Transfer: I am worth over €100m – Osimhen

Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, has claimed he is worth over €100 million.

Osimhen, speaking with TuttoSport, insisted he is one of the best footballers in the world currently.

The 25-year-old was key to Napoli’s Scudetto triumph two seasons ago, scoring 26 goals in Serie A.

It saw Osimhen also become the first African player to become the Capocannoniere.

However, last season, it was clear that Osimhen was going to part ways with Napoli. He was linked to PSG, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Al Ahli, but the deal failed to materialize.

Eventually, he signed for Turkish giants Galatasaray on a season-long deal, after he was frozen out of Napoli’s squad for the season.

In his four games at the club, Osimhen has registered two goals and four assists.

And in a recent interview, Osimhen said: “I am worth more than 100 million euros. There are few players like me in the world who have achieved the same results and success as me.

“Everything is linked to my characteristics, the things I do on the pitch and my quality. I think I deserve a high valuation.

“I am aware of the contribution I can give to a team. Do people think differently? Some say 15 million euros, others say 100-120-150. Everyone has different opinions.”

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has confirmed Augustine Eguavoen will continue his role as Super Eagles interim head coach.

The executive committee of the NFF approved the recommendation of its

Technical and Development Sub-Committee to retain the services of the former international.

Eguavoen will now take charge of the team in next month’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Libya.

The 58-year-old steered the three-time African champions to a 3-0 defeat of Benin Republic and scoreless draw with Rwanda in Matchdays 1 and 2 earlier this month.

The former defender will also continue working with Fidelis Ilechukwu, Daniel Ogunmodede, Olatunji Baruwa and Tomaz Zorec.

Eguavoen will also take charge of the Super Eagles B team for the qualifying campaign for next year’s African Nations Championship, otherwise known as CHAN.

Bruno Labbadia Tactics: What to expect from Finidi George's replacement in the Super Eagles

The NFF has finally confirmed German coach Bruno Labbadia as Finidi George's replacement in the Super Eagles. But what can you expect from him?

After the NFF move that shocked Nigerians, newly appointed Super Eagles coach Bruno Labbadia is set to usher in a tactical revolution for the national team.

Ahead of his return per the latest report, Pulse Sports Nigeria takes a look at key aspects of Labbadia's potential strategic vision for the Super Eagles, which seems to promise a dynamic and modern approach to the beautiful game.

Bruno Labbadia: Formation
At the heart of Labbadia's tactical setup is a flexible approach to team formation. The German tactician is expected to deploy a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 system.

This adaptability aims to maximise the Super Eagles' strengths while exploiting opponents' weaknesses.

The 4-3-3 formation is likely to be Labbadia's primary choice, offering a balance of defensive stability and attacking threat.

Labbadia's tactical blueprint places a strong emphasis on ball possession, a significant shift from the more direct approach favoured by the former foreign boss, Jose Peseiro.

Stylistically, Super Eagles could me more aggressive off the ball than under Finidi George who resigned after as Super Eagles boss in June.
Stylistically, Super Eagles could me more aggressive off the ball than under Finidi George who resigned after as Super Eagles boss in June.
While Super Eagles are expected to adopt a patient build-up style closer to what was seen under Finidi George, Labbadia's is characterised by increased lateral passing. This approach aims to control the tempo of matches and create spaces by drawing opponents out of position.

However, the German's possession game is not without its cutting edge. The team will be instructed to mix in occasional forward passes to penetrate defensive lines and create scoring opportunities.

Bruno Labbadia has managed some top Bundesliga side like Bayer Leverkusen and Hertha Berlin.

This balanced approach will require players with high technical proficiency and tactical awareness, potentially influencing future squad selections.

Positional Play and Movement
One of the most intriguing aspects of Labbadia's tactics is his focus on intelligent positional play. Fullbacks will be given license to push high up the pitch, providing width in attack and additional passing options.

Labbadia is set to implement positional play in the Super Eagles.

