kultimate009: Down syndrome (DS) or Down's syndrome,
also known as trisomy 21, is a genetic disorder
caused by the presence of all or part of a third
copy of chromosome 21.

It is typically associated with physical growth delays, characteristic facial features, and mild to
moderate intellectual disability.

The average IQ of a young adult with Down syndrome is 50, equivalent to the mental age of an 8- or 9-year-old child, but this varies widely.

It is also one of the most relegated illnesses in Africa and probably the one that needs the most attention. A lot of down syndrome sufferers in Africa experience a lot of mental and physical discrimination from mostly ignorant folks. Glad to see them bring the issue to light and educate more people on it. Will be donating a token to their cause. God bless Nigeria, God bless Africa.

Thanks for a lot for the instructive insight into Down syndrome. We do need more of such interventions in public fora like Nairaland. I agree with you that it is one of the rarely-discussed conditions in Nigeria. That was one of the motivations for the charity climb. The goal is to get more people talking about down syndrome and ultimately change perceptions about the condition and those with it. Please continue to spread the word and help reach out to your friends to donate in support of the amazing work Down Syndrome Foundation is doing in Nigeria in bringing succor and support to folks living with Down Syndrome.

Asante sana.

Literature / Re: What Happened To Our Reading Culture? by rovinghigh: 7:39pm On Feb 03, 2010
our declining reading culture or better put, our scant regards for reading matter is at the heart of many of our problems as a nation.A reading people is a questioning and discerning citizenry. People who do not read do not question the status quo and their continued existence faces serious threats. We will start to make incremental progress when we pay more premium to books.
we have nothing to lose but our ignorance and a blissful world to gain. Nigerian Bibliophiles, arise!

hello folks,
I just happened on this. It could be the biggest refutation of the lies and spoofs that mr yar'adua's kitchen cabinet has been feeding the longsuffering masses of this country. let's get done with all the bare-faced lies so that we can at least move on with our lives.
I don't know how credible this source is but, it could be a pointer. Who knows!
