While thier belly is on the floor give them a knock on thier head.... In thier potration lie thier deciete

The yorubas greetings only represents one thing an act of weakness and deceitfulness

You can buy a Yoruba mans integrity with just biscuit and sweet..... But you can never buy his trust they are slaves with two masters they will betray you if need be

Fear people who greets while their lay flat

I'm not arguing about FDI, everyone knows that Ogun is benefiting from its close proximity to Lagos. I'm talking about your claims of Ogun being the state with the second highest human development index, or don't you know the difference?

And Anambra is benefiting from being the entry point into Eastern Nigeria for basically every good and service.
And Kaduna s benefiting from being gateway from Abuja into the North
And 6 SS states are benefiting from being massive oil producers
And Kano is benefiting from Northern commerce
Before you know it, the whole of Nigeria will end up supposedly benefiting from something.

As for Imo there is nothing there (No industry, no commerce, no innovation no tier 1 city). Imo is a civil service state as such they have decided to focus on their schooling..... even then, there still is no tertiary educational institution of note there. Guess where majority of Imolites go for University education since they can't all attend FUTO or IMSU.. They are all here in the SW, that's right.

Yes Ogun state is No2 in HDI and it is funny that you suggest I do not know the diffference between FDI and HDI

You don't have to start your thread with cheap lies. When did Ogun state become the state with the second highest human development index in Nigeria? Where then do you put the powerhouses of human development in Nigeria i.e. Imo and Anambra states?

You guys have come again o, but the era of propaganda and lies are over and we are to endure that no one is decieved again.

Sorry, but both Imo and Anambra are not powerhouses of any kind... well, maybe Anambra on the South Eastern level.
And they are both behind oOgun in HDI

deceived or not, no one cares what you think. IPOB Bureau of statistics are the masters of lies and propaganda.... The whole of nigeria knows.

And yet the state is poising itself more and more to become the new Lagos and Abuja combined into one.
Seems like the skull mining is doing some cool wonders for them., or don't you think?

Seriously I wonder Igbos are crying profusely over this thread. I can feel their angst from here. You hardly see Yorubas in Anambra or Imo picture threads.
Oh well..... if wishes were horses, I know many Igbos that would wish the SW was their homeland while all Yorubas were deported to the SE. You and I both know.

O pari

looool can Nnewi even be considered a city? On that list only Onitsha dey try. Owerri has nice joints too to an extent but Ogun state has more joints than both combines. Check Trivago or Hotels.ng if you doubt me.

Nnewi that is like a scattered hybrid between a forest and a brown roof town. Very jaga-jaga, haphazardly settled, red mud gullies everywhere and no plan like most Igbo habitats.

Below is REAL Nnewi aerial.

The saving grace of potor-potor fauna like yourself is that There aren't much Yorubas or any other tribe in those parts of SE to come and BUST the lies you people keep telling here everyday. If SE was such a paradise that you people paint, it should be the region drawing the most number of Nigerians from all over, not the other way around. People naturally follow money and opportunities.

Ogun state is unique among the states in the federal republic of Nigeria. It has the second highest HDI (Human development Index) in Nigeria after Lagos and unlike its contemporaries across the country, it is replete with several large and mostly developed cities spread across the state apart from the capital city. These include urban centres such as Shagamu, Ota, ilaro, Ijebu ode, Agbara among others. The state has a large population and is host to many industries and business ventures. It is basically Nigeria's emerging Trade and Industry hub after Lagos. That apart, it has some of Nigeria's best secondary and tertiary educational institutions.

This thread brings you images from the state capital Abeokuta that you most likely have not come across before in a way you have never seen it presented before.
Enjoy!

A deity which you have absolutely no name for in your native tongue was certainly imposed on you by others -- 100%.

"Olokun" was introduced to the Edo people by your closest Yoruba neighbours -- The Itsekiris.

"Olokun" [from the Yoruba words "Olu-Okun" -- "Lord of the Sea"] is a Yoruba deity with a Yoruba name.

