You have been described with different negative attributes, how do you feel about it?

That is true. I have been called several names. I have been described with words that are not even printable, but the truth of the matter is that a lot of the people who have described me don’t even know me to start with. People have said different things about me and there is no truth in what they have said. I am a humble, friendly and simple lady. But most time, when people want to pass a comment and they don’t know what to say, they just blab what they know nothing about, and that has being my story.

But you were recently accused of criticising Tonto Dikeh for turning a singer?

That is not true, I would never do that. Why would I criticise her when I am not an expert in music? I did not do anything like that and Tonto knows I would never say anything derogatory about her. Thank God we are both in the showbiz industry where we understand how things work. That story was cooked up by somebody who did not have a story to write and he just needed to fabricate one. I know what the person wanted to achieve, but I am too smart for that. They wanted us to start fighting with each other, but we are just too mature for that.

Do you still keep friends because some of your old friends have caused you problems in the past?

I don’t have friends in Nigeria. My friends are all in the United State of America.

What about Ruggedman, is he no longer your friend?

You won’t expect me to call people who I see once in a while my friends. Most of my friends are in America and we keep in touch.

How often do you speak with 9ice?

We have the interest of our son at heart.

Is there the possibility of reconciliation?

I don’t want to talk about that please. I am not God so I can’t say yes or no. At the end of the day, only God knows where our future is headed. Let’s move on to something else.

Are you in a relationship presently?

I don’t want to talk about that too.

Any regrets about how your marriage went?

In life there are always two sides to things. People never gave me a chance before judging me. I received so many insults, hate mails over something I did not do. It was painful knowing I was innocent yet a lot of people were quick to crucify me. I will just say to those who judged me blindly, may God forgive you. Next time find out facts before castigating an innocent person. In Nigeria, women are usually judged unfairly. It is very unfair.

What has motherhood changed in you?

It has made me more tolerant at the same time more protective. A mother and son love is unique. It is a very special feeling.

As the Nigerian economic condition bites harder, many male citizens are now ready to sell their semen to couples who need them for procreation.

Many of the respondents to the vox pop conducted by our correspondent said they would not hesitate to donate their sperm for cash as long as it is not for ritual purposes but to help couples battling with infertility have children.

Those who said they would not mind making their sperm available for sale included young as well as married men.Donation of sperm and female eggs to couples and fertility clinics, considered a normal practice in most parts of the western world, had been a discrete practice in Nigeria due to the country’s religious and cultural beliefs.Only four of the 25 male respondents said they would never engage in such an act with the excuse that it was sinful.


Some of those favourably disposed to it said they would donate their semen based on the condition that they would not be made to know who exactly needs it while others said they were only concerned with the money that would come from the transaction.

“Why won’t I sell mine if I see a possible buyer?” asked Chibuike Nnamdi who sells women’s wares at the Ojuore market, Ota, Ogun state, Southwest Nigeria.

I am ready oh!,” he said.

A resident of Iyana-Iyesi area of the state, who gave his name simply as Michael, said once the money is good, he would sell his semen.

“Most guys these days ease themselves by masturbating and thus wasting fertile sperm seriously needed by married families battling infertility.

“Therefore, rather than for me to continue to waste mine, I am ready to grab any opportunity that comes with selling it.

“I’m just imagining myself masturbating and instead of someone to scold me, he pays me. That’s good enough,” the graduate of Chemistry said.

Mr. Mike, a married man who has two children, simply asked: “bros, where is it done? Where is the hospital? Introduce me and we will share the proceeds.”
Another married man resident in Ikeja who refused to mention his name but said he had four children, said many male Nigerians including him would sell.

Hear him: “it may sound absurd at first for someone to approach you to sell your sperm for that purpose or for you to even realise that you could sell it, but in the end, you will sell.
“Just imagine how many men have kids outside wedlock, the one they call love kids, which they never tell their family but which continue to trouble them all through life.

“Imagine again, how much you would spend just to have extra-marital affairs with a lady or when you are dating her. In this case, rather than for you to be paying, someone is paying you.”
Mr. Sumanu Giwa, a 40-year old businessman in the Lagos Island area of Lagos, said he would sell on the condition that he was not made to know the family that needs the sperm.

“If I have the opportunity to sell to a hospital, I will gladly do it and make some money which would assist my business,” he said.
Sumanu’s friend, Monday, even gave an insight into another form of sperm donation.
According to him, some men battling with infertility and have no money to buy sperm from fertility clinic now pay young healthy and fertile men to sleep with and impregnate their wives.

