The President Muhammadu Buhari’s Federal Government as reported by ngg.ng yesterday set January 31,2020 as a date for the reopening of the closed borders. Today, the president has however set conditions that Niger and Benin Republics must adhere to before the borders can be reopened for exports and imports to continue smoothly across borders. According to the Nation report, the Federal government has insisted that ECOWAS member countries must respect rules of origin, vowing that Nigeria will no longer tolerate repackaging of imported goods. The federal government further said that any imported goods from ECOWAS member countries must have 30% local inputs. The Buhari Federal Government through the Foreign Affairs Minister, Godfrey Onyema, maintained that goods imported for Nigeria market must be escorted directly from the port of member states directly to the borders. A Nigerian name Uduak-Joe Ntuk has been appointed by California Governor, Gavin Newsom, as Supervisor for Oil and Gas. Ntuk will be responsible for managing the Division of Oil, Gas and Geothermal Resources (DOGGR). Before his present assignment, he was elected into the Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees in California on April 10, 2018. Joe as he’s fondly called holds an A.A. degree in liberal arts from Long Beach City College, his B.S. degree in chemical engineering from California State University at Long Beach, his M.S. degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Southern California, and a certificate in global logistics from California State University at Long Beach. He has worked as professor at California State University at Long Beach in August 2015, and he began working as the petroleum administrator for the City of Los Angeles in October 2016. He also has experience working for Earth Tech, General Electric, and Chevron. He has served on the personnel commission at the Long Beach Community College District and has worked with the Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Board Youth Council. Dangote Oil Refinery Company is constructing an integrated refinery and petrochemical complex in the Lekki Free Zone in Lagos, Nigeria. The Refinery which is said to be producing 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) at completion is already attracting interests and attentions from all nuks and crannies. The refinery site was visited on Saturday by the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, in company of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC) General Managing Director, Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari. Speaking about what the Minister saw on ground, the Minister said, “ This is one of the impressive projects, if not the most impressive project , we have seen done by a Nigerian. It is a very encouraging development , and for us as government , we have also resolved to support this project fully . “ In terms of support , it will be in the areas of feedstock and off -take . Government will guarantee some of these things . But all these will come out of discussions with the President of Dangote Group. Once they put their needs on the table , we will look at them and see how to narrow the gap,” he Concluded. Following high increase of criminal activities in Benue state, the Nigerian Army has on Friday launched ‘Exercise Cat Race’, to effectly combat these criminalities in the state. The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, while launching the exercise in Makurdi, tasked the Special Forces to exhibit high sense of responsibility during the exercise. The Anambra Stàte Government on Friday announced the ban on movement of fuel tankers during daytime. It said such vehicles can only move at night within the state. The ban followed recent fatal accidents involving trucks carrying petroleum products. A tanker carrying petrol crashed in Onitsha two weeks ago. Its contents spilled into the drainage and caught fire, killing at least three persons and destroying shops and goods at the popular Ochanja market in the city. Another tanker accident happened on Thursday on the Onitsha/Enugu road but the fire service responded quickly and prevented the fuel from igniting. Shortly after President Buhari’s victory at the supreme court yesterday, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos state governor took to his twitter handle to congratulate the president on his applauding victory at the supreme court. The Lagos state governor described the judgment as “yet another landmark” in the country’s annals. The Governor said he received the news with “great joy”, noting that the Supreme Court’s judgment had not only consolidated the nation’s democracy, but also further strengthened the citizens’ belief in the judicial process. An Appeal Court sitting in Sokoto Wednesday afternoon has sacked Senator Abubakar Shehu Tambuwal of All Progress Congress (APC) representing Sokoto South Senatorial District. The presiding judge Justice Frederick Oho has returned Senator Ibrahim Danbaba(PDP) to the House of Senates thereby overturning the judgment of a Sokoto State Election Petition Tribunal on its judgment declaring Abubakar Shehu Tambuwal as the Senator elect representing Sokoto South Senatorial District in the 2019 election. Senator Ibrahim Danbaba (PDP) had Appeal against declaration of Senator Tambuwal (APC) by INEC and Sokoto State Petition Election Tribunal as senator elect to represent Sokoto South District in the 2019 National Assembly election. Senator Danbaba had appeal on the ground that, Tambuwal did not score majority of lawful votes and that he was not qualified to run for the election as his credentials bore Abubakar Shehu Arabu. Tambuwal had told the lower court that he lost his original certificates and had to re-apply for them from all the schools he attended. He also said Arabu was his grandfather’s name, while he adopted Tambuwal because he is from the town. The United Nations Secretary General António Guterres has appointed Mrs Damilola Ogunbiyi of Nigeria as his Special Representative for Sustainable Energy for All and Co-Chair of United Nations-Energy. Her appointment came after her extensive leadership experience and a track record of supporting energy access in Sub-Saharan Africa to these roles. She was the first woman to be appointed as Managing Director of the Nigerian Rural Electrification Agency. Ms Ogunbiyi succeeds Rachel Kyte of the United Kingdom as Special Representative, Co-Chair of United Nations-Energy, and CEO of SEforALL. However, Ms Damilola Ogunbiyi herself took to her twitter handle @DamilolaSDG7 to announce this to the general populace. Attempt by the University of Maiduguri Vice Chancellor and Management to increase the tertiary institution’s tuition fee from #25,000 to #129,000 over 400% increase was stopped by the National Assembly’s Senates. The stoppage of this UNIMAID tuition fee hike was contained in a statement signed by the Special Assistant to the Senate President on Media, Ezrel Tabiowo, the Senate’s decision to wade into the hike in fee by the institution was reached following a motion considered during plenary. The motion to stop this outrageous fee hike was sponsored by Senator Abubakar Kyari (APC, Borno North). He decried that “Half of the men in North-East Nigeria have received no education at all, and this figure rises to over sixty-one percent for women. It is imperative that schools in the North-East should remain of strategic national interest with overwhelming National Security importance,” Kyari said.
