Phones / Starcomms Shines Again At Nigeria Telecoms Award by samsonlek(m): 4:59pm On Aug 16, 2011
Starcomms Plc., Nigeria’s leading CDMA telecommunication network has been awarded the CDMA network of the year in the seventh edition of the Nigerian Telecom Awards, which took place in Lagos at the weekend.

Also, Chief Maan Lababidi, OON, the founder of Starcomms was presented with a Gold Award in the personality category.

Presenting the award to the Chief Executive Officer of Starcomms, Mr. Logan Pather, the former minister of information, Chief Alex Akinyele who is the vice chairman of the board of trustees of the Nigerian telecom Award said that the award which was the last to be presented at the event crowned all the awards because of the excellence which the company stands for.

Akinyele said this year’s awards ceremony was organized to recognize and reward personalities and companies in the Nigerian telecommunications industry. These companies and individuals have, who through thick and thin, ensured the rapid development of the telecommunications industry in the last ten since the revolution began in Nigeria.

Responding to the award presentation, the Starcomms CEO thanked the board of trustees of the award, led by veteran broadcaster and diplomat, Ambassador Olusegun Olusola for recognizing the efforts of Starcomms in bringing innovative and excellent services to its customers.

“This is also a challenge for us to maintain the global standards of our offering to the public as a CDMA network, which has kept us going long before the advent of other technologies in the Nigerian market till now. The recognition given to us through this award can only ginger us to continue to make more value and innovation available to our customers. And we are committed to surpassing our own standards in serving them,” Pather said.

As he received his own award presented by the Hon. Minister of Communications Technology, Mrs. Omobola Johnson, the founder of Starcomms, and Baba Oja of Lagos, Chief Lababidi put the said that the telecommunication revolution started long before the arrival of foreign GSM companies in Nigeria.

The chief said the revolution started since 1998, when Nigerian companies invested Nigerian money to provide alternative telephone access to the Nigerian people when government owned network was the only option available.

The organizers of the awards, Logica communications Limited said the Gold Award was given to Chief Lababidi because of his contributions and accomplishment in the telecom sector.

According to them, “Maan Lababidi is one of the earliest investors in Nigeria to invest in telecom. His interest in telecommunication opened the floodgate of interests in the sector today. He is the founder of the first successfully managed and most formidable CDMA operator in Nigeria.”

The company applauded Lababidi for his foresight and vision.

In a move to reward loyal consumers, create fun and excitement around its brand, Promasidor Nigeria Limited on Thursday in Lagos launched a consumer promotion tagged "Win Cash with Loya".

Managing Director, Promasidor Nigeria Ltd, Chief Keith Richards said the launching was another way to demonstrate promasidor`s prowess as an innovative company.

"We consider this promotion as an innovative way of rewarding our loyal consumers." he said.

He disclosed that the company had built relationships with its teeming consumers who had trust in all its brands, saying "whenever they buy any of the company’s brands they are sure of getting value for their money."

He discribed Loyal as a premium product that has extra thing in it such as calcium, saying the promotion would encourage the consumers to understand the fantastic taste of the brand, and that their brands were segmented and marketed in different channels and pack sizes that were relevant to each of the brand target market.

The General Manager Marketing, Kachi Onubogu explained that Yola milk is one of the leading brands of Promasidor with high quality and innovative product offerings that excite and exceed consumers’ expectations.

He said the milk was re-launched in September 2010 to re-position the brand and further strengthen its equity in the premium segment of the Nigerian dairy market, pointing out that to participate in the promo, a consumer would buy a 400g pack sizes (can or sachets) of Loya milk.

He stressed that prizes can be won either through a Raffle Draw or by Instant Cash win, stressing that for Raffle, all 400g promotional packs will contain a coupon or sticker with unique non- sequential alphanumeric code.

Speaking at the event, the Director General of Consumer Protection Council (CPC) Lagos, Mrs. Ify Umenyi who was represented by Mrs. Ngozika Obidike, Head of Consumers Protection Council in the state said that the promo was registered and approved by the council, noting that promasidor had declared its intention to make the promotion fair, decent and treat consumers with respect.

