What Are The Requirements For Opening An OPay Account?

To successfully open and operate an OPay account in Nigeria, you must first meet some of the requirements put in place by the bank. Below are the main things you need to create a tier 1-3 Opay account in 2024.

You need a Valid Phone Number
A Valid Email Address
A Strong Password (Make sure you remember the password)
You need a BVN (Bank Verification Number). This BVN can be obtained from any traditional bank in Nigeria.
A Valid ID Card( A government-issued identity card such as a voter card, international passport, driver’s license, or national identity card preferably)
Note: The bank requires this document because they have been directed by the Nigeria Apex Bank (CBN) to ensure compliance in the banking sector to enhance the security of your financial transactions.

Steps On How To Open An OPay Account In 2024 (Step-by-step Process)
To open your Opay account ensure you have all the documents mentioned above. Once you have them you can then proceed to the next step of creating an account with Opay.

Step#1

Visit any of the popular stores which are Google Play Store or Apple Store to download the app depending on the operating system of the smartphone.

Step#2

Make sure to click on the “SIGN UP” button displayed on your screen when you open the app

Step#3

You will be asked to create a secured password. Make sure to add a valid passport, something you can easily remember and difficult to guess by a third party.

Step#4

A verification code will be sent to the phone number you used during the signup process. This step is very important because that phone number will be used as your account number. Make sure to enter the verification code sent to you.

Step #5

Create a 4-digit PIN which you will use for authenticating a transaction.

Note: You have the option to link your debit card to the account for easy funding. However, this step is optional.

You can go ahead to fund the OPay account once you have carried out all the steps mentioned above.

How To Secure Your Opay Account From Hackers and Fraudsters

The current fraud rate in the country is alarming due to how easy it is to open some of these prepaid banks. however, as a user of Opay mobile wallet, you can safeguard yourself by following some of these tips to chase away fraudsters who might want to steal your hard-earned money.

To safeguard yourself and your account, the first thing you need to do is to ensure you create a password combination that is extremely difficult to guess. To do this, you can use the combinations of upper case letters, small letters, symbols etc.

I have seen people make the mistake of using passwords like 1234. This is a wrong approach even though it might be easy for you to remember.

What I will advise you is to create something complex like @#22&77$$. Something like this can never be guessed by a criminal preying on your account.

If you feel your password is compromised, you can as well change the password anytime to secure your account.

How To Troubleshoot Your Opay Account (Common Issues Faced By People)

Most people have complained that they are having challenges opening their Opay account. This issue in many cases is not from Opay rather it’s an issue from their network providers. If for any reason you’re trying to create an account and you encounter issues like VERIFICATION CODE FAILED. This might result from your number not receiving the code due to your network provider. Don’t panic, you can always retry anytime.

When using an email to sign up or create an OPay account, a verification email might be sent to you and you might not receive it. The thing is that, sometimes, the code might be in your spam folder. To verify if the code was delivered successfully, you can check your spam folder and be sure that it’s there.

Another issue might be an incorrect number. Some people in haste usually enter the wrong number hoping to get the verification code to sign up. This will not work, the code will be sent to the wrong person. this is why you need to always cross-check to ensure that the number entered is correct.

The last on the list is network issues. The truth is, sometimes your network provider might be having issues which might hinder your registration. If you suspect that your network is bad and you have internet data, you can restart your device to see if it will work or you try again later.

How To Contact OPay Customer Care/Support

Social Media: Instagram, Twitter, Facebook
In-App Support: OPay also offers a direct way to reach customer support through the app. You can use the “Help Center” or “Chat with Us” features to speak directly with a customer care representative.

Conclusion

If you follow all of the steps highlighted in this guide, you will open a functional Opay account successfully.

This account will allow you to carry out transactions easily because the Opay app works like the speed of light in the sense that once money is sent, it reflects almost instantly in the Opay account.

While using the Opay account, it is your responsibility to keep your account safe to avoid it being compromised by internet scammers. This is why it is advisable to create a strong passport and also avoid giving details to anyone who calls you to tell you that they are an agent of Opay. Opay will never call you to ask for your PIN or even ATM card details. Stay safe out there while using the Opay banking app or wallet.

Understanding How BVN Works

Having a basic understanding of how the BVN works will enable you to know how to point your BVN. Once your bank issues you your BVN, you can go ahead to use that number to create an account with any bank within Nigeria without having to enrol on the BVN again. Try to keep the number safe and avoid sharing it with strangers because when a fraudster gets his hands on that number, they can compromise your account, collect loans with your credit score and do a lot of damage. What Are The Signs That a BVN Has Been Blacklisted?

There are different visible signs to help you know that your BVN has been blacklisted. Below are some of the signs that a BVN has been blacklisted.

Constant Loan Application Rejection

Account Restrictions

Online Banking Issues

Notification From Bank

Frozen Bank Account

Credit Bureau Report

Constant Loan Application Rejection

When a BVN is blacklisted, you'll always get a constant loan rejection without any reason from financial institutions and money lenders that make use of the BVN as a means of verifying the creditworthiness of a borrower.

Account Restrictions

If you keep getting sudden limitations on some of the services available on your bank account, then chances are your BVN has been blacklisted. You may not be able to carry out some basic transactions such as withdrawals and transfers.

Online Banking Issues

In many cases, depending on the bank, when your BVN is blacklisted, you may likely find it difficult to make use of your online banking. When you experience that frequently then it is a sign that your BVN is having issues.

Notification From Bank

The bank will always reach out to you to inform you about any issue your BVN might have and the reason why it was blacklisted. Whenever you receive any communication from the bank, always take it seriously and rectify it as soon as you can

A lot of bank accounts are usually frozen when the BVN attached to the account is blacklisted.

Avoid Taking Loans From Loan Sharks

A lot of Nigerians are fond of taking quick short-term loans from all these loan sharks that display themselves as money lenders. Once you take a loan from them, they make it difficult for you to pay them and rely on them all the time. Once they notice you can no longer pay the loan, they send a signal to credit bureaus that you're a loan defaulter and a bad debtor. This action alone will lead your BVN to being blacklisted. Try any means necessary to avoid taking loans.

Avoid Any Form Of Fraud

Committing fraud can lead to your BVN being blacklisted. This means that when the bank finds anything fraudulent linked to your BVN such as scams, fake checks, and many more will lead to your BVN being blacklisted. So avoid it!

Don't Share Logins With People You Don't Trust

Sharing your sensitive information with people you don't trust can compromise your account and affect your BVN. Stay safe out there!

Conclusion

This is why you need to always keep track of the status of your Bank Verification Number at all times for you to carry out your banking activities smoothly without having any issues.

Lastly what I will advise you is to avoid all these loan apps. Most of them are loan sharks that put you in a miserable web of debt and send signals to the credit bureau that you're a defaulter or a fraud.
