I have a second 'confirmation' about the missile fast attack crafts, the Navy released on internet the full conference papers on their ops, plans and needs as delivered by an admiral rank officer, he clearly said 4 fast attack crafts and 8 long range helicopters will be purchased as soon as money comes. I posted the pdf file last December/this January but cannot easily find it again in my overloaded folder.

Yes, the standard $25 million JF-17 was not good enough for their standards - they would have had to modify it.

The ~$20 million Kfir would meet their standards and be cheaper

40 year old Kfir > JF-17

Too expensive to modify to their requirements not standards (majority of air forces have aircraft's modified to their requirements). Argentina just couldn't afford to do it and now can't even modify the Kfir because they are broke. So it will be Pucaras for them for now.

Another misconception, Argentina didn't go for the JF-17 because they couldn't afford it and not for any other reason. They have even now put off the Kfir Block 60 purchase because they are broke.

"They had also looked at JF-17’s from China, but the JF-17s proved too expensive to modify."

Hello peeps. Just to clarify a misconception, the Chinese classify a 4th generation aircraft as 3rd generation and goes on like that.

"The Chinese have their own particular order of ranking fighter aircraft. The Chinese call the Russian's 5th generation fighter a 4th generation machine. The Chinese have a pretty clear about understanding of 3rd and 4th generation fighters, but sources are a bit hazy on the distinction between the first and second generations."

There is no proof that the colonel said that - likely it is written by some Nigerian to save face

The facts however are this:

- Nigeria has not directly trained the Sandf
- south Africa has directly trained the Nigerian Military

We literally had to teach you how to fight

You have to live with this fact

You have no idea how we fight, we have a doctrine, Nigeria has no military doctrine

Why don't you check Eeben's twitter account for his conversation with Beegeagle instead of continuously downplaying the truth.

10 MORE TERRORISTS CAMPS FALL AS MANY OF THEM DIE IN SAMBISA FOREST

17May

An unconfirmed number of terrorists died on Saturday as 10 additional camps used by terrorists were overran in the continuing offensive operations against the terrorists in Sambisa forest. The Dure camp which is one of the most prominent camps in the forest witnessed the fiercest battle as the Special Forces descended heavily on it before it finally fell.

Four of the camps were located in a place called Iza within the forest while three others were noted to be recently established by the terrorists before the assault began. One soldier died from one of the land mine encountered in the operation while two others were also wounded.

The terrorists lost a number of vehicles mounted with Anti-Aircraft Guns as well as armoured vehicles. Some of the terrorists who escaped from the camps also died as they ran into troops ambush in some escape routes from the forest.

Meanwhile, some of the fleeing terrorists have also engaged in suicide missions at Bitta where they encountered the Nigerian troops and Kiskeru across the border in Niger Republic.

The Operation to clear the terrorists in Sambisa and other forests is continuing as troops in all fronts have been alerted to be on the look out for fleeing terrorists. The Nigerian Air force is maintaining an active air surveillance to track the movement of terrorists for appropriate action as the operation continues.

Well in that case give it to Boko Haram because you don't need it and don't even dare to recapture it.

MARTE: NO CAUSE FOR ALARM ! TERRORISTS IN SEARCH OF RESPITE CANNOT HARBOUR HERE

16May

There has not been any static deployment of troops in Marte for quite sometime in line with the need to emphasise more aggressive patrol of many threatened isolated communities while the assault on the forests and mountain hideouts of terrorists is ongoing. Only occasional patrols and surveillance have been undertaken towards the area as the bulk of troops are engaged in the operation to clear the terrorists from all identified enclaves in the forest. Besides, Marte had been deserted by citizens most of whom had fled to other towns while others are in IDP camps located in Maiduguri and other places.

It is understandable that those terrorists escaping from the offensive operations in Sambisa and other enclaves are looking for place of respite. They must have found the Marte deserted and decided to harbour there. No problem. Now that their presence is reported, the issue will definitely be addressed in a very short while. There is really no cause for alarm in the way some reports are presenting this situation as if it is a meaningful resurgence of the terrorists. This will only fool the terrorists and there sympathisers into false celebration . There will certainly be no respite for terrorists anywhere in Nigeria. Wait and see

BH has recaptured a town, bombed a bus station!

Regular Nigerian army can't fight! The 72 strike force can't be anywhere to protect towns. At this rate you should hire Saffers again to retrain your entire army.

Usual desperado news. BH didn't capture any town. Marte is an abandoned town. BH were fleeing and took refuge there. Nah wah for desperate people.

I am so sick of the laziness of some in the media! Yet these “journalists” taint the many good ones out there as they are too lazy to do even the most basic of research. I suspect some actually want us to write their media reports and simply allow them to get paid for it.

The same media that now wants to sing the NA’s praises is the same media that made use of every opportunity to belittle the NA. Sickening in my opinion.

That's unnecessary, Mr Barlow on international news admitted to have been directly involved in war by flying gunships and fighter jets, using an old tradition and art of bushmen and Khoisan, the craft that is still being used in SANDF by tracking the tracks of insurgents, gathering intelligence, etc.

He contacted me on Twitter and I told him to speak to the NA. I have been emphatic that any victories by the NA were NA victories and not STTEPs. He, as many other journos, do not want to give the NA any credit.
I have asked the question to them why they do not investigate the “training” the NA got from the other foreign trainers for several years and why that training was so ineffective. It seems this is something they desperately wish to avoid.

