Science/Technology / Re: Scientists Plan On Dimming The Sun To Resolve Global Warming by Rhea(f): 1:32am On Dec 31, 2018 |
MGab25: By Yugo's Hub Blog
Scientists are proposing an inventive, yet so far unproven approach to tackle climate change. 'How?' we hear you ask? Well, by dimming the sun, of course. That's right, and while that may sound like the plot of a low-budget action film, there is some science behind the idea.
Harvard and Yale universities scientists claims that the global warming could be cut in half by spraying sun-dimming chemicals into the Earth’s atmosphere. They believe the technology could help solve the problem of global warming to some great extent. The research was conducted at Harvard and Yale universities, who published a paper in the journal Environmental Research Letters, claim this idea could cut the problem of climate change in half.
The Technique To Be Adopted For Spraying Aerosols Into The Earth’s Atmosphere They are calling the idea 'stratospheric aerosol injection tactics'. According to the paper, this would involve spraying sulphate particles into the Earth's lower stratosphere. For spraying, a special kind of aircraft, or large naval-style guns will be used. Though, the technology is still hypothetical with no existing aircraft suitable for mission.
The scientists made it clear that it's a cost effective project to save humanity, “Developing a new, purpose-built tanker with substantial payload capabilities would neither be technologically difficult nor prohibitively expensive.
And The Estimated Cost? The total cost of launching a hypothetical system in 15 years’ time at around $3.5 billion, with running costs of $2.25 billion a year over a 15-year period.”
Below is a diagram, as illustrated by Nature.com Worryingly, if people who believed in chemtrails were to see this, they'd probably go into overdrive about the implications of 'spraying' into the atmosphere, and we'd risk more inane and absolutely ridiculous conspiracy theories.
There will be also the chances of potential risks including coordination between multiple countries in both hemispheres would be required, and Stratospheric Aerosol Injection techniques could jeopardize crop yields, lead to droughts or cause extreme weather, said David Archer from the department of geophysical science at the University of Chicago.

According to GB Onitilo, the family members were stopped by the police on Otedola highway just before Berger at about 5.35 am on Saturday and they told the officers they were on their way to the village for the New Year.
While talking with the policemen at the checkpoint, a speeding vehicle rammed into their car from behind and wrecked havoc.

Investment / Re: Bitcoin Investment Named Worst Investment In 2018 - FinExpertiza by Rhea(f): 2:19am On Dec 30, 2018 |
ItzChinnex:
According to experts from FinExpertiza consulting, the most profitable investment this year was palladium. Meanwhist, the world most popular cryptocurrency bitcoin was tagged the most disastrous investment of 2018.
FinExpertiza’s research involved 14 investment instruments and 300,000 rubles ($4,330) as the basis sum, according to Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
The study found that bitcoin investors would have lost more than 213,000 rubles ($3,000) or 71.2 percent of the investment this year.
The most profitable investment of the outgoing year, according to FinExpertiza analysis, was palladium. The price of the precious metal has been hitting record highs lately, making it the best performer among major metals. With the 300,000 rubles invested, purchasers would have increased their capital by 30,000 rubles ($433), or 10.2 percent, by the end of the year.
“And if we look in retrospect, for example of two years, we will see that palladium, in general, has become the only metal with a positive return,” Nina Kozlova, general director of FinExpertiza, was cited as saying by the newspaper.
Once hailed as the future of money, bitcoin has lost more than 80 percent of its value since last year’s all-time high of $20,000.
Currently trading below $3,700, the cryptocurrency is likely to extend its losses to below $3,000, experts say.
Worth just a fraction of a penny in 2010, bitcoin has been hitting the headlines and attracting attention from everyone, including Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, and Jamie Dimon.
Bitcoin has divided opinion and has been called everything from a scam to the future of money.
The virtual currency has been declared dead 336 times now by 99bitcoins.com, a website keeping track of the crypto.

Senator Dino Melaye has promised to make himself available to the police next week.
The lawmaker representing Kogi West constituency, Dino Melaye said he is not a criminal and has no reason to run from the police.
He explained that the police invasion of his residence was unnecessary and that he will report himself to the police as soon as he returns to Abuja.
“I was informed that my house has been invaded. Over 40 policemen inside the compound and over 50 outside the gate. My staff were molested, beaten and handcuffed and taken away.
“Presently I’m outside Abuja. I’m a Senator of the Federal Republic of Abuja, I cannot run away. I will make myself available as soon as I’m back to town next week. I am not a criminal, I have not done anything wrong,” he said.
Melaye also accused the police of disobeying court order to release his international passport to him. According to him, a court order has said that his passport should be released by the police.
“The police have arraigned me in seven courts already. There is a judgement that my passport be given to me. For the past five months, the court order on the IG to return my passport they have refused to obey that order.
“Since April, my security details have been withdrawn by the Nigerian police. The resolution of the Senate for them to restore that have been ignored, all these is to expose me to attack and make me vulnerable.
“But God has been protecting me, he has been my shield and buckler, I cannot run away. I’m not a criminal, I will make myself available to the force headquarters as soon as I return on Monday,” he added.
Melaye in a series of tweets on Friday earlier announced that his residence was under siege by the police. He said all entrances to his Abuja residence was secured by the police under claims there is no order to arrest me.
Also, the younger brother of the Senator, Moses Melaye, explained on Friday that the surveillance team of the Nigerian Police Force came to the residence with some of their men in uniform and in mufti.

