Cool. thank you

That's what i want to know if its possible. thanks bro

It seems there is a clear misunderstanding here. Either you or myself are not passing the message correctly. Do you intend to submit your application while in the US but just apply as if you are in Nigeria? Just like the way my wife and I applied for her mum from Canada but it seemed she applied from Nigeria? If that, you are good to go. Any other stuff is not applicable to you.

Good luck!

Canada and usa share visa applicant data base information,so you need to tell the truth about your location because the canada vo already know you are in the usa and you can apply in the usa and if ur visa is approved you can fly directly to canada.. i know a man that apply from usa on a b1/b2 visa and his canada application was granted and he came directly to canada fron usa and return to nigeria from canada

Anybody can apply for a visa only from anywhere. Are you saying he can apply as a resident in the US? Did you imply that the person you know that was in the US with b1/b2 visa applied as a resident of the US or the person applied online and the application was treated like every other Nigerian applying from Nigeria?

I dont have to tell the canada VO of my current location. If the student visa is approved that means i'd return to 9ja & leave from here right?

Still from my experience applying for a study permit from the US, you have to show evidence of residence from the country you are applying from. In my case, I showed my I-20. I don't have the knowledge (and also don't believe) that b1/b2 can be used as such too!

Hi Guys,

Just a quick one. If i have a US B2 Visa & given an admission to study in Canada. Will canadian Inmmigration grant me student visa? P.S: I'm currently in US. I would appreciate responses to enable me pay my tuition. thanks

If I understood your question correctly - Do you want to know if you can apply for a Canadian study permit from the US while on B2 or you just want to say that you already have a B2 in your passport but haven't traveled with it? If it is the former, you can't do that as B2 doesn't give you "right of residence" in the US. Whereas if you just have a B2 visa without having traveled to the US, my guess is that it depends on the VO's discretion. While it doesn't prove a travel history (as you haven't gone for the journey and returned), a VO can use that to prove that you (your application) can be "trusted" since the US had given you a visa.

All of the above are just my views!!!

Good morning fam. Can anyone please advise what the timeline for VFS Courier delivery as against picking up the passport in person. Departure date is Jan 24 and got PPR today, exactly 3 weeks from this day. If memory serves me right, timeline for passport submission to collection used to be 2 weeks on average but I learnt people are now experiencing delays with VFS. Any helpful tips would be appreciated. Thank you

Yea, she will get it before two weeks. Despite the holidays, we got it in 16 days (including weekends). The 24 Jan flight you talked about, I guess its either Ethiopian or Egypt Airline. I monitored those tickets before!!

All the best!

My mum in law got her 1st visa valid for one year, but reapplying, she got until passport's validity. lol

Exactly what happened in this case..........Mother inlaw applied with her first passport and we thought she would get till validity. It was very disappointing that it was just for 1 year. I considered many options of which one was travel history! Now, your response confirms it all.

Thanks

I think it is solely at the discretion of the Immigration Officer reviewing your file based on the profile submitted

Thanks for the reply. That is the most probable explanation to the outcome. But I still don't understand why so many of the VO's decisions are left to "discretion". Anyways, what do I know!

Hey guys,

Please does anyone know the rationale behind visitors visa validity? I know it is usually till the duration of passport but I have heard of persons there were issued for just one (1) year despite having longer validity in their passports. Does this have to do with travel history? Has someone with no travel history been issued more than one (1) year? Does it have to do with amount of funding available to the applicant?

Your opinions will be highly appreciated!!!

Yes i can apply from Singapore where i'm currently studying. I have applied for other countries before been given a visa easily but Canada, UK, Australia are quite difficult, once the study permit validity is less than 6 month, i will have to wait the next year to apply for a 1 year renewal. Another issues is that they treat Nigerian applicants differently as high risk country i.e bank statement needs to have more than enough and they don't accept Nigerian bank statement. Same goes to the US embassy in Singapore which i applied and was rejected. That's why i choose to apply from my home country.

Well, that is sad to hear of all the conditions (esp. bank statements). Since you already know the solution, just try and work with it.

All the best!

Hi Nairalanders,
I would like to apply for Australian, Uk or Canadian visit Visa from Nigeria but my country of residence is Singapore. I am on a student visa which needs to be renewed every year. The problem is the requirements for foreigners applying for these countries are difficult for none residence. I was advised to apply from my home country because if my student visa is less than 6 months I am not eligible to apply visas to other countries.

My question is.
Is it possible to fly to Nigeria for a week and apply or stay back in Singapore apply for visa and bio-metrics then when my visa is approved I can fly back to Nigeria to get the visa sticker on my passport?

thanks

I have actually applied for Visa to Canada while studying outside Nigeria. From my experience, a Visa is not a right to stay in a country. As you are a student, your Study Permit which shows the duration of your studies should be the key. I am not particularly sure about the 6 months duration you mentioned (you might have to check that out).

In summary, your study permit should be fine to apply for any of those visas from outside Nigeria.

Goodluck!

