Career / Re: Doing A Phd Is Often A Waste Of Time, Says The Economist by shimol(m): 2:17pm On Oct 05, 2012
Awesome comments from most guys. I am 28 and currently running a PhD program in geophysics in UNIPORT. I make my living through photography n some other little biz (naija brouhaha). Howbeit, I have long identified what I want in life although I'm battling with the harsh conditions in this country. Yes I have flare for teaching but I ULTIMATELY want to solve scientific problems which will definitely put food on my table. Can't fold my hands and wait, so I choose to expand my knowledge. So my friends, dont forget to remember that 'Knowledge is Power'. Expand your horizon in your field and let no one stop your dreams. Keep Winning!!

@Tanimola, much love n respect!
Have learnt a lot, in same shoes with Raxxy. The fear of spending more money pushes me off from applying to US schools. I just have to save and write the exams. I have already started PhD in Geophysics here in Nigeria but I am not happy cos I have no job nor stipends. It is well. Thanks once more.

I'm a physicist, graduated 06. Although I am a jobseeker, I'm so satisfied with the professional. I have no fear abt 2moro. I just concluded a master's prog in Applied Geophysics in Nigeria. Sourcing for scholarship to start PhD in a foreign Uni where I'll be paid for researching. I'll advice you to think out somethin lil like biz that wil keep you moving while you job-seek, upgrade and diversify.

@OP, be easy wit your state of utter catalepsy and remember you're so blessed by God. My brova, choose d option that will give u joy and peace. Dont FEAR abt money, it wil surely come cos you've done your part. As for me, I am 27yrs old, I have ordinary 2.2 wit a very good masters degree in geophysics in uniport. I am enthusiastic n strong-willed. Although I'm still a jobseeker & a photographer, my no. 1 wish is 2go for a PhD. Ready 2start by feb 2012 in uniport for starting sake cos I dont really want 2b '100% Nigerian content' So I am still praying so hard to get a foreign PhD position. Fellow nairalander, how do I get this foreign PhD position wit my naija certs? God Bless y'all!
Business / Re: Does Travelling Abroad Truly Guarantee A Better Future? by shimol(m): 7:47am On Nov 10, 2011
After graduating in 2006, I took up a photographing job. And recently earned a master's degree in geophysics and still job hunting. Out of confusion I applied 4a bank job. On gettin 2d test venue I was booted out cos I just turned 27yrs old d previous week. I was so downcasted that I did something strange - I infused alcohol into my system that early mornin. Right now I am gettin ready to start PhD by january cos I cant stay idle. Aint killin 4a job like before. Just hustling to run away to where I'll pray little, eat well, live healthy, sleep with all eyes closed. Naija it too bad that jealous ones in our streets n villages wants to knack you AKPAKO!

My mom is a victim of this enigmatic/dis-heartening act. She just has about 3yrs to get retired. Due to this old freaky tribalism, she has no hope of being a principal at level 16. Now, she transits from Aba to Asaba in order to be accepted by Delta State where we are from, *sobs*,