The truth is that no political party in nigeria has any plans for an igbo president. The igbos are again the favorite bride of all the promiscuous parties out there. Promise them the niger bridge and all votes will be delivered. Any credible plan for an igbo president must be backed by a party formed and fully supported by most igbos. Otherwise, all these promises of 'next 4 years is your turn' will continue forever. APGA is the closest to anything akin to an igbo party. But then trust the igbos to be their worst enemies. They have almost successfully buried APGA alive without any interference from any other ethnic group. 5 Likes |

Jerryembassy91: I have spoken to him severally over this issue. He said is a new development that the gate must be locked on or before 8pm everyday. From work i do get home between 9 and 9.30..Yesterday i stood outside over an hour knocking.
Pls candid advice is needed...thank you
Unfortunately, you broke rule #1 with renting an apartment: 1. Never share the same compound with your landlord. If the landlord lives in the same premises, find another house to rent. The story is always the same. They call the shots on when you come in and leave; when you sneeze and take a sh.it, what your husband/wife wears, how loud you can pray, how many visitors you get and where they get to park their cars; they insist on controlling your life because you are their tenant. If you buy a new car, rent goes up. You dress nicely, rent goes up. You blink an eye, and you are eyeing his daughter or enchanting his son. It is not worth the hassle. When your rent expires, find another apartment and don't make the same mistake. In the meantime, find a military guy and his friends all dressed in camo over for a drink one sunday; landlord will never mess with you again. 6 Likes |
Nairaland / General / Re: My Stammering Issue Is Depressing Me by Rhea(f): 12:19am On Dec 24, 2018 |
Themaths: At this point, I have to comment.
I was going to create a thread like this, but I'm glad someone stepped up. Personally, I don't feel bad about it anymore. I have gotten used to alot of embarrassment especially with impatient people. But because I'm starting to get used to it doesn't mean it's okay. No, it's definitely not!.
I'm in my late 20s, stuttering/stammering is in my family (like, maternal and paternal). But non of my parents stutter, but I and my siblings stutter at varying degrees, mine is worse.
I speak better and more confidently around people I know very well, (I can almost not stutter when with bar), but when I'm red with anger, all bets are off .
When I talk to myself, I don't stutter. When I read aloud to myself, I don't stutter. When I sing to myself, maybe with headphones on, I feel like a rockstar, not even a trace of stuttering.
Back then in school, seminars, IT defence and final year project defence was a disaster back to back. But I got an A in A, I feel like they pitied me, and I still not like the idea. I hate when people complete my sentences for me.
For me, part of my new year resolution is/will be to make plenty offline friends (exp with ladies), the more the better.
To my stammering brethren exp those who stutter from birth, people who don't stutter won't really feel our pain. They will be like "breathe, calm down, don't rush, talk slowly et al", it's not as easy as it sounds o. The thing sometimes is like a chain reaction, one minute you will think you have gotten the hang of it, and the next you are like choking on some consonant sound .
Lastly, live free and talk as much as you can. Cheers!!!
I am glad you seem to be on top of the situation. Your answer to those questions are an indication that stammering is your reaction to the factors outside of you. It has very little to do with you and more to do with your assumed perception of your audience. Steve Harvey has some decent hints on how to tackle the challenge. Search online for a short video he did on one of his shows. Summary of it goes like this: 1. Do not rush into saying anything 2. Say whatever you want to say to yourself at heart 3 times before saying it out loud. 3. So if I ask you how your day has been and your planned answer is "it's been a good day", be sure to recite that to yourself in your mind 3 times before saying it out loud. 4. Practice this all the time for several weeks and it will gradually become part of you. I can only assume it works. Good luck 4. Do not be in a hurry to respond. Let them wait. If your audience is impatient, they can buzz off. 2 Likes |
Politics / Re: How I Will Defeat Buhari — Kingsley Moghalu by Rhea(f): 8:37pm On Dec 22, 2018 |
Adeitanajoke:
I am the only presidential candidate today that has laid out a very clear vision of constitutional restructuring. I will give you my lecture at the Nigerian Political Science Association Annual Conference in the South East zone which I gave sometime in October at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. There I laid out a very clear vision of restructuring, going beyond people just using the term to seek votes. I am not using restructuring as just a phrase to catch votes.
I believe that Nigeria cannot survive if we are not constitutionally restructured. By that I mean Nigeria must be re-federalized. We must be brought back to becoming a proper federation. To be very clear about what I mean, restructuring is not just devolution of powers, state police. That in itself is not restructuring. It is a part of restructuring, but in and on itself, is not restructuring.
So, there is a 419 version of restructuring and there is the real restructuring of Nigeria. Any restructuring that is not accompanied by a fundamentally new constitution, that recreates a proper federation for Nigeria, as was done in 1963 constitution, will not address the problem.
The problem, as we said, is structural. As president, I will lead this process of restructuring Nigeria, working closely with the National Assembly and the state assemblies.
So, my vision of restructuring is one in which Nigeria is returned to being a federation, that’s number 1. Number 2, in which that federation is structured on the basis of the central government and sub-national government that are the geopolitical zones, which will become economic zones, not on the basis of states I want to be very clear. I believe that the federating unit should be zones or regions.
Please, speaking seriously, I believe Nigeria should have a merit-based presidency so that we can actually make progress. We should stop rotating inside poverty. We are rotating inside poverty. Do you like that?
Don’t worry about money. It does not matter. If money were everything, there are some candidates in this race who would have been president some 25 years ago. They have been at it since then. They have not. But, they have always had a lot of money.
Let us be careful about the worship of money. Money is necessary to run an election in terms of logistics and messaging. But, I want you to know that in this country, what we have is a political industrial complex in which politics have become the biggest business in town.
social intervention projects, giving traders money is vote buying. Let me give you a quotation from the Christian Holy book. “Some trust in their chariots, others trust in horses; But, we will call upon the name of our God.”
I want you to understand something that we are in a historical moment in Nigeria. People are tired of the recycled old politicians. Our people want something new. You are under-estimating the strength of that feeling. But because I have gone across the whole country talking to ordinary Nigerians, I know far more accurately how people feel. So, there is nothing impossible about defeating an incumbent. Mr. Buhari defeated an incumbent, right? And that person ceded power.
https://all-gists..com/2018/12/how-i-will-defeat-buhari-kingsley-moghalu.html Only the enlightened ones will cast a vote for him. Unfortunately, decades of misrule in Nigeria has converted most Nigerians into hungry peasants who constantly seek where the next bowl of soup comes from. And for as long as most Nigerians fall under that category, the likes of Moghalu face an uphill task in winning at the national level. I would have expected him to contest for governor and let his impact be felt in a state. Besides the president, the governor is the next most powerful office from whence to impact the lives of Nigerians. 4 Likes |

