Business / Re: Nigeria-china Currency Swap, Commendable, But Requires Caution -NANTS by Salas4oru(m): 10:57am On May 21, 2018
chukzyfcbb:

Yea, over dependence on us dollars or pounds has made study abroad very very expensive.

Fully processed materials will hardly find its way to China from Nigeria, they have reduced manufacturing cost to the barest minimum over there at China, we can never compete with them in processed item.

Come to think of it, I don't think China will be trading OIL with Nigeria with this swap deal because OIL is traded with the us dollars, that's how we build our foreign reserves. However, if the swap deal includes China paying for our oil with their currency then that's a good thing :-) Although With Dangote's refinery in sight, that may cut down the Chinese yuan overtime, thus adding more demand pressures on the govt.

whichever way it may seem, getting the dollars at a very cheap price is the best deal, knowing how crazy our govts economic policy can be.
You're right. Fully processed goods can't find its way to China and also the oil prices are usually quoted in $. Yuan against the naira will appreciate with time but the govt still have a list of imports not allowed into Nigeria and that list has done a lot of good even b4 the swap.
Business / Re: Nigeria-china Currency Swap, Commendable, But Requires Caution -NANTS by Salas4oru(m): 10:15am On May 21, 2018
InvertedHammer:

The Chinese are centuries smarter than Nigerians in trade deals. So China gives Nigeria $6b loan but keeps the money in a Chinese bank. Then a Chinese company executes the contract in Nigeria and gets paid in China. And that is a loan that Nigeria must pay. It is good for China and Nigerians because it will ensure that projects are actually executed not only on papers. But in terms of business negotiations, the handlers of Nigerian economy are dunces.

/

I assume the cost of paying back a loan Nigeria took when $ was 360 to naira should be cheaper to pay when $ becomes 200. But then subsequent loans would be negotiated in naira/yuan

I want it to happen so that I can amass enough dollars and store in my Dorm account, when the need to go on vacation or study abroad arises, k can then go from the storage acct and take some dollars. In fact I am seriously praying dollar should crash, and people should reject it and swoop in for the Chinese currency. so I can buy it at a very cheap rate smiley
It's a win win situation for us. It means will always put our money in the right places. Trade with the Chinese, vacation and studying in the US and Europe. The over reliance on dollar has cost us too much. Imagine tuition fees reaching #10m just because £ is 500+. But there's another side to this currency swap deal, Nigerians need to do more production. Either unprocessed, semi, or fully processed materials should find their ways to China. The citizens of this country have a role to play
Education / Re: ASUU Strike: Why FG Will Not Meet Lecturers’ Demands – Garba Shehu by Salas4oru(m): 10:22am On Aug 16, 2017
9jakohai:

To be fair, in 2013....the money looked payable...until oil fell in 2014. That's where issues started.

The real thing is that fees have to go up....or we find N3 trillion now. Just for universites

1.You are a childish bigot.Sorry, but it is the truth.

2.ASUU went on strike twice in GEJ's regime(2012, and 2013)...to get the govt to pay up the N3 trillion agreed in 2009 by Yaradua. GEJ's labour minister finally told them the truth during the second strike in 2013....that govt could not afford N3 trillion, and instead offered N1 trillion over 5 years....which they were able to pay N200bn before oil price falls made that impossible.
(Infact, just to show you how bad things were regarding financing....Governor Wike in 2013 when he was Minsiter of Educaiton signed an agreement with polytechinc lecturers to increase their salaries....an agreement all the parties were happy with. Only for the salaries and wages commision to look at the agreement and tell them that it was impossible to pay such salaries. Back in the good days of GEJ....)

3.At the moment, if we want universities to be adequately funded....we need N3 trillion naira at least. GEJ's last budget was N5 trillion in 2015. This govt is spending N8 trillion this year....much of which is borrowed. Would you agree they spend N5trillion just on universities without even spending on other sectors of education like primary, secondary, polys, colleges of education?

4.Fee rises are inevitable. Infact, fees rose under GEJ's regime in the wake of the new 2013 agreement ASUU signed with govt...simply because VC's realized that the extra money was never coming. And fees may have to go up

5.Seriously, give up your tribal bigotry. I myself have been deceived and tricked by people of all tribes, and have been helped and treated well by people of all tribes. Losing an election in 2015 is not the end of the world.
people's comments makes me laugh a lot on here. Imagine FG spending 3 trillions on universities and forgetting the other education components. I laugh in mandarin. Our primary education is still the main problem and no one is fighting for them to be funded in trillions. Most of our graduates come our half baked because the primary education system which is the foundation failed. This ASSU thing has really become a menace to our country. They know what's wrong with our education system, let them begin to fight for the right course

@op u made good points, but the rural area should hv a touch of life in it like water and Telecom network.
I was posted to Jigawa, but thank God for NL, I read a thread here of a corp member who hv served in Jigawa State advising prospective corp members not to lobby for posting in camp, I was nearly tempted to lobby for the posting through my platoon officer, but thank God I later gave up after recalling what I read on NL and also after advice from our state coordinator telling us that no one should lobby for posting as itz done based on ur area of specialisation.
And as God may hv it, when I received my posting letter, lo and behold, I was posted to a secondary school in one of the 5 emirate councils, and my PPA provided me with modest accommodation.
Meanwhile, some people that joined the band, OBS with hope that they will be given preferential treatment ended up in the State capital where many PPAs can't provide accommodation, while some were posted to rural areas.
Moreover, my only work z to go to my PPA and teach the students, as my LG z not engaged with any CDS
I am just lucky.
Here re pictures of my PPA :
lucky you. Most of us in hadejia had to get a place for ourselves, but in all, this place is not so bad sha

Op. You are their enemy for posting this . Nigerians are living in fantasy world, whenever am working at my hatchery in Nigeria , you will see all of them saying " guy you go Yankee finish come come Nigeria say na fish you wan de pursue up and down" I look at them and laugh because oil, yahoo, and political stealing have frozen their brain. Some will say there is no loan as if they don't have even a plot in their village. My mom, a single mother raised our eldest brother and sent him to UNN, where he got accounting degree, she did that using the proceeds of just one plot of land she had that is very fertile. And what did he do after graduation? He leased out the land for 35k, I just got it back last month.

Moral of my story? You are right they are lazy. Humble beginning is not in their dictionary, they have replaced it with the word "hammer" .
You're so right, the average Nigerian youth has his brain washed in school so he thinks gaining a federal government job is the best way. meanwhile he's intentions is to get one and loot the national cake. He thinks farming is stressful and too timid for him to practice.

Wetin you dey yarn? The rice paddies where the brainchild of the GEJ admin under the Adeshina-led Agricultural Transformation Program. What has Audu Ogbeh and his boss the man on top done about agriculture since they took office in 2015?

So this administration shouldn't implement the previous administration's policies because it's GEJ/PMB country? You should think deep pls before you comment. It's obvious people like you are not happy about the progress made so far as a nation. You're more concerned about your ethnicity n religious affiliations.