Passport dispatched email(spouse) from UKVI: 30th April, 2019

These are the bills on offer today on the GTB Secondary market:

20-Jun-19 (83 days) at 10.20%

26- Sep-19 (181 days) at 12.00%

27-Feb- 20 (335 days) at 12.30%

Nice rates. I just wasted my money fixing my account with Stanbic. I would have stayed with my GTB oo. Lesson: Please compare all your banks rates before trading with one so you don't feel bad afterwards.

@davit, please is there a way other than asking your account officer how someone can see the secondary market rates of different banks?

It depends on what you define as notary. A notarized document is just anything that has your name and home address on it, with an official stamp of a recognized institution. In my own case, I had CIBC (same CIBC that doesn't offer notary to customers according to you lol) print a paper that had my name, address, and account balance. Then the paper was stamped and signed. Shi shi did not go into this. The banks in Nigeria accepted this as a notarized document. Case closed!

Hmmmm! Interesting! I actually asked a lawyer friend in Nigeria who notarized the document for me and I sent it to Stanbic. I actually sent in a secondary market TB instruction alongside the indemnity form. However, the bank did not honor my TB instruction as they said that the form must be notarized where I am located. I paid another $50 yesterday for indemnity form to get my account ready for transactions.

I usually invest for 364 days tenor but after the failed bids by GTB coupled with the drop in stop rates, I just want to monitor what happens in the next few months by investing in short tenors (I just sent instructions for 34 days at 9.25%). Not that great, but I just want to hedge against uncertainty.

Anyways, I opened GTB, Zenith, StanBic, and First from Canada and I didn't spend shi shi wink you can print a picture of your passport and have it notarized at your bank, freee of charge lol . You can even have your document notarized in court, for free, IF YOU ASK THE RIGHT QUESTIONS

Really? In Canada? So I wasted my monies eeh? Abeg which bank did those for you as CIBC and Scotia said they don't offer notary to customers. Which court can do that?

I guess the difficult part will be the KYC requirements. I remember someone actually visited my residence to confirm I live there before the account was fully activated.

On the contrary, I opened and the account became active in 2 days (just because of time zone and logistics). The painful part is just wasting money on notarizing documents. My Nigerian passport and utility bill had to be notarized ($100 just like that). Now, the worst is that I have to notarize my indemnity form!! So just to open account now, person go keep $150 because say em no dey stay for Naija. Well..........

Out of curiosity, do you intend on repatriating your profits from TB to the USA or leaving it in Nigeria?

I also want to start investing in TB (live in london), but I'm scared of the exchange rate going against me and erasing any gains I make in TB when I want to repatriate my profits back to UK.

It's not like people buy currency futures to lock in their exchange rate.

My opinion! Trading in Nigeria is far better than doing so in the US or UK. Although there are risks involved when it comes to the exchange rate, I do not think that the Naira will fall the same way it did 2016 - 2017. Infact, the CBN should have dropped the dollar below 360 as the oil price which was below $30/bbl is in the near $70/bbl. Even though there are lots of other factors that will determine the exchange rate, at the moment, Nigeria is not lacking in foreign investments. Nevertheless, I do not have absolute trust in the Nigerian government as anything can happen. However, the gains for now (in the nearest 1 year) outweighs the loss..............I will advise you zero your mind and invest in Nigeria.

As a diaspora account holder who got tired of waiting for unsuccessful primary auctions, GTBank finally allowed me to bid in the secondary market, thanks to some of you who hinted me on how to go about it. My secondary market transaction is explained below:

Principal = #3.2m, Tenor = 182days. My stated rate based on my findings on this forum yesterday(March20) = 12.2%

Today, I received these 4 alerts for debited amounts:

(1) N3,033,937.44 ... (2) N3,740.55 ... (3) N192.03 ... (4) N100

I understand that alerts 2-4 pertain to the deducted(whatever) fees, but my focus is on alert (1) using calculation below:

I = (3,200,000 - 3,033,937.44) = N166,062.56

166,062.56 = 3,200,000 *R *182/364
R = 10.38%

As a customer/investor, if my stated Tbill rate is 12.2%, is the bank legally obligated to disregard my instruction and apply whatever rate? Here in America, if the similar event takes place, the transaction would not go through, on the basis that my stated rate is>secondary market rate. OR the bank would have the decency of sending me the available secondary rates and options, and allow me to select one.

So, my fellow investors, I come to you with humility for your take on this matter: Since the bank did not explicitly tell me what rate was applied on my investment, is my calculation for the rate correct? Is 10.38% too low for 182 days, compared to the recently published secondary rates by various banks? Do banks in Nigeria always disregard your instructions and apply whatever rate in the secondary auction? OR am I overreacting? I am only putting this out there to help me eliminate all vagueness and help me prepare better for future investments. As always, your input is greatly appreciated!

Your calculation is correct. The rate they gave you was less than the stated rate which is not supposed to be. The only thing I can guess is that since rates (secondary market rates) change on daily basis, the 12.2% might have dropped. However, dropping from 12.2% to 10.38% is too much. I would advise you contact your account officer who treated the TB for you.

