Fresh Facts Rubbish Claims That Lagos Dep Gov Office Spent N2.017bn For Rechargeable Fans + Letter That Exonerates Hamzat

Reports circulating online that the Office of the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, spent N2.017 billion for the purchase of rechargeable fans, rechargeable lights and fridges have proved to be false after all.

Investigations by this medium revealed that the state Public Procurement Agency made mistake in the figures it posted online on the budget performance from the Deputy Governor's Office.

An online medium had reported over the weekend that the Deputy Governor's Office has spent the sum of N2.017 billion for the purchase of the aforementioned items.

The online medium quoting figures posted on the website of the state Procurement Agency, also reported that there was a provision for the payment of N30 million monthly to the Wife of the Deputy Governor for outreach indigent programme and another N30 million monthly for empowerment programme by the Wife of the Deputy Governor.

But this medium can exclusively revealed that all the information posted by the online medium was false.

Reacting to the erroneous publication via a letter, Tola Ekemode, Director of Finance and Accounts, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Deputy Governor, called on the agency to correct the erroneous publication on its website.

Describing the information as untrue, fake and malicious, Ekemode in the letter dated Monday, 20 November, 2023, to the Director General of the state Procurement Agency, stated that the figures in possession of the Deputy Governor's Office on the issue were different from the one posted on the website of the agency and the need to correct the error.

According to the letter, the Deputy Governor sought and got approval of N2.017 million and not N2.017 billion for the purchased of the rechargeable fans, rechargeable lights and fridges and contract was duly awarded in regards to the fund approved.

The letter also stated that the N30 million each quoted for the Wife of the Deputy Governor for Outreach for the Indigent and Empowerment programme respectively were annual and not monthly as wrongly put on the website.

According to Ekemode, the N30 million translates into N2.5 million monthly each for the Outreach programme for the Indigents and Empowerment programme of the Wife of the Deputy Governor.

The letter urged the Procurement Agency to correct the erroneous information and put the records straight.

Mother, 52, Marries 22-yr-old Adopted Son, 8 Years After Adopting Him At Age 14

A mother has shocked welfare workers after marrying her adopted son who is 31 years younger than her. Musician Aisylu Chizhevskaya Mingalim, 53, married her 22-year-old adopted son, Daniel Chizhevsky on 20th October in a ceremony that was held at a restaurant in Kazan, Tatarstan Republic, Russia.

She adopted Daniel after meeting him at an orphanage where she gave singing lessons when he was aged just 13, according to local media.

After marrying Daniel, who she began raising since he was 14, Mingalim and her new groom began making plans to flee their country.

Now child welfare officials have seized five other adopted children from Mingalim’s care, four girls and one boy.

But Mingalim is fighting the move, complaining that some of her adopted kids have been put back into care homes while others have returned to family members.

Mingalim also has a biological son from an earlier marriage. She told local media her romance with Daniel started after she took him home from the orphanage. Mingalim said: “Our relationship is perfect. We can’t live without each other. We are on the same wavelength.”

Local media reported that she began adopting children after encountering orphans during a film project with a Tatarstan TV station.

Now she plans to flee Tartarstan and wants to take her new husband and get back her adopted children to take them to Moscow “where they can live freely”.

Wanted ex-FCC Staff Haruna Kolo Begs For Forgiveness, Sends Emissary To Dankaka

Haruna Kolo, the ex-Chief of Protocol and ex-IPPIS Desk Officer at the Federal Character Commission (FCC) who has been declared wanted on the order of the House of Representatives Committee probing alleged job racketeering in the Commission and some other government agencies, is on the street begging for forgiveness.

Kolo had attended the sitting of the Committee once making unsubstantiated allegations against the Chairman of the Commission, Dr Muheeba Dankaka.

Subsequent sittings of the committee and further revelations by victims of the job scam perpetrated by Kolo exonerated Dr Dankaka and since then Kolo has been on the run, despite several invitations by the Committee to appear before it and substantiate his allegations.

The only time he appeared, Kolo admitted on camera that indeed he collected money from applicants to give them jobs but made allegations which were not substantiated against the FCC Chairman.

Some applicants whom he collected money from also appeared before the Committee and confirmed that they paid money to Kolo but exonerated Dr Dankaka, noting that her name was never mentioned in their dealings with him.

Subsequently, after shunning several invitations by the Committee to appear, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon Yusuf Gagdi issued a bench warrant for his arrest. Since then, he has been on the run.

However, investigations by this medium have revealed that Kolo is criss-crossing some states seeking the attention of some important personalities to help him beg Dr Dankaka over his unsubstantiated allegations against her at the Committee sitting.

"He has been running from pillar to post begging for forgiveness from Dr Dankaka," a very close source told our correspondent.

According to the source, some of the personalities Kolo had visited to plead on his behalf were His Royal Highness, the Etsu Nupe and other important people.

"He had even gone to the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) seeking the faces of Dankaka's former lecturers who he knew can speak to her. These lecturers are close to her when she was in school and are still in contact with her. Very senior academics who she respects a lot," our source added.