The Director General explained that in case any human error is observed in the course of the promo by the consumers, they should not hesitate to report such to the council, promising that CPC will monitor the promotion.
Business / Promasidor’s Boss Lists Keys For Successful CSR by samsonlek(m): 1:02pm On Aug 12, 2011
Mr. Keith Richards, managing director and chief executive of Promasidor Nigeria Limited has listed five key areas for a successful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

Richards who made a presentation entitled Giving Back to Society: Issues & Challenges at the Annual Giving Back Conference organised by Business Day Newspaper in Lagos recently listed the key areas as consistency, sustainability, credibility, relevance and affordability.

He told the distinguished audience of corporate executives and senior officials of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that for a corporate organization to achieve a successful CSR programme, it was imperative that it built a consistent approach to it and stick to it.

The corporate organization should ensure that its programmes could be relied upon by its partners as well as the need to create programmes that have long duration, Richards said, adding that the personal credibility of the chief executive officer, board, senior managers, programme champions and product quality of such a company were also important.

He said there was also the need to review the programmes to see if they were relevant to the stakeholders and affordable by the company because such programmes needed to be developed in line with budget availability, not just now but in the future.

Richards listed some of Promasidor’s core CSR programmes to include the Cowbell National Secondary Schools Mathematics Competition (NASSMAC), Rewards for Excellence in Primary Schools, Partnership with Africa Leadership and Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG), Orile-Iganmu Community and Mother & Child Support among others.

He reiterated the intention of the company to sponsor two most successful students in its just concluded National Secondary Schools Mathematics Competition to the 2012 Pan African Mathematics Olympiad.

The chief executive said the company would work with the National Mathematics Centre, Abuja to realize the plan.

The Cowbell National Secondary Schools Competition (NASSMAC) started in 1998 in Lagos . By 1999, the scope was expanded to other states, Lagos , Anambra, Kaduna and Plateau while Oyo and Imo were added in 2000.

In 2001, NASSMAC became a national competition covering the 36 States of the Federation including Abuja .

Promasidor was incorporated in Nigeria in 1993 to manufacture, package, market and   distribute fast moving consumer products. Since inception, it has been offering quality and affordable products to its consumers.

It revolutionized the dairy industry with the introduction of sachet packaging of its Cowbell milk, a development which has become the norm in the industry presently. Its products range includes Cowbell milk, Cowbell chocolate, Cowbell flavoured milk drink, Loya full cream milk, Miksi, Onga food seasoning, Top Tea and Amila instant fruit flavoured powdered drink.

The company has a factory in Lagos and depots all over the country from where its products are packaged and distributed to consumers nationwide. The company has recorded remarkable growth over the years and it presently employs more than 1,000 Nigerians in various aspects of its operations.

Technology Market / Starcomms Launches ‘i Don Move’ For Seamlesstrans-network Migration by samsonlek(m): 11:15am On Aug 11, 2011
Starcomms Plc has introduced a value added service that will help its new customers who are migrating from other networks to notify their old contacts automatically about their new Starcomms number.

Tagged ‘I don move’ the service enables Starcomms customers to receive calls made to their old numbers by their contacts with their Starcomms phones while at the same time sending information to the callers that the customer now has a new number. This will ensure that the customer does not lose valuable contacts or miss important calls as a result of their migration to the Starcomms network.

To use ‘I don move’ the customer has to maintain the old network alongside their Starcomms phones for a limited period of time after migration, during which all calls made to their old number are handled by Starcomms.

Starcomms CEO, Logan Pather, commenting on the new service said: “Lately we have been inundated with enquiries by our new customers on their concern about their old contacts who may not yet know that they have new Starcomms numbers,” he said.

“We therefore devised a method for them that will eliminate the stress of manually notifying them of change of number. We believe this will go a long way in making their experience with Starcomms unique and satisfactory. Customer service is one of the hallmarks of our business”

To use this service, the new Starcomms customer will need to register by sending SMS: “reg+space+old number” (e.g. reg 080XXXXXXXX) to a short code: 31131. Once the registration is done, the customer will be informed about “I don move’ and will be instructed to do a call divert/forward to a Starcomms magic number 07028422222. The subscription for “I don move” is valid for one month at time and it is free of charge.

After the first subscription, the customer can re-subscribe for the service so that if there are still some contacts that are yet to get the notifications. Each subscriber is entitled to only one SMS in a day.

Starcomms has been at the forefront of bringing innovative services to its customers. The company has been adjudged since 2007 as the CDMA network of the year by top telecommunication industry watchers.
