NOUN Accuses NYSC Of Discrimination

The VC lamented the discrimination of its graduates by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Nigerian Law School.

Authorities at the National Open University (NOUN) has accused the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Nigerian Law School of discrimination against their graduating students, Leadership reports.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Vincent Ado Tenebe at the 5th Annual Convocation ceremony, said that the graduates of the school are not given equal opportunities with fellow graduates from other institutions to participate in the NYSC.

He also added that the law students are barred from attending the Nigerian law school.

Tenebe said an internet search shows that there are 59 open universities in countries throughout the world and there is no evidence that graduates of their open universities are treated differently from the graduates of their traditional regular universities.

The VC therefore called on the appropriate agencies responsible for NYSC and legal education in the country, to reconsider their positions, especially against the background of the “latest results of University Rankings” by Webometrics which placed NOUN as number 23 out of the “100 Best Universities in Nigeria for 2015.”

Hello NOUNites,
Most of us have questions to ask,
Some of us have answers that are not satisfactory?
Some answers are just to allay our fears,
Some SCs will not even answer some question,

Here is a solution,
I will be at NOUN Headquarter on January 22, 2016 at 12noon,
I will be there to ask all the questions you have, on your behalf,
So, post your questions here and wait for your answers by weekend.
Post your questions and thank me later.

Please Confirm Your RRR Pin Before You Pay. READ THIS

ATTENTION PLEASE!!!

I discover an abnormality in the newly introduce REMITA RETRIEVAL REFERENCE PIN. I nearly fall victim at zenith Bank osogbo Branch. the pin issue to me was for another person portal. the cashier was about entering the cash into the RRR pin on my deposit slip and call out the name on the portal belonging to the RRR pin given to me. Adewuyi Samuel! Adewuyi Samuel!! Adewuyi Samuel!!! No reply and was gazing at my eyes. Asking me are you not the one that summit this slip.Yes,I am.I answered.

He returned the slip to me and asked me to refill.I refill another slip with the same information.when I summit back to him.he gazed at his system very well and he told me the RRR pin number is for Adewuyi Samuel’s portal.

So I went back to school for another RRR pin number and the real one was given to me.
When I got to back to zenith Bank the cashier says we should come back tomorrow. So I and a guy move to FCMB Bank. Where we met a lady who fall victim.

Surprisedly the RRR pin number given to this lady belong to a guy named Wasiu Ganiyu.she paid just a token of #30,000.I pray her captive of #30,000 shall be restored. Amen..

In other not to fall into this waste.pls make sure you get the correct RRR pin from your portal. And I would advised you not to feel too intimidated at Bank to tell the cashier to confirm the RRR pin with your portal if corresponding. we shall not run into lost. am

7 Things You Should Know About NOUN- National Open University of Nigeria.

You are limited in several ways by the information available to you. The reason for education in the first place is to learn, to acquire information and skills. You may have heard about NOUN but I think it is time to look into the school and see what the school is offering instead of assuming and reading some erroneous information about the school. With 70 centres and over 400000 students, I bet a wrong opinion will not change the trend.

Here are 7 things you should know about NOUN. I have written this to allay your misconception and probably give you a perspective on Open University.

1.Open University is a global concept.
Open University did not start in Nigeria; it is a global educational concept that has been around for about 50 years.
Today, there are more than 60 open universities in the world, in countries like USA, Canada, Australia, India, Thailand, UK, Cyprus, Hong Kong, Israel, Malaysia, Netherland, Japan, Greece and some more.
The concept of Open University was founded on the belief that communications technology could bring high quality degree-level learning to people who had not had the opportunity to attend traditional campus universities.

2.NOUN has increased access to education
NOUN offers amazing flexibility. It increases access to education for those who otherwise have no other opportunities due to work, family, age or physical limitations.
NOUN allows you to change your study centre, thus you are not affected by transfer at work or change of environment.
NOUN has come as a blessing to Police, NSCDC, NURTW, Prisons, Public servants and other students who want to study further while continuing with jobs or who might not be able to attend a full-time.

3.NOUN is a Federal Government School
As a Federal Government University, NOUN is favored. There is no fear of credibility or authenticity of license.
NOUN is NUC approved for graduates, Masters and Ph.D programmes. NUC approval is the ultimate; it is what makes university a university in Nigeria.
I am a pro federal government school anyway.

4.No Union action or strike
It is common in Nigeria to add one or two years to when you are suppose to graduate. ASUU strike and student protest are some of the factors that can elongate your years in the university.
At NOUN, no union action or strike necessitate you to wait few more years before you graduate, you are almost certain of your year of graduation even from the beginning.

5.NYSC Exception Letters
NYSC was not created to confirm university degrees. NYSC certificate is just saying “you have served Nigeria”
NYSC exception letters made available to NOUN graduates is equivalent to NYSC certificate.
NOUN has over 400000 students and still growing, the population of 10-20 Universities. If you incorporate that population to NYSC, NYSC will need almost double of its facility to accommodate the numbers.

6.NOUN has Rep
A former president of this country is an alumnus of NOUN. Royal fathers, celebrities, members of State house rep have considered NOUN as a place to study.
They have a correct knowledge of what NOUN is offering.

7.Admission is easy and open.
NOUN will not let JAMB jam you. You don’t need JAMB or post JAMB to gain admission into NOUN. NOUN admits students every semester and forms are continually on sale.

NOUN Releases 5000 Graduates, Installs First Chancellor

National Open University of Nigeria, Nigeria’s premier Open and Distance Learning (ODL) university, the National Open University of Nigeria(NOUN) is set to confer 5000 of its graduates with certificates, diplomas, Bachelor degrees, postgraduate diplomas, Masters and honorary doctorate degrees as it holds its 5th Convocation Ceremony on January 15 and 16, 2016.

The ceremony, which also features the installation of the institution’s first chancellor, His Royal Majesty Igwe Ambassador Lawrence Okolio Chikezie Agubuzu of Olo Kingdom, Ezeagu Local Government, Enugu State, is scheduled for the university’s permanent site at Jabbi, Abuja, Federal Capital territory of Nigeria.

Prof. Vincent Tenebe, NOUN VC According to a release made available to press by the university authorities, the event will also feature the inauguration of the Senate Building (the official administrative block of the institution) as well as the university’s specialist hospital and the administrative blocks of the School of Health Sciences, which is expected to relocate from Lagos to Abuja immediately after the convocation ceremony.

The tape for the inauguration of the facilities is expected to be cut by the Visitor to the university, the president of Nigeria and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), who will lead a team of other dignitaries to grace the occasion.

Highlights of the events include convocation lecture and performance by NOUN Theatre on Friday, January 15, 2016; investiture of the first chancellor, conferment of certificates and degrees
as well as convocation luncheon on Saturday, January 16, 2016.

It would be recalled that NOUN has instituted a consistent tradition of holding its convocation ceremonies in the second week of January in the past four years. This development is one of the numerous achievements of the institutions dynamic and visionary vice chancellor, Professor Vincent Ado Tenebe, an erudite Agronomist, who within the first year of his tenure got all academic programmes of the university accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC), and has virtually transformed an institution, initially observed with skepticism by the public, into a global brand with world-wide connections

SmartMugu:

Not sure if it's the same in Nigeria or other countries.

The labour law in Nigeria states that if you earn monthly, you are entitled to a month notice or payment for one month in lieu of notice.

As an employee too, you have to give ur employer one month notice or pay your employer one month in lieu of notice.

Ideally, most employement letters spell this out.