Our source was however surprise that despite being declared wanted by the police, he still walking the streets free.

"He should be arrested to answer to his sins. He wanted to damage the image of the woman. Only God exonerated her. This same man is here begging! Begging for what? He should arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law," our source said.

Further investigations by this medium have revealed that indeed, Kolo has been confessing to people that he was used by some Commissioners in the Commission to discredit Dankaka.

"He confessed to the people he was seeking their help to beg Dankaka that he was used by some Commissioners in the Commission to make the unsubstantiated claims against her. The Commissioners have now abandoned him. He's on his own, but he must answer to his sins," another of our sources in the Commission said.

Indeed, investigations by this medium revealed that, a day before he made his inglorious appearance at the Committee sitting, Kolo was seen in the company of three FCC Commissioners, confirming his confession that he was used by some Commissioners in the Commission.

Our correspondent learnt that Kolo has been advised to return all the money he collected from applicants to them as a first step to seeking forgiveness.

"He should return all the ill-gotten money to the people he collected them from. This is the first step towards forgiveness for him. He should then apologised publicly to Dankaka in particular and Nigerians in general," sources told our correspondent.

As at the time of going to press, this medium has not been able to reach Dr Dankaka to confirm whether or not she had received emissaries from Haruna Kolo.

Her aides said she was at a meeting when we called the office and they were not willing to release her phone numbers without her permission.

Rasak Ajala Hosts 247 Graduates Of Odiolowo/Ojuwoye Summer Tech Boot Camp, Rewards Best Students

The secretariat of Odiolowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area on Town Planning Way, Ilupeju was agog on Wednesday, 30 August, 2023 as parents and students who participated in the Summer Tech Boot Camp organised by the council gathered to receive their certificates.

A total of 247 students, both in the primary and secondary school categories participated in the three week programme which took place at the ICT Centers in the council area.

The two ICT centres, located at Ajisegiri Street in Ilupeju and Daengoro area of Ojuwoye, was established by the Rasak Ajala led administration to train students and youths in the council area proficiency in computer so that they can be updated with ICT knowledge that will make them contribute meaningfully to the society.

A total of 247 students participated in the latest edition and the two best students: in the primary and secondary school categories were each presented with a laptop by the Council Chairman, Honourable Razaq Olusola Ajala.

The three week programme focused on learning proficiency in the following computer programmes: General Computing for the primary pupils and General Computing with Microsoft Office Suite for the secondary school students.

The packages are meant to provide the participants practical experience in computing fundamentals and equip them to excel in the tech field aligned with their generation in Nigeria.

Speaking at the event, Honourable Ajala harped on the importance of computer knowledge and usage in modern age, noting that the world has become a compressed global village where communication and interaction flows freely within seconds no matter the distance.

According to him, the need to bridge the ICT gap among students and youths in the council area was responsible for the establishment of the two ICT centres by his administration.

"The establishment and equipping of the two ICT centers within the LCDA were motivated by the need to promote computer education among our people, particularly the youth.

"One of the most significant advantages of computers is the enhanced efficiency they offer.

"Computers can process information much faster and with greater accuracy compared to humans.

"They can execute complex calculations in a fraction of a second, making them indispensable in fields like finance, engineering, and physics.

"As a government, we recognise that today's world demands computer literacy to keep up with other developed nations. This realisation led to the establishment of two centers in the LCDA: one at Ajisegiri, Ilupeju, and the other in Damengoro at Ojuwoye area.

"We are aware of the substantial gap between computer literacy and illiteracy.

Numerous job positions require basic computer skills such as email, Microsoft Office proficiency, and internet navigation.

"Having students without computer skills is akin to producing inadequately trained graduates, as today's world necessitates the ability to operate various devices and computer-related tools," he said.

Honourable Ajala stated further that the Summer Tech Boot Camp was created for students to develop their computer knowledge during holiday period.

"We expect pupils and students to build upon these experiences and pursue other computer packages such as Graphics and Animation, UI/UX Design, Web Development, Data Analysis, and more.

The two centers, Ajisegiri and Damengoro, were represented by the top students in the Primary Cohort (General Computing) and Secondary Cohort (General Computing and Microsoft Office Suite). The two best participants emerged from these categories.

The purpose of this recognition is to inspire and motivate others to work diligently and boost the winners' morale to continue excelling," the Odiolowo/Ojuwoye LCDA boss said.

The event was lightened up with basic computer knowledge displays by the benefitting students.

Most of them expressed appreciation to Honourable Ajala and his team, noting that they have acquired knowledge about computer which will enable them to create better living conditions for themselves and their families.

[b]33-yr-old Nurse To Spend Rest Of Her Life In Prison Without Parole For Injecting 7 Newborn Babies To Death

A British nurse, Lucy Letby, on Friday, 18 August, 2023 was sentenced to whole life imprisonment for killing seven newborns and attempting to kill six more.

A whole-life order means a convicted criminal can never be released from prison.

