Ajimobi’s Wife in London Police Net for Laundering N500m …..Oyo gov stands surety for wife ….Wole Olanipekun, 2 other SANs engaged
Posted on October 29, 2012 by NewsAXE

By Segun Ayedaade, Lagos
Junketing wife of the Oyo State governor, Chief (Mrs) Florence Ajimobi, has finally jumped into the net of London police authorities.
Her offence: she was found in possession of Pound Sterling and United States Dollars totalling N500million about two weeks ago.

Mrs Ajimobi was arrested by the Met Police during her 52nd trip outside Nigeria in the last 17 months that her husband became the chief executive of the Pace-Setter state.
The development came barely a few months after Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State was arrested also in London on money laundering charges and was held for about 26 days in the United Kingdom.

Governor Abiola Ajimobi has equally been out of the country for about 42 times on personal and official trips that have cost the people of the state fortunes in estacode and denied them the opportunity of a responsible government during times of sorrow, like the August 26, 2011 flood disaster that ravaged the state.

The governor’s wife was held for a few days in London before she telephoned her husband who immediately flew out to the United Kingdom to save his wife and his administration from the embarrassment that the arrest could cause.
NEWSLEAK gathered that the governor had to stand surety for his wife before she was temporarily released the weekend on her arrest.

To ensure that the news does not get to public domain, Governor Ajimobi had to lie that he was travelling to Taiwan for “an emergency business trip”, and headed for London to stand surety for his wife.

Met police authorities accept the surety-ship of a sitting high profile government official in cases of money laundering without which Mrs Ajimobi would have been declared wanted and Interpol sent after her.

When Mrs Ajimobi returned to Nigeria two Sundays ago, she avoided public gathering, never honoured any invitation and cancelled all previous appointments.
A community newspaper in London published the news of Mrs Ajimobi’s arrest with her picture lavishly used by the local daily.

NEWSLEAK is making effort to get the photograph and use same on this website.
According to investigations, Mrs Ajimobi is literally the human bank in charge of funds illegally deducted from the 33 local government councils in the state as well as the N110million security monthly security vote of her husband.

Rumours that Mrs Ajimobi is the courier for public funds running into billions of Naira allegedly stolen so far by the Action Congress of Nigeria-led government in the last 17months were reinforced by the several contracts awarded to Mrs Ajimobi, including the poorly executed beautification project given to her for N1billion of taxpayers’ money.

In addition, she has appropriated the State Action Committee on AIDS (SACA), which was hitherto under the purview of the Ministry of Health to her office and through this, she is sitting upon the $15million-Dollar World Bank funds released early this year for the control of AIDS in the state.

To wriggle out of money laundering and sundry charges against Mrs Ajimobi, her husband has engaged the service of three Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) led by Chief Wole Olanipekun.
Following the expiration of the week-long bail granted Mrs Ajimobi to prepare her legal team as the case will be charged t court soon, she left the country for London early on Sunday, October 28 (that is yesterday).

Governor Ajimobi, it was scoped, has been running from pillar to post for face-saving strategies against the damning incident.
He was said to have expressed determination to pay any price quoted by anyone that could be of help in preventing the scandal from becoming public knowledge as well as getting the “greedy wife” off the hook.

The governor, NEWSLEAK is told, will be travelling out of the country this week to stand by her wife.
It was also gathered that the senior lawyers are on their way out of the country for the legal fireworks in defence of Mrs Ajimobi.

NECO Embroiled in Fraud grin grin grin grin grin grin

By Aisha Wakaso

Besides the problem of saving students from mass failure, the National Examination Council (NECO) will have another problem on its hands, as members of staff seem at daggers drawn with management over allegations bordering on fraud and other abuses. The man in the eye of the storm is NECO Registrar, Professor Promise Nwachukwu Okpala.

In petitions written to President Goodluck Jonathan, the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and the Head of Service of the Federation, Okpala and the management of NECO have been accused of fraud, abuse of office and diversion of funds.

According to the petitions signed by Abdulrasheed Lawal Rabana, the Chairman of the council’s chapter of Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, Okpala and the Director of Finance and Administration Dr. Isaac Ishola, were said to have embezzled and misappropriated workers’ tax deductions and non-remittance of contributions to insurance scheme, among others.

Rabana in the petitions stated that workers’ contributions to the National Housing Fund were not remitted neither were premiums for insurance policies provided by Standard Alliance Insurance Plc remitted after deductions were made from staff salaries.

