Sports / Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread - D’Tigress At The 2024 Olympics by carbonado(m): 11:46pm On Jul 18
MYMINDER:

Someone not going for a tournament doesn't mean anything got fumbled. People make decisions/demands. Being invited doesn't mean you will accept. I (on paper) don't see anything that implies the last team that wasn't competitive in the 3 Olympic games is better than this one. Chidera Odom that quit the team last year (still active in basketball) will be missed.

Michaela hasn't played a minute over the past 5 games approximately for Chicago Sky. She is out of favor and has little offensive efficiency; though very energetic on the floor.
.......If you do not see that the last olympics squad is stronger that what we have, then you do not follow the team or there is more at play, hence you trying to down play the former squad, a team that took France down a year after last olympics, note, we were in the worst possible group for the olympics, go back and check our group, and check where the teams in our group finished, 1st,2nd and 3rd respectively. I leave you to go do your own finding. As regards Micheala not having a single minute in the last 5 games, means only one thing you do not know what you are talking about plain and simple... there re no 2 ways about it, you know not what you talk about...btw i watch the chicago sky games, i follow the team, go and do your own research and come back to your post,Also, there are high chances Micheala would be moved to starting position after the break, and there is a reason for that.... as regards Chidom, yes she will be missed, the funny thing is Chidom was not even the focal point of the previous squad.....Even the blind knows that this squad is weaker. "MIcheala out of favour and have little offensive efficiency".... grin grin grin grin grin grin...

Politics / Re: General T.Y Danjuma Speaks On the counter coup Of July 1966. by ChukwuEmeka00(m): 1:36pm On Jul 13
confusedlady:
In this interview first published by Sunday Guardian of February 17, 2008, Lt-General T.Y. Danjuma, who led the troops that killed then Head of State, General Aguiyi Ironsi, who was visiting Ibadan, and his host, speaks on the events of that day.

You were quoted as saying that your memoirs would be one grenade of a book, why?

You know; there are so many versions of some the critical events that took place over the years in which I was involved. Some of the versions are sanitized; some of them are slightly inaccurate, which I will endeavour to correct. And in correcting them, there will be a few explosions. You know what a grenade is- it explodes.

Unfortunately, for me, each time I pick up my notes and try to write, I have to relive some of those very tense periods and I am so worked up. So, what I have decided to do is oral history- tell the story to a writer who’ll record, transcribe and so on and the book will bear his name and mine.

Will you, in the book correct, for example, the many stories around the coup in Ibadan in 1966 and your alleged role in the killing of Aguiyi-Ironsi and Adekunle Fajuyi?

The interesting thing about the Ibadan coup where Ironsi was arrested is that the full story is already in print. If you take the book written on me by Lindsay Barrett, the account given there with General (Yakubu ) Gowon’s biography written by Professor Isawa Eliaugu – if you read that part of the book, the account thereof what happened – if you put them together, a lot of the grey areas will be clear.

Well, you still have to clear some speculations here concerning your role. It is said that you broke Ironsi’s famous swagger stick, which was thought to be his magic wand. Did you? Did your people drag Ironsi on the road? Did you take him to Iwo road and shoot him?

No, it is not true. What happened was that after we arrested him, I lost control. Remember that I was a complete stranger. I came from Lagos with Ironsi as a staff in the Army Headquarters attached to him. I stayed in the barracks with the Adjutant (the Chief of Staff of the Commanding Officer). I stayed with him in his single officer quarters. And it was there, that at one or two o’clock in the morning – I was in bed – when he came and knocked at my door. He said, “sir, do you know what has happened.” I said, “no”. He said there was some trouble in Abeokuta. He said there was an Igbo officer holding a secret meeting with all the Igbo officers in the Officers’ Mess and our boys went and shot all of them.

Who are the “our boys?”

Northern soldiers! Remember, Igbos did the killings that took place in January (1966).

They killed non-Igbo senior Army officers. Only one Igbo officer was killed but Igbo wiped out almost all the senior non –Igbo officers. We rounded up all the people, who did the killings because we all helped Ironsi to abort the January coup. They were rounded up and put in jail, where they were being paid their full salary.
They had television, they had everything there despite being detained and nobody was talking about court marshalling them. Instead, the newspapers including the Daily Times wrote to the effect that the boys being detained were national heroes. National heroes because they killed corrupt politicians! He didn’t say anything about Army officers…” they killed corrupt politicians and replaced them with lronsi whom we would call Iron-side”. Very insulting and, in my own opinion, provocative! They were saying that those boys should be freed. Tension started building. Riots broke out in the North and it was because of the riots that broke out in the North that Ironsi started going round to talk to traditional rulers and the Army leaders. I was in his convoy.

We got to Ibadan. We had a meeting with traditional rulers and leaders of thought at the end of which everybody was asked to sing the National Anthem. We all sang the National Anthem. In the night, we had dinner and we came back. We dropped him (Ironsi) at Government House, and then went to the barracks to stay with the Adjutant. Then, at one o’clock in the night (there was) gbam, gbam, gbam on my door. I said what happened. He (Adjutant) said there was some trouble in Abeokuta. I said what was it? He said the man on duty – duty officer – saw the Commanding Officer holding meetings in the officers’ mess … all the officer that attended that meeting were Igbos. They left out non-Igbo officers. The duty officer called one or two soldiers; they cocked their guns, went there and rounded up everybody. They thought it was a joke. One of them had his staff machine gun by his side and he bent down and attempted to pick it up; they opened up on him and shot him down.

They sprayed everybody, killed everybody there and started telephoning.

They rang Ibadan. It was then that this boy woke me up. This was what happened. The press had been calling for the release of the January coup plotters. Now, our boys had created an excuse for the release. After killing these people, it is a draw – they killed Army officers in Lagos and all over Nigeria. Igbos did it. Now, Igbos had been killed in Abeokuta; that’d be the end of it. I said no. I asked the Adjutant, who was in a position to know if the Supreme Commander – at that time lronsi was known as Supreme Commander – had been told? He said, no; he didn’t think so. I said okay; he should get me some soldiers. He brought soldiers. I didn’t come to Ibadan with combat dress. I had to borrow the combat dress of an officer about my size. It was an American combat dress. This officer had just come back from the US. You know, when you travel with the Head of State you have to dress decently, wear service dress and so on. So, I borrowed fatigue, wore it. In fact, I wore it over my pyjamas and left with the Adjutant. I said, “Take me to Government House”. We got there. We asked soldiers who were on duty to ground arms. They all grounded their arms. I told the Adjutant what to do. Soldiers grounded their arms; we disarmed them and armed the soldiers that we brought.

Meanwhile, the anti-tank gun (lronsi convoy) was there, the commander was there. The commander was from the garrison in Ibadan. We knew him; we told him. He said we should use the gun to blow down the building. I said no. There’s no need; the Head of State was there; we had to arrest him. We were there and waited. Any time anybody came out from the building, we arrested him. They removed their shoes and we asked them to sit down.

Why were you doing this?

We didn’t want any violence. we wanted to arrest him (Ironsi ) alive and go and lock him up, we wanted to interrogate him, to find out the role he played in the coup (January 1966 ); his stories didn’t add up about how he escaped from Flagstaff House where he was staying at No.1, Glover (Ikoyi), and ended up in Ikeja. How it came about that Njoku, who was supposed to have handed over the command of the largest garrison in Lagos, which was then the Ikeja Garison, did not handover. Njoku was still in command and he (Ironsi) went to join him. We were going to interrogate him about all those, or at least, that was what I thought we were going to do.

