Can't our Navy or engineers build this small ship
Ship that is bugged

A ship that is bugged can be debugged.

The Nigerian Navy has ship building capabilities, but not quite this level as of now.

This is NNS Andoni, built by the Nigerian Navy and commissioned in 2017. They are currently building a bigger ship, so it is a process.

I think you didn't get my point sir. The meaning of decommission is not the crux of my point because the word de-commission itself is self explanatory. Also, it is stated in the report that this is a new ship and it takes the name Lana which is the name of the one decommissioned under the corrupt PDP/ GEJ administration. So I didn't bring up any confusion on which ship is in context. It is this new Lana.

What I drew your attention to is that the GEJ administration decommissioned a ship and didn't get it replaced even in the face of obvious need to replace the one his administration de-commissioned with him as the Grand Commander of The Armed Forces, rather his administration outsourced the security task the Lana he decommissioned and didn't replace should have done to Tompolo, his kinsman ,Ijaw man( emphasis is mine to draw attention to the nepotism of that administration too) and one who once took up arms against the FG.

That is referenced for posterity and to help me appreciate the government for not passing on the task of replacing that ship decommissioned by his predecessor to his successor while our waterways remain unsafe.

If the corrupt PDP/ GEJ administration that decommissioned Lana 1 had built a new one, this would have been the second ship so that we have both in use or one as back up when there's need for security reinforcements.

I am sure the Naval officers are happy and you can read the pride of being a Nigerian Navy personnel in the statement they made in Ghana. God bless President Muhammadu Buhari. God bless Nigeria.

I understood your point bro, but I just corrected your phrasing because others might read it and think it was the same shIp, just refurbished. You know how our Naija people reason sometimes. wink

Nigerian Navy Takes Delivery Of Hydrographic Research Vessel From OCEA
French Shipyard OCEA delivered on 15 April 2021 a new hydrographic research vessel to the Nigerian Navy. NNS Lana is based on the OCEA OSV 190 SC-WB design.

Naval News.com

Xavier Vavasseur

19 Apr 2021

The OCEA OSV 190 SC-WB is a hydrographic and oceanographic research vessel from OCEA’s line of auxiliary vessels.

The vessel designed by OCEA offers excellent operational capabilities thanks to optimized seakeeping, controlled integration of scientific systems and reduced impact on the observed environment: noise, radiation, as has been confirmed by SHOM and Kongsberg on the OSV 190 SC-WB “KRI RIGEL 933” and “KRI SPICA 934” operated by the Indonesian Navy.

NNS Lana will allow the Nigerian Navy to have a better knowledge of its maritime territory and its Exclusive Economic Zone:

- Coastal and deep sea scientific research and studies (hydrography, oceanography)
- Fishing control
- Surveillance of the Exclusive Economic Zone
- Assistance and supplies to other boats
- Helicopter winching operation
- Towing of ships.

To carry out its missions, the ship is equipped with high-performance technical and scientific means, in particular:

- A deep water multibeam echosounder
- A single beam depth-water sounder
- Side scan sonar
- A current meter
- Means of sampling, storage and analysis of water, fish and sediment
- Laboratory hardware and software
- An 8 m hydrographic boat equipped for data surveys along the coasts in small and very shallow waters.
- OCEA OSV 190 SC-WB specifications

•Length(overall): 60.10m

•Max Draft(m): 3.5m

•Autonomy: 4400nm @ 12 knots

•Endurance: 20 days

•Speed: 14.0knots

•Crew and scientific staff: 50 people

Thank God for the Buhari administration. This is the same ship that was decommissioned 10 years ago during the locust thieving PDP/ GEJ administration when oil price was doing fine. It was the time the GEJ administration handed over the management of our waterways to Tompolo. Smh.
May God bless PMB. May God bless Nigeria my fatherland.

It's not ''the same ship that was decommissioned 10 years ago''.

This is a brand new ship. But it inherited its name from the old ship you're referring to.

New Nigerian Navy Ship voyages to Tema Port en-route Nigeria
By Ghana News Agency -May 17, 2021

A new Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS LANA, Offshore Survey Vessel, has passed through the Tema Port on its way to Nigeria from France, where it was built.

The Offshore Survey Vessel 190 MKII is equipped with state-of-the-art survey equipment and a 7.6-meter surface vehicle for shallow water survey.

The ship has an Automatic Weather Station (AWS), wet and dry laboratories, scientific and technical workshops as well as operation and processing rooms for geographical studies, search and rescue operations and patrol duties.

NNS LANA is envisaged to afford the Nigerian Navy Hydrographic Department leverage to successfully and systematically conduct hydrographic surveys and charting of Nigeria’s waters.

The vessel was handed over to the Nigerian Navy in France on January 15, 2021, after provisional acceptance trials with a change of flag ceremony conducted on April 15.

It embarked on its maiden voyage from France to Nigeria with a brief stopover at the Tema Port where Ghana’s Chief of Defence Staff and other high-ranking Ghanaian Navy Officers inspected the ship.

Rear Admiral Emmanuel Olatunji Beckley, a representative of the Chief of Naval Staff of the Nigerian Navy, and Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo, who addressed the press after an inspection of the vessel on its maiden voyage.

He said: “NNS LANA will not only enhance the safety of Nigeria’s maritime environment but the ship will serve as a critical component in the projection of naval power for enhanced maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea”.

He said the new vessel would play a critical role in the protection of maritime resources and preservation of law and order at sea, thus contributing significantly to the promotion of global maritime commerce.

