When Albert Flick came before a judge in Portland, Maine, in 2010, he was in his late 60s, and had spent roughly a third of his life in prison. . After doing time for killing his wife, he had assaulted another woman and gone back to jail, only to get out and attack a third woman. .

Flick’s violent tendencies didn’t seem likely to go away with age, both the prosecutor and his probation officer warned. . But the judge chose to sentence him to just shy of four years in prison, noting that by the time he was released in 2014, he would be 72 or 73. “At some point Mr. Flick is going to age out of his capacity to engage in this conduct and incarcerating him beyond the time that he ages out doesn’t seem to me to make good sense,” Maine Superior Court, Justice Robert E. Crowley, had said. However, eight years after that hearing, Flick struck again, fatally stabbing a woman outside a laundromat in Lewiston, Maine, as her 11-year-old twin sons watched. .
Now 77, he was convicted of murder on Wednesday, and, this time, it looks likely that he’ll spend the rest of his life in prison. The charges carry a minimum 25-year sentence, and prosecutors plan to request that he be placed behind bars for life.

A Lagos-based man, Mathew Isichei Chukwuebuka, has narrated how he mysteriously found himself in Ibadan, Oyo State, after answering a phone call from a father and son kidnap gang.

The victim told the Lagos State Police Command that he was called through his phone and doesn’t know how he got to Ibadan. Mathew said upon his arrival, he was given something from a black pot to eat, causing him to lose his senses.

Meanwhile, the police command has arrested two suspected kidnappers, Thoa Akorede and Alhaji Muhibudeen Akorede, who abducted him.


The victim was ordered to surrender his phone to them and the phone was programmed to reject any incoming calls except the only line that they were demanding ransom through. .

Singer R. Kelly was Thursday arrested on federal child pornography and obstruction of justice charges.



He was arrested on 13-count indictment, according to U.S. attorney’s office in Chicago. The charges are the latest in a number of legal issues for Kelly this year. .Kelly is also facing 10 counts of felony criminal sexual abuse involving four alleged victims, after being arrested by the Cook County Sheriff’s Department in March. He has pleaded not guilty to those charges. He has also dealt with a number of child support issues.

Permit me to begin by saying that my heart goes out to Mr. Timi Dakolo, a very pleasant and respectful young man, whom I first met at President Goodluck Jonathan’s home two years ago.

We interacted again two weeks ago when we spoke briefly on the phone after the news about the horrendous travails that his beautiful wife, Busola, was allegedly subjected to by Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, 19 years earlier, first broke.

Pastor Adeboye may well be right but the question is whether this is a satisfactory state of affairs and whether it is just, fair and proper. Should this be the case in any civilised society? Should it be the case in the Church?

Does this “lynch-mob mentality” not demean and destroy the very fabric of our society and the very foundations of our existence?

Does it not undermine the utility, credibility and power of the Church? Should we not outright condemn it and seek to change it rather than espouse and accept it as a given?

Must a man, or indeed a pastor, live in perpetual fear of the damning and implicative words of an “accuser of the brethren” and grave allegations that may well have no basis in rationality or truth?

Chelsea have appointed former midfielder Frank Lampard as their manager on a three-year deal.

Lampard, 41, has left Championship side Derby County to take over at a club where he spent 13 years as a player.


He succeeds Maurizio Sarri, who left Stamford Bridge in June to take charge of Italian champions Juventus.

Lampard led Derby to the Championship play-off final, where they lost to Aston Villa, in his first season as a manager.

The former England international made 648 Chelsea appearances, winning 11 major trophies with them.

He takes over with Chelsea under a transfer embargo after the club were given a two-window transfer ban by world governing body Fifa – a decision they are appealing against at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

“I am immensely proud to be returning to Chelsea as head coach,” said Lampard.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has said the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) is not its member.

Kwamkur Vondip, national director, legal and public affairs of CAN, made this known in a statement on Wednesday.

COZA has been in the news since Busola, celebrity photographer and wife of singer Timi Dakolo, accused COZA founder, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, of rape.

Vondip expressed worry over the recurrent rape allegations levelled against pastors in various churches, saying such act is against the faith.

“CAN is deeply concerned about the ongoing rape allegation saga arising from a confessional statement by a former female member of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Mrs. Bisola Dakolo, against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, the senior pastor of COZA.

Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos East, Kaoli Olusanya has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to show Nigerians clear-cut vision that will enhance development, peace, progress and unity.