So, everything I told the soldiers to do or not to do, they obeyed until, eventually, first, (Adekunle) Fajuyi (Military Governor of Western Region) came out of the building after he waited… every time they sent somebody out of the building, nobody went back. So, Fajuyi came down. As he came down the steps, I saluted-him – and said, “Sir, you are under arrest; hands”. He looked at me and called me, “Danjuma?” I said, “Sir, you are under arrest.”

He raised his hands, and came down. He said, “What do you want?” I said,

“We want to arrest you and we want to arrest the Head of State.”

He said, “And you are going out with him?” I said, “yes…”

And you were supposed to be on the Supreme Commander’s
entourage?

I was; I was there. I went to Ibadan with him. What do you mean by, “supposed to?”

Because you were now arresting…

Yes, I was arresting. He (Fajuyi) pleaded with me not to go up with armed men; that he was going to go up and call him (Ironsi) provided I guaranteed his safety. I gave him my guarantee: I said, “I guarantee your safety.”

He went there and didn’t come down. So, I decided to climb up. As I climbed up the steps, armed soldiers followed me. I had a grenade in my hand. I didn’t have any arm. As I came, lronsi was seated; Fajuyi was by his side.

I said, “Sir, you are under arrest.” And I gave him the order to stand up.

Reluctantly, Ironsi stood up. He used to carry a staff crocodile. He had it in his hand. They both came down. Fajuyi was still asking me about guaranteeing safety. I guaranteed his safety absolutely. So, we came out of the building down toward the car.

One of the soldiers said we shouldn’t allow him to carry his crocodile, that there’s juju. I said no; there’s nothing in it. He said he’d disappear if we allowed him to carry it. He started to stop and I told him to shut up. That was the time I lost control. The soldier batoned me and pushed me aside and took charge. To my greatest surprise, the Adjutant, who was, you know, these were his troops – I was a stranger,

they were obeying me because everything I did they liked; they liked what I was doing, but the moment I told them not to do something they didn’t like, they rejected – I expected the Adjutant, who was there, to intervene. He probably incited them. He said, “Yes, the soldier is right. This thing here (Ironsi’s crocodile) is his Zasa; it’s juju that will make him disappear.”

So, they took the thing from him, pushed me aside and bundled him and Fajuyi in a vehicle and drove away. It was six o’clock in the morning.

The front of the Government House was littered with people without shoes; people who had come to get ready to go. They asked every one of them to sit on the floor and they removed their shoes. They all sat, including then-Head of Service (Chief P Odumosu). I came down. They (soldiers) drove away.

There was nobody to tell these people to go; so they all sat there. It was I who said, “What are you people still doing here?”. Quietly, they realized they were free to go. They (soldiers) had driven away Fajuyi and Ironsi.

What of you?

I had to hitch a ride to go to the barracks. They left; there was no vehicle even for me to leave that place; they just drove away, taking them away. So, I had to make my way back to the barracks. If you read General Gowon’s book, it’s there. They named names of the people who actually took Ironsi away.

Now, there are a lot of lies. I read some very funny lies told by Ironsi’s ADC whose life I saved. He was an Igbo officer from Abakaliki area, tall, a good-looking chap. After the war he came back, I saw him, we shook hands and I gave him some money.

I read his account. You know we captured a lot of literature in Enugu. The Igbos named his account, including what happened in Ibadan, and what happened in the North – as pogrom. I read all the accounts there. It was there that I saw the evidence given by this man in order to … he must have felt guilty, when his boss was arrested and taken away and he went away and he went home empty-handed, without anything even though he was his ADC and nothing happened to him. He had to tell a lie to justify how he came out with his limbs intact. He gave a long story of how he escaped, what happened and so on.

That man told a lot of the lies that gained currency. Ironsi had two ADCs. One of them was Col. Sani Bello and the other was this man. I prevailed on the soldiers not to do anything to anybody. We arranged even for him to escape, and go away. He went home and started telling lies. He told a lot of lies, which I read in the account he gave in Biafra. We had an inquiry. People came to give account and so on and so forth. Unfortunately, I didn’t keep it, but I remember that the stories that gained currency were from that man.

The Adjutant created the problem?

He didn’t create the problem. The Igbos who killed our senior officers all over the place created the problem; they created the problem. They sowed the wind and reaped the problem; it wasn’t him (the Adjutant). They were reacting; they were avenging what happened in January. The July coup was a revenge coup.

What’s the name of the Adjutant?

Garba Paiko!

Was he a Major?

Major? He was a Second Lieutenant.

You were his senior?

Oh yes! But when it comes to coup-making, there’s no rank. The coup is a bandwagon of hierarchy. This was his unit. He knew the boys; I didn’t know them. But he knew me. He used me…

You’re lucky they didn’t mistake you for an Igbo.

Oh, easily! I was lighter in complexion than I am now. Many times, they took me for an Igbo.

So, he (Adjutant) didn’t create the problem?

I don’t think you people know what happened. What would you do when you went to bed and woke up and found that all the people from your area in the Army, innocent people were killed in their beds, some of them even with their wives – all done by Igbo officers? We bottled up this for six months from January to July. Then, the opportunity came for revenge.

In the Army, you are taught that when you are fired upon, you take cover and return fire. We didn’t return fire immediately. We gave Ironsi a chance to deal with the people who killed our seniors. He did not. We couldn’t understand! If politicians were corrupt, why didn’t you confine yourself to killing politicians? If it was necessary that the Army should take over, why was it that this same Army should eliminate the cream of that Army and leave us with absolutely useless people, like Ironsi who was a desk-clerk Head of State? We couldn’t understand it. But we bottled this up till July and when the opportunity came, we decided to revenge. This is what happened…

People blame you for what happened in Ibadan, but as it is, the Adjutant more or less, instigated the soldiers…

Yes, this is what I suspect. My suspicion is borne out by the fact that he did not do what I would do if I were in his position. He (Adjutant) approved of what the boys did.

60 years after, Danjuma is still peddling petty lies.

As I write this, I have "Why We Struck" by Maj. Adewale Ademoyega (who plotted the coup with Nzeogwu) in my hands.

He categorically said, "The coup was not an Igbo coup" and insinuated that northern politicians loyal to Ahmadu Bello (who was plotting a coup according to another source) concocted those lies and fed the media to garner sympathy.

There were 3 coups being planned.

Ademulegun's version was slated for January 17th. Col. Victor Banjo was the recruiter for that coup (even though he was wrongfully arrested for the Nzeogwu coup).

Ahmadu Bello's version was called a jihad because it was basically a coup that was meant to continue the Uthman Dan Fodio conquest. Murtala Mohammed was to led that conquest packaged as a coup.

Recall that the Tiv massacre was ordered by Tafawa Balewa, the then Prime Minister who was a puppet of Ahmadu Bello. The Tivs at the time were Christians. After the massacre, they miraculously became a Muslim majority.

Go figure!

Back to Ironsi, Maj. Ademoyega stated the following in Chapter 6:

"From the dawn of the coup, Lieutenant Colonel Victor Banjo had been fired by the little amount of success that we had and he was determined to stretch our success further, to bring about the realisation of our objectives.

He went all out to assist Ironsi to take over the Federal government and went further to urge the old man, not only to accede to Nzeogwu's demands, but also to bring the latter (Nzeogwu) into the federal government. This was were he disagreed with others (like Danjuma) who had Ironsi's ears and who alleged that he was with us.

As such, on a flimsy accusation that he entered the office of the Supreme Commander with a pistol in his pocket, he was arrested and sent to the same prison where some of our own group were already detained.

This happened even before Nzeogwu was arrested. Thereafter, Banjo was treated as if he was one of us."

If you understand the above quote, you'd realise that Danjuma is a snake who lies to get away with his secret agendas.

First, he claims the coup was an Igbo coup, but here's a Yoruba man who was co-plotter in the coup debunking his lies. Another Yoruba man who believed that the coup plotters were patriotic even helped the Igbo man (Ironsi) to take power and urged him to bring the coup plotters into the federal government.

