Fashion/Clothing Market / Racist Vogue Causes Controversy - Again with trendy "Slave Earrings" by rover321: 1:22pm On Aug 22, 2011
Racist? Vogue Italia has come under fire for featuring the controversial article focusing on what it calls the trend for 'slave earrings'

Slavery and all that was associated with it, to most people conjures up pain, indignity, touture, violation and the worst type of human right violation one could ever imagine. Slavery does not conjure up high fashion, style or glamour! Surely in such a connected and more diverse world, Vogue should know better than to choose to name and celebrate a piece of fashion with such a strong association with slavery.

Foreign Affairs / Re: London Riots: How Can Africa Help England? by rover321: 11:10am On Aug 11, 2011
lol the suggestions are meant to point out some ironies. You know, what the Brits usually "suggest" or "recommend" to the rest of the world when they have problems? smiley
Foreign Affairs / African Union Issues "funny" Statement On London Riots by rover321: 9:54am On Aug 11, 2011
“ETHIOPIA. The African Union today adopted a unilateral resolution to deploy army troops and care packages to England as looting and violence spread from London to other major cities. Spokesperson Charity Khumalo said “We can no longer stand by while these savages tear themselves apart.”

The AU, meeting today in an emergency session to discuss the ongoing rioting in the UK, has declared that they will do “everything in their power to help bring civilisation to England”.

“It’s just so sad, you know?” said Khumalo, speaking from the organisation’s HQ in Addis Ababa. “Sitting here and watching them on TV while their society implodes. We cannot in good conscience remain idle and let it happen.”

The AU has announced a range of initiatives that Africans can get involved with to help alleviate the misery of the English.

“For instance, we have launched an ‘Adopt an English child’ programme,” Khumalo explained, showing journalists brochures featuring the faces of English kids. “If you donate a mere R50 a month, you can see to it that sweet little Johnny from Peckham receives a basic education, a pack of condoms and a pair of pimpin’ Nikes.”

Foreign Affairs / London Riots: How Can Africa Help England? by rover321: 9:51am On Aug 11, 2011
3 suggestions - Add Yours

1) Mentoring Scheme: It is evident that the only way to get England out of this crisis is to empower the country and its people to take action. That means access to information on how to run successful businesses that will help reduce youth worklessness. African countries should be incentivized to mentor small businesses in England to help them acquire the necessary skills and business acumen to compete effectively in a modern global world. It is fair to assume that given a free reign as is the case in Nigeria, multinational companies under the guise of “mentoring”, “knowledge transfer” and doing “business” are prone to exploiting their host country, destroying the natural environment (land, vegetation etc) and promoting corrupt practices. African companies who decide to operate in England, must endevour to eschew any exploitative practices as long as doing so is in their interest and the self interest of their respective governments

2) Rehabilitate Child Rioters: Children are uniquely vulnerable to recruitment and manipulation into violence because they are innocent and impressionable. They are forced or enticed to join gangs, rioting parties and armed groups. Basic rights and freedoms of children must be protected by ensuring England signs on to the United Nation’s Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Involvement of Children in Armed Conflict.

3) African Union: For reasons of history and self-interest the African Union is best placed to act as an ‘agency of restraint’. The explosion of conflict and anarchy in England is too serious to ignore. With its high tech peace keeping force the African Union is well placed to step in to quell the violence if and when needed, with or indeed without oversight or approval by the United Nations or respect for national soverignty and borders.

Politics / Uk Prime Minister: Nigeria Predicted To Have The Highest Gdp Growth In The World by rover321: 7:59am On Jul 20, 2011
“Tell me this: which part of the world has seen its number of democracies increase nearly eight-fold in just two decades? Eastern Europe? No, it’s Africa. Which continent has six of the ten fastest growing economies in the world? Asia? No, it’s Africa. Which country is predicted by some to have the highest average GDP growth in the world over the next 40 years? You might think Brazil, Russia, India or China. No. Think Africa. Think Nigeria.

“The point I want to make today, is this: This can be Africa’s moment. Africa is transforming in a way no-one thought possible 20 years ago, and suddenly a whole new future seems within reach. I have known for a long time about the tremendous energy and ingenuity of the Nigerian people. From the civil activism of the churches of South London to the contribution of Nigerians to British business, law, medicine, sport and music, I have seen the passion and enterprise of Nigerians changing my country for the better. But what I have seen in London I have seen a hundred-fold here today.

Culture / Colonial Theme Weddings Are Not Racist? by rover321: 12:01pm On Jul 15, 2011
This is an "interesting" omment from someone who clearly does not see racism in the photos below. Are they racist, insensitive or just a very small storm in a very small tea cup? judge for yourself.

