TV/Movies / Donald Trump Warns Those Involve In Cryptocurrency Says Is ‘not Money by SmartWeb1(m): 5:44pm On Jul 12, 2019
Donald Trump expressed his mistrust of cryptocurrency Thursday, saying it was “not money” and warning that those wishing to join the trade would have to abide by banking regulations.
“I am not a fan of Bitcoin and other Cryptocurrencies, which are not money, and whose value is highly volatile and based on thin air,” Trump tweeted.
He added that cryptocurrency, whose electronic nature makes it nearly untraceable, could facilitate illegal activity.
Cryptocurrency has flourished sHe also warned Facebook and other companies that, should they launch their own cryptocurrency, they would have to abide by both American and international banking regulations.
“We only have one real currency in the USA, and it is stronger than ever,” he tweeted.
“It is called the United States Dollar!”
A high-level G7 working group is expected to produce a preliminary report on asset-backed cryptocurrencies next week when the group’s finance ministers meet in France.
“The more we, the international regulators, investigate this project, the more we have serious questions and potentially reservations,” said Francois Villeroy de Galhaut, head of the French central bank.
His American counterpart at the Federal Reserve also broached the topic Wednesday and Thursday when testifying before Congress.
“I think we need to do a very careful, patient, a thorough assessment of what the risks really are,” Jerome Powell said Thursday, adding that the size of Facebook’s social media network points to Libra’s “systemic importance.”
Some American politicians have called for a total freeze on Facebook’s Libra project.
Facebook has pledged to deliver a stable virtual currency that lives on smartphones and could bring over a billion “unbanked” people — adults without bank accounts or those who use services outside the banking system such as payday loans to make ends meet — into the financial system.
The ubiquity of smartphones means digital wallets for Libra could expand the use of banking, credit card services and e-commerce in developing nations. since Bitcoin launched in 2009. But when Facebook unveiled plans last month for its own virtual currency, Libra, the announcement rattled financial regulators the world over.
With more than two billion Facebook users, the social media giant’s cryptocurrency — which is slated for a 2020 launch and already has multiple partners — could completely disrupt the financial world.
But Trump said that Libra has “little standing or dependability.”

Politics / BREAKING: Appeal Court Dismisses Suit Challenging Buhari’s Qualification by SmartWeb1(m): 5:34pm On Jul 12, 2019
The Court of Appeal has dismissed a suit challenging the qualification of President Muhammadu Buhari to contest the 2019 general election.
A three-man panel led by Justice Atinuke Akomolafe-Wilson threw out the suit on Friday for being incompetent.
The court agreed with counsel to the President and the All Progressive Congress (APC) that the suit was statute barred, having not been filed within the mandatory period stipulated by the law for a pre-election matter to be filed.
Applicants in the suit – Kalu Kalu, Labaran Ismail and Hassy El-Kuris – had approached the appellate court to nullify and set aside the judgment of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court which declined to hear their suit instituted to challenge the educational qualification of President Buhari before the conduct of the 2019 general election.
They told the court that President Buhari was not educationally qualified to have stood for the presidential poll.
According to them, his required certificates were not attached to his form CF001 submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for clearance to contest the presidential poll.
But Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court threw out the suit on the grounds that the question regarding the certificate of a candidate was a pre-election matter.
He had held that the suit filed by the appellants did not meet the constitutional requirements for filing such a suit.
The judge, thereafter, threw out the suit for lacking in merit.
When the matter came up at the appellate court on Friday, the panel of judges affirmed the position of the lower court.

Politics / INEC Cancelled Presidential Election Results In Pdp’s Strongholds In Kaduna by SmartWeb1(m): 2:53pm On Jul 11, 2019
INEC cancelled presidential election results in PDP’s strongholds in Kaduna – Atiku’s agent

Iszzyblog, Abuja
John Makama, who served as the Peoples Democratic Party’s collation agent in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, during the February 23, 2019 presidential election, said the results of the poll in the stronghold of his party were cancelled by the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Makama was testifying before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja as the 24th petitioners’ witness in the case filed by the PDP and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
The petitioners are, by their petition filed before the Justice Mohammed Garba-led tribunal of five judges, challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari and his All Progressives Congress at the poll.
The petitioners’ 24th witness alleged in his evidence-in-chief that the election in Saga Local Government Area of Kaduna State was marred by illegal cancellation of votes.
Under cross-examination by the respondents’ counsel, Makama said the results were cancelled in his presence at the local government collation centre by the INEC’s local government collation officer and not at the polling units where the election took place.
‎He said, “It is an aberration that results from wards and polling units were cancelled.
“The election held at the polling units, but the cancellations happened at the local government collation centre.
“The results from the petitioners’ stronghold were illegally cancelled.
“It is an open fact that political parties have stronghold where they are dominant.”
He said of the 11 wards in Sanga Local Government Area, the APC was only strong in three.
Under cross-examination by Buhari’s lawyer, Yusuf Ali (SAN), Makama could not find an answer when told that cancellation of results in Sanga Local Government Area was not part of the case presented by the petitioners in their petition.