We also alternatively call it by the name: "Umale-Okun", or "Imale-Okun", or Umole-Okun, or "Imole-Okun"; meaning "Spirit of the Sea".

All these are pure Yoruba words. Stop attaching screenshots from Edo blogs and fraudulently passing them off as academic materials.

The last PDP chairmanship election that produced Uche Secondus has cemented the fact that there's nothing like micro zoning, Zoning is between the North and the South (as simple as ABC), Wike and the other PDP stalwarts stated it clearly to the chagrin of the SW and to the cheers of you children of hate who jubilate when policies favours you but try to emotionally blackmail others when it's against you.

It's no mistake that the two northern presidents (Yaradua and Buhari) in this new political dispensation are not only from the same NW region but from the same state Katsina with none of the other regions made up hundreds of tribes crying and wailing like our usual bush babies.

The Mumu Op will support Kanu today, call Nigeria Zoo/shithole and all derogatory name in the book, abuse Hausa-Fulani and Muslims but still want to become the president of the Zoo. We know all your Biafra charade is for political patronage.

lol... there is an Ijebu in Owo Ondo state.. There is an Ijebujesha in Osun state. There are Owus scattered across Osun, Ogun, Oyo and Kwara. There are local Obas known as Owas in Osun, Ondo and Ekiti. There are Ogboni groups all over Yorubaland even up to Akutupa and Agbaja in Kogi near the Niger river. There is an Ife Odan, Ife Olukotun in Kogi, and another one Ife tedo close to Oke -Igbo in Ondo state. There is no group that does not know who or what Ogun (The god) is. At the centre of every Yoruba town is the Oba's market.
There is no Yoruba group that does not know what is an "Ebora" from Jebba in Kwara down to the Forcados Delta. There is an Ifon in Ondo (Omiima), One in Osun (Orolu) and yet another in Ogun.

Any difference that exists between any two Yoruba groups is not up to 1/10th of the commonalities. That is why it is VERY VERY hard for any Yoruba group to wake up tomorrow and for any reason say they are not Omoluabi.

Another annoying thing that is daily paraded here is there was nothing like "Yoruba" until year 2020. Who actually cares to know that? That was was never a term of name that bring all Yoruba together until recently doesn't mean the different people inhabiting the present day Yoruba land were oblivious of one another.

Many things that transcend name bond the Oyos, egbas, ondos, Ekiti, Ijeshas, Owus etc. They related as brothers with common history, ancestor, culture, social, religious and political values.

I swearrugad that seems to be another cheap "go to" argument that they use these days when all other options are exhausted.
They be like "But "What is Yoruba? there was no Yoruba in 19--Gbirigidim". grin as if all the different clans of Yorubaland sprung from the earth like efo gbure vegetable.

All these people have always existed and were aware of one another. They share mythology, customs, societal structure, religion and spirituality, dialects within a spectrum, myth of origin, dynastic interlinking marriages, wars and tribulations E.tc together. The small Yoruba faction in Delta North which came from the eastern flank of yorubaland are known as Olukumi. Not so shockingly Yorubas in diaspora which mostly descend from people who were from the Western flanks of Yorubaland are also known as Lucumis in the Americas. shocked ... You are free to swear as you like since it seems that is the sign of sophistication you guys hype yourselves about.

When I see something stoopied, I simply call it out without mincing words.

But I will explain about Oba title. Until 1897, body traditional ruler within Benin Empire sphere of influence would have been able to use the title Oba. Not Eleko of Lagos until 1850s when the British colonised Lagos, not Olu of Warri, not even Ewi of Ado-Ekiti or such.

See Benin sacking of Akure and beheading if Ewi Arakale of Ado in 1818 and why.

Yorubas are the ones who call the Oba of Lagos Eleko, just like they call other Yoruba Obas in other domains different other appellations. That doesn't mean they all weren't one before. Till today, Oba of Lagos is still called Eleko.... influence of British or not, you can't ask people not to speak their native language.