Now, why did Yoruba soldiers and Igbo soldiers work together (with few northerners) to eliminate the politicians who were destroying Nigeria?

Ademoyega stated the following on page 92 (before the coup) during his chance encounter with Chief H. O. Davies, a Yoruba politician who was also a federal minister:

"Chief Davies made it clear to me that the federal government had no solution to the political crisis. He said that everybody was just waiting to see what would happen next and nobody knew what that would be."

He went on to state that:

"After extensive prodding (around 3rd January,1966), we discovered that the Balewa government had a terrible plan to bring the Army fully to operate in the West (Yoruba majority region) for the purposes of eliminating the elites (top leaders) of that region, especially the intellectuals... people like Tai Solarin of Mayflower school, Ikenne were among those marked down."

He continued, "It was also intended (by the Balewa government) that if the plan succeeded in the West, the next target would be the East (Igbo majority region). The federal government was to use loyal troops for this purpose and the 4th Battalion in Ibadan commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Largema and the 2nd Battalion in Ikeja temporarily commanded by Major Igboba, but soon to be taken over by Lieutenant Colonel Gowon, were designated for this assignment."

The Ahmadu Bello connection comes next...

"The operation (to use the army to subdue West & East) was fixed for the 3rd week of January 1966, when the Sardauna (Ahmadu Bello) would have returned from pilgrimage, and Lieutenant Colonel Gowon would have completed his take over of the Ikeja Battalion.

In preparation for this, the high echelons of the Nigerian army and the Police were being reshuffled."

Danjuma also tried to make it look like Ironsi was part of the coup and was supporting the coup plotters. Here's how Adewale narrated the D-day and how they failed to get Ironsi:

"Major Okafor came along with bad news that General Ironsi had not been found at home when he went there. He was said to have gone to another party after Maimalari's. But he had since surfaced at Dodan barracks and succeeded in raising troops against us."

This Theophilus Danjuma was used by Yakubu Gowon to fulfill the wishes of the Federal government under Balewa to take out Ironsi and spin the 1966 coup as an Igbo coup.

He's a shameless man not worthy of the honour of soldiers.

Even UK police don kill many people both black, white, male and female for resisting arrest. Their own method is to suffocate you by kneeling on your chest or breaking your neck. Not too common but it has happened in the past including to a Nigerian man, an Irish man and a Jamaican woman they were trying to deport and they turned round and said as she was biting them they had to restrain her but in the process, they suffocated her to death.

Its better to go with the police peacefully i.e Fesowole according to Portable) than to allow them injure, maim or kill you for resisting arrest albeit wrongful arrest.

I relocated to Naija some years ago and anytime i was coming from clubbing, I had to pass through Allen Junction in Ikeja and before I reached the police checkpoint, withouth being asked, I will slow down, put on my inner light, wind down my windows and smile at the officers and this seemed to disarm them and on one ocassion, one Northen police man told me that I have a Sunny smile and just waved me to go and this was circa 3am.

UK police don come beg me for house before because they arrested me on a traffic stop for not telling them my name quick enough as I wanted them to explain their accusation that I was driving rough first. Then they said if I was not prepared to tell them my name that I was nicked (arrested) and as they put their hands on my head to start the arrest I willingly followed them into their car (as I was not going to allow them to break my neck during a struggle).

That area Waltham Forest back then was notorious for racist Police just like Croydon was back then.

I then told them that my newly imported Naija wife had no way of getting home at 4am and they told me to give her cab money and I told them didn't have any money on me but when I saw that they were insistent on arresting me, I gave the now Ex wife £20 for cab and one of the police men then called me a stingy bastard (this was the weapon I would later use against them).

Eventually a good Samaritan - a Jamaican man who saw my now Ex wife at 4am crying on the road (the same woman don tear eye now and has turned our her 2 kids against me ) picked her in his car and drove round the police stations in the area until they located the station I was held at.

I was released without charge as they were just out to arrest a black man for no valid reason (in my case I had the audacity to not tell them my name until they explained to me what they meant by saying I was driving rough when I knew I had to slow down to navigate one of these double roundabouts that were so close together)

After I was released, I phoned their police station and asked to speak to the most senior officer and told him that I had evidence of what his officers said to me on the night of the arrest and he asked me what type of evidence I had and asked if it was recorded evidence and I told him that I was not willing to divulge the type of evidence I had. His officers had called me a stingy bastard when I told them I did not have any cash on me to give my then wife for a cab home but I did not record their abuse but I did not tell their boss this.

The police boss (evidenced by the kind of flat hat he wore to my 7th floor council flat) came himself and apologized to me in my flat stating that he had disciplined the officers involved.

I remember another time I went into a police station in London at around 5am to report a case of racism and on hearing the word racism, the desk attendant in the police station, a white woman rolled her eyes ans if to say not again and when I told her that if she was not up to a certain age, then I came to the UK before her, she then went away for a while as if to call a superior officer (she was not even a police officer).

After waiting for a while and no one came back to attend to me, I turned around towards the door to leave the police station and alas the sliding doors that opened automatically a few minutes earlier refused to open and the doors had apparently been locked by the police behind the scenes to prevent me leaving the police station.

I automatically sussed their plan out as they must have been watching me behind the scenes and if I showed any signs of being drunk then they would have sent out giant police men to try and subdue me and if they had broken my neck in the process, they would have blamed it on me being drunk. I immediately remembered how the London police killed Jamaican Joy Gardner and Nigerians Shiji Lapite and Olaseni Lewis during the process of arresting them and as the doors were still locked obviously to prevent me leaving the police station, I just turned towards the CCTV, raised my hands and waved them at the camera and said the following words - I am not drunk, come and open the doors and let me leave and I repeated this whilst waving and speaking at the CCTV and eventually 4 police officers came down including 2 giant police officers and they then opened the doors and let me leave but the 2 giant police officers were scrutinizing my face obviously to see if I was drunk.

The picture below is of Joy Gardner a then 40-year-old Jamaican mature student living in London who was killed by London police during an attempt to arrest her and deport her to Jamaica.

The first url below details the case of a then 34year old Nigerian named Shiji Lapite who was killed during a police arrest in London, the second one for Joy Gardner and the 3rd one for Olaseni Lewis all killed in UKpolice custody during unnecessarily violent arrests.

Nawao.
All these stories mean police is the same everywhere. One has to be careful when dealing with police officers. I learnt from early age never to resist arrest no matter the circumstance.

The beating will continue in their station. Even the female officers for desk go use mouth and slap finish the young man.

If you MUST drag with Nigerian police officers, never follow them to their office. It's better you go with them without dragging than to drag and still go with them. It's always brutal. They must find ways to inflict heavy scars on your body.

Nigeria is a lawless country, try and secure your life in any possible way.

