While I'm not against the Federal Government assisting Haiti in its quest for redevelopment, I feel we need to sort out our own problems first. Charity begins at home. There are some local areas in Nigeria that look like disaster zones sad sad I've been to some villages in Nigeria that look like war zones and there is so much poverty in those places. I even wonder how people are surviving there shocked shocked Lets fix our own poverty infested towns and hamlets first before helping other countries. Cheers.

Business / Re: Man Finds $88 Billion In His Bank Account! by Shaunscot(m): 12:48pm On Apr 02, 2010
PapaBrowne:

If You Were a Billionaire for Five Hours

When Paul Fischer checked his bank account Friday night, he had a happy surprise. His balance had exploded to $88,888,888,888.88. A very lucky number indeed, and close to $89 billion.

Of course, the balance was a technical error by SunTrust Bank , which quickly fixed the problem. It also may have occurred in other accounts.

"You say, 'Eighty-eight billion, what can I do with that?'" said Mr. Fischer, who owns a jewelry concessionaire for Florida theme parks. "Maybe a handful of us could have brought down SunTrust Bank."

Mr. Fischer had other ideas as well. Before the problem was fixed, he asked a SunTrust rep if he could move the money to an interest-bearing account until it was reclaimed and donate the interest to charity. Total interest: more than $7.3 million.

The bank said no.

The money was stripped out of his account by Saturday morning.

"It's all gone. I'm poor again," he said. "I was a billionaire for five hours."

This kind of bank error happens frequently. But Mr. Fischer raises an interesting question:

Question for Nairalanders
What if, for five hours, you truly did have $89 billion?
What would you do with the money? The ground rules are that you would have to give the money back — and whatever you bought or invested with it — after five hours.

http://finance.yahoo.com/banking-budgeting/article/109237/if-you-were-billionaire-for-five-hours

If its in Naija, my disappearing act no go get part 2.With online transfers, ATM and cheques to move the money away.
Besides, them no go detect am in 5 hrs.
They probably will after a few days when I don bail go Libya/Cuba/Congo Brazaville (idea is to go to the last place you will be found).

If its in the UK or US,I'd just report it since I gotta return everything I've invested with the money.I cant make profit for bank to claim back.

Sports / Lagerback To Earn $1.8 Million Dollars by Shaunscot(m): 8:40am On Mar 03, 2010

Members of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports on Tuesday opposed the salary of about $1.8 million (N270million) approved for the new technical adviser of the Super Eagles, Lars Lagerback, saying the money was not appropriated for in the national budget.

The lawmakers also complained that the contract fee is too high for the 61-year-old coach since he was hired for only five months.

The members of the committee, led by Bello Sulaiman spoke at a meeting with the National Football Federation (NFF) and National Sports Commission (NSC) officials.

Sani Lulu represented NFF at the meeting while Patrick Ekeji represented NSC.

A member of the committee, Igo Aguma (PDP, Rivers) said the process of hiring Mr Lagerback did not follow due process, adding “All funds, all revenue, any money whatsoever, even sponsorship must be appropriated.

“The president did not say that you should not follow due process. Go and do a memo to your minister, the failure that is looming, when it comes, we will be looking for scapegoats. And one of the issues we will be looking at is how the money was spent.”

Responding, Mr Ekeji, who is the director general of the NSC, said the Presidential Task Force was given a presidential assignment and “that is what the PTF has done. The issue of appropriation can be done later.” Fulfilled official

On his part, Mr. Lulu admitted that the contract sum “was high” but added that it had to be done because of the World Cup competition in South Africa.

He said: “We have started a build up to form a national team. I am happy and fulfilled that the former coach qualified us for the Nations Cup and the World Cup with little resources.

“It is luck that gave us results. Nigeria is a blessed country, but our objective is not to depend on luck. I feel that five months contracts is enough litmus test for any coach coming to Nigeria.”

Dean doesnt want to say yes cause

1.Like iice stated - He has an issue with bowing to authority

2.He would have to kill his brother Sammie as its very likely both of them would say yes at about the same time

3.The Lucifer vs Michael fight is probably gonna also end the world (The reason he is looking for other ways to kill Lucifer)

I get your point but some movies need to come highly recommended before I go to see it.

There's a lot of information you can get about movies online + plot/synopsis.

I saw Gamer and I would have requested for a money back + compensation on wasting my time to see the movie if I could.

The problem with this particular movie is that I cant get any info from it anywhere(not even on Nairaland).

The only good thing Ive heard about this movie is that they dont shove the regulars (Jim Iyke,Ini Edo and Co) into your face.

Politics / Bode George Decieved By His Prophet by Shaunscot(m): 12:19pm On Nov 12, 2009
Jailed former Chairman of Nigerian Port Authority (NPA), Chief Olabode George is said to be furious with his prophet over his failed bid to secure bail last Monday.

