Babalola s, for your information nairaland is a forum (social network) where issues are placed on interactive burner for discuss. And in this forum you have a plethora of status - in terms of age, experience, education, living standard and so on and so forth. In most cases, most of the contributors are faceless. Your contrary opinion is accepted. It is your opinion. But I will advise you that in public discuss like this you should stop using the word nonsense. The reason is that you do not even know who you are calling NONSENSE. Mind you we can have mentors or friends through this forum. Moderator please take note of choice of words contributors make on this forum. From the tone of your argument I have the impression that you are just out of school, therefore no experience yet.

Dvirgin, please do not mind all those giving you wrong and mockery advise. What you read in first degree does not really determines where you work. What matters is your experience and the stuff you are made of. Dele Momodu (I know most of us know him) read Yoruba and Alibaba (the comedian) read Christian Religious Knowledge at the University.

Not  to waste readers time, let me go straight to the point. As a bible student you should know ", that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour  to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all".

Today we have many graduates of up to 8 years out of school struggling to eat. We have ordinary diploma holders of not up to 2 years out of school living in opulence. My advise is that you should put your trust in God, and not what you read. Finally, I advise you to try a post graduate programme in Journalism if you can write. If not, try other things. Stop looking at what your degree can get for you in life. Begin to look unto God.
Education / Re: Is Open University An Option For Me ? by sabro(m): 5:48pm On May 25, 2009
I can understand your problem. I was once in such mess of not knowing what decision to take. But I was able to sort it out by writing a professional examination in public relations (NIPR Diploma). From the way it is, I think by the grace of God I can afford to feed my family, pay my rent and children's school fees.

I do not know what profession you are looking at. But I want to assure you that every profession has its own professional examination bodies. The plus is that professional qualifications are accepted for post graduate programmes. I am only giving you an advice. This option to me is better than remaining a School Certificate holder or going through an Open University. Human Resources on its own seems to discriminate against open studies. They do not see the modality of study as rigorous and imparting enough. The choice is left for you. But remember, make hay while the sun shines.
Education / Lasu's MCS Programme by sabro(m): 5:37pm On May 25, 2009
Please I want Nairanders that have information on LASU's Masters in Communication Studies (MCS) Part-time programme to let me know whether it is a Weekend programme (Sat/Sun) before I can buy the form which is already on sale. I want this information because of my job. My job does not give room for one to run any programme during the weekdays (Monday to Friday). Please I would be very grateful over a serious and sincere feedback.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Any Hope 4 3rd Classers by sabro(m): 5:59pm On Mar 23, 2009
It is very disappointing that at this time when the work of God is been manifested in all its ramification people are still leaning on their own understanding. The book of Proverbs chapter 3 verse 5 says "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart: and lean not unto thine own understanding". In the sight of God what is 1st, 2nd or 3rd class? My brother key in into the living words of God and you will understand what I am talking about.

I am not writing to encourage failure, but to let you know that it is only God that promotes. In Psalm 75 verses 6 & 7, it said "For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and sitteth up another. Our Lord is the one that promotes. You can be nothing with your first class. Also, you can be something with your third class. History has recorded a lot of dropouts that mad or are making impact in the global society. For your information, Bill Gate is one.

Success starts from your mind. You are what you think you are. Romans 12 verse 2 says, "And be not be conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God". Begin to think contrary to the way the world is thinking. Success starts from your mind. By even bringing this problem to this forum is enough to show that you are already feeling inferior.

My brother, what you need now is idea. Begin to think on what next. Your degree only gives you the opportunity to express yourself in the society. Gone are the days when only degree performs the magic. Except you do not know our God who said in Joshua 1 verse 8 that "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein; for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success".

On a final note, let me remind you in the word of Ecclesiastes 9 verse 11 ", that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, not yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. Think of Nigerian footballers, actors and actresses, musicians, pastors who are without first degrees not to talk of third class. You know what I mean!

My friend, the only advice I can give you is to stop leaning on your own understanding. Just put your trust in God. Who knows His mind? Again, I will advice you to narrow your job search to private businesses that are not multinationals and banks. Some private businessmen only want to see you practicalise what you know. In my present position, what I have is just a diploma in Mass Communication from University of Lagos and a chartered diploma in Public Relations (NIPR). I am not regreting, I believe I am Okay. Break away from this certificate mentality and become creative in whatever you do. Believe in yourself. Incorporate Obama's spirit into your attitude to life. Stop licking the wound of your third class, and begin to plan ahead. Stop telling people about it. Accept it the way it is and move on.