Foreign Affairs / An Abridged Account Of The 3rd World War That Led To My Books And Publications. by lawani: 5:41pm On Jul 06
Religion, which is the belief in an only way to approach God almighty was invented by Apostle Paul. Jesus Christ himself did not know religion and he associated himself only with Jews despite the abundance of Gentiles in Judaea. It was Emperor Constantine of Rome that took an Hellenized version of what was being preached by Apostle Paul and made it into the first religion which is Christianity. Christianity is an Anglicized Greek word and Iesous is the actual son of the most high God in Greek theology. Zeus is to the Greek what Olodumare is to the Yoruba and etc. Rome adopted Christianity in the third century AD and started spreading it by force. From the first to third century when it was not a state religion, they were not more dangerous than the Jehovah witness of the 21st century Earth society. Islam accept unlike Jews, the prophethood of Jesus Christ. Islam therefore is nothing more than a sect of Christianity with a distinct and unique founder in the person of Mohammed. There is infact a more ancient Mohammed who was a Byzantine Christian and the prophet of Islam was obviously named after him. Islam like JW and many others are sects of thesame belief system. Mohammed was obviously converted by Christians since his first wife that initially employed him and stood by him for years when he did not have up to ten believers following him was a christian. Only a pandemic can be said to be somewhat more dangerous than religion. Religionists do things along the line of getting into bed with you along with your wife or husband without being invited or by force. There is a common English saying that depicts how Christianity was spread in Europe. The saying is 'The Saxon's choice 'Death or Baptism'. It went on like that from the third century AD to AD 2024. There have been concerted effort to stamp it out at different spots on Earth but with little success. Only the small and isolated state of North Korea is closed to religion as at 2024. However a large portion of Earth's population remain relatively unscathed but exposed as at AD 2024. Communist USSR tried with no success, Communist China as well. The socialist nation of Cuba however somehow faced it with Yoruba spirituality and religion in Cuba is almost stamped out and without any confrontation. Cuba of around ten million people had over one hundred thousand registered Awo Orunmila as at over twenty years ago. The original name of the adherents of the doctrines of Apostle Paul was Nazarene before they were christened Christians by Greek onlookers in Antioch. The name was to connote the fact that Jesus who became their God was from Nazareth. As Christians and Muslims fight within and outward, the body count of religion soared. The violence has been on since thd third century and it is yet to abate. The US government saw and seized an opportunity to end it all in 1988 when the ROF led by Oluwo Fernandez reported a well respected clergy man Pastor E A Adeboye for using human beings for church growth rituals. He was put on death row but appropriated by the CIA as a resource for use to end religion. Along the line, our family joined his church the RCCG in Ilesa and we attended the 1988 convention when I was eight years old. He sighted my Dad from a distance and called him and he prayed for the whole family. My Dad and himself were bunkmates at the Ilesa Grammar school hostel in the 1950s and they graduated in 1960. Soon after, he made a comment to the hearing of the CIA to the approximate effect that he had risen while my Dad had fallen. My Dad in the fifties was one of the most if not the most prominent young man in Ilesa as the son of the highest ranking Action Group politician in the area while Enoch Adeboye was the son of a poor man who wore no shoes to school. Enoch Adeboye saw the tables as having turned and that led to his comment. The CIA as a result of Adeboye's disparaging remarks about my Dad advised the Oluwo to tell my Dad to leave his business and join Adeboye's church the RCCG as a full time Pastor as his contribution to a US led effort to end religion on the globe. The message was delivered by Chief Akin Fafowora who was then a UN diplomat. It was in 1995. My Dad agreed but asked that his first son meaning myself will marry the Oluwo's daughter if he is to leave his business to become a full time Pastor. My Dad became a full time Pastor in 1995 and he also became a CIA asset via the ROF up till his death in 2022. I was fifteen in 1995. Five years after my Dad became a full time Pastor, my mum during a meeting with Enoch Adeboye reported me to him as being the most problematic about religion among her kids and Adeboye promised to assist to rein me in. That was in 2000 when I was an undergraduate in the university. The scene was captured by US surveillance and that was how Barbara Bush entered the fray to later bring along with her tens of other ladies to be waiting for me. Barbara was born with a birth prediction that she will marry an African, evidence of which was shown by her grandfather, President George H W Bush. As at 2000 there was no African in sight. President Bill Clinton came to Nigeria with Chelsea Clinton because there was a possibility I would marry Chelsea having come on the CIA radar in 2000 since I was appropriated immediately as a US or CIA asset. Oluwo Fernandez was advised to tell my Dad in 2000 that his request that I will marry the Oluwo's daughter had been granted. However Barbara became the chief lady waiting for me because she was waiting even before she became conscious of herself. I and my Dad became baits for Adeboye and his RCCG in the quest by the CIA to end the scourge of religion on Earth surface. I became a US citizen unconsciously starting from 2000 after President GHW Bush appropriated me as the young man in Barbara's birth prediction. She became the port at which my ship was anchored. I became a CIA asset unconsciously at 20 years of age in 2000 while my Dad became one at 54 in 1995. I joined social media around 2007 oblivious of the challenges before me and I started to contribute on how to salvage Nigeria. My proposals did not sit well with Queen Elizabeth of England and she sent assassins after me ten times starting from 2008. Adeboye opened the floor of trying to kill me in 2007 and it was to cover his tracks because my former employee Oreoluwa Adesua that he used to attack my business was about to mention the Pastor in court that approached and directed her to do what she did. Other leaders of religion in Nigeria also attacked me because of my attack on religion with satire and sarcasm. The average of those that attacked me paid assassins to kill me by gunfire or food poisoning more than once. I was saved by a US led alliance consisting originally of USA, Russia, China and India before Japan and other nations joined the effort. Japan became a front runner because they were funding the Ifa heritage institute in Oyo and because I met Shirabe Ogata a Japanese PhD student in ILE Ife in 2004. Nation building and satirical attacks on religion were what drew fire from my enemies. I continued writing under the protection of the US led alliance and evidence were being compiled that will be used in the master stroke that will confine religion to private homes and kickstart its eventual disappearance from Earth's society. I was saved from assassination thirty times from a combination of Nigerian clergy men, politicians and members of the British royal family headed by the Queen whose grievance is that I am disturbing her plans to turn the Yoruba and other Nigerians to proper British people by my nation building effort. It resulted in viable prosperity for the whole world added to the relegation of religion to semi oblivion. If we say we have entered the information age, we must realize that Ifa of Orunmila more than the internet is the most important facility or tool of the age. To pay back in some ways the four nations that facilitated my part of the war effort by preventing my assassination and motivating me, I will enjoin the Yoruba led nation that will emerge after the struggle to teach English and Russian in schools as well as one of Mandarin and Hindi for the commemoration of the historic effort. All UN member nations should also follow suit because they are all beneficiaries.

Chapter 5 – Choosing Martial Arts Skills (1)

The martial arts library was an important ground in the sect, it had a collections of different martial skills collected over hundreds of years. They were used to help those of the later generation hoping that they could expand the family.

Usually, a sect’s number and quality of martial arts determined how strong the sect would be. Zhao Feng remembered that at the Green Leaf village Zhao family, there wasn’t even a martial arts library.

The martial arts library was divided into 3 floors.

In the first floor there was a large quantity of martial arts, but most of them were low ranked, with a few middle ranked ones there as well.

The second floor apparently had the sects secret and traditional techniques. Most of them were of the high rank, there were even some peak ranked ones there!

However, to enter the second floor one needed one to be at least at the 4th rank of the martial path.

And the 3rd floor was just a rumour, as it had never been opened….

However, for Zhao Feng, the 2nd and 3rd floors were just too far away, even the 1st floor’s martial arts were something that he yearned for.

He had no background in the sect, and a person with no background or exceptional talent could not access higher ranked martial arts. The Flaming Metal Fists he had was only a core rank martial art, and it was even weaker than a low ranked martial art.

However, after breaking through to the 2nd rank of the martial path, he had the right to enter the 1st floor and choose a martial art.

“The Zhao sect, it is no wonder that it is one of the 3 big families of the Sun Feather city, which rides on top of several hundreds of other families.”

Zhao Feng stepped into the first floor, his breathing quickening.

At the first floor, he could see a few other Zhao disciples, but all of them were using their time to choose their own martial art skills.

According to the rules, those that entered the martial arts library only had half an hour to select.

So everyone that entered the martial arts library didn’t waste any time.

“I’ve got half an hour and I need to choose a middle rank martial art, or two low ranked martial arts.”

Zhao Feng took a deep breath, and scanned along the bookshelves.