This aggressive fullback positioning will be complemented by wide forwards tucking inside, creating half-spaces and allowing for intricate combination play in dangerous areas.

This fluid system demands constant movement and rotation from all players, particularly in midfield, where one of the CMs moves wide. The aim is to create numerical advantages across the pitch, overloading central areas and exploiting gaps in the opposition's defensive structure.

Perhaps the most significant change in the Super Eagles' approach will be the implementation of an aggressive pressing system.

Labbadia is known for his high intensity pressing tactics, of course, as a German, this should not come as a surprise, which aim to disrupt opponents' build-up play and force turnovers in dangerous areas.

Super Eagles superstars Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman will be important to Bruno's pressing style..
The pressing game will be triggered by specific cues, such as poor touches or back passes to the goalkeeper.

This coordinated approach requires excellent communication and stamina from the entire team, potentially influencing Labbadia's fitness regimes and player selection criteria.

Bruno loves to high press.
Challenges and Expectations
While Labbadia's tactical history promises a potential exciting new era for the Super Eagles, it also presents significant challenges.

The successful implementation of this system will require time, and patience, something the German may not have based on his intriguing reputation. Labbadia averages less than 1.5 years on his job as a coach.

The first glimpse of Labbadia's tactical revolution is keenly anticipated, with the Super Eagles' upcoming AFCON qualifiers early next month likely to provide more insights into how quickly the team can adapt to their new coach's philosophy.

As Nigerians look ahead to future AFCON and World Cup qualifiers, all eyes will be on Labbadia and his tactical blueprint, with the jury already out.

Labbadia lasts less than 1.5 years as a coach before he is fired.
With this expected overhaul of the Super Eagles' playing style, Nigerian football stands on the brink of a new era. However, the coming months will reveal whether Labbadia can improve and elevate the Super Eagles to new heights after poor performances under Finidi George.

Ahmed Musa set to return to NPFL

Super Eagles icon Ahmed Musa is on the verge of making a sensational return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), but with a twist: he's asking Nigerian fans to help him choose his next club.

The 31-year-old forward, without a club since leaving Turkish side Sivasspor in February 2024, took to social media to involve fans in his decision-making process.

The former Kebbi United striker has announced his arrival to the top league.

With scores tied at 1-1, the big striker was introduced on the hour and eight minutes later fired the home team ahead at 2-1.

‘You can’t cage such players’ - Ex-Super Eagles star claims Eguavoen is a better coach than Peseiro

A former Super Eagles player has discussed his opinions of Nigeria's interim coach, saying Austin Eguavoen is superior to Jose Peseiro.

Eguavoen became the Super Eagles' interim coach after the NFF failed to fill the position following the departure of Findi George.

He has led the Super Eagles in two games against Benin Republic and Rwanda, managing four points in both games.

His performance has been hailed by Idah Peterside, who believes that he is a better coach than who led the Super Eagles to the final of the 2023 AFCON tournament.

‘I am willing to serve’ - Eguavoen’s assistant coach pleased with Super Eagles

Peterside hails Eguavoen impact
Peterside thinks that Eguavoen's short-term success with the talented group is more valuable than whatever Peseiro accomplished during his tenure with the three-time AFCON winners.

Speaking on Channels TV, the former goalkeeper said, “The team showed more attacking intent and fluidity under Eguavoen. We scored three goals against Benin and kept a clean sheet.

“In Kigali, the goalkeeper was their hero – that shows we dominated and attacked. Under Peseiro, the South African coach even said he was surprised by Nigeria’s defensive strategy, especially with the quality of players like Iwobi, Osimhen, and Lookman. You can’t cage such players.

“We have the best set of players in Africa, and Austin has given them the freedom to express themselves.

“The performances in Uyo and Kigali are evidence of that. When this team continues to build confidence like this, they will be absolutely unstoppable.”

Eguavoen will stay with the Super Eagles in the meantime while they attempt to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2025 AFCON competitions.