Do not let the class of your degree limit you. Always exude confidence. If you have the time and money, go for your PGD in any discipline of your choice or do a professional examination of your choice. Then go for a masters degree. Look unto God always. He is not limited by your grade. We have so many people with brilliant results roaming the streets while those with average results working in multinational companies. My brother, in terms of the best result I do not think Obama has the best in America. Leave your grade alone, God will give you job. I want you to focus on the acquisition of skills.

Politics / Re: Yar’adua Drops 20 Ministers In Cabinet Reshuffle! by sabro(m): 12:33pm On Oct 30, 2008
Some may say the sacking of 20 ministers was as a result of non-performance. I agree. But to me it goes beyond performance. In Nigeria brand of politics, appointment of ministers is seemingly carried out for political compensation. After the tenure of the yet to be announced ministers which I bet will last for not more than 24 months or thereabout, another set of ministers would literally be on the queue to end this first term with the president. If God permits, another set of ministers will resume at the onset of the second term of this administration. On and on it goes. Chop I chop kind of style you may say.

Dear Nairalanders, if yours sincerely was assisted by all in the house to clinch a particular position, don't you think I will be compensating all in a turn-by-turn manner before my tenure elapse? What is your opinion? It goes beyond performance. Don't forget PDP is involved.
Jobs/Vacancies / Graduate As Truck Drivers? by sabro(m): 1:31pm On Oct 21, 2008
"Have you been searching for job" "Are you tired of unemployment". The foregoing were the catchy and enticing questions inscribed in an advert placed on page 61 of Guardian Newspaper Newspaper dated October 21, 2008.

The advertiser seeks "holders of NCE, OND, HND, B.Sc or equivalent, with or without driving experience" to participate in a "truck driving programme that guarantees a high paying job and bright business opportunities in the emerging haulage and logistics industry".

Frankly, I wept while reading the advert. I wept because the advertiser, seemingly without conscience, needs HND and B.Sc holders to work for him as truck drivers. The question that flashed through my mind was, has employment situation gone so bad that employers now place advert seeking university or polytechnic graduates to work as truck drivers?

Some few weeks back, not a few of us were jolted to read on the pages of some newspapers that a graduate of marketing applied to work as a cleaner under Lagos State government.

Let it be known that I am not against Graduate Skill Aquisition but I am against Graduate Truck Driving Scheme which the advertiser intends introducing into our society. What a mockery! I believe the skill a graduate need is the one that would awaken his entrepreneural abilities so that he can one day become an employer. Being an employer will enable him apply whatever knowledge he acquired from the university into his business for the upliftment of mankind.

In conclusion, how many parents would be happy seeing their graduate sons and daughters ending up as truck drivers given the financial and material resources and time wasted in the course of their education?

Now fellow nairalanders, I wrote this to encourage you not to devalue your degrees or diplomas by just accepting any job that comes your way.
Career / Re: Chartered Institute Of Administration by sabro(m): 12:30pm On Oct 17, 2008

Can anyone help me with the address, telephone number(s) and possibly the e-mail address and website of Chartered Institute of Administration in Nigeria?

If there is any graduate of this body I would be pleased to interact with such person as I would like to know one or two things about the professional body.

Thanks all!
Phones / Telephone Coding by sabro(m): 2:10pm On Sep 26, 2008
I was called on phone yesterday with 017277498. The caller told me he was in Enugu. I told him it is impossible, otherwise the number would have reflected as 0427277498 on the screen. He still insists he called from Enugu and not Lagos which has 01 code. How true can this be?

Career / Nipr Diploma For Master Degree? by sabro(m): 3:40pm On Sep 24, 2008
I would be grateful if I can get a good response from the audience regarding my next move in my career in public relations. I already have a chartered diploma in public relations under the auspices of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR). With this, I can proceed and study my Masters in Communication Studies at LASU, or Master in Public Relations at UNN or possibly MBA in Public Relations at ESUT Business School. I also have a diploma in mass communication from the university of lagos, and I am a gifted writer.

But my fear is that in Nigeria high priority is given to first degree holders. However, I have the practical experience needed in my field. I would like to get an advice from those who really understand my dilemma, and also on what I am seeking advice on. Not just any advice from anybody. If I do my postgraduate programme, how demanding am I in the Nigerian labour market? Please help.

Yours Sabro.
