leaders in the East. Other than this speech which the OP and other Biafrans erroneously rely (due to a bad educational system), what other reasons exist to suggest a betrayal? NADA