Comment:
This has to be the most ridiculous post I have seen in a while- but if you’re really interested in checking out racist stuff, I would suggest that you go to http://www.southafrica.info – the official South African site for touristy types- Here you can get a days trip to the same area and go see the indigents all decked out in colonial period clothing- they’ll even dance for you- now if that’s not exploitation then what is?- o sorry the answer is that approximately 26% of the population is unemployed and some people will do anything for money- including educating people on issues of national pride- but then they are dressed in traditional garb so by your definition this must be racist…, This blog is rubbish- 1st of all they’re not even in colonial dress- the waitrons that is- and if they are, then it definitely isn’t South African more along an Indian theme- so wrong continent my dear and wrong time period.

I would suggest that you are a racist yourself- the definition of racism being the belief that there are inherent differences in people’s traits and capacities that are entirely due to their race, however defined, and that, as a consequence, justify the different treatment of those people, both socially and legally. I.e- you see it you own it.

I honestly do not see the relevance of a wedding held in an impoverished area, providing employment to people- and having them wear red fezzes- as being racist- but then I am South African- and have stayed in this country and am working towards a better future. You on the other hand have probably never been to South Africa- have been talking to some cheesy expat who ran away when the going got tough and now sits on the other side of the world with his/her Mandela T shirt sprouting platitudes about how wonderful ZA would be if it wasn’t for all the racists there- point is darling…. most of the racists have left the country and now sit on the other side of the world with their Mandela T shirts….

It’s a themed wedding- that’s all- not some political commentary and not some white led hatred of the masses- and btw has anybody bothered to ask the waitrons as to how they feel about the garb- no?- thought so- it basically sums up the mass hysteria/ poo journalism/ lets incite to comment that this  has posted- so sorry if the place shuts down, sorry if the employees get canned and good one for the usual crap that gets out in the name of how-de-doo-dee…,  I have no problem what so ever in getting married in the country with a themed wedding- be it Pirates of the Caribbean or Colonial or Gatsby or whatever- good on the owners for having some initiative and shame on you for being so racist!

Jokes Etc / Nigerian Uses Old Boarding Pass To get through American Airport security by rover321: 5:18pm On Jul 02, 2011
Olajide Oluwaseun Noibi, a Nigerian-American man, managed to bypass all layers of airport security and avoid arrest for five days after Virgin America and authorities learned that he'd flown from New York to Los Angeles as a stowaway. It all started when some of his nearby passengers on the Virgin America flight complained that he was emanating powerful B.O.

On his popular Youtube video channel, this is one of the descriptions he has to a video (looks like one made for a church ad) which i assume he produced.

"There are a lot of activities that we do now that we won't do in heaven! The one activity we do now that we will do in heaven? Worship. We will be doing that forever. In fact, you can sort of look at this Ad as an Invitation to practice! " smiley

Via http://www.myweku.com/forum/offbeat-funny-weird-sad-stuff/364-nigerian-man-uses-old-boarding-pass-fly-virgin-america.html#post1091

Here is his face book page wall, full of "teachings"

From the Los Angeles Times:

A flight attendant asked Olajide Oluwaseun Noibi for his boarding pass and was surprised to see it was from a different fight and in someone else's name. She alerted authorities, and Noibi went back to sleep in his black leather airline seat. When the plane landed, authorities chose not to arrest Noibi, allowing him to leave the airport.
On Wednesday, Noibi was arrested trying to board a Delta flight out of Los Angeles. Once again, he had managed to pass undetected through security with an expired ticket issued in someone else's name. Authorities found at least 10 other boarding passes, none of which belonged to him. Law enforcement sources told The Times they suspect Noibi has used expired plane tickets to sneak on to flights in the past. On his website, Noibi describes himself as a "frequent traveler."

(, ) Noibi, also known as Seun Noibi, proclaims himself a "storyteller, strategist and designer who is passionate about reaching the world for Jesus," according to his Facebook page. He was arrested in Chicago in 2008 after allegedly refusing to pay a $4.70 fare on a Metra train. Those charges were later dropped.
Noibi faces stowaway charges and is scheduled to appear in federal court Friday.

Business / Nigeria On Track To Overtake South Africa To Be Africa's Largest Economy By 2023 by rover321: 7:58pm On Jun 28, 2011
Standard Chartered Plc, which operates in 13 African countries, said Nigeria may overtake South Africa to become the continent’s largest economy in just over a decade. The prediction comes with a warning though  wink

“Assuming South Africa grows by 4 percent and Nigeria by 7 percent, Nigeria will become the larger economy in 2023,” Razia Khan, Standard Chartered’s regional head of research for Africa, said in a report released from London today. Nigeria has a population of more than 150 million, three times as many as South Africa. Moreover, about 42 percent of that population is under the age of 14, compared with 31 percent in South Africa. The size of Nigeria’s domestic market, its oil and gas reserves and sales of bank stakes have been attracting investors, including banks such as Standard Chartered and Africa’s largest, Standard Bank Group Ltd,
