Politics / Amaechiā€™s Aide Replies Reno: ā€œyouā€™re A Zookeeper; by ruudboie(m): 12:52pm On Mar 01, 2017
The end is not yet heard about the verbal altercations between the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechiā€™s aide, Mr. David Iyofor and the Ex-President Goodluck Jonathanā€™s aide, Reno Omokri over the alleged maladministration of the past government as Amaechiā€™s aide has, in a second letter to Omokri, asked him to answer the questions he raised in his first epistle rather than being like ā€œan excited new zookeeperā€¦who childishly and unintelligibly writes about lions, monkeys, lizards and alligators in a manner sane people cannot fathom.ā€ In the second letter titled, ā€œBefore It Is Too Late: My Second Epistle To Bitter Wendell Smilin aka Reno Omokri,ā€ Mr. Iyofor said he is deeply troubled by Renoā€™s state of mind especially at the intensely bitter obsession with infinite sadness he showed in his earlier reply to his first letter, saying ā€œwhoever spews that kind of garbage you wrote truly and urgently needs help, psychiatric and perhaps spiritual help.ā€ Recall that Omokri had in his reply article to Iyoforā€™s first letter said the Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi is ā€œ a decorated monkey only loyal to his stomach.ā€ He also said Amaechi is a ā€œpot-bellied monkeyā€ that perhaps will retire to Daura with President Muhammadu Buhari to become his house servant since he is not welcomed in his hometown in Rivers state. Read Renoā€™s reply here: Reno to Amaechi: ā€œYouā€™re a decorated monkey only loyal to your stomachā€ Omokri was responding to Iyoforā€™s first epistle that said he(Omokri) is ā€œlike a mad man in the market square that points his fingers at sane people, calling them mad.,ā€ Read also: Amaechiā€™s aide to Reno: ā€œyou are like a mad man in the market squareā€¦.ā€ But in the second letter, Mr. Iyofor said The Transport Minister will not stoop to joining Reno Omokri in the exchange of verbal salvos and neither would he(Iyofor) will join him(Omokri) in exchanging derogatory words. He said, instead, he(Iyofor) is calling on Omokriā€™s family members, friends and well-wishers to urgently rescue him from ā€œself-destructive voyage of hate, bitterness, anger and misplaced vengeance against Rotimi Amaechi, before it is too late.ā€ ā€œMy Dear Wendell Smilin aka Reno Omokri, If you are astonished that I am writing you a second letter so soon, barely 24 hours after I lovingly admonished you in my first epistle to you, kindly pardon me. I do not mean to belabour you with this letter (its not like you have anything else to do with your life, anyway). Your response early Tuesday morning to my first letter was so mortifying. Itā€™s only pertinent I write you a second one. Again, I crave your indulgence and I would try not to take too much of your time. Before I delve into the issues you raised, actually you didnā€™t raise any, all you did in that utterly disgusting piece you wrote was to attack, abuse, insult and call Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi all sorts of denigrating names. And this is the crux of my worry for you, brother Wendell Smilin. I am deeply troubled by your state of mind. You were intensely bitter and obsessed with infinite sadness. Your words were ominously dark, your thoughts deviously vengeful, replete with so much bile, unbelievable and unbridled anger as you displayed a debilitating self- destructive hate. I am afraid you may have completely lost it. Whoever spews that kind of garbage you wrote truly and urgently needs help, psychiatric and perhaps spiritual help. Itā€™s far more worrisome and urgent when that person is a duplicitous character with multiple identities, who boldly puts ā€œpastorā€, like a moniker in front of one of his multiple names. That piece was a clarion urgent call for help by Wendell Smilin aka Reno Omokri. I took you on, exposed your lies, fake news and multiple fake personalities, but you left the issues and went after Amaechi who has always completely ignored your endless hateful and vengeful attacks on him. Yours is a classical case of been beaten by Mr. A but you left Mr. A to go after Mr. B who has always ignored you. I know you crave a fight with Rotimi Amaechi, for him to trade words with you; sorry to burst your bubble-that will never happen. You avoided the issues I raised in my first letter and refused to respond to the questions I asked, but rather took the highway of the mundane and the ridiculous. You wrote two paragraphs, yes two paragraphs on the clothes Amaechi wears as if Amaechiā€™s fashion style will answer the question of whether the then CBN(Central Bank of Nigeria) governor, the same Sanusi Lamido Sanusi that you faked documents to demonize, wrote a letter to your boss and idol, that $49 billion cannot be accounted for and so was missing from NNPC account and not paid to the federation account? Come on! If you really think that Nigerians care more about how ill- fitting or well-fitting Amaechiā€™s clothes are, than their missing billons of dollars, then your problems are far more profound than I had ever imagined. Like a buffoon, overly excited new zookeeper, you childishly and unintelligibly wrote about lions, monkeys, lizards and alligators but no sane person could fathom how that answers the question of why you created a fake document and circulated fake news that sought to portray our former Central Bank Governor, now Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as a sponsor of terrorism; shamelessly and callously using the name of your brother-In- lawā€™s innocent young son, Wendell Simlin to demonize Sanusi? Brother Wendell, was it because Sanusi had the guts and courage to write the letter of the missing $49 billion to your god and idol? You gleefully wrote about Amaechiā€™s supposed potbelly and eating habits, but how does that answer the question of whether Amaechi lied when he said your god and idol did not save money in spite of the huge savings he inherited from previous administrations and was surreptitiously spending alone the money meant for Federal, States and Local Government Councils? Was Amaechi lying when he said your principalā€™s administration refused to call NEC (National Economic Council) meetings for about two years, in contravention of the constitution, so that the central administration you were part of, can covertly continue to spend unilaterally, the money meant for the three tiers of government; and that was why State Governors took the Federal Government to court to share the proceeds from the Excess Crude Account(ECA)? My dear Reno, regularly billions of our money in naira and other currencies are been recovered from operatives of your principalā€™s past administration; yet you want us to believe that Sanusi was wrong when he wrote that billions of Nigeriaā€™s money was missing. You must really think we are all fools and daft. You went on to say a whole lot of balderdash that were neither coherent nor made any sense. You blabbed continuously, throwing up and joining diverse and different items that are entirely unrelated. Severally, you presented alternative facts as facts and wrote fake news as news. Significantly, all these were done in a very incoherent and disjointed manner, which tells a lot about the state of your mind. I do not intend to dignify baloney and contemptible behaviour by responding to them. There is a saying in my village, when translated, literarily means one do not wait for his brother to remove clothes and run stark naked in the market before you acknowledge that he is going mad when the signs are all obvious. That incoherent tirade against Rotimi Amaechi by Wendell Smilin aka Reno Omokri is an obvious cry for help. Family, friends and well-wishers (if you still have any) urgently need to rescue you from this self-destructive voyage of hate, bitterness, anger and misplaced vengeance against Rotimi Amaechi, before it is too late.ā€ David Iyofor wrote from Abuja

