TallnSexyBabe: I don’t know whether this thread is dead or closed. I really want to study abroad (first choice USA, second Canada and third The UK) these are my preference and because I don’t want to go through the stress of learning a new language in other countries before start of studies (I'm very bad with languages and i just love those countries)
I’m currently a masters degree student in a prestigious university in Nigeria for 5 years now (the worst thing that has ever happened to me) studying political science with specialization in political economy. I have a bsc in international studies with a second class lower. I’m about to do my external defense and also kickstart my studying abroad plans. I’ve been looking at scholarship options (haven’t made deep research yet sha)
Please can anyone help me out or advise on what schools or scholarships i can apply to and also tips. Thanks

Bintasukai: Hello house, compliments of the season. I studied geography in my bsc. I would like to switch to a sales, marketing or business course for my masters. Because I graduated with a thirdclass, I am curious whether my 5 years work experience can substitute for a pgd program and I can be accepted directly without having to do pgd? Is this how it works please? Thanks in advance.
Just get at it and the earlier the better.
Both is 7 semesters, so plan to be in school for 4 years.
I did same and this new semester will be my last to obtain my Msc Business Administration.

Please I want to ask if it's advisable for a thirdclass graduate here to start all over again in Canada or apply for masters in Canada if that's possible. And also if it isn't advisable to apply for masters what's the best option to study afresh for bsc between business administration and public administration

I need help and answers too. Am 38yrs with a wife and kid. I have a bsc on Library and Info Sci, 3rd class honors, and I need information on what to do. I want to apply for masters or PhD anyone that is possible for me to apply. Am a business man. Please I need advise on what to do. And also I want to know if there's any other possible way to migrate to New Zealand. I can foot my bills.
Please I NEED HELP!!!
Usually with a thirdclass degree. You'd need to do a postgraduate diploma before masters. And if possible PhD.
Adaorababy: I can relate to this dehumanizing treatment. The dichotomy does not end in when applying for jobs. Even when you're working in that company. You can't go beyond a step on the ladder as an HND graduate. Many times, HND holders are used as contract staff while their bsc counterparts are permanent staff. Very dehumanizing. However, in all fairness, it's easier to get a job as an HND holder than as a bsc holder because they are subjected to meagre pay and most Nigerian firms follow the use and dump approach.
I started to notice this disparity during NYSC whilst commencing the orientation registration process. I heard something like this. Graduates from Federal universities, form first line., Foreign universities, second line Private university, third line, state university, fourth line, Federal and State polytechnics, be on the 5th line and colleges the 6th line. That profiling was all shades of wrong on every side. As I was waiting for my category to be called, I remember how my self esteem dropped drastically. Seeing most of the polished in first, second, third and fourth lines and I had to just be on the fifth line. Why The annoying thing is that many people in the 5th and 6th lines looked one kind. Majority of them had natural low self esteem, could not communicate properly, and looked very dull. I felt bad that a bright HND holder like me that graduated with distinction in Banking & Finance could be ridiculed this way. Because of this, throughout my three weeks in camp, I refused to participate in camp activities. Although, it was not difficult to get a job in the financial sector, in fact, I was employed within 4months of completing the NYSC one year program but I could not also watch people that were still in secondary school while I already joined the bank, graduate from the University and become my boss. They had promotions, better career path, were giving cars while my salary remained same for 9years as a contract staff. This was what led to me quitting working in the bank despite my long years of working in the bank and having a PGD and masters and performing excellently well in my designated functions. I was angry that even though, the dichotomy between HND and bsc prevented me from being converted, why wasn't I converted despite furthering and having a masters degree?
School is scam!!! Nigeria is scam!!!
We keep hearing the law makers say they've abolished the dichotomy between University graduates and Polytechnic graduates, yet employers are doing as they please. Why not stop Polytechnic if it's no longer revelant in today's world rather than subjecting innocent people to inferiority complex? No one cares how intelligent you are as a Polytechnic graduate, you won't even have the opportunity to prove yourself. Worst of all, you will see something like "thirdclass/HND. How do these belong in the same level?
madamGift: *Visa Alert* It’s been a long and bumpy journey but God has been good to me. Applied for a visiting visa and got denied in October 2021 for lack of evidence of sources of funds and travel history. Started the student visa process immediately with hopes of japa-ing in January. I’m a thirdclass holder and didn’t want premasters because of the funds involved so I started applying to different schools, Coventry was the first to give me admission but the fees was just too high. Oxford Brooke’s followed with Birmingham city uni and I chose Oxford Brooke’s because it was direct masters for management in health and social care with 13,900 tuition fees. Paid the tuition deposit and then they refused me cas because I declared my previous visa refusal to their Isat, they said they were afraid I will get another refusal. I was so devastated cos at the them they did this, I had already missed Coventry’s deadline(Dec 18th). I already had my tb test result and had to start all over applying to schools and looking for Jan start. I eventually got University of west London and sunderland the same time. Sunderland also refused me cas because of my previous visa refusal. I had to go UWL even with the 10k deposit required. Did their precas interview and passed but they too denied me cas because of my previous visa refusal! At this point I didn’t know what to do again, time was going, pof was ready and only cas remained. I now sent them a very lengthy mail explaining myself and situation that moved them and they offered me a deferment instead to June as I wasn’t going to be able to make January start when they responded. They gave me a new offer and issued my cas on the 9th of April. Biometrics was on the 11th of April 1st paid mail 11th of may, no decision made Got slammed with NSF mail requesting nothing on the 13th of May Second paid mail 17th of May no decision third paid mail 24th of may, decision made Application transferred to VAC on the 26th of May Collection mail same 26th Picked up today Tls-VI Documents submitted: cas, pof, waec certificate, passport data page and bsc certificate(self service). 5years study gap. Congratulations but did you respond to the empty NSF received?
It was indeed a long journey, but your determination is remarkable.
Congratulations on your visa!!!

