Health / My Hiv Panic Journey by smithmoi: 1:18pm On Jul 30, 2020
Hello everyone, i'm James, 27 years old, please pardon me as im no much of a writer.

Two years ago, i made a grave mistake with the opposite sex, more like a one night stand, never met her again, after that meeting, i was so scared i must have contracted maybe HIV, scared.

Two weeks later, i developed constant headache, you know that Head ache that can make you wanna cut off your head, later fever came in, as time went sore throat came along.

I went online, read signs and symptoms of HIV, and it was exactly same thing that was happening to me as of that time. Wow i was sacred and accepted my fate. But was scared to get tested.

Months passed, rashes came, it became so bad all over my body, my chest i would scratch till i bleed, still was scared to go get tested. I assumed i was positive, i decided to live with the disease, i felt when i get tested, i might die faster after seeing positive result.

During the lock down, the head ache came again, this time stronger than before, the rashes came all over my back, sore throat as well, joint pains, bums on my penis. Wow i was like God, help me through this journey, i used drugs, dustin powder and it faded away.

All this while i never discussed my fear with anyone, i kept it to myself.

Last week, fever came. The father of all rashes started again on monday, this time my penis, my chest, my face, my arms, legs everywhere. No i chickened out, i was like i needed to start the HIV drugs, fear again i went to the pharmarcy, they said it might be skin issues, they gave me drugs but it became worse.

On Tuesday, the whole stuff became unbearable and i ran to the hospital. The said they would run test on me, behold first test was HIV, i chickened out, i told them i would go withdraw money to pay for it.

I drove straight to another lab entirely. Because i was with a friend, i went to the lab like, today na today, let me see this result before the hospital take it. The lab attendant took my blood, said it would be out in 15minutes, the worst 15minutes of my life, my fear of two years ago will manifest today. He came out 15minutes later, said 5minutes more, i almost fainted.

Five minutes later, brought the results sealed, asked if i wanted to see a doctor, i said nope, just the result. He handed it to me i tore it open.. I saw NON-REACTIVE, i was like, what does this mean, he said its negative, i was sweating, i almost fainted, i asked again..NEGATIVE? he said yes.

I drove off, ran to another lab, this lab asked i waited 30 minutes, paid 1,500 they came again NON-REACTIVE. i went on my kneels to thank God all mighty, i was so scared to my bones.

I assumed i had HIV in two years, and lived like a victim, i returned to the hospital, this time a bold man, they ran the test and said i had microflera something something sha. And started treatment, and said i had chicken pox.

My joy knows no bounds.

Im saying this to encourage you, dont assume anything, go get tested if you feel some kinda way, dont assume when you read from google.

Make sure you use protection always, or better still Abstain. If you have been raped, please do all necessary test. Its better to know what the issue is than to live in fear of the unknown.

Thanks for reading

Crime / Lady Arrested By EFCC For N1,600 Misunderstanding Shares Her Story. by smithmoi: 4:21pm On May 08, 2020
Ato Mnena Anita, whose arrest led to an outcry on social media, has spoken up after she was detained and charged to court over a misunderstanding with a customer, who happens to be an EFCC staff.

Mnena said she was picked up at her business place, Star Shawarma on Kashim Ibrahim Road Makurdi, the Benue State capital, on May 6, 2020.

She explained that the misunderstanding began after her accountant called to complain that the transfer of N1, 500 made by a customer who happens to be a staff of the EFCC for the delivery of Parfait Yorghourt was not received.

Unknown to them, the EFCC staff had made a transfer of 1,600 Naira but they were expecting 1,500 Naira from her and thought the payment of 1,600 Naira was from another customer.

When they eventually discovered the error, they called the EFCC staff to apologize. However, according to Mnena, she was told at the EFCC Makurdi Zonal office that the calls embarrassed their staff and is very bad to her image.

Speaking to Benue state activist, Ukan Kurugh, Mnena explained that on 9th April, 2020, a staff of the EFCC Zonal office in Makurdi ordered for Parfait Yorghourt. The order was for N1,500 and delivery fee of N100 was charged by the agent, bringing the total cost at 1,600 Naira. The product was delivered the same day. The Star Shawarma Cashier on duty billed the transaction for One Thousand Five Hundred Naira (1,500). The company was, therefore, expecting One Thousand Five Hundred Naira alert and not N1.6k.