Politics / Ambode Insists On Removing Yellow Buses (Danfo) From Lagos Roads by ruudboie(m): 6:50pm On Feb 06, 2017
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday insisted plans are afoot to remove yellow buses popularly known as Danfo from Lagos roads for a more efficient, well-structured and world class mass transportation system that would facilitate ease of movement within the city.

The Governor also said that his administration would soon roll out a comprehensive environmental sanitation policy that would make the city to be clean without much burden on the people in terms of taxes.

Speaking at the 14th Annual Lecture of the Centre for Values in Leadership (CVL) held at Muson Centre in Onikan with the theme: ā€œLiving Well Together, Tomorrow: The Challenge Of Africaā€™s Future Cities,ā€ Governor Ambode admitted that the present connectivity mode in Lagos was not acceptable and befitting for a mega city, and as such a well-structured transportation mode would soon be put in place to address the challenge.

ā€œWhen I wake up in the morning and see all these yellow buses and see Okada and all kinds of tricycles and then we claim we are a mega city, that is not true and we must first acknowledge that that is a faulty connectivity that we are running.

ā€œHaving accepted that, we have to look for the solution and that is why we want to banish yellow buses this year. We must address the issue of connectivity that makes people to move around with ease and that is where we are going.

ā€œFor instance, people going from Ikorodu to CMS have started leaving their cars at home because the buses are very convenient and so why canā€™t we do that for other places? Yes, we donā€™t have the money to do that but we can go to the capital market and then improve on the technology of collection of fares and that will encourage investors and then the city will change,ā€ Governor Ambode said.

He said government was also embarking on massive reform in waste management system, expressing optimism that the plan will fully be actualized by July this year.

