When it was close to submission, our lawyer now said they didn't require bank statements for online application and there was no place to attach it. We weren't comfortable​ with it but didn't want to be arguing with professional since that was why she was employed to give advice. We followed her advice and didn't attach bank statements. It was later I now found out that there was a section on the online application to attach other documents where she should have made use of.

On the refusal letter they ticked personal assets and financial status. Other reason: You did not demonstrate that you and your spouse have sufficient financial resources to support one year of study and your presence in Canada.

I requested the GCMS case note and they wrote
reason for rejection:
Refused for lack of financial sufficiency.

My Dad was my sponsor. I didn't submit my own statement of account and hubby's own as the balance was not satisfactory so I wanted it to be clear that he was the one sponsoring my stay in Canada.

I used lawyer the second time but we all did the thinking together.

Let me share my good news with you. After a delay in my SOWP application in March 30 to be precise, I reapplied on May 10, 2017 and got notification to pick my passport yesterday evening. I was scared to go because of all the delay reported on this forum over the weekend. Went today anyway and saw that it was approved. I return all the glory to Jesus. Olowogbogboro has turned things around for my good. He can do it for you too if you believe. #ItHasEndedInPraise

Congrats on the medical call. I will advise you to go asap for the medical with a print out of the email you received from CIC as well as a photocopy of your passport bio data page. The email should serve as a proof that you've been asked to do your medical. So there is no need to worry or wait for a stamped passport page since you were not sent one. However, if you go for your medical and they refuse to do it for you, then you should contact CIC asap. Keep us updated on how it goes. Best of luck.

First how did she know the call is from Canada High Commission? Did they leave a voicemail? If yes, they should have given her instruction on what to do or whom to call. If not, then how is she convinced that they are the one. Lastly, she should relax as they cannot make any nasty decision without sending her a letter should they need additional information. She should either track her application online for updated status if she have linked it online; keep checking her email for any mail from CIC, or watch out for their letter in the post. At the same time she should keep her phone close to her especially during the working hours in case they call back.

Hi Iboloh,

As BE811APP mentioned in one of his comments that he received his passport as a means of identification for his medicals. This could be the same as your case. Just chill to know why your passport was dispatched. I pray though that it's for medical purpose. Best wishes.

It is true that SOA is not part of the documents for SOWP application and for those that submitted ​online, there is no place to attach proof of financial support except you attach it with the letter of explanation.

But my advice is that whether it is required or not, it is the applicant's responsibility to convince the immigration officer that you have sufficient financial resources to support yourself in Canada.

From my personal experience, my husband is currently studying a two year master program in Canada. We hired an immigration lawyer to help in processing my SOWP application. My husband and father are my sponsors and I sent their statements​ of account to the lawyer to include with the application. When she was due to submit, she told me that there was no need for statement of account as it was not requested. I wasn't comfortable with the idea of not submitting it but didn't want to be arguing with a professional. She then advised that they might request for it in the course of the application​. They never requested for the financial statements and my application was rejected based on personal assets and financial status.

Decided to share my personal experience so that you all can learn from my mistake and also, everybody's circumstances are not the same. Some might submit SOA and get it while some don't submit and still get it.