The 1st floor of the martial arts library had several thousand books, and every book was half an inch thick. To find one or two martial arts from such a high amount was not easy.

“Rock Breaking Palm, Angered Dragon Fist, Leaf Picking Sword, Wind like foot……”

Different kinds of martial art skills made Zhao Feng’s eyes turn colourful.

Shuah! Shuah! …..

Zhao Feng flipped the pages of these martial art skills quickly to the 1st page.

These martial arts usually had their summaries on the first page.

Crazy Wing Blade Blade like the wind, powerful like lightning, uses speed to win. Minimum requirement is 1st rank of the Martial Path, to train this skill is average. Rank: Low.

Angered Dragon Fists Can increase the strength of the cultivator, can put all the power into one attack. Minimum requirement is 2nd rank of the martial path, to train this skill is quite hard. Rank: Peak of the Middle rank.

Wind like foot A close combat skill which uses speed to win. When trained to fullest potential, can fight against many people and not lose. Minimum requirements is 1st rank of the martial path, but needs high level of understanding. Rank: Middle.

Metal Sand: Increases the defence of the body. Under fully activation can go head to head with same rank opponent. Someone who can train it to a high level can use their body and fight against swords and blades. Minimum requirements is 2nd rank of the martial path and needs high will power. Rank: Middle.

………

“The martial arts library’s skills are stronger than the core ranked skills by far, just as expected…..”

Zhang Feng was extremely pleased, and the skills he saw were mainly middle rank ones.

After only looking through tens of books, his heart had already been moved several times.

However, the martial arts library had restrictions. He could only take out 1 middle rank martial art.

If I could only take out a few then that would be great…..

Zhao Feng felt unwilling and thought it was unfair, “Branch disciples can only choose one middle martial art whereas the main disciples can choose two.”

To increase his speed in choosing, Zhao Feng started to use his left eye.

With his left eye, his speed increased more than 10 times….

Shuah shuah shuah …..

Zhao Feng’s left eye used an incredible speed to look through these martial arts.

He only needed one look to understand it all.

Looking at over thirty books, Zhao Feng fully memorised the contents of them and compared them with one another.

When he had scanned over 50, Zhao Feng suddenly realised something…….

Not right!

Zhao Feng suddenly froze.

He went back to his memories of other books.

In his mind the contents of the book’s appeared and not a single word was wrong.

“This…..”

Zhao Feng felt himself tremble with excitement.

After merging with the left eye, Zhao Feng’s memory had increased as well, it could be said that he only needed to look at something once and would never forget it.

Especially when he activated his left eye, the contents of the books were as if they were burned into his mind.

Zhao Feng never thought that he would achieve the power of “never forgetting”.

There were many rumours about geniuses on Azure Flower Continent, and “never forgetting” was one of the attributes they had…..

However, “never forgetting” for most people was that their memory was good, they only needed to read it once and would remember 80-90 percent of the contents.

However, compared with Zhao Feng’s “never forgetting”, his was clearly much stronger; he was literally not able to forget.

With this power, at the martial arts library, it meant that Zhao Feng could take a “few more” books out.

“Fast, fast, fast!”

Zhao Feng had a look of excitement and started to memorise all the books he could.

Shuah shuah shuah ……

His concentration was put to max as he flipped through the pages as soon as he read them.

As long as the contents were looked at by his left eye, it didn’t matter if it was words or drawings, he memorised all of them.

It only took Zhao Feng 20 breaths of time to fully remember a book with 50 pages.

“Hahaha ……. Never forget! Good!”

Zhao Feng felt nice, but he seemed more insane as he ripped through the books.

His actions obviously caused some of the other disciples to look over.

“I think this guy’s gone crazy…”

“Maybe it is his first time going in and he is too excited…”

Some of the disciples looked at Zhao Feng’s actions and shook their heads.

Time passed by in a flash……

¾ of half an hour had already passed.

Hu!

Zhao Feng let out a long breath. He felt tired, but it still couldn’t stop the excitement in him.

At this point, he had “stolen” over 100 books of martial arts.

These martial arts were mainly middle ranked martial arts. It included Fists skills, Palm skills, Sword skills, Breathing skills, Footwork skills, Defence skills and many more.

Because Zhao Feng kept on using his left eye, his mind became tired.

Next, Zhao Feng’s left eye scanned around the area and landed upon an old martial art book.

The reason why he stopped here was because Zhao Feng felt that the materials this book was mode of were different from the rest.

Zhao Feng picked up this book and on the top were 3 words: Lightly Floating Ferry.

He flipped to the first page.

Lightly Floating Ferry High Rank martial art, can make the cultivator move through the snow without leaving marks, can drift across the river and make the person feel like a bird….. When trained high enough, the person can double jump and even fly for short moments! Minimum requirements is 2nd rank of the martial path and to train in this skill is very hard. In addition, inner strength will increase the force. Achieving the highest realm will let a person be the quickest out of everyone under the 7th rank of the martial path.

Zhao Feng fist thought that this was just an ordinary footwork skill, but after he saw “double jump”, and “added with Inner Strength”, his eyes twinkled.

“Double jump” exceeded the limits of Middle rank martial arts, even some High ranked ones cannot do that!

“In addition, inner Strength” meant that this skill was suited for martial artists above or at the 4th rank of the martial path.

And the most incredible part was: Achieving the highest realm will allow the person to have the fastest speed of all under the 7th rank of the martial path.

“What an exaggeration! Even some peak rank martial arts won’t have the courage to say this.”

Zhao Feng’s eyes shone and without hesitation, he started reading the contents of Lightly Floating Ferry.

He had a question in his heart though, why would such a strong skill be put at the bottom floor? And why would no one learn it?

Soon, Zhao Feng found the reason.

After flipping to ¼ of the book, the words started to blur out. The main reason was that the book was too old, and the book started to mould.

That meant that this book only had ¼ of its original contents.

“So unfortunate…..”

Zhao Feng was severely disappointed.

However, he did not give up and continued to use his left eye on the blurred out words.

Using all of his power on his left eye, Zhao Feng could just about see the words under the mould, this already exceeded a normal human’s eyesight by at least 20-30 times.

After reading 1-2 pages, Zhao Feng felt his mind go tired and his left eye felt as if they was no power left in it.

“If I take this back I can slowly read all of it’s later contents.”

Zhao Feng thought up to here, and then took Lightly Floating Ferry out of the 1st floor of the martial arts library.

“Lightly Floating Ferry? You want this book?”

The white-robed elder asked with scrunched eyebrows.

“Yes.”

Zhao Feng politely said.

“This book has been around for a thousand years and there are parts in it which exceed high rank martial arts by far.” After talking up to here, the white-robed elder’s voice turned: “However, only ¼ of this book can be seen. An important note: to fully train this in skill is super hard, even some geniuses cannot do it. Even if they do it….. Under the 4th rank of the martial path, the potential is restricted.

At last, the white-robed elder warned: “I’d advise you to change a book, or else you will never break through to the 4th rank of the martial path and become a true martial artist.”

“Thank you elder for your warning, but my heart is decided.”

Zhao Feng had a calm look on his face.

Looking at the Zhao Feng leave, the white-robed elder shook his head and said, “These youths nowadays all take the highest ranked book possible.”

He believed that Zhao Feng would not be able to fully learn Lightly Floating Ferry, and taking a step back, even if he could, what could a partially martial art book do?

Leaving the martial arts library, Zhao Feng returned home.

Sitting on his bed, he closed his eyes, and on inside of his mind the contents of around 100 martial art books quickly surfaced……

Chapter 4 – Zhao Yijian

“After breaking through to the 2nd rank of the Martial Path, I won’t be at the bottom anymore, and I’ll also have the right to participate in the “Family Sparring Contest”.

