Politics / Re: Atiku "Selected" As Northern Consensus Candidate by SalisuOri: 8:26pm On Nov 22, 2010
This reeks of conspiracy. IBB was the one who could depose Jonathan, hence the GEJ camp concentrating all their efforts against IBB and ignoring the other "aspirants".
Reports already in that Patience and co are popping champagne, would they have been popping champage if IBB was chosen?, they'd be having sleepless nights instead.
Politics / Re: Atiku "Selected" As Northern Consensus Candidate by SalisuOri: 4:43pm On Nov 22, 2010
Atiku?! the guy can't barely step into the U.S because of his recent money laundering activities. How will be represent the north!?, anyways, lets wait till full reports come in as the Reuters article said that Atiku's guy announced it rather than the committee, and there's been reports of all four clinching it.
Politics / Re: Former Jonathan Group Defects To Atiku’s Camp by SalisuOri: 2:14pm On Nov 22, 2010
Atiku is a seasoned politician for all his faults. However he is not presidential material, let us not forget he was de facto president for a long period and achieved very little. He will always hold sway in nigerian politics though.

GEJ has achieved zero in his 6 months. The nigerians gave him 6 months free trial, he cannot now say that he needs more time, 6 months free reign is enough time to see the mettle of a president. Jonathan is not a president, he doesn't have the personality to control all the vultures within top rank politics in nigeria. A president has to garner respect, but how can a man who has never been elected to any post, and has landed the presidency by fluke gain political respect? Politics is not a fairytale, you can become president by luck for 6 months, but that does not mean you will be a good leader, that part comes down to the strength of the man, and Jonathan is not a born leader.
Education / Re: Jonathan Laments Quality Of Nigerian Graduates by SalisuOri: 2:03pm On Nov 22, 2010
Let us guess, he will correct the graduate situation IF he is elected in april, just like he will fix nepa IF he is elected, GEJ should filter some of that siphoned bayelsa money and some of Patience's personal bank account towards education.
Politics / Re: I Am A Victim Of June 12 -IBB Says In Exclusive Interview by SalisuOri: 9:13pm On Nov 19, 2010
only a few smart people here see that IBB is very well placed to rule nigeria now, moreso than any other candidate.

When the chips are down, people will gravitate towards true leaders who have the charisma and intelligence to lead a whole nation. In 150 days GEJ has not shown the leadership skills that are needed in Nigeria. Infact, upon realizing his faults, he has become heavy-handed to try "assert" dominance which has backfired again because you can't fake strength at a Presidential level.

As with every candidate, they have their own staunch supporters and staunch haters. It's what politics is. But the undecided voting public are looking for a real leader now, and put any candidate side by side with IBB and they won't be able to compete. Also don't forget, as head of state you will always be unpopular amongst some of your countrymen, its part of the territory. But people just because they have personal grudges against IBB that the whole nation is thinking that way.

I'm just stating that you should not take the opinions of nigerians who frequent message boards as the gospel of what is happening in grassroots nigeria. A lot of nigerians live places which benefitted from the IBB regime in terms of infrastructure, agricultural development, etc. New age politics doesn't concern a large demographic of Nigerians. Nigeria is not the same as the U.S etc, so the Obama "change" (which hasn't even materialized for America yet) isn't necessarily what Nigerians want. The truth is Nigeria is too complex and stagnant at the moment for any quick change, hence all the false hopes of "electricity by april 2011" by GEJ being frowned upon now.

These articles are not constructive debates or in any way indications of what the average nigerian in the street thinks. Do you honestly believe the average nigerian struggling to eat everyday cares about June 12 and Dele Giwa accusations from 17 years ago which still havn't been proven!?. They will vote for the guy who impacted their lives, and IBB completed projects all around Nigeria so his presence is still visible in every state. Your idea of people hating IBB is based on your own feelings and not the current political situation in Nigeria.