In Edoid language areas they would use titles derived from Benin words Ogie (chief), Enogie (duke). In Esanland what are now kings remain Onojie, in Delta it's Ovie, Orodje etc. Of course most have now been elevated to king status.

Ogie is not Chief.. otherwise you would have to explain why Ogiuwu means King/Lord of Death in Benin language.

Oba has is just a shortened version in Benin. Just one of the king's title as in OMO n'OBA n'EDO UKU AKPOLOKPOLO.

In many royal traditions a prince or princes is simply called child. Such as in Spain. A prince is infante. A princess is Infanta.

Well, Oba is not a short of anything in Yoruba,. Oba is simply Oba. A prince is simply Omoba and if it the eldest boy the Omoba Aremo or Arole Oba.

Omo n'Oba n'Edo means he or a child that shines for Benin. So that child or Omo as part of title is known elsewhere.
Historically Eweka l was pretty much a child when he became de facto Oba. He was called the child that shines for Benin.

I don't understand Benin language very well... but I like this formulation, keep it up. grin so if "Ba" means shinning in Benin, then they had better let us know that it does not exactly mean king in the real sense.

Although Ogisos were Simply use Oba to mean shining as in Obagodo. No Omo added then.
The first semi-mythical Ogiso of beniin is Ogiso Igodo. And that was what it was always popularly known by. If it at some point later started becoming/became "Ogiso Obagodo" that would be as a result of later influence. And is even a tautology as Ogie-iso already means King.

RedboneSmith:
A little question, please.

If Oba is the generic Yoruba word for King, what about Olu? It is just a mere synonym, or are there differences between Olu and Oba?

Or is the difference one of dialect, where Oba is prevalent in one part of Yorubaland and Olu is prevalent in another?

Olu is like a Lord of a province. which can also mean a King or not.

Olu of Ibadan is Olubadan
Oluwa - Lord most high
Olu of Ilaro is the lord of Ilaro.
Olu of Warri (ogiame) is the lord of Warri
Olu of Otta is the Olotta.
Olu of Ikare is the Olukare

It is not a dialectal difference per say as it exists in all Yoruba dialects. it is just semantics.
It is like saying "King Edward who is the Lord of France, Monarch of the Gauls and Sovereign of all lands there in"

We are assuming it is yoruba, but why was the name adopted for generality

No assumptions. It is simply Yoruba, no arguments.

All those other words (or Appellations) you are quoting do not mean King.

Kabiyesi does not mean King. It means - "Must not be questioned"
Ooni which is short for "Owoni and derived from an even older Yoruba term "Oghonne" does not mean King.
Alaafin does not mean King.
These are all just regional identifiers for various Obas.

What is King in Yoruba language is "Oba". The prmordial Yoruba Orisha "Obatala" means the "King of purity". Oba meaning king, and Ala meaning purity. There is also Obaluaye, Obalufon etc. All meaning King of different things/entities/concepts.

[s]Those tribes you mentioned were not inferior, they were part of Edo the Benin Empire.

Argue with your ancestors [/s]

Stop fooling yourself. They were all inferior to Binis because at the apex of the Benin kingdom was the Benin royal court and chieftain followed by the Benin people. That is why Benin did not allow any other traditional ruler in that area to bear OBA as a title. Something they themselves got from the Yorubas. That is why they would use urhobos as human sacrifice and why they would sell Afemais into slavery.

The entire Benin court culture was imported from Yorubaland. grin Oba as a word for the paramount ruler DOES NOT exist in any Edoid language but Benin. What you will see is Ojie, Ogie, Ovie Etc... and even in Benin there are still two words Oba and Ogie.
A Benin troupe still performed 'Ijesu N'Ogie' or 'Jesus is King' at my company's december gala. That is the default word for king in the Benin language EXCEPT when they are specifically referring to the palace court of the Omonoba which then they use 'Oba'.