He said: ā€œWe are also embarking on massive reform in the waste and sanitation management system. I donā€™t like the way the city is and the Private Sector Participants (PSP) collectors are not having enough capacity to do it but again should I tax people to death, the answer is no. I donā€™t want to tax people and so we need this partnership with the private sector so that they can invest in the sanitation management of the city and in no time maybe by July, the city will change forever.ā€
The Governor, who recalled the massive infrastructures being put in place in critical sectors of the Lagos economy such as transport sector, road construction and rehabilitation, construction of lay-bys, and flyovers among others, said the main objective of his administration remained the growth of the Lagos economy from 5th to 3rd largest economy in Africa.
On power, Governor Ambode said the major issue had always been with transmission and advocated an embedded power initiative that would allow clusters of Independent Power Projects (IPP) to run the cities.
He said he had remained focused on some issues such as infrastructure, security, job creation, power, adoption of technology as an enabler and driving investment through ease of doing business.

In his opening remarks, CVL founder and renowned development expert, Professor Pat Utomi said the idea behind the formation of the group was to get young people to begin to appreciate early what leadership was all about being service to the people.

Speaking on the theme of the symposium, Utomi said Lagos remained the best governed State in Nigeria in the last 18 years, and a good example of what the country should be beyond and without oil.

He commended Governor Ambode on his leadership style, and particularly congratulated Lagos for being named by the Rockefeller Foundation as one of the 100 most resilient cities in the world.

Chairman of the occasion and former Governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke said the theme of the symposium was apt considering that Nigeriaā€™s population by 2050 would have tripled and as such it was important for the country to start planning for livable cities.

He commended Governor Ambode over his achievements in office so far, saying that it was obvious that the Governor has been performing very well and he is a good example of continuity in governance.
On his part, Director of Centre for African Economies, Oxford University, Professor Paul Collier said from his over thirty years experience of coming to Nigeria, Governor Ambode has proven himself to be the third excellent Governor in a row in Lagos.

Collier, who was the keynote speaker, said judging by the population projection of Nigeria by 2050, now is the time for the country to start building its cities to conform with modern trend.

He said Nigeriaā€™s oil had been a course which messed up the economy, and so there was need to start proper planning for development.

As a way out, Collier suggested alliance between the business community and political actors, saying that to build a city that works, attention must be focused on energy and connectivity

Politics / Murtala Assasination: Orderly Narrates Ordeal Amidst Tears After 40 Years by ruudboie(m): 1:14pm On Mar 11, 2016
Gen. Murtala Muhammed was assassinated on February 13 1976 in a coup attempt when he was on his way to his office. Along with him that very moment was the sole survival of the attack, Sergant Michael Otuwu, who narrated what transpired that moment 40 years ago as the former head of state is been remembered.

Had the coup plotters led by Lt. Col. Buka Suka Dimka not noticed the door of General Murtala Muhammedā€™s Mercedes Benz car open minutes after it was sprayed with bullets from AK-47 assault rifles, triggering another round of firing, perhaps the late Head of State would have survived the brutal attack.
The lone survivor and Orderly to the late Head of State, Staff Sergeant Michael Otuwu, broke his silence in a highly emotional interview with The AUTHORITY Daily, nearly 40 years after the tragic incident.

According to the Orderly, on their way to work on the morning of Friday, February 13, 1976, the Head of State left his personal house in Ikoyi and was headed to work in Dodan Barracks, the seat of government, which he said was being renovated at the time.

Otuwu disclosed that beside the Head of State was his ADC, Lt. Akintunde Akinterinwa, himself (Otuwu) directly seated in the front passengerā€™s seat, with Sergeant Adamu Michika behind the wheels.
According to the Orderly, as the unsuspecting car of the Head of State stopped before a row of cars at a junction, he noticed a man in a traditional attire, babanriga (he later identified as Dimka) who approached the car, removed the flowing robe and pulled out an AK-47 rifle, shooting the driver in the head point blank.
According to the Orderly, having disabled the car by killing the driver, other soldiers clad in robes, ran towards Murtalaā€™s car and opened fire.

ā€œThe Head of State, his ADC and I all ducked while the shooting lasted,ā€ narrated the Orderly, sobbing uncontrollably as he recalled the traumatic incident. After the shooting, Otuwu continued, he heard the gunmen running towards the Radio House.