Zhao Feng was very excited, but soon calmed down.

The martial path had 9 ranks, and every rank was harder to achieve than the previous one, similar to a pyramid.

Everyone knew that the first 3 ranks were known as the “Power Ranks”, they were also known as Martial Learner!

Martial Learners used force to strengthen their bodies to provide a strong foundation for later realms.

Although Martial Learner were very low, as it was only considered to have entered the gateway of Martial Arts, to cultivate to the peak of the 3rd rank was not to be looked down upon as one would have at least 400 kg of strength, those born with better talent could even have over 500 kg’s of strength. They could rip apart tigers and destroy bears with their bare hands.

Although Zhao Feng had only broken through to the 2nd rank, he had around 250-300 kg’s of strength, which was well outside the capabilities of normal people. If it was accompanied by strong martial skills, tens of normal people wouldn’t even be able to reach him.

“If I can reach the 3rd rank of the Martial Path, and have around 350-400 kg’s of strength, my overall strength will at least double.”

Zhao Feng thought in his heart.

Of course, the thing that he yearned for was the 4th rank of the Martial Path.

The 4th to 6th rank of the Martial Path were known as the “Accumulation Ranks”, they were also known as Martial Artists, those who were real Martial Artists!

After entering this realm, the Martial Artist wouldn’t just have a strong body and blood. They could also strengthen their organs and use the power of “Inner strength”, which surpassed that of pure muscle attacks.

Once they reached Martial Artist, they would leave the realms of mundane people and entered a higher level.

Back at Green Leaf Village, Zhao Feng had the urge to become a true Martial Artist, and entering the Zhao sect had made this dream come one step closer.

……

After he entered the 2nd rank of the martial path, Zhao Feng immediately told his parents.

2nd Rank of the martial path?

His father Zhao Tianyang and his mother Zhao Shi were both surprised but let out deep breaths.

As Zhao Feng was able to reach the 2nd rank at this age without the use of outside help, his talent could be said to be better than some people.

“All you have to do next for the next two months is to prepare for the “Family Sparring Contest”. We do not need you to do extremely well, just do not lose face.”

Zhao Tianyang revealed a happy smile.

Zhao Shi also had a pleased smile.

For Zhao Feng to reach this step, they were very pleased and did not have higher expectations.

However, Zhao Feng’s target wasn’t restricted to just this. He wanted to become a true Martial Artist, maybe even reach the pinnacle of Martial Arts.

“After breaking through to the 2nd rank, my status within the sect is now higher and I have the right to enter the first floor of the “Martial Arts Library”.”

The sects “Martial Arts library” contained many different martial arts skills.

Thinking about this, Zhao Feng immediately went towards the Martial Arts Library.

“Brother Feng!”

Halfway, a slightly shocked voice from a girl stopped him.

The young girl’s voice had a familiar sound and felt comfortable to listen to.

Zhao Feng’s body turned stiff.

From his side came a boy and girl whose ages weren’t very old.

The male was purple clothed, had thick eyebrows, a straight tall back and sharpness in his eyes. His cultivation had reached the peak of the 3rd rank, the other disciples around them felt the pressure he emitted.

“He is the sects 3rd ranking disciple of the outer disciples “Zhao Yijian”!”

The people around them exclaimed, with faces full of worry and fear.

The one that came with Zhao Yijian was a young woman wearing white, whose age was the same as Zhao Feng, around 13 or 14, she had a clear beautiful face.

“Little Sister Xue.”

Zhao Feng looked at the white clothed girl and his mouth subconsciously curled into a mocking smile.

The girl in front of him was the one who entered the sect with him half a year ago, “Zhao Xue”.

Back at Green Leaf Village, Zhao Xue was a huge fan of his. However, after they entered the Zhao sect they became distant from one another, they were almost total strangers now.

After Zhao Xue entered the Zhao sect, using her beauty, she quickly became good friends with Zhao Yijian, who was ranked 3rd of the outer disciples, and then, by using her connections, she achieved the 2nd of the martial path half a month ago.

At this moment, Zhao Xue said something to Zhao Yijian.

“Ok, but just do not take too long.”

Zhao Yijian nodded his head and leaned aside, not even bothering to look at Zhao Feng.

Zhao Xue walked in front of Zhao Feng and,in a complex manner, and with a little sigh, said, “Brother Feng, you have finally broken through to the 2nd rank. However, Xue’er is going to give you some advice, do not be too stubborn. After entering the sect, I have realised that the place we started at is too low compared to the ones here.”

“What do you want to say?”

Zhao Feng broke off her sentence and responded with a cold face.

Zhao Xue had a bit of anger of her face, but she still bit her teeth and said, “Brother Feng, Xue’er is going to advice you one more time, go to brother Yijian and pledge yourself to him. With his help, only then will you merge with the main Zhao sect, that way you can avoid problems……”

Pledge?

Zhao Feng made a cold laugh. He won’t pledge to anyone in his whole life.

Zhao Yijian had a cold aura and was extremely arrogant. Every time he saw Zhao Feng, it was with his nostrils, as if he was too high up compared to him.

Seeing Zhao Feng’s expression, Zhao Xue immediately knew, as they grew up together she understood Zhao Feng very well.

Zhao Xue walk back to Zhao Yijian’s side and murmured something.

“Hmph! He doesn’t know what’s good for him, this useless garbage.”

Zhao Yijian said in a cold voice.

“Useless garbage?”

Zhao Feng’s eyebrows scrunched.

Maybe it because he saw Zhao Feng so unwilling, but Zhao Yijian took a pause and coldly said, “I’ve heard that you’re the genius of Green Leaf village? However, at the Zhao sect, you’re just a little bug! We’ll meet at the “Family Sparring contest” and I’ll beat you in just one move.”

“Just like what I would say, we’ll meet at the contest.”

Zhao Feng spat bitterly and then turned towards the Martial Arts library.

He didn’t want to keep on talking, since they were bound to fight 2 months later, and the one with greater strength would win.

As Zhao Xue’s eyesight passed by Zhao Feng, it flashed ever so slightly.

At this point, she felt a strange feeling from Zhao Feng. A feeling that she couldn’t understand.

“He sure thinks he’s good.”

Zhao Yijian snorted.

He didn’t even think of Zhao Feng as a serious opponent!

At the sects outer disciples, those that had entered the 3rd rank of the martial path didn’t exceed 60 people, and to rank 3rd out of these… It could be seen that he had some great skills up his sleeve.

Zhao Xue gave off a deep sigh in her heart, Zhao Feng was just finding trouble for himself.

Zhao Xue understood Zhao Yijian’s strength very well. Some of the 3rd ranks couldn’t even block one move of his.

……..

After a while, Zhao Feng came to the sect’s important grounds, the Martial Arts Library.

The Martial Arts Library was very important to the sect, and therefore had elders guarding it.

“Branch disciple?”

The white-clothed elder inside the Martial Arts library looked at Zhao Feng’s identity plate, and scrunched up his eyebrows.

“Great elder.”

Zhao Feng had a polite face on, he knew the elders strength.

From his left eye, he felt a mysterious force coming from the elder. It was a layer of red aura, which was between their blood and skin, but was constantly moving through their veins, and could attack at any time. It could also attack through the air and crush metal into powder.

Zhao Feng knew that the white-clothed elder had already cultivated “inner strength” to a high degree, it could destroy one hundred of him in an instant.

Only those that were at the 4th rank of the martial path or higher could have inner strength.

Zhao Xue, Zhao Kun, these martial learners wouldn’t have inner strength.

Zhao Feng took a bow and said: “Elder, I want to go into the second floor of the martial arts library.”

