Hello everyone! I'm new here. I see many travel agents advertise that they can process Federal Skilled Worker faster. Is it really true? Are there some additional things they do or add to the application to make it faster? Do you recommend using an agent? I look forward to your replies. Thanks |

AbKing01: By implication, they think your purpose of going to Estonia is not to study. I wish all you applicants success. As an advice, please do not sell/give up your means of livelihood (job, business, apartment) in Nigeria until you receive your Estonian visa. The possibility of a rejection is high. Last year, the Estonian embassy in Cairo, Egypt, rejected about two-thirds of all Schengen visa applications. Even if you get a visa to study in Estonia, again the possibility of staying after your studies is low. Now you need an employer who is willing to sponsor your residence permit (PhD students excluded). Many employers are not willing to do this. And your stay (residence permit) is usually tied to that job. Only after 3 years of working can you qualify for the residence permit which does not require employer sponsorship (if the law does not change again). If you would like to stay in Estonia after your studies, I will advice you to start learning Estonian language as soon as you arrive. And finally, if you get a chance to study in Estonia, make sure to graduate within the nominal duration of your program (on time). 2 Likes 1 Share |

Lekzy06: I would not recommend moving to Estonia. Their new immigration/residency laws make it difficult to stay after graduation. Graduating from their universities no longer qualifies you for residency. Now you are required to find a job after graduation before you can apply for residency. And the employer must sign an undertaking/guarantee for you and send to Estonian police. Many employers are not willing to do this because of the legal implications. The years you spend studying there is no longer counted towards residency. As a bachelors or masters student, you can no longer invite your family member to live with you until you have lived for at least 2 years in Estonia. Going to Estonia is like gambling. There is a high chance your ticket will cut. The government is rolling out additional set of residency laws in January, 2023. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

Dear all, For those in need of updated information, I'll advice you to contact people who have recently moved to Estonia. Check recent posts and connect with them privately. Hopefully they will be helpful to you. As there have been changes to the processes of relocating to Estonia (visa, admission etc), it is difficult for those who relocated some years ago to give correct info. Still, if you have some general questions about living and working in Estonia, living with family/children etc, feel free to send me a message. 2 Likes 1 Share |

teekay22: These things have never been free. The "free wifi connectivity" you may have read on the internet could be those in public places like campus, cafes, shops, malls etc. There is wifi coverage all over Estonia! You need to pay for these services. But it is good that they are available. For those who live in University dorms, the cost of electricity, internet and water in the dorms are quite low (maybe 15-30 euro per month). But if you rent a private apartment, electricity bill alone could be as high as 100 euro per month during winter, depending on what you use it for - it is possible to cook with either gas or electricity and to heat your room with either gas, electricity or steam. These determine how much electricity you will consume. Average monthly water cost for a single person is around 5 euro per month. Average cost of cooking with gas is almost free per month. But if your apartment is heated with gas, the cost will be significantly higher Average cost of heating a room with steam (central heating) is probably around 30 euro/month during winter (depends on many factors including the type of house) Average cost of electricity for a 1 room apartment(excluding for use in heating) is around 10 euro per month. A 100/1000Mbps home or mobile internet (unlimited) cost from one of the major providers cost 27 euro per month. The digits sound scary, but don't worry they are affordable. These figures should serve as a very general guide. They are just my opinion, not official figures. 1 Like |

teekay22: Cost of living is affordable. Hostel rent is around 80-100 euro/month Food is affordable. 1kg of rice is around 1.6 euro Transportation is affordable. Public transport in Tallinn is free, in Tartu it is 7 euro/ month for students. There is always something for everybody. Food delivery business ( food couriers) has become very popular in Estonia. It is now one of the biggest 'employer' of labour. Almost everyone who wants to be a courier is employed! Income from it is enough to earn you a modest life. It is also possible to get jobs in IT, catering, cleaning, and other sectors. Blacks are not strangers in Estonia anymore. Some Estonians are married to blacks. Many blacks (including Nigeria) have become Estonian citizens. It is a safe country for all. 7 Likes |

Benyz: The years you spend studying as a PhD student is also counted as half. So if you spend 4 years in your PhD (rarely), it will be counted as 2 years. But when you graduate and have passed the Estonian language exam, it is possible to apply for permanent residency. The 5 years minimum stay in Estonia may be waived. Also newly admitted PhD students can travel to Estonia with their families. They do not have to wait for 2 years before inviting their families to live with them. That restriction applies only to bachelors and masters students. 3 Likes |

kakakii: Brief comment about Estonia permanent residency and citizenship: If you live in Estonia for at least 5 years and you pass Estonian language exam= Permanent residency (As a student, the years you spend studying is counted as half. So a bachelor student who studies for 3 years is counted as 1.5 years). Live in Estonia for at least 8 years and pass Estonian language exam and constitution exam = Citizenship So 5 years + Language = Permanent residency 8 years + Language + Constitution exam = Citizenship. (There are exceptions to the statements above for PhD students). If you are on TRP, your family will be on the same TRP as you when they come to join you. If you meet the requirements and become a permanent resident, your family will continue to get TRP (not PR!), unless they pass the language exam too. If you become a citizen, your under age children can become citizens too. But your spouse or any overage kid will not become citizens!. They have to fight for citizenship by themselves. They will continue to get TRP. If your spouse has a TRP that is not dependent on you, he/she will not be affected when you are deported. For example, she could get a job or start to study in a University, and apply for a new TRP on that basis. I hope these help. 4 Likes 1 Share |

adejoro1988: Yes PhD students going to Estonia need to provide bank statement for visa application, just like every other student. Remember too that you need to have a residence permit before you can receive the government support as a PhD student. It can take up to 2 or 3 months to receive the permit. |

chess07: How old are the kids? In Estonia, there are few (mostly with huge tuition fees) english speaking kindergartens and primary/secondary schools. Estonian language speaking schools (primary school to university) are free of charge. Estonian kindergartens charge very low tuition fees. If your kids are young in age (say 5 years or less) and you plan to settle in that country after your studies, they can attend Estonian speaking kindergartens. At age 7 (primary school age), they may be able to already speak the language. If kids are already in their teens, then your best bet would be to enroll them in english speaking schools. The english schools also teach Estonian to the kids. There are quite a number of supports that foreign families can receive in Estonia, to help them integrate faster. They differ from city to city. When you get there, you need to ask from the local government of your city. There is a ''settle in Estonia'' program for new arrivals. They could also provide a speech therapist or support persons for your kids in school, to help them learn language and integrate faster. 1 Like |

koonbey: Actually that proof of fund is for residence permit application. And it is 2018 figure. It should already be slightly higher in 2021. Take note that those figures are for students with families, not single people. So you cannot read off the amount for a single student from there. What I mean is that the expenses of a single person is higher than that of an adult person in a family. I hope you understand? English is my problem As for proof of fund for visa application, I am not up to date with that info. But as a guide, the minimum wage in Estonia is 540 euro per month. And remember you have quite a number of financial obligations to meet (tuition fee, flight, etc etc), so factor them all in. The higher the cash inflow and cash balance in your account, the better for you. |
