Hey guys, my passport is expiring in April 2022

Can I still use it to apply for Visa ?

My school resumes in January and I wanna start applying for another passport today, but I don’t know when it will be out cry

I believe you need minimum 6 months passport validity before applying for a visa.

VISA Approved today in Abuja 12pm

Course of Study: Mechanical Engineering
School: University of Colorado, Boulder
Fee: 52k
Funding: 14k
Balance: 38k

VO: Good afternoon, pass me your I20 and passport
Me: Good afternoon sir
VO: Have you ever traveled out of the country before?
Me: No, I have not had any reason to.
VO: What are you going to the US for
ME: I am going for my masters research program in the University of Colorado Boulder. I will be working with Dr. blablabla on Renewable Energy integration.
VO: How did you find out about your program
Me: I presented a paper during a conference hosted at CU Boulder, then during the breakout session I was able to connect with Dr. blablabla and I spoke about my interest in renewable energy grid integration. She was fascinated to hear about it and she told me she’s also working on a similar project funded by the department of energy. She suggested I join her research team and she put in a word for me to the department head about my research interest and the prospect of joining the department as a grad student.
VO: you mean you went to CU Boulder for a conference?
Me: no, I attended the conference virtually. I presented online.
VO: Oh okay. That’s nice.
VO: How do you plan on paying for your program
Me: well as you can see on my I20, my I have a scholarship of 14k, the balance will be paid by my father.
VO: what does your father do?
ME: He is a politician and a businessman. He owns a saw milling factory, palm oil plantation, palm oil processing factory etc
VO: He’s a politician? What kind of politician?
ME: I explained to him
VO: Okay your application looks good, I’ll be approving your visa…

I tried to listen to the rest of what he was saying after those golden words but I can remember anything.

I didn’t see the Korean VO that’s talked about. Just one bald white male attended to most of us.

I am grateful for the community here. The information posted here and the transcripts helped me to prepare well. I feel getting the visa is easy if one is confident and have a good application. Tbh when I listening to some other interviews before my turn I could tell the outcome from the conversation. Most people don’t prepare well for the interviews and it sometimes obvious from their answers, so can’t really blame the VOs for refusing.

Thank you all.

Chief,

Please have you gotten your passport back from the embassy?

Regards,

Hi Hi, I never knew a thread like this existed. Thanks guys.
I’m to commence my RA and GA for masters in TnTech Tennessee on 3rd Jan, and classes begin 10th Jan. My Visa interview was initially scheduled for 7th Dec but suddenly I saw an email of a shift to 12th Jan. That’s far from my scheduled resumption… what can I do? I applied for another emergency Visa schedule (I had applied before to get the 7th date)… do you think the embassy just shifts Visa dates abruptly?
Please someone talk to me. I have got funding and don’t wanna miss it.
Lastly is there anyone going to Tennessee, TnTech??

You should mail TnTech and ask for extended date of resumption. Attach the change of appointment email from the embassy.

Which course are you going for at TnTech?

VIsa Denied Today Abuja Around 11am
Me and My Wife carrying our baby: Good afternoon Sir
VO: Have you travelled out before?

Me: You mean me or my Wife?

VO: Any of you

Me: No , but my Wife Yes.

VO to my Wife: Which country did you go to?

My Wife: United Kingdom

VO: While typing already not interested in our response from his face. What did you travel to do? At this point I had become unstable.

My wife: I went on a care Visit, I went to take care of my sick brother.

VO to me: Why did you choose University of Arkansas?

Me: I chose the University because the industrial engineering programs has a added concentration on Operations research and manufacturing which are my core areas of interest. Apart from being among the top ranked universities in the US( I sha chop mouth here)

VO: Where are you working now:

Me : I work as a specialist Engineer in my company name: I quickly brought out my reference letter to give him , he said don’t worry.

VO : what area of engineering do you work?

Me: Telecommunications

VO; Nodes his head? What will you be doing after your program:

Me: My company is currently expanding into a few Africa countries and we plan to build over 5,000 telecommunications towers for the 5G technology in Nigeria. I intend to lead a technical role and it opens more opportunities for me.

VO: nodes his head still typing

VO: who is sponsoring you?

Me: my brother in-law mr Xyz

VO: what does he do?

Me: he is so so so in so so bank. I brought out the documents but he didn’t want to see them

VO: Keeps typing and typing and typing while we watch. Then the rejection line with blue paper.

I sha feel I didn’t answer my question as I planned due to fear. Almost 6 people ahead of me were denied due to that first question of travel history.

Is Well make una respond

Bro, you don't force documents unto them, you wait to be asked for it. Let's not allow this travel history thing disorient us. Nobody started travelling before he/she was born, there's always a first time and during my interview, two applicants without travel history got approved.. There are a host of other factors that these VO's look out for.

My 2cents below.

F Class of VISA is not meant to be treated/used as a visiting VISA. So I don't know how a VO will take it when he/she is told that an F visa holder will be travelling to/from his home country and the US periodically to oversee his business.

You can have someone in-charge who will be required to report daily/weekly to your husband on the health/status of his business. You can present this in a different way.

I might be wrong though.

Hello, this case is similar to mine.

I am on an F1 visa doing a phD in the US and my husband applied for F2 but was denied on the 24th of November,2021.

Reason they gave is 214b and the only question asked is how he intends to make money to support me if he is gone from his business for 3months(he indicated on the DS160 that he is returning March 2022)

We have tried to correct that on the form to reflect his duration to tally with my duration of study since it is F2 but we also indicated in the reason for denial in the new DS160 that he would be returning at intervals to oversee his business while his team members run it while he is away.

He is into tech startups and has a side job.
He is resigning this December to focus on his business though.

We also indicated all the businesses he runs in the new DS-160 and also that I have a fully funded assistantship which covers my tuition, health insurance and monthly stipend so he wouldn't need to support me.

This is because he said the VO also mentioned that he is sponsoring me because he provided the deficit which shows on the I-20.

He only provided a small deficit of 3k dollars about 1.5million and my friend who is a US Permanent resident was a guarantor for the amount required for F2.

He has been to the US twice of B1/B2 and spent a week and a month respectively on both trip and returned home.

I really need help as we are already applying again and I want him to join me this Christmas. I left August 2021 and during my interview when asked if he would be coming,I said that our plan is that he visits and I also visit during Summer breaks.

Was this wrong?

Our marriage is just 2years 8months and we have no child yet.

How else does he show home ties(we mentioned businesses and included his full time job on the form too)

Is it really a red flag since his name is on the I-20 as a sponsor even though it's a small deficit and I am fully funded.
How do we correct this? Do I tell my school to remove his name on the I-20?

I'm sorry for the long post, just trying to get a date asap for December.
I have gotten a lease approved for our apartment here and I can't cancel it.

If I may add, you mentioned that your husband has visited in the past, does he still have a valid B1/B2 visit? Is he still have a valid B1/B2 visit and intends to visit you for just 3 months, why is he not coming on B1/B2 visa and seeking for a new F2 visit?

Lastly, was he interviewed by the popular Korean guy in Abuja?