“We wrote a letter to the Federal Mortgage Bank on the 30th April, 2012 requesting contributions of our members in NECO and the reply which was signed by the state Controller, Mr. U. Y Garba, revealed several inadequacies, omissions and complete absence of schedules which should otherwise show details and number of individuals whose deductions were made by the council,” the petition stated.

Regarding the premiums for insurance policies, the union said it discovered that remittance had not been made despite the fact that deductions had been made. It said it made the discovery when it took up the case of one of its members who was involved in a road accident while on an official duty in Akwa Ibom State in 2008, but who had received no compensation till date.

A reminder was written to the registrar on September 23, 2009 for payment of the insurance claim and the recipient was directed in a memo signed by Mr. Garba Wakili to contact the Finance and Accounts Department for his cheque but all efforts to get the cheque failed.

Rabana further lamented that members of staff have difficulty in getting tax clearance from the Niger State Board of Internal Revenue, ostensibly because of the non-remittance of their taxes.

He said the Permanent Secretary of the board, Alhaji Bala Moni, said in a June 18 letter that remittances were not made to the board by the NECO management.

Moni had said NECO had a liability of about N163 million in tax remittance to clear.

But the union said that despite the non-remittance of taxes, the management of NECO on August 6 announced a new tax regime, which forced the staff to unionise to fight the increase.

It accused the management of embarking on a mass transfer of staff to zonal and state offices in the 36 states of the federation to frustrate efforts to query the new tax regime. Although most of the staff transferred are said to be those who joined the union, the management argued that it had to carry out regular transfers to avoid staff staying too long in departments, which might lead to racketeering.

According to Okpala, the exercise was done in the interest of the council and for the protection of the sanctity and mandate of the council, so as to protect the integrity of the examination body. But the union, citing civil service rules, insisted that even those transferred were not paid their relocation allowances.

The registrar was also accused of abuse of office where he was said to have awarded contracts for building the zonal and state offices in the 36 states to his brother, Mr. Ifeanyi Okpala.

The union also accused the registrar of employing people without due authorisation and called for an audit to be carried out on all employments since 2009 and for the ICPC to investigate the activities of the management of NECO and prosecute liable officers.

When THISDAY contacted Ishola on the allegations last Friday, he claimed to be in Lagos and promised to respond to the allegations later.

However, since then, he had failed to pick his calls or respond to text messages sent to him.

When the question was asked at a press conference heralding the release of the June/July 2012 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), the registrar bluntly refused to respond, insisting that he would respond only to questions bordering on the released results.

Shortly after the conference, Ishola and other staff members harassed THISDAY correspondent for daring to raise the allegations.

Politics / First Lady Patient Jonathan Had Fibroid Operation.....which One Do We Believe by skexy(f): 1:49am On Sep 09, 2012
shocked First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan

Doctors at a German clinic performed a surgical procedure on Patience Jonathan to remove uterine fibroids, SaharaReporters has learnt from a presidency source. The source added that the fibroids might be cancerous, even though he could not confirm it as German doctors are reportedly conducting further tissue testing.
Another source disclosed that President Goodluck Jonathan was planning a quick and secret trip to Germany to see his ailing wife. Mrs. Jonathan remains hospitalized in Germany almost eleven days after she was airlifted there from Abuja early last week.

SaharaReporters first broke the news that Mrs. Jonathan had been flown to a German hospital for medical treatment for "food poisoning", a condition for which she was reportedly misdiagnosed by doctors at the Presidential clinic in Aso Rock.
“The First Lady underwent surgery for the removal of uterine fibroids,” said our source who is close to the Jonathans.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported that Mrs. Jonathan had traveled to Dubai to have a procedure performed. She then hurriedly returned to Nigeria before she was airlifted to Germany for urgent medical care.
We could not ascertain whether she had tried to have the fibroids removed in Dubai, but other sources had disclosed that she developed an infection in Dubai that necessitated her return to Nigeria and quick evacuation to Germany.
Mrs. Jonathan’s trip to Dubai and Germany had been covered in secrecy before SaharaReporters reported both events.
Sources close to the First Lady had also told SaharaReporters that her closest friend, Bola Shagaya, had convinced her to undergo some form of cosmetic surgery to enhance her looks.
A source in the Presidency told SaharaReporters that President Jonathan was planning a secret trip to see his hospitalized wife in Wiesbaden, Germany. Mr. Jonathan is taking off for official visits to Malawi and Botswana, but our source said the president will fly secretly into Germany from South Africa to visit his wife before returning to Abuja.