NAF Plans 3 Additional Forwarding Base To Patrol Nigeria Airspace – Amosu
— May 7, 2015 5:58 pm | 0 Comments

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu, on Thursday said that the Nigerian Air Force would establish more forwarding base for effective patrol of the nation’s airspace.

Amosu made this known when he briefed newsmen as part of activities marking the Nigerian Air Force 51st Anniversary in Abuja.

According to him, the NAF is expecting three more additional platforms that will be fitted with forward ‘infarite radar’.

He also said that ‘’the good news about the radar is that they can equally operate in the night.

We have already established some Forwarding Operation Bases (FOB) to complement the maritime end.

We have one FOB in Badagry, one in Mubi already established and we are still going to construct additional bases in Muguno.

“It will help us to position tact helicopters in those locations for effective border patrols.

“The maritime area is very vital and most people don’t pay attention there because those equipment they could be smuggling in to fight in the North-East could essentially come from the maritime area.

“So, we need to see what is going on there. How do we derive funding for the nation? It has to do with port activities and we need to pay attention to the maritime area.’’

He said since his assumption of office, NAF had been able to acquire more platforms to support the counter terrorism operations.

“We will keep on agitating for technology as soon as the operation is concluded.

“My recommendation is that we must be progressive because we have competitive demand for the scarce resources we have,’’ Amosu said.

He said “my dream for the NAF is to have sufficient platforms located in strategic locations so that when there is a distress call, the NAF will be there in 20 minutes.

“When we show up in the 20 minutes the land forces… will marry up.

“The NAF is a good force to invest on and you invest not so huge but the results are enormous.’’

The Air Force chief said the NAF had embarked on elaborate training of its personnel and also ensured that their barracks were well secured.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that The Nigerian Air Force was formally established on April 18, 1964 with the passage of the Air Force Act 1964 by an Act of the parliament.

The Act stated that the ‘Nigerian Air Force shall be charged with the defence of the Federal Republic by air, and to give effect thereto, the personnel shall be trained in such duties as in the air as well as on the ground.’ (NAN)

That arrangement is very stup.id and it said to have been organised by the incompetent Nigerian military. What if the militants flee deeper into Nigeria? The MNJTF will not be allowed to go any deeper, isn't? so, the arrangement of responsibilities does not do MNJTF any good.

Your military is lead by clueless leadership whose aim is only to protect their ego and have no interest to serve the people of Nigeria.

You're just not worth the hassle.

We are talking about two different incidences, Marte and Sambisa forest. I am talking about Marte which has been forcefully taken away from your troops.

It is untrue. Marte was never taken in the first place.

http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/dhq-terrorists-sympathizers-fabricating-stories-to-discredit-military-success/207911/

"Similarly, he noted, the claim by some media organizations that terrorists chased out troops and took over Marte cannot be verified as troops were busy elsewhere during the said attack.

However, he added, all efforts to track the terrorists who were reported to have attacked the town have not indicated their presence as claimed.

He said: "Surveillance activities are however ongoing although there has been no indication of the large number of terrorists as being claimed in some reports attributed to anonymous sources.

"The terrorist are certainly no longer capable of that level of coordinated action by thousands of terrorists as reported".

The problem is that you kicked the Chadian army out of your borders when they wanted to chase the rebels deep in your country knowing well that rebels fled somewhere they knew. What did you do when they requested permission? you kicked them out and told them the situation is under control and that you will manage to drive them out all alone. The insurgents did not wait for you to drive them out. They revisited Damasak when most people returned back thinking it was now safe. They were left all alone in mercy of Boko Haram since you kicked Chad out of your jurisdiction. The leadership in your military needs to be changed. It now good mews that the soon to leave, rotten political leadership has been changed, all that is now left is to reshuffle your current military generals.

Your military is incapable. It does not care about the security of the people.

You see how daft you are. The jurisdiction of the MNJTF was and is to secure the border regions and Towns near the border and hold on to them (including surrounding areas). They were not to take paparazzi with them to get glory.

They shouldn't have left the towns as Nigerian troops were advancing from the South.

The Chadians falsely told Nigerian troops that Dikwa was liberated only for Nigerian troops to walk into an ambush.

The Chadians and friends were told to make their requests through the proper channels so the facts could be established.

The Chadians kept going in and out of Damask without securing the surrounding area, hence BH kept returning.

I'm talking about the PMCs.

They're flying combat missions with NAF so they qualify to be called mercinaries, over the past months people have been saying "NO these guys are training and advising the Nigerian armed forces".

And I'm not saying Nigerian pilots aren't flying or taking part in the ops. And we can't tell if his Ukrainian or not it is possible he can be Russian, South African etc

I repeat for the final time not to derail this thread. All indications point to Ukraine. The last Hind that crashed killed the Nigerian pilot and Ukrainian instructor.

Changes the whole narrative that PMCs in Nigeria are just trainers and advisors.

Since they engage in fighting they can be called mercinaries.

No they are not. The co-pilot in the front seat (who wasn't visible) is usually the gunner, while the pilot normally sits behind (the Ukranian that was visible). The co-pilot (Nigerian) was doing the shooting.

This was only for the Hinds attached to the Stike Force. There are many other Hinds involved in the conflict flown by Nigerian crews.