He said the construction of NNS LANA by Messrs OCEA, a French shipbuilding company, was conceived as a rebirth of a previously decommissioned NNS LANA about ten years ago.

He said the entry of the vessel into the Nigerian Naval fleet was in fulfilment of the dream of enhancing the Navy’s survey capabilities.

Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Ghana Armed Forces, who was flanked by other high-ranking officials from the Ghana Navy, said the acquisition of the vessel by the Nigerian Navy was a commendable feat and would give the country full maritime domain awareness.

He said it would further contribute immensely to the fight against the growing insecurity, particularly piracy, on the Gulf of Guinea, adding that the ship, amongst other functions, would improve general security.

The CDS applauded the Nigerian Navy, especially the Commanding Officer of the Ship, Captain Abdullateef Bappah Mahamud and his crew on their voyage from France to Ghana, and said, the achievement chalked by Nigeria was a shining example to Africa.

He said plans were afoot to acquire a similar well-equipped vessel for Ghana in the future to play a critical role in the protection of maritime resources and preservation of maritime law and order at sea.

Present at the event was Rear Admiral Issah Yakubu, Chief of Naval Staff; Commodore Emmanuel Ayensu Kwarfo, Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command; Ambassador Gamba Hamza, Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, amongst other officials.

Yeah, but you can only do the restructuring through the parties and political system.

Hence individual interests will play a huge role.

CAN is a body of illiterate, ignorant supporters of atrocities, massacres, and injustice against the Palestinian people.

Their support for Israel is ignorant, perverse, wicked, and based on religion, rather than justice.

Nigeria will NOT support the inhuman treatment of the Palestinians just because they are muslims.

CAN is a DISGUSTING let down and a disgrace to humanity.

African freedom fighters, from Mandela to Steve Biko to Nkrumah to Malcolm X, to Kenyatta to Martin Luther King jr, have always supported the Palestinian cause against the US backed Israeli aggression and theft of Palestinian land and territory, and the grossly unequal duel between Israel and Palestine.

And what does our worthless, uselesss CAN do?

''Oh we support Israel''.

Brainless mumu dullards who have likely never picked up a history book in their entire lives to even know the history of that region. All they see is ''muslim'' meaning ''we must oppose them''.

Zero sense of justice or equity.

DISGUSTING.

The op is right.
Expecting a northerners especially a president with a military background to restructure nigeria is plain stupidity.
Buhari will never restructure nigeria. He will rather go to war with any warring faction than negotiate unity of nigeria.
If southerners are passionate about restructuring as they claim. They should hold the jugular of their politicians, and drum it into their ears that RESTRUCTURING IS A MUST AFTER 2023.
Anything apart from this is just playing politics.
However, it's good the noise of restructuring is getting louder...I hope it doesn't go silent once we have a southern president come 2023.

THAT is the crux of the matter (the highlighted).

I believe it will all go silent again, for the aforementioned reasons.

Truth be told, the ONLY PEOPLE in NIgeria for whom restructuring is a good idea, are the Niger Delta people.

Nobody else.

It's all just NOISE.

Does Oyo state really want to forgo the monthly allocation from Abuja, from oil and gas receipts, in favour of cocoa export receipts?

Does Anambra state really want to forgo monthly allocation from Abuja, to depend on puny palm oil export earnings instead?

Of course not. Those things earn you peanuts.

So the south will come to power in 2023, and there will be NO restructuring. At most, it will be cosmetic restructuring - state police, etc etc, but with no major reshaping of the national income centralisation and allocation systems.

The plain, unavoidable truth is that restructuring amounts to impoverishing the rest of the nation to benefit the Niger Delta.

So it won't happen.

Restructuring is a responsibility of the opposition,no ruling party subscribe to it.

You've made a fantastic point. One I never even thought about.

Those in power, whether southern or northern, never want a restructuring of Nigeria.

They are happy as things are, and the southerners only shout 'restructure' when they are out of power.

The southern ruling classes BENEFIT from Nigeria as it stands, and their cry to ''restructure'' is really just an empty opposition cry to embarrass/destabilize the Buhari govt.

The minute the south come to power, all talk of restructuring ends, because the southern politicians BENEFIT from Nigeria as it is.

How?

They benefit from the protection given them by the federated Nigerian military.

They benefit from the centralisation of national income. If we were to truly restructure, that would mean the Delta would get to keep all their oil and gas earnings, which account for 75% of fed govt foreign exchange earnings.

No more miliki.

No more monthly allocation to states.

No more money for projects, salaries, etc etc.

Igbo politicians would starve. Yoruba politicians would starve. Hausa and Fulani politicians would starve.

Nigeria may not be restructured in any fundamental way, because NONE of the politicians actually, truly wants it.

And for the exact same reasons given above, Nigeria will not be allowed to break up either.

PDP led Nigeria for 16 years. THE SOUTH led Nigeria for 16 years, and controlled hundreds of billions of dollars, much of which was looted.

Fulanis were powerless.

Why didn't the PDP start the process of restructuring?

They did not. But it is a NORTHERN govt which has the least to benefit from restructuring, that you expect to start the process?

Failing which you break up the nation?

What sort of gross stupidity and foolishness is that?

Instead of foolishly seeking to break up Africa's biggest economy, why not wait till a southern govt replaces Buhari in a year's time, and then make sure that this time, a full restructuring of the nation is achieved?

That Nigeria is not restructured today is the fault of the south, not the north.

The south had a good 16 years to do it, and failed.

Try again with the next govt and stop disturbing us with your foolish secessionist rubbish.
