Its pretty weird no one has written about the American (USA) system of election, where leaders are determined not by the popular vote but by the electoral vote. In America, most times, no matter who wins the popular vote, the winner, determined by the electoral college takes it all. let's analyze the last presidential election in America. Hillary Clinton won the popular vote while Trump won the electoral college vote. it should be know that almost all members of the electoral college are well learned men and women, those who have achieved a lot in there respective fields... meaning them determining who the president of America is, according to the constitution is more important than the population. This might make little sense but let's come back to Nigeria. In Nigeria, election winners are determined by popular vote meaning if u have a billion people (illiterate, semi-literate and people who care not who the president is) who are willing or u can convince to vote for you (even using religion and ethnicity; yes we know its mostly the illiterate and semi-literate who will vote along the said line) you will surely win irrespective of the number of learned people who fight against it knowing full well that the president who wins the popular vote won't perform as expected (years of civilian rule have proved this). We all know its through knowledge the world got to where it is, while illiteracy has been a major factor keeping most African nations in the stone age. If for once we decided to practise the American system of election, we might end up getting a president who will perform reasonably well to transform our country for the better. I am still surprised the Americans (USA) have refused to export their system of governance that works wonderfully well to other countries most especially African countries but yet keep pushing us to practise the popular vote that seems far less effective. In the words of Gary Strand "Democracy is two wolves and a shape deciding on what to have for dinner".

Its normal for NYSC to pay their corpers few days to the end of the month but for the Youth corpers serving in Jigawa state, this was not the case December 2016. As of today the 7th of January 2017, no single corper have received any notification from their respective bank with regards to their allowance yet they will be required to go to work for the month of January. No explanation have been given for the delay either from the NYSC cordinator of the state or the Zonal Inspector (Z.I). The Governemnt as well is yet to say anything. please this should be taken to front page.... before those corpers there end up suffering. Lalastical and the rest.... please help make this public knowledge for maybe those corpers have lost their voice and need a helping voice. |
