Politics / The Future Of Nigeria by sammy501: 9:17am On Jan 18, 2019
This is for the Nigerian Youth! I believe now is the best chance we have at actually making a difference in this country. I mean, with regards to the forth coming presidential election. I am strongly convinced that we have the capability and resources to make this coming election favour us.

I saw the rate at which we all turned up for the ‘#10YearsChallenge’ on social media and that got me thinking. We seem to be more concerned and interested in trifle matters while we care less about the big stuff. Shouldn’t we start a campaign that says we don’t want anyone who’s over 70 years old to become our president Don’t let us be deceived, if one of these old folks becomes our president again, we (youths) will be here whining and complaining when we could have done something about it in the past.
We are so tired of this country that we all want to move out of the country at any cost and means possible, though we are being denied visa every day. Recently, a close friend of mine just relocated to Liberia in search of a better life, Liberia o not even South Africa.

I’m convinced beyond doubt that the rate at which young guys who get involved in illegal means of making money will reduce, if this country is under good administrative leadership. To the ‘illegal guys,’ time to wake up! Aren’t you tired of one white woman raining curses on you and your unborn children? Really. Wake up brothers and sisters! Get your voters card and vote for a young presidential candidate, preferably someone below 50 years old.

Recently, some people have been using female underwears for money rituals. Are we really surprised this kind of thing is happening? Cause I’m not surprised. Some people, mostly our parents will say it’s because they want to get money really quick at a young age and that’s why they engage in such acts but that’s not the whole truth. Yes, we do have the lazy and greedy ones but what about those that are working hard and smart and yet don’t have anything to show for it?

I’ve lived in the northern part of Nigeria and I see how majority of the uneducated young northerners hail Buhari and sing the song of ‘Sai baba’ even though most of them are Meruwa and Keke drivers. However, one thing they do better than us western educated people is that they turn up and vote for their candidate and subsequently win the election. That we are educated should be an advantage to us and we can actually make use of the social media platforms in creating awareness that will put an end to old illiterates and unhealthy citizens governing us.

For those youth who’re trying to get money through legitimate means, keep it up! Most of you are now selling goods and offering one service or the other on WhatsApp. It’s a good thing we still have youth who are ready to take responsibility for their lives. But don’t let us stop there, let us also take responsibility for the future of our nation. Let our children be born into a new world, and not such as we have now. These old folks have been in power for like ever and they want to remain there. Why Let us put an end to this vicious cycle of oppression and poverty being repeated by these power hungry fellows. It is high time someone who actually knows the challenges of the common man in our Nigerian Society took charge.

The main message of this article is this: instead of spending our (youthful) energy and time on meaningless stuff on social media, let us channel the same energy and time in campaigning for a youthful presidential candidate. For me, I’m going for Fela Durotoye, you don’t have to support him but don’t support those old folks! For your information, I don’t know this guy personally, never met him or anything but I’m sure he has substance. I’m not saying he will turn things around in a jiffy, No. But let’s give a young blood a try and see what he has to offer!
