There is no doubt that casualization and the acceptance of what people wear, will continue to be a concern for the drycleaning community…now and in the future.

I think it is highly important to realize that across the country, our industry continues to see shrinking piece counts. Does that mean I think the industry is going away? No, certainly not, but what I am saying, is that the market is shrinking and we have to be more aggressive to get a bigger piece of a shrinking pie.

There is a quote by Christopher McDougall that says, “Every morning when a gazelle wakes up, it knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning when the lion wakes up, it knows it has to outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve.”

The moral of this story…it doesn’t matter whether you are the lion or gazelle, when the sun comes up, you better be running!

Don’t think for a moment that your competitor is not going to do everything they can to survive!

As a member of SLC, you are given many tools that will help you outrun the competition. It’s up to you to capitalize on the many benefits of your membership.

I keep a close eye on what SLC benefits our members are using…or in some cases, not using. I find it ironic that some members don’t even know SLC's suite of benefits!

If you are not taking advantage of SLC Effortless Social Media, our Garment Analysis, or the Drycleaning Encyclopedia and Stain Removal, then you are not positioning yourself to outrun your competition. Think about it… this is a wealth of information in the palm of your hand.