Daily Champion gathered that his prophet had few days before the hearing of the bail application, prophesised that George would be released.

A reliable source close to him, said, George's Pastor (names withheld) also assured the embattled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain that God revealed to him that the judge was under spiritual influence and therefore had no option but to free him.

Daily Champion learnt that the prophesy made George to come to the court with his personal effects, thinking he would be released.

Just before leaving Kirikiri maximum prisons, George was said to have bade farewell to his friends in prison based on the assurance of his clerics. He also observed a fast on the day of judgement.

Our source said: "George was furious with his prophet and pastor. He refused to talk with any of them. In fact, he was disappointed in the outcome of the judgement and the failure of the prophecy."

It will be recalled that George and five others were on October 26 convicted and sentenced to two and half years in prison for abuse of public office and disobedience to lawful order of the federal government while he was the chairman of NPA.

The other persons are the former managing director of NPA, Aminu Dabo, Captain Olusegun Abidoye, Alhaji Abdullahi Aminu Tafida, Alhaji Zanna Maidaribe and Alhaji Sule Aliyu. They are currently jailed in Kirikiri Maximum Prisons, Lagos.

Ruling on the applications for bail after listening to the submissions of the counsel to George and others, Justice Oyewole, held that the convicts failed to prove sufficiently to the court that they were suffering serious health problems, which could not be attended to in the prison.

"There must be sufficient evidence from a specialist in that particular field of medicine in order to grant bail on medical grounds," the judge said.

On the issue of delay in hearing the appeal at the appellate court as canvassed by his counsel, Justice Oyewole said: "I will not comment on the likelihood of the duration of the appeal."

Daily Champion recalls that the convicts had on October 30, filed the motion on notice dated October 28, 2009 and brought pursuant to Section 10 and 51 of the High Court of Lagos State Laws 2003, seeking temporary freedom pending the determination of the appeal they intended to enter against the court judgment that convicted them.

Politics / How Ministers, ministry Officials And Contractors Defrauded The Nation by Shaunscot(m): 10:57pm On Oct 18, 2009
Nigeria's public transportation sector is one huge stretch of fraud involving multiple contract fraud cases and the connivance between contractors and government officials, a recent report on the sector released by the senate ad-hoc committee on transportation has shown.

From the indictment of past and present government officials, to the recommendation for the reinstatement of some, the report contains details of what its writers said was one of the nation's sprawling exhibit of official scam.

Between 1999 and 2009, the Ministry of Transportation, the report says, gave contracts for the construction and rehabilitation of 11, 591km of roads at a total cost of N1.7 trillion - about N87 million per km. With only 24% of the jobs done, close to 64% of the contract value has already been paid to the contractors.

In the ten-year period, work has been done on only 4,752 kilometres of roads for N633 billion. So far, the government has paid N47 million more than the agreed amount per kilometre.

The committee, headed by Heineken Lokpobiri, said officials within the sector, shortchanged the government of large sums of money, adding that, "there was no commensurate value for funds expended on the roads from 1999 to date."

Ayogu Eze, the Senate's spokesperson and a member of the committee, said the report took over a year to produce because it needed to be thorough and detailed.

During its 20-day sitting in 2008, the committee said it perused 532 written memoranda and listened to 248 presentations.

"We do not want sentiments this time, but the truth," said Mr. Eze, who incidentally moved a motion in 2008 that resulted in the investigation.

The committee said ministers and other senior officials of the ministries of transportation and Finance between 1999 and date, awarded multiple contracts for the same roads and paid for unapproved contracts.

"The members of the National Assembly have also introduced into the budget, road projects which are classified as state roads and are accordingly allocated funds for its implementation," the report said.

"Since such roads were classified as state roads, the Ministry of Works therefore refuses to so implement and the funds thereto were either illegally vired or returned to the treasury," it said.

The report also alleged that road construction contracts were awarded by the ministry without prior design.

It said contractors, who were usually selected on questionable grounds, liaised with the leadership of the ministries and reduced the scope of awarded contracts without an equivalent scaling down on the cost. In all cases, no one received any query from the internal audit. Now, the report has recommended that officials involved in the scam should be prosecuted.

Those the committee wants tried

The report has named some officials that should be prosecuted. They include ministers who headed the transportation ministry in the period under review.

Between June 2000 and October 2002, Tony Anenih headed the Ministry of Works and Transport. Adeseye Ogunlewe took over up till March 2006 and then Obafemi Anibaba, who stayed for just seven months, handed over to Cornelius Adebayo, the Minister of works until the end of Olusegun Obasanjo's tenure.

The four men, along with the ministers of State and Permanent Secretaries under them, have been recommended for prosecution.