“Achieving the 2nd rank at 14 years of age is average. However, before you become an inner disciple, I must tell you that branch disciples and main disciples have different treatments in the martial arts library.”

The white-robed elder said.

When Zhao Feng heard this, he paused a second, but then thought about the new rules of the sect and immediately understood.

“Elder, please go on.”

Zhao Feng knew that before having absolute power, he didn’t have any right to discuss the rules.

The white-clothed elder said with an expressionless face: “those with the 2nd rank of the martial path can only enter the first floor of the martial arts library. The first floor of the martial arts library have a lot of low ranked martial arts, and a few middle ranked ones. Main sect disciples can choose two middle ranked martial arts, or four low ranked martial arts at max, and the limit for borrowing these is two months. Side branch disciples can only choose one middle ranked martial art, or two low ranked martial arts, and the time limit is one month.”

After listening to the rules, Zhao Feng took a deep breath and said, “This junior understands.”

The branch disciples had only half of the quantity and time compared to the main branch disciples.

“Ok! You can go in now, but the time limit is half an hour.”

Under the white-robed elder’s guidance, Zhao Feng slowly stepped into the martial arts library, a place he’d dreamed of coming to.

How I spent six days in kidnapper’s den — Electrical engineer
16th June 2024

Temitope Adetunji
Kindly share this story:

Electrical engineer, Kayode Ogunsade tells TEMITOPE ADETUNJI the harrowing story of how he was abducted by unknown gunmen from his workplace place in Ogun State

What do you do for a living?

My name is Kayode Ogunsade. I am 58 years old. I am an indigene of Ekiti State. I live in Ogun State, and I am an electrical engineer.

Could you describe the events leading up to your kidnapping?

THE ROUND TABLE: FG Warns Of Mass Sacking Should ‘Unrealistic Minimum Wage’ Happen0:00 / 0:00

The incident occurred in 2023. It was after our virtual management meeting at Eltees Farm, around the Shagamu interchange. I wouldn’t have been present at work on that fateful day, but our company’s egg-handling machine was faulty and needed my attention. By 4 pm, I had finished all the day’s chores and returned to my office to brief my assistants about the meeting outcome and to plan the following week’s tasks as usual. Samuel, my assistant (mechanical), and I were waiting for Ridwan, my assistant (electrical and admin), who was busy on a task when sudden sporadic gunshots jolted us to full alert.

What came to your mind when you heard the sporadic gunshots?

What came to your mind when you heard the sporadic gunshots? I thought that the sounds were due to the blasting of stones; perhaps they were digging a well somewhere and were blasting a stone or something. Samuel offered to go and check what was going on outside; he returned with the news that the people wore hoods and were armed with AK-47s. By this time, all 19 maintenance boys (the majority of whom are northerners who left home because of terror experiences) were already present at the office.

One of them suggested we break my office window’s burglary proof and escape to the nearest bush before the bandits broke the door, which they were already working on, I gave the go-ahead, and the window was broken. The boys were jumping out of the window one after the other. It was the turn of Samuel and me when the door gave way, and we were ordered to move at gunpoint. However, all other offices had been ransacked and all laptops and phones were taken.

Fortunately, all other senior staff were outside the admin block and hence ran into the bush for safety. While Samuel and I were being dragged, Samuel tried to plead with them in Hausa, but the guy (they call him Magaji) who was with him, whom I later found out was their leader, shot him at a very close range. He fell and I later found out that Samuel died on the spot.

A teenage Fulani boy they address as “Yaro” ran at me and hit me on the head with a piece of wood. The impact tore a part of my head, and blood started gushing out of the wound. One of our loaders and one lady who works at the crate washing unit were taken with me to the gate. The lady escaped back into the premises because they weren’t focusing on her, so I gave her an eye signal to run away. While the kidnappers were trying to take more hostages from the passersby, the loader, a Fulani guy from Maiduguri, and I was guarded by a guy holding a cutlass (they call him Yellow).

Do you perceive yourself as unfortunate when you were captured alongside Samuel?

Yes, I would say I was unlucky, but actually, what came to my mind was that I was doing the best I could as a leader to allow them to go.

So what happened after you were captured?

At the entrance gate of our company, a building contractor and his boy were stopped in their car. The guy was dragged out and shot in the stomach. He was left in his pool of blood, and his boy was taken with us. Another Fulani guy, an amputee who works as a gateman at a company not far from Eltees farm where I work, was taken along with us. We trekked through a bush and came out at a footpath about 500 meters away from our gate, where the bike conveying a man and his co-worker from another company were stopped, and the two of them were herded with us. They led us through the bush path into a fenced compound overgrown by bushes. A farmhouse with five rooms was our abode for the night. Six of us were asked to lie down on the floor amidst beating and gunbuttling. They asked me if I was the manager, and I said I wasn’t. I said that I was a maintenance man. The loader was asked if I was lying.

They spoke to him in Hausa first and in a language, I later found out from him is Fulfulde (a Fulani language). He told them the same thing I said, and then the beating started again, on the guy and me. At about 2 am on 31st May 2023, they roasted three chickens they took from the pens at the Eltees farm and shared them among themselves. At about 4 am when they were done with their meals, one of them pointed a flashlight at my face and called out “Manager.” Immediately I opened my eyes, I said I was not the manager; that I am an engineer. The boy “Yaro” said in his poor English that he would have killed me right there if I had owned up to being the manager.

Do you feel he was going to kill you?

Yes, if I had answered him without clarifying that I wasn’t the manager, there is a tendency that he would kill me because those boys do not have mercy and human sympathy. Their leader asked me to be brought to him, “Call your oga patapata for company,” he said. I replied that I didn’t remember any phone number at the moment and that they should give me either my small phone or one of my SIM cards. The one they call “Yellow” brought some SIM cards, but none was mine.

Then the other Fulani teenager threatened to kill me, but the leader said no, that he shouldn’t kill me. I then requested my small phone, and luckily there was a message I had sent to Ridwan about a month earlier which still contained his number. I typed out his number and called him, luckily he picked up the call, and I said “Samuel” because I thought I was talking to Samuel, unaware that Samuel had died from the gunshot earlier. I was able to pass two pieces of information to Ridwan, of which one was “Please tell my wife and the chairman to contact the kidnappers on this number, send me my wife and chairman’s number.” The second one “I will send you a message please forward it to Victor.” Before I could say any other word, a blinding slap that opened my wound again threw the phone out of my hand.

I started bleeding from the wound again, and I was feeling dizzy, but I managed to tell the leader that I wanted to pass information to the chairman so that he would pick up my call if I called him from the phone they were using. He asked how, and I said I would need to send a message if he permits me. He then gave me the phone and said, “Do it quick.” I quickly typed two messages, one to Ridwan describing the location we were kept, the other telling the chairman I had been kidnapped.

I sent it to Ridwan and deleted it immediately. I left the chairman’s message on the phone and even showed their leader (Kidnapper) who waved me away. My wife called at about 4:50 am, and all she could offer was crying. Mr. Kola, our HIC, called at about 5:10 AM, and they made a ransom request of N30 million, which he said was difficult. He was asked to call back later.

How did you know the location where you were kept?

The funny thing is that the location is not far from the farm where we were taken from. I had always passed by with my car when going to my workplace, but I never imagined there was a hiding place where kidnappers could be operating in the bush.

How did you manage to stay calm during such a traumatic experience?

It wasn’t easy, but I just kept believing in God, even though my faith was shaking at a point. So, we were in the room where we were kept until early afternoon when the sound of a gunshot jolted everyone to attention. I later found out it was the vigilante group attempting to rescue us. One of the criminals volunteered to go after the gunman. About 10 minutes later, a lone gunshot was heard, and soon the volunteer returned with his victim’s gun and charms; he had killed the vigilante operative.

