OliviaPope:
I was raised in a strong Christian household, got baptized when I was 12. My parents used to take me and my siblings to church every Sunday and for weekly services as well, we hardly missed any day. They made sure we were actively involved in church activities. They made sure to always remind us that heaven and hell were real, most especially hell.. In a nutshell, they did their best in raising me "in the way of the Lord"

The stories in the bible never actually made any sense to me but i knew not to ask questions or to have doubts so i kept silent. Each day I grew more skeptical about religion - Christianity. I wasn't totally convinced about the existence of non-existence of God. I was definitely not a Christian, I guess you could call me an agnostic, leaning towards atheism.

But i was still looking for answers, tried to be as open minded as possible. As we all know agnosticism connotes confusion and I needed to know where I stood, I became very uncomfortable being what I was - an agnostic. Christianity definitely wasn't the answer, been there done that.
So I started doing research, won't go into details about that though...

In the course of my research, I ran into an old friend, a Muslim, we exchanged numbers and got talking... He knew about my stance on religion so he brought it up.. Usually I would change the topic but i just thought " well fvck it".. He started teaching me about Islam, I was reading about it as well. It just made sense to me. As a Christian, I had to go on blind faith, but in Islam, there's room for logic. Islam welcomes doubts and questions that I could never ask as a Christian....

The Quranic description of a creator was much more different and the appeal to rationality and reason... So, after a long spiritual journey and a lot of learning, of course, I accepted Islam...

And I found peace smiley smiley

Just don't go asking those questions in Kano or Angwan Rimi o otherwise, you go sabi say khaki no be leather.

Islam....open minded indeed cheesy cheesy

Read what your sister had to state on the issue:

Madam Kemi Nkem Omololu-Olunloyo

BLOCKED: Almost no yorubas left on my FB page. I will not SUBSCRIBE to tribalism against the Igbos and #Biafra . We killed THEM and boasted about it. Gen Obasanjo, Col Rotimi, Gen Ibrahim Taiwo etc etc. Oluwole Rotimi was fired by Yaradua as NG Ambassador to USA for his Biafra comment to Ojo Maduweke NG Ambassador to Canada, OBJ still boasting "We will do to Boko Haram what we did to Biafra-OBJ 2015", Ibrahim Taiwo assassinated same day as Gen Murtala Muhammed on a Friday the 13th an evil day in 1976. I no longer spend the N20 note in Nigeria. These were not heroes. Ojukwu was the real hero we were told to hate. It took years for me to know that. My father was the only Yoruba leader at his funeral. Those yoruba youth who say they saw Tinubu there were hallucinating. Both Taiwo and MM ordered Nigerian Army into Asaba and killed 700 innocent civilan men, raped their wives, daughters and ruined the town. Google Asaba massacres on Wikipedia. U are on your internet. We as Yoruba youth were brainwashed into seeing them as HEROES. Today's youth must be told the truth. History is no longer in schools. It must be told. If you were not born 1967-70 and watched 3 years of the war on WNTV now NTA, u need to STFU. Those begging me on Twitter will be ignored. You are the one getting things twisted. Nigeria opened the theatre of war by bombing the border town of Gakem in Ogoja which was part of Biafra. By invading Biafra, Biafra was justified in invading any part of Nigeria including Bini, Ore and Lagos. There was no neutrality anywhere.

cheesy cheesy

Ok so Northern soldiers under the command of Mohammed Shuwa attacked Nsukka and Garkem from the north. Then biafrans decided to retaliate by attacking Benin and Ore to the west, Yet Awo and his kinsmen get to take the blame? Isorait cheesy

Since you believe the bolded, why are you still fixated on Awo and the Yoruba? cheesy

... If you want us to deliberate on this topic further, you must not insult or abuse. I was engaging you trusting that you maybe different. Now, if you read my earlier response very well you will know that I used "the area at which northern solders used to inflict the worst humanitarian disaster" to the eastern region. Those area u mentioned weren't the axis. For your information, hope you are aware of the Asaba massacre? Then you can deduce the rest.