The former Commissioner for Agric and Cooperatives said a leader must lead, and “that is why Mr. President must show us where we are going in the next two, three and four years”.

Olusanya, who addressed reporters at the party secretariat on ACME road, maintained that there must be equity, justice and fair-play in the actions and in-actions of President Buhari.

The ex-commissioner, who called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to maintain the momentum, stressed that the governor has three assignments at the moment. The first is speedy completion of the Lagos/Badagry Expressway and township roads that will provide accessibility to homes, ease traffic gridlock, save manpower and ensure bonding with families.



According to him, sustainable infrastructure must be put in place as well as clearing of canals and drainages during this raining season to checkmate flooding and unexpected deaths.

His words: “The number of out-of-school children will become a time bomb if the situation is not succinctly addressed. We have over 10 million out-of-school children in the country and I am sure Lagos, with its large population, could have up to 1 million. These are the root causes of crime and insurgency. We need to revive peoples hope because joblessness and poor living conditions can aggravate tension against the government.”

A serving lawmaker, Senator Elisha Abbo, has attracted criticisms from a large section of Nigerians after being caught on video slapping a nursing mother repeatedly at a intimacy gadget shop in Abuja.


Abbo, who defeated the respected Senator Binta Garba, to emerge as the winner of the Adamawa North senatorial district, was seen assaulting the woman in a video

The assault, which reportedly occurred on May 11, 2019, was done in the presence of an armed policeman who rather than assist the victim, arrested her.

Abbo, who is the youngest senator in the country, had entered the shop around 6pm on May 11, a Saturday. The senator walked in with three young women to purchase adult toys.

But shortly after they began shopping for the toys, one of the three girls brought in by Mr Abbo started throwing up. She vomited multiple times, prompting the shop owner to remark that the woman should have vomited outside and not inside her shop, especially since she was not a child.

Abbo, who was said to be agitated by the sudden illness of one of his girls, was said to have accused the shop owner of poisoning the store’s air conditioner.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern states and Abuja has condemned statements by the Nigerian embassy in Washington D.C, United State of America, accusing Mrs. Rebecca Sharibu, mother of Leah Sharibu and three others of making “false” claims against the federal government.


The embassy, according reports, had on June 30, 2019, protested against a recent event in the US capital by Heritage Foundation, where some victims of terrorism and farmers/herders conflict in northern Nigeria allegedly made “false” claims against the federal government.

The Heritage Foundation had on June 11, 2019, invited Sharibu, Alheri Bawa Magaji and Napoleon Adamu, victims of violence and insecurity to Washington to share their experiences.

Nigerian lawyers tell Pastor Fatoyinbo to surrender himself for investigation
The Coalition of Public Interests Lawyers and Advocates (COPA) on Monday urged the embattled founder of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, to do the needful by surrendering himself for investigation; having stepped down as senior pastor of the church.

DAILYPOST reported that Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo on Monday morning stepped down as the senior pastor of COZA, over alleged rape allegations by Timi Dakolo’s wife, Busola.

Mr. Pelumi Olajengbesi, the Convener of COPA in a statement on Monday, commended Fatoyinbo for stepping down as senior pastor in COZA, but asked him to take a step further by reporting to the police for investigation.

“We at COPA are of the mind that while the above is a good way to start that, Mr. Biodun Fatoyinbo must take a step further in the interest of addressing and assuaging public interest by reporting to the Nigeria Police Force voluntary, a truly neutral arbiter in this instance, to provide answers to public queries on the matter.

“This is in view of making sure that the results of the investigations from both the church committee and the Police, being independent sources, would satisfactorily put to rest all sundry issues generated by the intense rape allegations hanging over him.



“A man of clear conscience fears nothing and we hope that it would never come to the point where Mr. Biodun Fatoyinbo is compelled beyond personal alacrity to do the needful and submit self to the Police for questioning.

“Needless to say that his status as a popular man of God and the issue of betrayal of fiduciary trust, infidelity and the crime of rape makes it imperative that no room is left for doubt to exist on his innocence of the claims against him, he said in the statement.

As part of its financial inclusion drive, the CBN said it was targeting 100 million BVNs in the next five years.

According to the CBN, “In order to ease the constraint poor identification has on the availability of credit to prospective banking customers, the CBN will support an aggressive enrolment of prospective banking customers in the informal sector onto the BVN system.

“The current enrolment of 38 million unique banking customers will be expanded to 100 million over the next five years.

