A Nigerian dad who lost his wife while she was six months pregnant was saved from having a double tragedy by medical doctors in the UK after they helped to deliver his daughter alive 35-year-old Emmanuel Olubayo's wife, Emma, a nursing team leader, collapsed from an undetected heart defect and died in the home they shared in Leicestershire in November last year. Paramedics tried for an hour to resuscitate the 41-year-old before performing a rare posthumous delivery via Caesarean section on the living room floor in the couple's home. The couple's baby girl Aretha was delivered alive then taken to hospital. Emmanuel said he was shocked to become a father and a widower on the same day. “It is hard and I don’t really know how I am coping as single dad but I am. I have to be strong for Aretha. One day I will tell her all about her mother and how wonderful she was.” Emmanuel told Leicester news Aretha was born 10 weeks prematurely and was taken to hospital where she was cared for by members of the team that Emma led – the critical care outreach team which covers Glenfield Hospital, Leicester Royal Infirmary and Leicester General Hospital. Emmanuel said himself and Emma met on a dating site and fell in love afterwards. “I knew when I started chatting to Emma online that she was special," he said. "We had an immediate connection. We got on really well and arranged to meet after three weeks chatting.” They had their first date in May 2016, he proposed in December of the same year and they got married in April 2017. “I caught a train after work and we met at about 7pm. We did not want the night to end and I caught the last train home to Birmingham. The evening had flown by and we talked about everything and nothing. We could not wait to see each other and were in contact all the time from that night on. It was as if we were meant to be together. I gave Emma a sapphire ring and asked her to marry me. She said yes and was ecstatic. Everyone cheered. It was beautiful.” he said Within a month after their wedding, Emma became pregnant. “We were both delighted that we were pregnant so quickly. Everything was going so well. It was great and we were making plans for the future. We wanted a couple of children. We did not want to know what sex the baby was. We wanted it to be a surprise. It was fun choosing names for a boy and for a girl.” he said Sadly, Emma died and never met their daughter. More than 650 people attended Emma’s funeral. http://www.vondanews.com/photos-of-nigerian-man-with-his-baby-whose-wife-died-in-her-sixth-month-of-pregnancy/

Governor Abdul’aziz Yari of Zamfara State said he had dropped his responsibility as Chief Security Officer of the state as he had no control over security machinery in the state. Speaking to newsmen in Talata-Mafara on Friday, Yari said that his decision stemmed from the seeming helplessness of the state government and the people over recurring killings in the state. He deplored the prevailing situation whereas the chief security officer of the state, he could not take decisions on strategies for protecting the state and its people, and had it implemented. “We have been facing serious security challenges over the years, but in spite of being governor and Chief Security Officer of the state, I cannot direct security officers on what to do nor sanction them when they err. “As Chief Security Officer, the nomenclature is just a name,” he said. The governor lamented that it was disheartening that killings in the state had continued in spite of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s order to security agencies to end the incessant blood-letting across the country. According to him, since the president’s order, the killings have not stopped. In a week there were attacks in this state which claimed over 30 lives. He said that the state government was spending a huge amount of its resources on security but to no avail. Yari, therefore, urged people of the state to be more faithful to God and embark on special prayers over the challenges facing the state. He also appealed to them to be patient and continue to cooperate with the government and security agencies as steps were being taken to address the challenges. “We cannot keep quiet while our people are being killed daily. We are going to cooperate with all stakeholders to bring the situation to an end,” he added. http://www.vondanews.com/zamfara-governor-resigns-as-chief-security-officer-of-state/

It was summer time and we were both young and ready for adventure and fun. I was a staff member at a summer camp, back from my first year at college and you were just out looking for some fun. I was a 20 year old male boat driver and wakeboard instructor and to this day I don’t remember your name but I know you were an 18 year old Hispanic female, very attractive and that we definitely caught each other’s eye. We were hanging out with our mutual friends at a church gathering called camp meeting. A gathering usually reserved for adults to talk about boring church business while the younger age groups get into trouble. That was where we caught each other’s eye. I remember watching you and your sister laughing and joking and feeling the primal urge arise inside of me. Something about you drove me crazy. I remember the moment I happened to glance down as you were writing in the dust on my friends car. I caught site of the word “penis” I looked up and our eyes locked. I glanced away uncomfortably but there was no question what we both wanted. After a few minutes of gentle flirting you hopped into the back seat of my friends car as he got ready to drive away. You looked at me and said, “You coming?” I responded with a, “where ya headed?” And got the response, “we are going to blow shit up.” “I’m in!” I responded eagerly and hopped in the back seat. We were pressed very close together with you partially on my lap but neither of us minded and I only half fought the growing erection in my pants. Meanwhile you didn’t seem to mind feeling it press against you in the crowded back seat. Read more here: http://www.vondanews.com/when-church-kids-get-nauty/

