Travel / Live And Study In Canada by santosdan: 9:35am On Sep 17, 2022
Hello everyone, I am a B.Sc degree holder from UNN and I wanted to further my studies abroad. Currently,i am considering applying to a school in USA, until my brother told me that he met a friend who introduced him to an agency that helps to facilitate international travels with their speciality in Canada and UK.

They agency had a lot of promises on their flyer and other processing fees that are needed to be paid. They also assured me of securing my admission in Canada and acquiring a work permit for me while schooling.

The name of the agency is Snowfox. Please, have anybody heard about them or know anything about them? Please, I will need your answers to avoid making a regrettable mistake. Help a brother with your answers please.
Sports / Manchester United Vs Manchester City Match Preview, Analysis And Predictions by santosdan: 12:49pm On Jan 06, 2021
Manchester United have gathered real momentum since being dumped out of the Champions League at the start of December. They are unbeaten in their last seven matches (W5, D2) and have climbed to second in the Premier League in that time. They need silverware to show for the progress made under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, having lost at the semi-final stage of cup competitions three times last season.

After limping along for weeks, everything clicked for Manchester City on Sunday after they turned in a season-best performance to beat Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Pep Guardiola was delighted with the display and it comes at the perfect moment ahead of Wednesday's Carabao Cup cup semi-final with rivals Manchester United, having remarkably failed to score in their last four away to the Red Devils.

Manchester united's team news
With a decent break between games and the opportunity to hand fringe players a run out in the FA Cup at the weekend, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may name a relatively unchanged side from the 2-1 win over Aston Villa last week.

Dean Henderson was put through his paces on the Old Trafford pitch after United's win over Villa, suggesting he will start the Carabao Cup semi-final against neighbourhood rivals Manchester City.

Luke Shaw and Alex Telles have traded places in the team in recent weeks but there is a chance they could both line-up on Wednesday if Solskjaer reverts to a 3-4-1-2 formation against City.

Manchester city's team news
Ederson, Gabriel Jesus, Kyle Walker, Ferran Torres ad Eric Garcia all look set to miss out because of COVID-19. Scott Carson and Cole Palmer also tested positive on the eve of the match.

Aymeric Laporte, who has dropped completely out of favour over the last month, is an injury doubt.

Despite a quick turnaround for Manchester City, Pep Guardiola is expected to stick with the bulk of the side that easily dispatched Chelsea 3-1 on Sunday. With so many missing through COVID-19, he has little choice anyway.

Guardiola has eased Sergio Aguero back into the swing of things following a long spell out injured and he looks more likely to start in the FA Cup at the weekend rather than at Old Trafford.
Riyad Mahrez, Benjamin Mendy and Fernandinho are realistic options to start against Manchester United.

Kevin De Bruyne played as a false nine against former club Chelsea but may drop back into his usual position against United, with Sterling through the middle. Phil Foden should retain his place in the side after a superb showing at the weekend.

Prediction
This competition has been won by ones of these sides the last five years, with City lifting it on four occasions including the last three in a row. Guardiola has made this competition his own since arriving at City but United are moving in the right direction to end that on Wednesday.
Man Utd 1 - 2 Manchester city is my correct score prediction.
Food / Chemical Additives And Their Effects On Foods by santosdan: 6:58pm On Nov 14, 2020
Introduction
The use of chemicals as food additives is an ancient practice, sodium chloride being the first to be used. Food additives are currently a part of our way of eating especially in the industrialized world.
According to one estimate, as many as 10,000 compounds or combinations of compounds may find thier way into foods during processing, packaging or storage. These include unintentional additions also, e.g. residues of pesticides used to treat crops, minute amount of drug fed to animals (hormones, antibiotics) and chemicals that seep out of plastics and other packaging materials.

Why chemicals are added in food
Additives are generally used for solving complex problems of storing, cleaning, handling, heating and packaging commercially prepared foods. Some additives are merely used to preserve the natural colour of the foods e.g. addition of nitrate to meat to preserve the pink colour. In brief, these additives serve one or more of the following functions listed below in the foods:
1. Preservatives
2. Buffers
3. Emulsifiers
4. Neutralising agents
5. Sequestering agents (or chelating agents)
6. Stabiliser
7. Anticaking agents
8. Flavouring and colouring agents.