Following the rape allegation leveled against the founder of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, by a popular musician, Timi Dakolo’s wife, Mrs. Busola Dakolo, human rights groups and other Nigerians yesterday took protest to the church headquarters in Abuja and its worship centre in Lagos to call for the resignation of the clergy man, pending the determination of the case by a competent court.


However, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command said it was yet to receive any formal complaint against Fatoyinbo.

But as early as 7a.m. yesterday, protesters had already arrived at the church premises in Abuja carrying several placards with different inscriptions to send in their messages and demands to the public.

It was gathered that before their arrival, heavy security presence including that of men from the Department of State Security Services (DSS) and men from the Nigerian Police Force, had been stationed at the front of the church premises as the church’s protocol officers in a chained hands formed a barricade around the Abuja church, to prevent the protestants from gaining entrance into the church premises.

In Lagos, only few security operatives were available as the protesters took turns to scream for the removal of Fatoyinbo through public address system.

A 34-year-old man, Iwueze Kingsley, has been arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team in Lagos for stealing a car and other valuables belonging to an Uber driver.The suspect had lured his unsuspecting victim named Clifford Echereode to a bar in the #FESTAC area of Lagos on the night of April 22, 2019 under the pretence of needing his taxi service. .

According to the IRT led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, Kingsley approached Echereode to pick up his brother, who he claimed was returning to Nigeria from Ghana that night.But moments after engaging his service, the suspect, pretending to be nice, persuaded the victim to follow him to the said bar to take some drinks and barbecued meat, popularly known as suya, while they waited for a few more minutes before heading to the airport. .

Osun: Politicians dropping Buhari’s name to influence Supreme Court judgment, group alleges


Ahead of the judgment of the Supreme Court on the Osun State governorship tussle scheduled to be delivered next Friday (July 5), an Abuja-based civil society group, the Guardian of Democracy and Development Initiative, has alleged that some persons particularly top politicians have been dropping President Muhammadu Buhari’s name in their bid to influence the apex court’s verdict.

The group through some of its members led by its Executive Director, Charles Ibang, said this at a press conference in Abuja late on Thursday.

Ibang said such move by “some anti-democratic forces who are bent on dragging the name of President Muhammadu Buhari in the mud” constituted “a threat to our nascent democracy”.

He said, “We are here assembled to alert Nigerians that some politicians are scheming to truncate the wheel of justice at the Supreme Court over the ongoing litigation on Osun governorship.

“As a civil society group with deep interest in the protection and deepening of our democratic culture, we view with trepidation ongoing moves to harass and intimidate the judiciary on Osun government judgment.

Sunday Anani, the Togolese cook who murdered of the CEO of Credit Switch Ltd, Ope Bademosi, was, on Tuesday, sentenced to life imprisonment by a Lagos State high court in Igbosere

Mr Anani had only been in the employ of the deceased for three days, when he committed the crime on October 31, 2018, at the Ikoyi residence of the deceased.



The judge, Mobolanle Okikiolu-Ighile, sentenced the accused after he changed his initial not guilty plea to a guilty plea.

He had entered into plea bargain with the prosecution to avoid being charged with an offence that carried the death sentence

Operatives of the EFCC, on Thursday, June 20, 2019, made a harvest of eleven suspected internet fraudsters, popularly known as ‘Yahoo Boys’ in an apartment on Parliamentary Extension, Akai Efa, Calabar, Cross River State. .

The all male suspects are: Endurance Ahunwan (28), Nohuwan Frank (26), Dominic Chidiebere (28), Idehe Efosa (17), Patrick Edos (27), Samuel Ukiwe (21) and Michael Edward 25.

Others are: Destiny Efe (17), Hope Yusuf (19), Harrison Esi (17) and Igbinigun Osamudia (17).

Esi was found hiding in the roof of the apartment along with some of their tools of operation. According to him, their leader, Ahunwan instructed him to conceal himself and the gadgets in the roof in order to prevent his arrest and confiscation of the tools. .

Relatives of a 74-year-old man, Usman Zubair, said to have attacked a doctor and nurses on duty over the death of the septuagenarian at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, have been arrested by the police,


The state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Olugbenga Fadeyi, who confirmed this situation said that the assault on the medical personnel of the hospital occurred on the evening of Tuesday, June 18.

According to him, the Oyo State Police Command, on Thursday, June 20, arrested six persons involved in the attack of a doctor and nurses at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

Fadeyi said: “The relatives of one Usman Zubair, a 74-year-old man, who was receiving treatment in the hospital, went wild and attacked the medical personnel when they learnt of his death.