The report made particular mention of a former Permanent Secretary, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who had served under all the ministers save for Mr. Anenih. He was said to have crafted a means of splitting contracts to sizeable amounts, to bring the values within the approving authority of his office. With this, projects with single appropriation were awarded by him separately. This is besides awarding contracts to non-existing companies, the senators said.

Mr. Baba-Ahmed was also alleged, along with Mr. Anibaba and Mr. Ogunlewe, of not accounting for N214 million derived from the sale of bitumen.

Repeated attempts over one week to reach any of the past officials for comments failed.

Mr. Anenih, made no response to the latest report, although he swiftly denied owing Spring Bank N2.605 billion, less than 24 hours after the Central Bank of Nigeria released the names of non-performing bank debtors on Wednesday.

Last Thursday, he denied any link to Mettle Energy and Gas Limited, the company which the central bank alleged was owing the bank. "I feel pained that people who have worked to the levels of command and leadership are made targets of press war, mischief and ridicule," he had said.

Ghost companies got the jobs

Against contract management rules, more than 46% of the companies were not registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission at the time of receiving their contracts, the report said.

"The bidding processes in the Ministry of Transportation were mere facades to fulfil all righteousness, as the contractors to be awarded the contracts had been pre-determined," the report said.

The senators, however, said the main danger was the relationship between the ministry officials and the contractors whom they are supposed to supervise.

In the past decade or so, the ministry had no fixed mobilization fee which, by law, should be 25%. Some companies were given 25%, while some took 12 % of the total contract cost.

The engineering staff of the ministry were accused by the report as corrupt and lacking in technical expertise. Yet they granted clearances to contractors when the jobs were far from finished. The report said officers who refused to join the gravy train were re-deployed to administrative department. It cited the case of a certain D. K Jime, whom the senators said should be recalled to his former job.

The report also slammed former officials of the Ministry of Finance and Bureau of Public Procurement (Due Process office), said to have provided funding and clearance for the unappropriated projects.

It also indicted the immediate past Minister of Transportation and Works, Diezani Allison-Maduekwe, who was said to have paid more than N1.2 billion into the private account of a company called Digital Toll Gates Limited, against the written advice of the Due Process Office

Thank you.
You chosen your player.

I guess you are right. Eto'o scores his goals against shitty teams while villa scores his against european powerhouses. They include the likes of liechtenstein, san marino and slovakia undecided undecided undecided.

What about France, England,Sweded,
Neither did Villa when he played for Real Zaragoza
Point taken.I was trying to drive home the fact that a better midfield provided more goals.

The last I checked, none of those players scored game changing goals in 2 champions league finals.

This CL Final, the dirty job was done by Iniesta.Eto'o finished it.My second point still.

Eto'o. Marginal difference between the two players.

Crucial goals for Cameroon were possible because of stupid african defenders.I mean - dont compare the nations cup to the EWuropean leagues.
Is it the likes of Guinea that Eto'o bullies that we want to talk about here?

In Mallorca - He never bagged up to 20 league goals a season.

In Barcelona - Last time I checked, they had Messi,Henry,Xavi,Iniesta.

Im not saying the guy is not good.He is a born striker.

There is currently a thread to discuss who is better between El Nino and Drogs.
Well, I have been arguing with my friends for quite a while about who is the better striker between Villa and Eto'o.
What some ppl fail to realise is that Xavi,Iniesta and Messi were very key to Eto'os' success.
Anyway, I wanna revive the argument now that Eto's has moved to Inter and Ibra is now in front of the best goal providers.
What spurned this argument was the several comments I saw on goal.com by some barca fans stating that Eto'o was better than Villa.

Goal.com also wrote an article on the debate

http://www.goal.com/en/news/1717/editorial/2009/02/19/1117060/spanish-inquisition-samuel-etoo-vs-david-villa-who-is-the-best-st

Anyway, here is a little Stat for each player

Samuel Eto'o

This Season
3 goals in 6 league games, 1 goal in cup,0 in Europe. Total - 4 goals

Carreer club total - 207 goals in 408 games

David Villa

6 goal in 5 league games,0 in cup,2 goals in Europe.Total - 8 goals

Carreer Country total - 52 in 33 caps,

Carreer club total - 212 in 414

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

5 goals in 5 league games,0 in cup,2 goals in Europe.Total - 7 goals

Torress over Divin' Drogba. the only advantage Drogba has over Torress is physical strength.

Torress over Villa too!

El Nino over El Guaje?
You must either be a bad coach ,you dont know didly squat about soccer or you just have the hots for Torres.

The only advantage Torres has over Villa is his height but that dont even mean Villa dont score headers.

Anyway, each man to his own.

Villa can only be compared to the likes of Eto'o and I'd even argue that one.