So I inquired on the length of time it takes to get passport back from Accra. Thanks to @Luce for the insightful information. My wife's timeline is as this:

19th Nov: Passport submitted via VFS
19th Nov: Passport delivered to Accra Visa Office (according to tracking)
13th Dec: Passport dispatched from Accra VO to VFS
16th Dec: Had a conversation with @Luce who gave details of her passport pickup which made me feel convinced my wife's passport would have arrived VFS Lagos.
17th Dec: Wifey went to VFS about 1pm. Upon arrival, she was asked if she had received the pickup email. Of course she said No. The guy asked her for her tracking no. and confirmed that the passport has arrived but she has to wait till 5pm for the pickup or come back the next day. Well, she did the hard work of waiting but at the end took her passport home.
17th Nov: Tracking updated to passport collected.

Funny enough
18th Nov: Wifey birthday (Excellent one)
18th Nov: My PR card arrived......13 days after my landing! Unbelievable!!!

Christmas has started for us! I wish all landing the best of life endeavors in Canada and beyound!

Last week I asked about how long it has taken people of recent to receive their passport and COPR from Accra. Below is my spouse timeline:

19th Nov: Passport submitted via VFS
19th Nov: Passport delivered to Accra Visa Office (according to tracking)
We already planned getting a flight for Nov 14th hoping it will take 2 weeks according to some persons timeline here. For me, I was to land on the 5th of December. And on the day I landed, I was told that her passport has not been processed since I haven't landed. I was advised to email the office and attach my COPR which I did the same day. I got an automatic reply and that was it. No news, no update whatsoever.
13th Dec: Passport dispatched from Accra VO to VFS
My wife and I were not sure if the passport will be available for pickup as we haven't received a pickup email. When she called on the 14th, she was told that it will take 5 to 7 days after the dispatch update to be ready for pickup. Well, wifey agreed to go to VFS on Monday afternoon (at least to allow them some more time to work).
17th Dec: Arrived VFS about 1pm.

18th Nov: Wifey birthday (Excellent one)
18th Nov: My PR card arrived......13 days after landing! Unbelievable!!!

Writing this, it seems as if my wife and I didn't have terrible moments with IRCC. On the contrary we did. Got married Aug 2017. Wifey was refused OWP twice. I am studying in Canada, hence applied for PR as inland and was hoping for 2 months PR approval. Did it happen, No. It didn't even come in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and even 6th month. Crazy right? Even outland applicants were getting PR in 2 months. I took almost 7 months to get an ADR for proof of relationship. Afterwards, they gave the PR. This is after 17 months I haven't been with my newly wedded wife. But now that PR has been approved, all the pains are gone!
So, at your respective challenges at the moment (IELTS, waiting beyond the processing time, review required, etc), your pains will soon be over........Keep the faith!

I have been following silently from the beginning and finally got here. Congrats to everyone who has gotten their PPR and aced their IELTS your success stories has inspired me to give EE a shot.. I have signed up for Ielts in Jan and I hope that I ll also come here to testify at the and of it all. I have some issues that need clarification on and I humbly ask for the opinion of anyone with answers.
I have a B.Eng in petroleum Engineering and Msc in information Technology Engineering (Both Nigerian Degrees), I have 1 year experience with NYSC--physics teacher, 3 years experience as a Web developer (self taught) , worked with a friend in his IT startup (just 3 of us) for 2 years. we did contracts mostly and pay didn't come in regularly every month ( He is currently in the process of registering the business name with CAC). However I left to pursue my M.Sc in 2017. After my Msc, I got CCNA and I'm currently working as a Network administrator (2 months).
I want to build a career as a network engineer and possibly advance into cybersecurity or analytics.

Q--> Would you advise me to go with noc 2281--Computer network technicians. Despite not having up to one year experience or continue with
Web development noc 2175--Web designers and developers, (which is still a side gig for me). Or use NYSC which can be easily substantiated.

NB..i checked the CRS tool, Maxing out my Ielts will put me on 456 with 1 year experience and 481 with 3 years experience.
I am weary of using web developer noc because there are no legal documents (Payslip, Appointment letter, certification etc) to back it up.

NYSC should be enough!! I will advise you get the process hitting now as their might be a change in the system given the upcoming elections (the conservatives most likely will tighten things)

Tracked mine and saw it had been dispatched on 15/11, went there 21/11 and it was there. Didn’t get the sms either; dunno about 4 days though, but if it’s not too inconvenient, you can just go and check on Monday.

P.S: Generally wouldn’t advise purchase of a non-refundable/changeable ticket till you get the passports back.

Thanks for your reply @Luce..........It is quite resourceful. Just out of curiosity, when you got your Passport back, was there any indication of the time the documents actually arrived VAC. For example, I am assuming it might have been there on Tuesday (or even Monday) before you picked it up on Wednesday.
Nevertheless, she will go on Monday to see whats going on.