"I was kept in a cockroach infested room with my asthmatic condition" Star Shawarma owner narrates her ordeal with EFCC after she was arrested over N1,600

April ended and came May. On 6th May, 2020, Mnena was called to her spot that her attention was needed to verify the problem of One Thousand Five Hundred Naira transfer. Upon getting there, she was told that the transfer was done on 9th April; that a lady (customer) ordered for Parfait Yoghourt, sold for 1.5k and it was charged 1.6k -100 delivery fee.

Mnena explained: "All along they were expecting a transfer of 1.5k and not 1.6k. It looks the customer was familiar with the person who did the delivery and the person who made it. And so they kept reminding her about the transaction.

The customer called the accountant two days ago that she made the transfer and they are saying they have not seen the money? The accountant said he will verify. Meanwhile, the product was delivered on that 9th April.

"Meanwhile, my accountant had brought to my notice that a customer has been calling on 1.6k transfer. I told them to call Stanbic IBTC, our bankers to confirm. Stanbic said there was no transaction. We decided to check our Access Bank account and Access confirmed the transaction. I was briefed and I said we needed to call the customer and apologize.

"The accountant was jittery that he has been threatened of arrest and I opted to call myself. I called the customer with my number. She did not pick. The accountant called immediately and she picked. I collected the phone and pleaded with her that there was a mix up of 1.5k and 1.6k and I apologized for the error. But she insisted that the accountant must report to EFCC office. I asked her why and she said I had no right to ask why the accountant would have to report to their office and that when they come for us we will know.

"I said okay, we have apologized and don't know what else to do. Barely 10 minutes later I saw over 10 armed men in a bus. I was seated there. None of them spoke to me. They only said they were shutting down the place. At that point, I told them that we are learned persons and should act as such. They came without saying good afternoon, which I think is not the proper thing to do. At that point, they identified themselves. When I asked for warrant of arrest one of the officers asked me why dare I asked for warrant of arrest? But I thought it was the right thing to do when going for arrest.

So, we left for EFCC office. This was about 3pm to 3:30pm; we were taken straight to the Zonal head office; myself, my manager and another staff. The zonal head asked for explanation. My manager first spoke, then I spoke because the other staff was not in the know when I called to apologize.

"In the course of my explanation, I told him (the Zonal head) that we were afraid of reporting to their office because we were threatened. He then asked if I was trying to insinuate that she (the customer) is trying to use her office to intimidate us? He went on that I was stupid if I am thinking in that line and it was an insult to the EFCC. He repeated same thing and said I should be detained for that. He said what we did was very bad: That we embarrassed their staff by calling her to claim we hadn't got an alert which is very bad to her image. There and then, I apologized again, that I was deeply sorry if my explanation angered him.

"They asked me to write my statement but I pleaded to be allowed time to write because I couldn't write my statement immediately; I was shivering and they gave me 30 minutes. I was able to write my statement, after the 30 minutes, after my manager had written his, the third person did not write because he was not in the know of anything. The manager and the third person were later released. I was detained and later released at about 9:30pm or 10:00pm and asked to return the next day (Thursday, 7th May) at 10am, which I did with the manager."
Mnena said she reported at the EFCC Makurdi Zonal office on the morning of May 7 and she was interrogated, among other things. She was also asked why the news made it to social media.

She said: "I told them that yesterday I did not have access to my phone (after the arrest) and my people because I went home late; I had severe Migraines and went to bed. This morning I wake up late and rushed there without phone. So it couldn't have been me posting things on social media.

"They seized my phone yesterday and I had to wear bathroom slippers and was kept in one cockroach-infested room even with my asthmatic condition."

Mnena adds that she did not know the customer involved personally.

She said: "All along, we kept talking about a customer's transaction. I didn't know if it was a guy or a lady until I called to apologize."

Mnena says her ordeal is not over. She has been told to expect a call from the anti-graft agency should the need arise. Also, her manager has been asked to report back on Monday for further interrogation.

Mnena, who was charged with attempted fraud following the incident, said: "I feel so very bad, more so, that I have never had any criminal case against me; no not attempted fraud."

Politics / Court Orders FG To Pay N1m To Lawyer For Disrupting Revolutionnow Protest by smithmoi: 3:44pm On May 04, 2020

Health / Goats and Paw Paw test Positive to Covid-19 in Tanzania. President Probes. by smithmoi: 7:30pm On May 03, 2020
Tanzanian president, John Magufuli on Sunday ordered a probe on the country’s coronavirus testing kits after samples taken from a goat and pawpaw tested positive.

Speaking at an event in Chato in the northwest of Tanzania, Magufuli said the COVID-19 testing kits which had been imported from abroad had “technical errors”.