“There would be an understanding between the man and his wife. Then they would travel very far and look for a man very distant from them who would sleep with the woman for pay,” he said.

He said one of his friends living in Asaba, Delta state now has a child from such mutual and confidential arrangement.

A resident of Agege, Mr. P. A. Ayo, said he would rather see selling of sperm to couples in need as assistance to them.

According to a report released last weekend by American lifestyle magazine, Vanity Fair, Nigerian oil Tycoon, Mrs Folorunsho Alakija owns five apartments in London’s One Hyde Park, the world’s most expensive apartment block.

Vanity Fair in their report wrote that Mrs Alakija owns five apartments in the 6,000 pounds-per-square-feet apartment block which she bought at a combined fee of $123 million (N18.4billion), making her the second highest property owner in the upmarket area after Rinat Akhmetov, Ukraine’s richest man and owner of Ukranian football club, Shaktar Donesk, whose property is valued at $215.9 million.

Others who own property at One Hyde Park include some of the richest men in Britain, Russia, Taiwan, sheiks from UAE, Naomi Campbell's boyfriend Vladislav Doronin also owns an apartment there.

According to the investigation by tax haven expert, Nicholas Shaxton, who wrote the report for Vanity Fair, just 17 of the 76 sold apartments are primary residences. Because the property owners are so wealthy, many of them have other homes and do not use their exclusive Hyde Park address as their permanent home. Shaxton also revealed that many of the owners use offshore companies to buy the homes to enable them hide their identity.

Pity for the Nation Nigeria as I read Dele Momodu's latest article. Below is a brief excerpt:

ABUJA ON MY MIND:
Fellow Nigerians, I made my first trip to Abuja in nearly two years yesterday morning. Let me confess that Abuja is not one of my favourite cities. The reasons are legion. I find the city too disorganised for a federal capital territory that was built from scratch less than four decades ago.

For me, Abuja is a poor imitation and a tragic mimicry of Canberra in Australia, where I’m told the original idea, concept and inspiration came from. It lacks the superlative infrastructure of Brasilia in Brazil, another purpose built capital city...

...My depression was further compounded on returning to the hotel and reading how the great country of Saudi Arabia has finally decided to challenge the effrontery of Dubai in the Middle East by erecting the new world’s tallest building in Jeddah. By the time it is ready, it would have pushed Dubai’s Burj Khalifa to a pitiable second place. The builders of The Shard Skyscraper of London, according to a Reuters’ report on Yahoo news, have been appointed Project Managers for a beautiful sum of $1.2billion (about N192billion). The Kingdom Tower Skyscraper is expected to stand at over one kilometre tall in the skyline of Jeddah.

Saudi Arabia is generally on a spending spree to improve infrastructure as well as meet its housing commitments. Now wait for this, the skyscraper will take just five years to accomplish complete with boutique hotel, luxury condominiums and serviced apartments. I was left with no choice than to wonder where our own leaders descended from that they can’t have such tall ambitions.

Why have they limited us to commissioning boreholes?
How can we think of rehabilitating Abuja prostitutes with billions of Naira when we can use the same money to tackle the root causes? How can a new Abuja Gate become our priority when our children are crying for mercy and compassion? What about the laughable edifice that we now learn is meant to be the pied-à-terre of visiting African First Ladies long after our indefatigable First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, has gone into glorious oblivion?

We build our skyscrapers in the tummies of some politicians and their acolytes. We have not been able to construct a stretch of road between Lagos and Benin City in the last 14 years. We have failed to fully rehabilitate the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway within the same period. I doubt if any road in Nigeria can ever pass a rigorous test against international standards. We keep spending billions on our airports with no substantial results. What we wasted on fuel subsidy alone last year would have built six tallest buildings or more in the most famous capitals of the world. But we chose to fritter ours away.

My submission is that we can do better. And it won’t take much to achieve.
Our leaders at the very top only need to make up their minds if they are in power to improve the fortunes of their people or to scavenge and embark on outrageous self aggrandizement at the expense of those luckless citizens of this great country called Nigeria. Our leaders must choose between creating sustainable, worthwhile structures that will lead to the greater emancipation of our people rather than embarking on white elephant projects which eventually become our albatross. Ultimately our leaders have to decide whether they want Nigeria to grow or whether they simply want to wreck it like many others before them. That decision is very crucial to the citizenry no matter how difficult it may seem for our present crop of titular leaders.