A few minutes later, he continued, he noticed that the injured ADC opened his door, apparently to come to the aid of the equally injured Commander-in-Chief.

According to the Orderly, the opened door alerted the assailants that the occupants of the vehicle were not dead ā€“ and this prompted the coup plotters to return a second time to, again, open fire on the car in order to finish them off. He passed out.

According to Otuwu, Generals TY Danjuma and Olusegun Obasanjo were lucky because they were also targets but escaped because they did not leave for their offices as early as Murtala did and they heard the radio announcement which may have fatefully altered their movement plans.

According to Otuwu, who enlisted in the Nigeria Army in 11 September, 1967, he had moved early that morning with the late Head of State from his Ikoyi residence to Dodan Barracks because the overthrown General Yakubu Gowon had not evacuated the official residence and it was not yet renovated.

His words: ā€œI was his Orderly throughout to his last day during the Dimka coup. I was inside the car with him when he was killed.
ā€œOn the morning of that February 13, we were going to the office. Sergeant Adamu Michika was the driver; Sergeant Akintunde Akinterinwa, his ADC, sat behind the driver. As an Orderly, I was in front with the driver.

ā€œWhile the Head of State sat behind me ā€“ I was the one who opens the door for him. That fateful day I came up in the morning to carry him to the office in Dodan Barracks. We got to the former Secretariat, now at Ikoyi, which was under construction.

Before the place they call Alag bon junction, near the labour office. The official car was a Mercedes Benz 600. It is still at the National Museum. There were about four or five vehicles in front of us. You know at that junction there was traffic. We didnā€™t go with sirens. During his time we didnā€™t go with escorts with the accompanying out-riders, road-closed signs and all that.

So when we got to the Alagbon junction, the traffic warden stopped the vehicle and we were in the queue. We were the fifth or sixth vehicle behind the forward vehicles that were stopped. That secretariat was under construction.

They put zincs around the compound behind that secretariat. Then some soldiers came in Agbada carrying AK-47 rifles. ā€œThey wore uniforms but covered them with Agbada. They had their Kalashnikovs with Agbada cover-up in form of camouflage. We never knew they were even waiting for us. Then one soldier from Golf Road shot and got our driver, Sergeant Michika. Our motor was neutralized.

ā€œBetween me and the driver was an arm-rest. On that arm-rest was Ogaā€™s brief case. In this brief case he puts civil dress he could use as needed. When he wants to go to Mosque, he does not like going back to Ikoyi to change.

ā€œThen some other soldiers converged on us. I canā€™t recall their number. They began to spray us from the back. All of us took cover. I fell on top of the driver; the blood of the driver covered my head. They thought the bullet got my head.

ā€œAfter the first shooting and without return of fire they must have assumed that we were all dead. The shooting was actually in two phases. They ran to the NBC to announce the assassination. They shared themselves into three.

ā€œThere was a group waiting for Obasanjo when he was about to go to the office. Also another group was waiting for TY Danjuma at Bourdillon ā€“ our own was at Ikoyi Road. It happened we were the first target that moved early from the house to the office.

ā€œBefore Obasanjo and TY Danjuma moved to their offices they have already heard the radio announcement. By the time of the first shooting, we being the target and their running to NBC to go and announce that they have already finished their assignment, the ADC who was still alive, thinking they were gone, opened the door of the Benz.

ā€œIn the first spraying of the car, except the driver who was killed, the three of us were injured but not dead. On observing the car door opening, one of the attackers, still within range, a Major, called to the others: ā€œhe never die, he never die.ā€ He was calling his group to return.

ā€œThis time around when they came back they finished their entire magazines. That was what happened. They carried everybody to the mortuary at Igbosere Hospital, not far from Kam Salem Police Headquarters. Because of the extreme cold of the mortuary, my left hand started shaking and one of the attendants saw it and called the nurses or doctors and said somebody was still alive.

ā€œFrom there they checked and confirmed I was still breathing. So they had to look for a vehicle to carry me to Dodan Barracks. From Dodan Barracks they looked for an ambulance and carried me to a hospital, Awolowo Road hospital, a military hospital.ā€

Otuwu, who hails from Kogi State, spent six months in the hospital after his miraculous survival. He has not been recognized by the army or the state. Presently, he does a few jobs for late General Murtalaā€™s son, in Abuja.