All nine of them started talking at once, asking who had called the vigilante. When things calmed down, I pointed out to them that the hiding place was close to a village and it was on the way to the villagers’ farm, so someone must have suspected that they were hiding there. They agreed, and the leader told them to prepare to move us out of there. Then, movement into another bush started. Earlier, I had told them that I could not walk well because I had terrible pain in my right leg and hip, so the leader said something to “Yellow,” and he went into the bush and came back with a walking stick for me to aid my walking.

We trekked for two hours in the forest towards Omu village along Papalanto. Then, we were asked to lie down in the bush to rest. We continued the journey from about 11 pm until 5 am. During the journey, we were beaten with wood and gun butts. I fainted twice. I was lying there for about 30 minutes feeling the bites of Soldier Ants. However, I didn’t have the strength to get up. I heard one of them cocking a gun, and I heard their leader telling him something in another language other than Hausa. When another camp was formed, we stayed there all day.

How many days did you spend in their den?

We spent six days. On the third day of our abduction, one of them was sent to fetch water with a five-litre keg. When he returned, he brought 10 plates of Jollof rice in disposable takeaway containers. They shared the food among themselves, leaving one plate which they gave me. Their leader said in his tattered Yoruba, “Baba daku daku eat that.” I asked about the others, but he shrugged and looked away. I couldn’t eat after three days without water, so I gave it to the rest of my fellow abductees.

Then, I begged our captors to please give me some water to drink, but they turned me down. Some minutes later, it started raining. I cut some leaves and folded them to scoop some rainwater and drink. In the night when we continued our journey, we entered a fenced estate site from the back at about 1:30 am. We drank water from the bricks the builders were using to mould blocks on-site. They kept us under one tree with two of them guarding us while the rest surveyed the area. I think there was a man who might have been in the military or an expert in firearms. He was the security man in that particular compound where we were kept.

When they sat us down, they asked three of them to monitor us, while the rest went to survey the area. We just heard gunshots. A few minutes later, they came back, and three of them were wounded. One out of the three was fatally wounded, and one of the two teenagers and one other guy sustained gunshot wounds. The fatally wounded man could not continue the journey, so they eased him out (he was later killed so that our journey would be faster and so that he wouldn’t be left there alive). They split us into two teams of three people each. The two Fulani men and the builder’s boy were taken away from the rest of us. I later found out they were the ones who buried the dead kidnapper and were released afterward.

On our side, we were led through a maize farm to a stream where we were allowed to drink water. By this time, I was weak, and my feet were badly sore, so one guy was asked to support me while we walked. I was given the deceased’s sandals. I had lost my canvas while being taken out of Eltees Farm. We crossed the road around an estate in the bush around Omu and arrived at a local palm oil factory where we rested for a while and moved into a thick forest. We made a camp where we stayed until night, then took a tour of the bush and came back to the camp at dawn. This was the routine until we were released.

How did you end up paying the ransom?

Before my release, negotiations continued with my nephew, Sunday Oladele, who was in contact with them. My co-workers and the whole management team had received instructions not to contact the kidnappers or me again. They were told to let my family handle the negotiation. They threatened my family to make them succumb to their demands.

I instructed my nephew to sell my car and house just to get me out of their clutches. Our chairman, Mr. Lanre Adesanya, gave my wife N1m, and our church pastor, Mr. Samuel Oluwafemi, went to borrow N500,000:00 from a microfinance bank. My nephew negotiated based on the cash at hand, and fortune smiled on us as they agreed to N1.5m each for me and the other captive. On the 3rd of June, Sunday Oladele was supposed to take the money to a particular location, but by midnight, he was still unable to get there. When he called, I told him in our local dialect to go back home and come back the following day.

Why did you ask your nephew to go back home?

So that he wouldn’t be killed, and I might not end up being killed too as it was too late. I couldn’t afford to lose myself, lose my nephew, and the money. So, my nephew communicated with the leader, and they agreed. That night, we didn’t sleep. We were just moving from one point to another. On June 4th, 2023, the ransom was delivered around 2 pm. The milk and malt they collected were shared among them, and they also shared the money, including the phones.

Three of them moved away immediately. At about 3:30 pm, another three, including the replacement of the deceased one, moved. At about 6 pm, when the last team was about to move, they ordered us to stand up, and three of them cocked their rifles and pointed them at us. I raised my hands and begged them to spare our lives. They later burst out in laughter and said we should go. They led us to an oil palm factory and gave us N1,000:00 each for a bike ride.

How did you manage to find your way home?

It took me about 40 minutes to walk from our location to Papa Road. I could hardly move my legs again. I was looking so unkempt and tattered that someone who didn’t know me would have mistaken me for a madman. When I got to the road and was about 2½ kilometers away from Iyana Ofada, only tippers and okadas plied the road. My pleas to them to take me out of the jungle fell on deaf ears, and my co-abductees were nowhere to be found.

They had left me behind. But, as fate would have it, they took the wrong route and had to take a bike towards me again. They picked me up on their way, and we arrived at the junction. The okada rider helped me find another Okada who conveyed me to Owode Egba.

What happened when you got home?

On my way home, I encountered a crowd at the Obafemi Owode police station. Although I was too weak to find out what was going on immediately, I got the report from my nephew (Sunday Oladele) the following day. While he was returning from the meeting point with the kidnappers, a set of local vigilantes who must have suspected something accosted them. When questions about their suspicious movement were raised, he narrated the whole story to them and told them that the criminals were about to leave the location as they were speaking. The locals mounted a roadblock, and fortunately, one of the kidnappers ran into them on a bike. He saw and recognised my nephew and instructed the bike rider to speed off to escape the local security men. The bike fell into a ditch, and the rider lost control, hitting an electric pole, and the passenger hit his head against the pole and eventually lost his life while being taken to the police station.

What are you thankful to God for?

I am grateful to God that my life was spared after the ransom was paid. I have heard stories of how people died even after ransoms were paid for them. It was a sad experience; I spent some days in the hospital, and now my right leg is still not completely healed. I resigned from work to be able to take care of my health and I am still recuperating.
Travel / Re: Before You Travel Abroad As An African Man by Deeegbee: 11:13pm On Jun 16
pansophist:
For those who don't understand what the OP is saying, let me put in another way.

There is racial hierarchy the world is built upon, and most Africans who haven't left Africa don't know about it. Ngozi Chimamanda spoke about being aware she is black after she left Nigeria. She never knew it was a thing.

You might not know about it, but the world will show you where they think you belong, and it can be dehumanizing if you don't know how to navigate these terrains.

It's like how a bank manager may single out a millionaire standing in the queue, even if you all are customers. Or in a church, the big boys hang out with themselves, forming cliques.

You never thought your poverty could be used against you, after all, you didn't bother anyone with it. it's the same for race. I am black, but I didn't trouble you with my blackness, so why this treatment?

The best way to navigate such a scenario is not to play. You can only lose if you play. Just be in the group if you have to be there, but be mute, don't view their comments, mute the chat, and only respond and reply where it is NECESSARY.

Don't exit the group, to avoid giving a wrong impression, but you need to operate overtly since they are also operating overtly. You act like you don't know their game, and when they hope to catch and beat you somewhere, you are not there.

But make sure you are good at whatever you do, your competence is your redemption. Let them feel superior, or disenfranchise you from whatever, but when they are done operating in deceit, they will know deep down that you are good, and them no reach.

Well said!

Though, I won’t agree with the 3rd to the last paragraph to keep mute in a group.

I feel you should always contribute so you can be heard of. One shouldn’t keep mute in a group task. You can even choose to take the floor and lead as a Moderator if nobody was assigned.

Your last paragraph says it all, be competent in what you do. They can’t beat you at what you know.