Niger State government has pleaded with the Federal Government for immediate assistance to tackle the flood ravaging the state, especially in the resettlement of communities already affected by the perennial flood. The state Acting Governor, Ahmed Ketso made this appeal yesterday in an interactive session with journalists after inaugurating Correspondents Chapel of NUJ office in Minna. He explained that as the rains set in this year, “several communities within the planes of rivers Niger and Kaduna are now being threatened by the impending flood.” Communities mostly affected, according to the Acting Governor, include Shiroro, Mokwa, Lavun, Borgu, Wushishi, Lapai abd Agaie Local Government areas, with their houses and farm produce submerged completely. He said already, the state government has sent a letter of appeal to the Federal Government seeking for its prompt intervention to save the lives of millions of people affected by flood every year in the state. Alhaji Ketso noted that the Federal Government’s intervention on the worst hit communities in Muregi area of the state during the Obasanjo regime, had since stopped. He said: “At our own level, we have started sensitising the people living within the prone areas and we are hoping that the federal government will soon assist us in the resettlement efforts towards finding a permanent solution to the problem of flood disaster in the state. “Regrettably, several lives have been lost to the annual flooding in the affected areas, while farm produce worth millions of naira have also been destroyed because most of them are predominantly farmers. “Even up till now, many of these farmers are jobless because they do not have anywhere to go, to continue with their businesses.” http://www.vondanews.com/niger-begs-fg-for-intervention-in-flood-disasters-resettlement

Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr has banned players from eating goat meat and pepper soup as they prepare for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. This comes after consecutive losses to England and the Czech Republic in the World Cup friendly matches. Rohr is now restricting the players who are camped in Austria from some certain meals as he bids to keep them in good condition for the tournament. In an interview with Omasports TV, the German tactician stated that the Super Eagles players will not be permitted to eat goat meat, pepper soup, and other spicy foods. He said, “The reason is because nutritionist will tell you that too much spicy foods is not good for athletes. “We have to observe what they tell us, and the medical team agreed that we cannot eat too much fat and too much spice." But he also revealed that there may be instances whereby the ban could be lifted. He said, “For instance, there can be an exception on Sunday the night we will be here, there will be a little Austrian music, perhaps a little African food, from Madam ambassador, so we will see See video here http://www.vondanews.com/8894-2/

A Nigerian deportee who just arrived from Libya has given a startling confession at T.B. Joshua’s Church in Lagos, painting an alarming picture of the death toll of African migrants seeking to illegally enter Europe. Efe Alimi, an Edo State indigene, revealed how he had participated in the mass burial of 5,300 bodies in a single day on the Libyan shore, decomposing remains of those who had drowned while attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Europe. “Most of the bodies washed up on the shore had decayed. When we picked them up, their flesh peeled away to the bone. Some were without ears, eyes or breasts. All were my African brothers and sisters,” he recollected in a shocking revelation posted to T.B. Joshua’s official Facebook Page. According to Alimi, the bodies were dumped into a mass grave, crushed by excavators and then covered by the Libyans who had picked him and a group of other migrants to do the “dirty job”. Alimi travelled to the North African nation via Niger in 2013. 29 embarked on the dangerous journey through the Sahara Desert but only 9 reached Libya. “I actually buried 20 people in the desert,”Alimi recalled, adding that he only survived by drinking urine after they were stranded for five days without food or water. After an unsuccessful attempt to cross the Mediterranean to Italy in 2017, he was imprisoned in an underground dungeon for one year before the intervention of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), who facilitated his return to Nigeria. Another deportee, Johnson Imonigie, equally shared distressing details of how the makeshift boat he was in capsized en route to Italy. 121 were on board and 87 drowned. Even prior to his attempt to cross the ocean, Johnson had been kidnapped and sold into slavery three times in Libya. During his incarceration, one of his close friends was beaten to death in his presence. “They decided to beat me on my manhood,” he vividly recalled.“I can’t even begin to describe the pain. I was there the day they hit my friend there so hard he actually died.” On Tuesday 5thJune 2018, 171 Nigerians were voluntarily deported from Libya, over 90 of them deciding to visit Joshua’s famed Church in search of aid. Hearing their plight, Joshua and his ‘Emmanuel TV Partners’ gave the group N3m ($8,500) to help them start their lives afresh in Nigeria. The news comes on the heels of the United Nations imposing sanctions on six leaders of human trafficking networks in Libya http://www.vondanews.com/we-buried-over-5000-corpses-in-a-single-day-says-libyan-deportee/ |
