Politics / AYF: Obasanjo Should Dine With Saraki Using Long Spoon by Rizmo(m): 12:01pm On Jun 20, 2015 |
The Arewa Youth Forum ( AYF) has cautioned former President Olusegun Obasanjo to use a long spoon in dinning with the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, so as not to be consumed by his uncommon treachery. Reacting to Senator Saraki’s visit to Chief Obasanjo in his hilltop mansion in Abeokuta on Friday, the President of AYF, Gambo Gujungu said the former president should be beware of the Senate President, adding that Saraki had something up his sleeve. Gujungu noted that “Chief Obasanjo is a respected elder statesman who has always stood for truth and justice and should not allow Senator Saraki to dent his hard-earned reputation. ” The AYF President described Saraki’s election as the President of the Senate as the highest form of treachery and betrayal to the ideals of the All Progressives Congress ( APC) . “Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is a respected elder statesman who has contributed immensely to the development of Nigeria. A good instance of this was when he stood up to former President Goodluck Jonathan when he felt he was pursuing tribal, regional and personal interests to the detriment of our national development and unity. “Chief Obasanjo spoke out when a lot of our so- called leaders would rather remain silent in the face of wanton bad governance and impunity. This is why we are calling on him to be steadfast and courageous, as he has always been, to tell Senator Saraki and his cohorts where they have gone wrong. The election of Senator Saraki as President of the Senate indisputably undermined the supremacy of the APC; and this should not be swept under the carpet or condoned by the party leadership. “The emergence of a Senate President from the North-East would have been a great compensation for a region that gave President Muhammadu Buhari an overwhelming support in spite of the devastation it has suffered as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency, ” Gujungu said. He further called on members of the APC and stakeholders to join the call for a fresh election for the Senate presidency of the 8th National Assembly, even as he said, a comparison of Senators Bukola Saraki and Ahmed Lawan would clearly tell who is a better candidate. President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered that nine of the transport aircrafts in the Presidential fleet to be sold as part of a new cost reduction initiative. The Federal Government is spending roughly N12 billion annually for the maintenance of the Presidential fleet. The details of the sale were publicly disclosed by a source who claims awareness of Buhari's mandates and the aviation affairs of the government. The source told media that the "nine, which still have market value, are to be sold immediately to reduce maintenance costs." Nigeria's Presidential fleet is one of the biggest in Africa and is said to be the 3rd largest in Nigeria after the commercial carriers, Arik Air and Aero Contractors. Inside information from Nigerian Air Force sources revealed that the fleet has two Dassault Falcon 900 jets, a Gulfstream IVSP, a Gulfstream V, a Dornier Do 228, a Beechcraft King Air B200, and three Augusta Westland AW139 helicopters. Information on the exact number of aircrafts in the fleet is classified, but a source has said the their are about 16 aircrafts; the most important and most prominent one is the Eagle One, used by the President for travel. These aircrafts are specifically reserved for the transport of the Vice-President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and can also be used to convey African Heads of States visiting or departing Nigeria. The pics after the cut are extremely graphic. I'd advise that you don't look at them except you have the heart for it. Remember the family who lost three children from same parents in a fire incident at their home in the Egbeda-Akowonjo area of Lagos on Saturday June 13th? Well, horrible photos from the scene have been released. The children are; Ifeoma, 9; Emeka, 7; and Udeoma, 3. The fire was caused by a candle lit in their home. May their souls rest in peace, amen. Sports / U20 World Cup: Mali Knocked Out Favourites Germany by Rizmo(m): 12:37am On Jun 15, 2015 |
Tournament favourites Germany have been eliminated from the Fifa Under-20 World Cup after losing on penalties against quarter-final opponents Mali. "We didn't lose the match because of the opponent, we lost it because of penalties," said Germany coach Frank Wormuth. "It's luck to win." Mali won the shootout 4-3 after a 1-1 draw in Christchurch, New Zealand, and face Serbia in Wednesday's semi-final. Senegal meet Brazil in the other last-four tie, also on Wednesday. Julian Brandt had given Germany a first-half lead before Mali's Souleymane Coulibaly equalised after the break. Hany Muklhtar missed a penalty when Wormuth's side were 1-0 up while Brandt and Niklas Stark failed to score in the shootout. German penalty efficiency Germany's senior men's team have developed a fearsome reputation in penalty shootouts over the years, winning four of their World Cup ties by this method. Only Argentina have won as many World Cup penalty shootouts as Germany. Remember our dream team led by Manu Garba lost to this tactical German team in the second round. Congrats to the Malian team. They have done Africa proud. |