In addition, some additives are used as nutritional supplements to increase the nutritive value of foods such as potassium iodide and vitamins. Before these chemicals are cleared for use, they are tested on experimental animals, one at a time

Side effects of chemical additives
Humans injest dozen of chemicals daily during the course of thier life time. No one can say the overall effect these chemicals can have on the body ; which chemicals are poisonous or carcinogenic by interacting with others; which are dissipated in the body and which are cumulative. For example, we have seen how the nitrates added to meat could transform into carcinogenic nitrosamines by reacting with amino acids in the stomach. While most of these additives have been cleared as safe by the food administrations of various countries, some continue to be controversial. Some examples are:
1. BHA (Butylated Hydroxy Anisole) and BHT (Butylated Hydroxy Toluene) are used as antioxidants
2. Carboxymethyl cellulose as a stabiliser
3. Aspartame and Sucralose as well as Saccharine as artificial sweeteners
4. Monosodium glutamate (MSG), also called Chinese salt is the best known flavour enhancer commercially used in oriental restaurants and in prepared foods. Earlier, it was used in baby foods but it is now discontinued after studies revealed that large amounts destroys the brain cells in young mice. Now MSG has been found to be responsible for the so called Chinese restaurant syndrome which produces headaches, tightness in the chest and forearms accompanied by weakness and palpitations.

Common Chemical Additives and the foods they are used for preservation
1. Acidulant are used to preserve soft drinks, fruit juices, jams, soft drink powders etc.
2. Anticaking compounds are used in producing table salts, preserving baking powder and malted milk powder to prevent moisture absorption
3. Antioxidants are used in cooking oils and fats and dehydrated foods to prevent rancidity
4. Artificial sweeteners flare added to soft drinks and low calorie foods to improve sweet taste
5. Bleaching and maturing agents for preserving flour for proper bleaching and ageing
6. Colours are added in butter, cheese soft drinks, confectionery, jellies, etc for pleasing appearance
7. Emulsifiers added in ice creams, confectionery coatings, cakes, soft drinks, etc to disperse one liquid in another
8. Flavours added in all processed foods to provide flavour for the food.
In as much as these additives may improve the taste and appearance of foods, it is worthy to note that one must be very careful in consumption of these processed foods as some of them when consumed in excess can be carcinogenic.
Food / Food spoilage by Microorganisms and thier preventive measures by santosdan: 10:42pm On Nov 13, 2020
Foods are sometimes spoiled by the action of various microorganisms. Microorganisms include moulds, yeasts and bacteria. Some microorganisms exist in both vegetative and spore forms. Spores are more resistant to destruction by heat or other agents than the vegetative form.

1. Food spoiled by Moulds: Mould growth on food with its cottony appearance makes food unfit for consumption. Moulds are most likely to develop in warm, damp and dark places between 25 to 30°C. Sunlight is an inhibitor for mould growth. Certain Moulds in mild quantity are not harmful but a few can produce mycotoxins i.e, aflatoxin specially on groundnut, wheat, etc. If these are not dried as soon as they are harvested.

2. Food spoilage by Yeast: Yeasts grow usually on food such as fruits which contain water and sugar. The typical musty smell of spoiled grapes is due to the growth of yeast. Yeast is reproduced by budding of cells. Yeasts generally grows better in acid medium in the presence of sufficient oxygen between 25°C to 30°C. Yeast converts sugar of the fruit into alcohol and carbondioxide. Honey, jams, jellies are contaminated by Yeast.

3. Food spoilage by Bacteria: Bacteria are unicellular and much smaller in size. Aerobic bacteria grows in the presence of oxygen only while anaerobic bacteria grows in the absence of oxygen. Bacteria usually spoils food which are neutral in reaction such as milk, eggs, meats and vegetables.

4.Action of enzymes: Enzymes are organic catalyst produced by living cells. They are protein in nature and can act from 0°C to 60°C. Beyond a certain stage, enzymes themselves can render the fruit unfit for human consumption. For example, ripening of banana us caused by enzymes but beyond stage of ripening they spoil the banana.
Certain worms, bugs and fruit flies may also spoil food.
Three conditions for spoilage of food by Microorganisms

Microbes works best when these conditions are met
1. Presence if moisture
2. Presence of warmth
3. Presence of oxygen(air)

Ways to prevent decomposition of foods by Microorganisms
There are four ways to keep foods persevered for a longer period of time
1. Air tight/Vacuum parking (eliminates air or oxygen
2. Drying and dehydration (Removes moisture)
3. Refrigerating or freezing (eliminates warmth)
4. Sterlizarion by blanching or boiling (kills bacteria, moulds and enzymes).
Any one if these methods will break the chain of action that is causing food delay. Combining more than one methods will further improve matters. The above technique of preserving the food belongs to the subject of "food preservation" which is a vast subject in itself.