The president said he had instructed Tanzanian security forces to check the quality of the kits, who then randomly obtained several non-human samples, including from a pawpaw, a goat, and a sheep, but had assigned them human names and ages.
According to him, these samples were then submitted to Tanzania’s laboratory to test for the coronavirus, with the lab technicians left deliberately unaware of their origins.

President Magufuli later disclosed that samples from the pawpaw and the goat tested positive for COVID-19, adding it was likely that some people were being tested positive when in fact they were not infected by the Coronavirus.

“We extracted a sample from a goat which turned positive. This tells you that something is not adding up,” he stated.

“Are we now supposed to quarantine goats and fruits?” President Magufuli questioned.

Politics / Doctors In Ogun To Embark On Three-days Warning Strike Amidst COVID19 Pandemic by smithmoi: 3:31pm On May 03, 2020
Doctors in Ogun to embark on three-days warning strike amidst COVID19 pandemic

Doctors in Ogun to embark on three-days warning strike amidst COVID19 pandemic

Resident doctors at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, Ogun State, says they will be embarking on a three-day warning strike starting from on Monday May 4th.

In a letter jointly signed by the President and General Secretary of the Association, Popoola Mutiua and Osundara Tope, respectively, the doctors said they decided to embark on strike to demand for appropriate remuneration for doctors in OOUTH as they battle the COVID-19 pandemic.

The aggrieved doctors say the association would review the response of the government after the three-day warning strike.

The letter in part reads

“We have a human face and we know people are the basis of our practice as medical professionals. We shall, therefore, exclude our members working at COVID-19 isolation centre from joining the strike action. They shall not take part in the strike. Following the three-day warning strike, we shall review the government’s response and appropriate action shall be taken thereafter.

The whole house is very much displeased with the government on issues that bother on our agitations and welfare. We are perturbed with the non-committal response from the government despite repeated calls and letters to get their attention.

There has been no commitment whatsoever from the government on the issue of Appropriate Remuneration, Entry Level, New Minimum Wage, Hazard allowance and Life Insurance for our members. No response to the letter written by the National Body of the Association of Resident Doctors notifying Ogun State Government on the aberration concerning the Appropriate Remuneration to her members at OOUTH.

Despite the inadequate response of Ogun State Government to the Health risks confronted by our members during this COVID-19 pandemic, our members went ahead to continue their work diligently in their various departments and at the Isolation Centre. We were taken aback by the arbitrary change in only hazard allowance to be given as COVID-19 Special Hazard Allowance to all health workers. The 200 per cent increase in hazard allowance is just an increase from N5000 to N15,000 for just the month of April.”

Foreign Affairs / North Korea Fires Gunshots Towards South Korea In 'show Of Strength That Kim Jon by smithmoi: 2:48pm On May 03, 2020
North Korea fired multiple gunshots towards South Korea after Kim Jong-un resurfaced amid speculation he had died.

According to reports, North Korean troops fired towards the South in the Demilitarized Zone dividing the peninsula early on Sunday, prompting South Korean forces to retaliate by firing back.

Gunfire broke out between the two nations when North Korea fired a series of shots towards a guard post in South Korea that borders the North at 7.41am local time, the South's Joint Chiefs of Staffs said.

The JCS in Seoul said in a statement today that the guard post was hit by several shots from the North.

The gunfire exchange between the two countries comes a day after North Korean state media reported that leader Kim Jong-un had made his first public appearance in nearly three weeks intense speculation about his health.

South Korea responded by firing two shots back towards North Korea, the JCS said.

'We are taking actions via inter-Korean communication lines to grasp the detailed situation and to prevent any further incidents,' the JCS statement read.

'And we also maintain a necessary readiness posture.'

Our military responded with two rounds of gunfire and a warning announcement,' the JCS said.

The South Korean military later said the North Korean gunshots were 'not deemed intentional', according to the Yonhap news agency.

In a lengthy briefing held later on Sunday, an official at South Korea's JCS said the gunshots did not seem a planned provocation.

'In absence of vision [for the target] and in the fog, would there be an accurate provocation?' the official said.
It is not clear why the rare gunfire between the two countries erupted, but no injuries have been reported on both sides, but Choi Kang, vice president of the Asan Institute for Policy Studies, said he believed the gunshot could have been planned to show that Kim was still in charge of the North Korean military.

'Yesterday, Kim was trying to show he is perfectly healthy, and today, Kim is trying to mute all kinds of speculation that he may not have full control over the military,' Choi said.

'Rather than going all the way by firing missiles and supervising a missile launch, Kim could be reminding us, ''yes I'm healthy and I'm still in power''.'
