If you haven’t completed your NYSC yet, this is great information for you.

If you have just concluded your service year or are about to conclude, it’s great you are seeing this at this time.

Think back to your NYSC days… You see, ending NYSC comes with mixed feelings. First, thrills and then confusion for most people. For some others, it is a time to launch ahead confidently.

Why does it come with mixed feelings? It is because if you haven’t gotten a job yet, you’ld be wondering how your next allowance will come. If you are feeling this way, you are definitely not alone. A lot of graduates have felt this way.

Infact, some employees, not in the job of their dreams, are still trying to figure it out. And those you see have their dream jobs have felt this way at one point in their lives, if they didn’t have the guidance to help them.

So, let me give you 6 tips you must begin to do immediately to end your confusion in the job finding process, and kickstart your journey.

1. Be honest with your skill set level. What is your present skillset like right NOW?

This is 2022. Most employers require that you have some skills added to your degree. Even for most multinationals where the least requirement to apply is a 2.1 & above, you need to show that you have skills to give you an edge. Digital skills are in top demand now. Hone them or acquire them if you do not have digital skills.

Digital Skills in demand now are:
- Software Development
- Social Media Management
- Digital Marketing (Funnels, Copywriting, Facebook Ads, Instagram Ads, Google Ads)
- UI/UX
- Graphics Design
- Product Design
- Excel
- Web Design

It doesn’t matter if your course of study is not correlated with being skilled digitally… digital skills are applicable to any field of study.

One thing you must understand is this... ”Your certificate will not put food on your table. It’s your skills that will.” Nobody pays you for what you claim to have. You are only paid for the value you bring to the table.

If you don’t have digital skills, have a plan now that within the next 3 months, you will get these skills.

A great CV gets you noticed and lands you that job interview.
The CV you have right now, does it properly represent you or position you for the dream job you want? Does it sell your skills in an exceptional way? Or is your CV a wishy-washy representation of you, that even you can trash?

Writing a great CV requires some knowledge. The first part in writing a great CV is doing great research on the company you want to apply to. If you don’t know what skills and knowledge your employers are looking for, it will be difficult to write a CV that stands you out.

Even if you didn’t come out with great grades while in school, there are other aspects that can be well written out in your CV that will position you for the kind of job you want.

Some tips for writing a great CV are:

- Use active verbs when possible. It presents you as a person who shows initiative.
- Have a general CV that you can always tailor to the job you are applying for. Never send a general CV. Always tailor your CV.
- Make sure your email address sounds professional.
- Use professional, clear fonts like Arial, Calibri or Times New Roman.

Aside from your CV, you should also include a cover letter except the job posting says so.

The purpose of your cover letter is to give a summary of who you are, your interest in the position and why you're a good fit for the position.

3. Have an optimized LinkedIn Profile.

It’s not enough to have a LinkedIn profile. Your LinkedIn profile must be optimized such that it shows up for the kind of job you want, when recruiters are actively searching on the platform. And if you don’t have a LinkedIn profile right now, you are missing out!!!

Some tips on writing an optimized LinkedIn profile are:

- Write an amazing summary: [/b]Your summary should highlight your expertise, specialties, thought leadership and career experiences. You should also infuse your story in your summary. People love stories.
[b]- Use relevant keywords: [/b]LinkedIn is a professional board, and also a search platform. Add the keywords you want to show up for in your headline and summary, when recruiters are searching for their next candidates.
[b]- Streamline the LinkedIn Jobs section to show only the kind of jobs you want. LinkedIn jobs is a great resource and can be streamlined to show the kind of jobs you want.



4. Be subscribed to job sites and job portals.

There are a lot of job sites you should be subscribed to, so that you can always be notified of job postings.

Some examples are , etc. This is key.

5. Drop your CVs in HR companies.

Doing this is another way to get your dream job. One disadvantage with this is, some recruiting companies take a portion of your salary. If you don’t mind your salaries being shared by an HR company, you can go this route.


6. Start practicing Psychometric test

Most top-notch companies will require that you pass a psychometric skill test before scaling to the next stage. Psychometric tests include Numerical reasoning, logical reasoning, diagrammatic reasoning, verbal reasoning, critical reasoning, abstract reasoning, etc.