Can you point out the insult so i can apologize?

Did any Yoruba man claim to have the gift of clairvoyance or fortune telling that they should have known what Murtala Mohammed was going to do in Asaba? What exactly are you now insinuating? That Murtala Mohammed should have been stopped from advancing as the Yoruba of Ondo state should have known he was on his way to commit a massacre in Asaba? Haba bros!! which kind bias be this?

Are you just out to nail the Yoruba irrespective of the facts of this matter? Shouldn't you rather blame ojukwu for dragging the mid-west region into a conflict they had vehemently refused to partake in the first place?

Once again, a war isn't a tea party my friend. You only know the beginning. You can never tell when or how it will progress or end

... My brother is like you don't get it. Which area/axis /region was the blood thirsty northern dominated army advancing from to wreck the worst humanitarian disaster in the eastern region? Maybe from sokoto or kano abi? When the eastern authority declared sovereignty which region /area /axis was Nigerian army marching from to kill and to destroy? Answer it objectively and get back to me.

cheesy cheesy You've allowed your assumptions to becloud reality. You know nothing about that war my friend. The tales you heard from home are not the facts of the matter.

Nsukka and Garkem (in ogoja province) were the first towns to be attacked by the advancing Northern army after the war commenced on 6th July. Garkem fell on 12th July while Nsukka fell on 14th July. If you know your geography very well, where do you think any army will advance from to conquer those 2 towns? wink

-------------------------------------------
Modified: You added this below after i posted so i'll treat it

No history book recorded that the eastern army was stationed in Benin, Ore or Lagos before the declaration of the Eastern sovereignty. So they came to those areas to stop the advancement of the blood thirsty Nigerian army into the deep eastern civilian population area. War is not good. War cannot settle political differences. Peace is always the answer.

The eastern army wasn't stationed in benin. After the fall of Nsukka and Garkem, the biafran army retaliated by pushing west into benin, then Ore. Ask yourself if that was the road to liberate Nsukka?

I agree with the bold. WAR IS NOT GOOD.

... Also using Ore, Benin and Lagos as a LAUNCHING PAD to commit the heinous crime against the eastern civilian population a good strategy? So the eastern army should keep quite and watch helplessly as your 'region is used to commit the greatest genocide on African soil'? So where is the test of your ACLAIMED NEUTRALITY. Let me lecture you on how neutrality works:Israel and Iran are arch enemy and the closest airspace that Israel can use to attack Iran is Saudi Arabia. But Saudi Arabia though not a friendly country with Iran is not allowing Israel the right to use her airspace sighting the principles of neutrality as it concerns Israel and Iran. This is what your region could have done. So your region was never neutral as regards to that ill-fated war.

You've come again with twisting facts abi? grin

Who attacked those places in bold first? Did you expect the Yoruba to remain neutral after the attack on their soil? Was the mid west not even preaching neutrality? why the attack on Benin?

This is why i keep telling the juveniles ranting about war on here that war isn't a tea party. You can predict the start of a war but you can never predict when or how it will end. All is fair in war and love said the sages. If you doubt, ask the USA why it used the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and has refused to apologize till date wink

I really need people's advice on how to handle this, as the next few weeks will either break or make my marriage stronger. My husband and I have been married for 5yrs now but we have been together for 11yrs. We have been through so much together, ivf procedures, miscarriages, failed businesses and the usual ups and downs in every relationship. He came to me last night after discovering he has an 18yr daughter who he has never met or did not know till yesterday. We are still waiting on God. Although this was before we met but does not make it less of a blow. I want him to do right by his daughter but I also fear for my marriage. I only just learnt about this literally 8hrs ago so I'm in shock and still trying to wrap my head around it. I need people's unbiased advice. Thank you everyone.

Yoruba elders say "ori omo ni yio pe omo wa si aye" roughly translated means "it's a child here that will invite another child to come join from heaven". That saying i believe was fashioned for situations like this.

Pls accept the child (if you're sure she's your hubby's), encourage your husband, accept his explanations and You'll be pleasantly surprised how positive the situation will turn for you.

