I don't own a car, but as a Mechanic in Lagos. I would say you get either of the Land Rover vehicles. Except off course the LR2 (pls don't ask why). So its either the Range Rover or the LR3.

Chief, it looks like everyone says DON'T get the Land/Range Rover vehicles due to maintenance cost. Most people have said get Toyota or Honda (or Lexus/Acura). This you RR or LR3 suggestion dey make me scratch head.

sultaan: MDX is #1

Or RX330 #2

Honda and Toyota luxury brands

Is there a reason why you rank MDX and RX330 top 1 and 2?

Sorry I meant period of time of use...say like months or years

Oh I misunderstood you. The plan is to use it for 2-3 years continuously. Then after 3 years it will either be sold off or it will become my "rough terrain" vehicle while i buy a nicer SUV or a sedan.

Assume you didn't see JEEPS, but you got the message. From the SUV list which one are you advising him to buy?

SpaceAngel: Thank you so much for replying that comment. I don't know why some people do everything they can to find ways to bring negativity into something so simple. If the topic doesn't appeal to someone (e.g., grimadult) then ignore it instead of writing something negative.

Now to my real question... How long do you intend to use the particular vehicle?

lomomike: Which kind wahala be this na this This post looks like a rainforest with over growth and under growth. I can't even understand it because its very untidy. OP please I use the name of everything that's good to beg you, come and re edit your post, post images where applicable and remove those silly coloured fonts for they do injustice to your thread.

It's possible that the device you're viewing it on is not optimal for viewing this. On a regular laptop it is clear to read. Thanks for your input.

It actually depends on what you want. The infinity fx35 is a show ride but totally useless off road. The pilot is better ofroad but is said to be underpowered.

Thanks, that makes sense. Please check out my post at https://www.nairaland.com/1830369/need-which-these-jeeps-should. It's somewhat of a variant of this, but I would like to get some expert opinion.
Autos / Experts Please: Which Of These 10 "Jeeps" Is Best - Mdx, Lr, Ml, Glk, Fx, Toyota by shenny4uall: 5:09pm On Jul 26, 2014
Hello to our experts here in cars. I am looking for some advice on a vehicle I am going to buy and ship to Nigeria. I need your help in understanding which of these vehicles will be the best for Lagos. Please comment on each vehicle in your response (at least to whatever extent you know) so that I get a full picture of why you think it's good or bad. I'm looking for a car with the least amount of HEADACHE, so the criteria I care about are:

(1) Ruggedness. The ability to do well on those bad Lagos roads and even when it rains heavily
(2) Durability. A car that will not give me problems easily and will not have frequent issues
(3) Overall maintenance cost. If there is a problem, a car that will cost a reasonable amount to fix - in NIGERIA. So it means parts are readily available, good mechanics can service it without having to take it to an expensive dealership.

All the cars I'm considering (listed below) will be bought in the USA. They will go through proper inspection and maintenance before I ship them out of US. Please please avoid commenting if you don't have real experience. It's really confusing getting people who are just making opinions that are not based on real facts. Thank you my chieftains!

Note: The cars I'm considering are somewhere between 2005 to 2008 model, with less than 80,000 miles.

1. Acura MDX (2007)... http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/70/2007_Acura_MDX_--_NHTSA.jpg
2. Honda Pilot (2008)... http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/71/2006-2008_Honda_Pilot_EX_--_12-26-2009.jpg
3. Infiniti FX35 (2006-2007)... http://image.cpsimg.com/sites/carparts-mc/assets/roadtests/infinitifx35/images2006/leftfront.jpg
4. Land Rover LR2 (2008)... http://images.myride.com/images/no-transform/myride/promotions/images/images/08_Land_Rover_LR2_1.jpg
5. Land Rover LR3 (2006)... http://photos.ecarlist.com/pw/8v/YM/1P/21/YQ/9i/BD/5z/pD/Lw_640.jpg
6. Lexus RX330 (2006)... http://images.thecarconnection.com/med/2006-lexus-rx-330_100031514_m.jpg
7. Mercedes Benz GLK-350 (2007-2008)... http://images.thetruthaboutcars.com/2011/07/GLK350-front-quarter.jpg
8. Mercedes Benz ML-350 (2006-2008)... http://www.rabauto.com/vehicles/3071/images/3071-001.jpg
9. Toyota Highlander (2008)... http://photo.netcarshow.com/Toyota-Highlander_2008_photo_07.jpg
10. Volkswagen Touareg V6 (2005-2006)... http://images.gtcarlot.com/pictures/30558551.jpg

I will be very very grateful. So far, my research has been frustrating because a lot of people have opinions but when I dig deeper I realize they are just responding based on which car they like or what they think they might have heard someone say once.

Before I drop this $$$, let me at least get some expert advice. I know no one will be able to choose car for me, but I can choose myself if I have some tangible facts based on peoples' REAL experiences.

platinumricky:
1...... Land Rover 3 ( lr3)- the LR3 would hv won my vote if not for its reliability issues and pricey repair costs.

2...... Toyota Highlander- this cross-over is loosely based on the camry sedan and is just as reliable. front-wheel drive variants are best avoided due to the state of our roads.

3...... Dodge Journey- i doubt if chrysler's dodge division has a strong presence here, finding parts might be an issue here. Its good looking though.

4...... Acura MDX- this is just a re-skinned honda pilot with an upscale interior and an acura badge. Running costs are reasonable. Its a road-biased suv so off-roading is outta the question. My 2nd pick of the bunch.

6...... Jeep Grand Cherokee- i wonder which model year U̶̲̥̅̊ hv in mind, the latest generation (which shares its platform with the New benz ML) is good looking inside and out, and is a competent offroader. It might have d same issues with the dodge journey in nigeria.
7...... Toyota Sequoia- toyota's biggest SUV,its let down by its 4wd system.which is not as sophisticated as the landcruiser's and cheap looking interior. Parking it will be a chore..and running costs won't come cheap on this one.

8...... Nissan Armada- the 1st generation Infiniti Qx56 is a rebadged variant with a better looking interior. this V8 Powered behemoth has surprisingly gud handling dynamics. The interior could hv been better though. Reliability might be an issue to contend with as well (especially on the early production variants)

9...... Toyota FJ cruiser- shares the same platform with the 4runner,tacoma,landcruiser prado/Lexus GX,toyota fortuner and Hilux. Its offroad credentials are very good. But the oddball interior/exterior design won't appeal to every1, i particularly dislike the interior.

Recommendation: After considering the challenging state of our roads, truck based SUVs with live Axles such as the Lexus GX and 4Runner are better off here. The Lexus Gx has a better interior while d 4runner's looks rugged- the lexus will also appeal to the badge conscious snobs.

Hello Platinumricky, what do you think about Honda Pilot (like a 2008 model) and the Infiniti FX35 (like 2008 model)