Their choice is the thin line between success and failure of the Nigerian nation.

Brooke Greenberg may look like an infant, but she is actually 20 years old.

Despite her increasing age, Brooke has remained physically and cognitively similar to a toddler, with an estimated mental age of nine months to one year.

Appearing on Katie with her parents and 17-year-old sister, Brooke, who is from Maryland, is unable to talk, still has her baby teeth and like any infant, travels in a push chair - but doctors have never been able to explain why.

Her father, Howard Greenberg, explained: 'From age one to four, Brooke changed. She got a little bit bigger. But age four, four to five, she stopped.'

She has been examined by some of the most prestigious medical institutions in the U.S., however no formal diagnosis for Brooke’s condition has been given, leading doctors to term her condition Syndrome X.

Dr Eric Schadt, director of the Icahn Institute for Genomics and Multiscale Biology at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, explained that she has 'no apparent abnormalities in her endocrine system, no gross chromosomal abnormalities, or any of the other disruptions known to occur in humans that can cause developmental issues.'
Brooke, who has stayed the same size for 15 years, requires 24-hour care from her parents.

She is fed through a tube inserted into her stomach, because her oesophagus is so small that swallowed food could back up into her lungs and cause pneumonia.

Her mother, Melanie Greenberg, said: 'It's been 16 years of on the job training, giving her medicine, knowing when she's sick, knowing the right amount.'

Mr Greenberg added: 'The key with Brooke is we don't know what tomorrow brings.'

Scientists believe her unique genetic code could provide a fresh insight into the process of aging, leading to the development of new treatments for diseases related to old age, such as Parkinson's.

Tests have shown that Brooke, who was born in 1993, may suffer from a gene mutation that switches off her ability to mature.

Dr Schadt is in the process of sequencing Brooke’s genome, which is comprised of two long strings of letters, one from the mother and one from the father.

Each string is three billion letters long, and changes in just one of these letters can lead to profound effects on development, physical appearance, and risk of disease.

An Indian father whose 15-year-old conjoined twin daughters are living in increasing agony has pleaded for help – or for them to be allowed to die.

Saba and Farah Shakeel are joined at the skull and have been suffering terrible headaches, joint pain and slurred speech as they grow older.

The girls have received specialist help in the past, thanks to the intervention of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, but their father, Mohammed, who works on a tea stall in Patna, cannot afford any more treatment.

His wage of just £65 a month is used up supporting his family of eight.

Mr Shakeel describes his daughters' condition as so miserable that the Indian government should allow doctors to carry out a mercy killing.

Five years ago Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed paid for the girls to visit some of the foremost conjoined twin specialists, including American Benjamin Carson, to investigate ways of separating them.

At that time the girls were in much better spirits and health. They could only move in a crab-like fashion, but enjoyed playing board games and watching Bollywood films.

Mr Shakeel was told that the girls would require up to six operations to separate them, each carrying a one in five chance that one of them would not survive.

He decided not to take the risk, despite the Crown Prince's offer to pay.

Five years later, the girls' condition is so much worse that Mr Shakeel has come to the heart-breaking conclusion that their suffering should come to an end, unless someone can fund treatment.

The dependency on Farah's kidneys is causing them to suffer weight loss and high blood pressure.

He told The Daily Telegraph: ‘The girls want to live and enjoy life as others do but when they are in pain, they cry and ask for help.

‘All we want is either the government should come and help us treat them or allow them to die, because they are in a miserable condition.’

The twins' elder brother, Tamana Ahmad Malik, said the pair were in excruciating pain all the time they are awake, which is at least 15 hours a day.

'In the last few months, they've suffered continuous headache and body pain. They have difficulty in speaking and their limbs have become twisted,' he said.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday re-arraigned a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, over alleged money laundering.

Fani-Kayode appeared before Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia of a Federal High Court in Lagos, on a 47-count charge. He, however, pleaded not guilty.

His counsel, Chief Ladi Williams, prayed the court to allow him to continue with the bail granted him by Justice Ramat Mohammed, who earlier handled the case.

Williams also prayed the court to allow Fani-Kayode the liberty to travel abroad at will for medical check up, as granted him by Justice Binta Murtala- Nyako, who also had handled the case.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the prosecution counsel, Mr Nelson Okedinachi, did not object to the applications.

Thus, Ofili-Ajumogobia held that the defendant would continue with the bail granted him by Mohammed, before whom he was first arraigned in December, 2008.
The judge adjourned the case to March 11 for substantive trial.