I look forward to reading a testimony from you in a year's time grin

... I have already answered on the "where Awo made those comments". Now the Awo statements on its own is very very self explanatory to be able to answer your question on "the context or intent of making those remark"

Believe it or not, those Awo comments are the GAME CHANGER on which that war was fiercely fought, executed, to the detriment of the easterners. Awo SUBTLY instigated the northern dominated army to use any means possible to ensure that the easterners didn't leave Nigeria. This is why the infamous food blockade was devise to kill defenseless civilians so as to cowed the biafran army to submission. I am not qualify to judge Awo on his actions or inactions during that war, but I believe that HIS CREATOR has the final judgement.

cheesy cheesy cheesy here we go again

Anyway, below is the second paragraph of Awo's speech on May 1 1967 to the WESTERN LEADERS OF THOUGHT at Mapo Hall, Ibadan

.....Only a peaceful solution must be found to arrest the present worsening stalemate and restore normalcy. The Eastern Region must be encouraged to remain part of the Federation. If the Eastern Region is allowed by acts of omission or commission to secede from or opt out of Nigeria, then the Western Region and Lagos must also stay out of the Federation......

Pls what part of that paragraph is confusing?

Also, was attacking Ore or bombing Lagos also a part of fighting for independence? Anyway you're right on one point; His creator and our creator has the final judgement wink

Lagos state, qwara state and kogi doesnt have indiginous yoruba people in it
For example in lagos state, the first settlers in it are the binis and while qwara state and kogi which is in the middle belt is predominantly owned by the housas
for example, Yahaya Bello
The Executive Governor of Kogi State is an housa man
Abdulfatah ahmed, the executive governor of qwara state is an housa man,
And also the executive governor of lagos state is also said not to be from lagos state but from ondo state
And also most land in lagos state belongs to people from all parts and tribes of nigeria

You can deceive some people some of the time but you can't possibly deceive everyone all the time...

“Before the civil war started, the Yorubas said if Igbos are allowed to go, they too will go on the secession declaration.

“It was Chief Awolowo who said it openly and publicly; it was published in newspapers...
“The place Igbos left were occupied by Yoruba, particularly the civil service.

... Great respect to Awolowo.

Hmmm....thumbs up to you too for being gracious here grin

However, that his unpopular comments that "if the igbos are allowed to leave Nigeria by act of omission or commission, that the Yorubas will follow suit" is one of the galvanizing force that propels the northern dominated army to unleash the near genocide to the easterners so as to discouraged the westerners from leaving too. That Awo comments are uncalled for considering his earlier stance of neutrality. Maybe he regretted that statement he made hence his resignation after the war. Also considering other infamous policies against the easterners that he spearheaded.

Thank God you didn't see the bold as a promise to ojukwu as plenty of the crybabies from your hood do grin

Awo made that statement on the floor of the Western house of Assembly to the Representatives of the western region, NOT IN ANY MEETING WITH OJUKWU! and it was meant to urge the FG to look into the demands of the Eastern region. Awo was always going to leave the cabinet immediately after the war and he gave his reasons (very patriotic and responsible reasons at that) why he stayed back a bit.

On the issue of policies, what do have to say to his policy that ensured Easterners got their properties back when they came back after the war? considering that they lost all they had even in the SS?

A lawyer that handled the ministry of finance in a war and didn't devalue or borrow. Anyway, public servants were not so brazen in their criminality then like they are now. See him even talking so confidently about asset declaration before and after serving.

Also the reasons he gave for not leaving earlier were so on point. A responsible leader wouldn't wish to leave a disorderly office and books for his successor.

Have noticed that a lot on this forum even when he does something commendable. Once a news about him surfaces on this forum a lot of his brothers from yorubaland will start hauling insults at him for just no reason.

The most prominent one was the issue of the Bill pertaining to the activities of the marauding fulanis in the state. Fayose may be bad as they make us to believe but I see him as the most sensible and fearless leader in the yorubaland who cares so much for his people not the other one at Bourdillion selling his people to the highest bidder in the name of politics.