Congratulations, at what stage did UWL requested for your POF? Before or after the admission was given?
Were you referred to an agent because I was and they have given me a deadline of July 5th to get back to them.
I have an HND but i applied for a MSc Information Technology from RGU, but was advised to go through their premasters programme at ICRGU for 10 weeks, afterwards if i pass that, they'll automatically enroll me for the master programme.
I applied for the premasters yesterday and got a conditional offer today.
I don't know whether to accept yet because the fees for the premasters alone is 7500.
But what do you guy think about this pathway.
n.b Visa will cover from the start of premasters to the end of the masters.
Do you have valid work experience in IT, if yes, then try another school. That pre-masters is useless and has no value.
Schools like Ulster university Birmingham, University of Southwales , Roehampton University and University of Sunderland will give you admission with HND or bscthirdclass if you have valid work experience.

I think you need to capitalize on your IT. Get a diploma in IT in Nigeria, try very much to ace it - I will advise you have a distinction.
Then apply for computer science masters in the States. I have seen someone with your profile getting admitted and he's running his program currently. Be ready to put in the work and have an application that stands out.
Thank you @Walspring. The thing is my first degree was actually very woeful. It was a thirdclass with a very low CGPA. So that's what I'm trying to capitalize on to justify my reason for a second bsc. Besides I now work in a government organization, in the ICT department in which I came in with my O'levels, but I need a degree now ,a relevant one for a promotion. My first degree was in chemistry but now I'm going for computer information systems. P.S: I'm 27 years. What do you think?
In my opinion you might get admitted to masters via pathway or get direct if you do very well in GRE and TOEFL and write a good SOP etc. Who knows you might also be considered for funding.

I now sent them a very lengthy mail explaining myself and situation that moved them and they offered me a deferment instead to June as I wasn’t going to be able to make January start when they responded. They gave me a new offer and issued my cas on the 9th of April. madamGift: *Visa Alert* It’s been a long and bumpy journey but God has been good to me.