damiloladuke: Some Visa seekers were reportedly spotted at the 2018 Holy Ghost Congress of the Redeemed Christian Church of God praying at the Flag Ground of foreign countries to hasten their travel out of the country, News Agency of Nigeria reports.
NAN also reports that the RCCG camp ground at Shimawa, Ogun State, has a corner in the church premises where flags of foreign countries were conspicuously displayed.
Reports have it that both male and female worshippers were seen holding assorted flags of foreign countries at prayer sessions.
Some of the worshippers were seen praying kneeling down in-between the flags.
In an interview with some of the worshippers, a 35-year-old man who identified himself as Emmanuel Ukor confirmed that he prayed with the flag of the country he intended to visit.
“I have faith and that’s why I am holding American flag pole for prayer. I have been going to the embassy and had been denied several times.
“There is nothing prayer cannot do, I believe God answers prayers,” he said.
Also, a 22-year-old man, Adebola Martins, said that he wished to leave the country to study for his Master’s degree.
“I want to leave this country for the United Kingdom to further my studies and to also stay there to make ends meet. That’s why I am holding its flag,” he said.
A 60-year-old woman, Mrs. Faith Grace, said she held the flags to pray for her children who are based abroad so they can continue to live well.
“I am using the flags as prayer points of contact for all my children.’’
One of the pastors, who pleaded anonymity, said things work with people’s faith.
“Although the flags displayed represent the countries where the church has it parishes, faith works with mind.
“They are asking God for what they want and so shall it be,” he said.

Akpabio further disclosed that Emmanuel Udom never had a membership card of any political party neither had he contested for any election on his own, before he (Akpabio) picked him up from Lagos and made him Governor.
Daily Post reported that the former Senate Minority Leader who said the All Progressives Congress, APC, would record landslide victory in the general elections in the State, added;
“I was shocked that Emmanuel whom I brought from Lagos and installed as a Governor even though he was not a member of the party on whose platform he stood election and become Governor, could call a world press conference to insult me.
He said, ‘’the electorate in the state would reciprocate the kind gesture of Mr. President Buhari by voting massively for him and all candidates of the APC in the state.’’

“Only God could have made it possible to make someone who was never a party member to become a governor.
“Only God could have made somebody who has never had a party card or know what is called ward to become a governor.
“Only God could have made someone who could not have stood election on his own even as a Councilor and win to be brought from somewhere and made Governor.
”Only God could have made a man who has never helped anyone to become anything to become governor.”

dainformant: The wife of the executive governor of Cross River, Dr Linda Ayade, left her "throne" to personally perform surgeries and administer free medical services to patients at Lawrence Henshaw Hospital in Calabar, the state capital.
This was done through her pet project, the MEDIATRIX DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION, MDF in partnership with FaithCare International Outreach as surgeries, eye care, dental care, laboratory tests, counselling, Free drugs, were given to the patients.
Dr. Ayade had earlier opined that, “No one should die from diseases that are preventable”, as she urged the general public to turnout and take advantage of these services.
This is the third time that this outreach is been held this year, February and August 2018, it was held at Obudu and July 2018, it was held at Ogoja, and the first of it was held at Ikom and Ugep in 2016.