What most nairalanders who have blind anti-IBB sentiments don't realise(or accept yet) is that IBB has the most widespread following out of all the opposition aspirants and is now in a strong political position. He is the only ruler with the widespread influence who can hold Nigeria together at the current time, and you're seeing more and more nigerians now turning to IBB for his leadership skills to steady the boat and put in place structures for the real change in Nigeria which will happen within the next decade or two.

Im sorry to say but some Nairalanders are not in touch at all with grassroots Nigeria and are not paying attention closely enough to the election race because they're too caught up in blind support of their own candidates. IBB has a very realistic chance at the 2011 presidency and as events keep unfolding it'll be obvious he IS the best candidate at this particular time. Politics isn't about emotion and some people here don't seem to be able to sit and think objectively about the future of Nigeria.
Politics / Re: 2011 - International Community Support Gej - Blair by SalisuOri: 7:40pm On Nov 18, 2010
Beaf:

You are only exposing the olodo in you.
Take care of your ignorance and the rest will fall in place. You will find that ex-leaders of both the US and UK speak for their govts as super ambassadors.

Plant a brain and grow it. grin

No offence to you sir, but if you believe that tony blair is still relevant in UK politics you are mistaken. He is all about the money now hence his work for the big financial institutes as an "advisor". If Blair really wanted to endorse GEJ and help him keep power, he would've kept quiet and done his bidding silently. This is about chopping GEJ's money before they desert him one by one for a leader who the west can actually work with. GEJ is not on the same intelligence, charisma, experience level of Blair or any senior statesmen i.e they will not leave Nigeria's oil in GEJ's inexperienced hands knowing he and his "aides" will loot everything to the highest bidder.

"Gone are the days people live in oblivion, the world is now a global villiage and to get recorgnition in that space is something ONE should crave for!
I am fully behind GEJ as i suppose every Nigerian, that has substainable developement in mind, should.

Under 3 months in office, Obama spotted his good heart and had him over in the US, that is a land mark! if Mr Blair affirms that, why r some hating?

Since he came into office, PHCN power supply has been stable in my area. In less than a year in office! this is a miracle!!! i know that forces of good shall overcome the forces of evil that has thus far, has held us captives."

This post is what is wrong with many Nigerians today. You will be laughed at if you said this in real life and let me tell u why:

1)you can "suppose" every nigerian is behind GEJ but you will be surely dissapointed when you come back down to reality and look at his ever slipping political power. Do you even read the news besides articles that are favourable to your own candidate?

2)Obama did not "spot his good heart". In fact Michelle Obama refuses to socialise with Patience Goodluck because of her money laundering activities and the U.S (especially the Obama administration) will not mingle with people who have fresh money laundering accusations against them. The Jonathan oil bunkering and Bayelsa treasury looting are also too fresh for it to be swept under the carpet.

3)PHCN has been stable in your area? You must be typing from the Presidential villa I assume, because no other part of nigeria has seen this miraclous stable power supply you talk about.

4)Tony Blair is not the prime minister of the UK and does not speak for the "international community". He was PAID to turn up as statesman do. Try getting David Cameron to "endorse" GEJ and see how far you get.

5)The old "evil" forces you talk about are supporting GEJ right now (OBJ cough cough), and lets not forget in his 150 days Jonathan has already wasted a big piece of the nigerian treasury, so don't sit there and tell us false tales when we've all heard about the 3 private jets, wasted independance day money, and looting that has gone on during his 150 days.

6)If you wish to endorse GEJ because you believe the UK is supporting him, perhaps you would like to address one of Obama's team visiting Ibrahim Babangida last year for discussions in Minna? Or Babangida's relationship with the english monarchy? You're naivety is blinding you my friend.

Sorry for the long post, but this topic is ridiculous and it boggles my mind that adults can still be so naive regarding the political landscape of the world. It's one of the main reasons Nigerians get into trouble, they believe every fantasy told to them by "their man" and become blinded until they realise their candidate has pulled the wool over their eyes, and they have no-one else to blame but themselves for not sitting back and thinking logically.