Letby has been on trial since last October. She was accused of injecting her young victims, who were either sick or born prematurely, with air, overfeeding them milk and poisoning them with insulin.

The jury at Manchester Crown Court in northern England reached all of its verdicts after deliberating for 22 days.

The evil nurse was arrested following a string of baby deaths at the neonatal unit of the Countess of Chester Hospital in northwest England between June 2015 and June 2016.

Described by the prosecution as a "calculating" woman who used methods of killing that "didn't leave much of a trace", Letby had repeatedly denied harming the children.

"Lucy Letby was entrusted to protect some of the most vulnerable babies. Little did those working alongside her know that there was a murderer in their midst," Senior Crown Prosecutor Pascale Jones said in a statement.

"Time and again, she harmed babies, in an environment which should have been safe for them and their families," the prosecutor added, calling the killings "a complete betrayal of the trust placed in her".

The court heard that colleagues raised concerns after noticing that Letby was on shift when each of the babies collapsed, with some of the newborns attacked just as their parents left their cots.

Prosecutor Nick Johnson said Letby "gaslighted" her colleagues into believing the string of deaths were "just a run of bad luck".

Letby's final victims were two triplet boys, referred to in court as babies O and P.

Child O died shortly after Letby returned from a holiday in Ibiza in June 2016, while child P died a day after their sibling.

Letby was also said to have attempted to kill the third triplet, child Q, but the jury was unable to reach a verdict on the charge.

Johnson said that by that time Letby was "completely out of control", adding that "she was in effect playing God".

Letby was arrested and released twice. On her third arrest in 2020 she was formally charged and held in custody.

During searches at her home, police found hospital paperwork and a handwritten note on which Letby had written: "I am evil, I did this."

Letby later tried to explain the note by saying she wrote it after being placed on clerical duties following the death of the two triplets.

The killer nurse is only the fourth woman to receive such sentence. A whole-life order means a convicted criminal can never be released from prison.

Letby’s name has been inked in books for committing one of the most horrendous crimes in history. The 33-year-old was sentenced to a rare whole-life order, the most severe penalty, typically reserved for the gravest offenses.

Senator Yunus Akintunde's Counsel To Tribunal: Dismiss Ilaka's Petition, It's Frivolous, Lacks Merit

The lawmaker representing Oyo central Senatorial District in the Upper Legislative Chamber, Dr. Yunus Abiodun Akintunde has urged the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal to dismiss the petition filed against him by Chief Bisi Ilaka and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for lack of merit.

This is contained in the joint final written address of the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, adopted on Tuesday, 22 August, 2023 by his counsels before the lordships of the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Ibadan..

Akintunde, APC and INEC are the first, second and third respondent respectively in the petition filed by Ilaka and PDP. It would be recalled that Ilaka, the PDP Senatorial Candidate for Oyo Central Senatorial District in the February 25 National Assembly Elections had dragged Akintunde, APC and Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) to the tribunal over his loss.

Ilaka and PDP had through their counsels, Festus Adesiyan and Juwon Omigbodun, blamed their loss in the election to corruption as well as over-voting.

Ilaka and PDP had through the counsels, called for cancellation and rerun in the affected polling units.

Akintunde in the joint written address, said the petitioner had failed to prove case of corruption against INEC and alleged over-voting in listed polling units.

“Forms EC 40 (G) produced in court was not issued by the Presiding Officer who is by law the only person who can cancel elections in a unit where there is over-voting or non-deployment of BVAS or violence, ” he said.

He urged the lordships to dismiss the petition on lack of merit, saying the petitioners have not established any fact to justify the reliefs sought.

“This petition from Mr Bisi Ilaka and PDP is frivolous. It lacks merit and should be dismissed in the interest of justice,” Akintunde said.

The counsels to the first and second respondents were Kolawole Eleja, SAN; Mr Kazeem Gbadamosi, SAN, while the third respondent (INEC) was represented by I. A Yusuf.

[b]First Lady Welcomes Rescued Chibok Girl, Assures On Her Going Back To School

The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu on Friday, 11 August, 2023 at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, received Rebecca Kabu, one of the 277 Chibok schoolgirls who were abducted by Boko Haram in 2014.

The First Lady who received Rebecca along with the Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, promised to ensure that Rebecca is well taken care of medically and fit to return to school willingly.

Senator OluRemi Tinubu while assuring that the remaining girls in captivity are not forgotten, appreciated the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and other security agencies and those who were involved in Rebecca’s rescue.

“Our dear daughter, Rebecca, I welcome you, I’ve been praying for you all night, it is well with you, what has happened to you is much trauma; words are inadequate for me to describe it.

“Cases of amnesia should be treated; it is difficult to get by, but since you are still here, God has plans for you. I thank the Office of the NSA and NIA for not relenting and everyone that is assisting in your rehabilitation.

“Rebecca will be our first comeback story and returnee, she is our first fruit; she is a case I am quite interested in to see that she can go back to school at her own pace.’’

The First Lady said her NGO, Renewed Hope Initiative, is strongly working on how matured girls who are forced out of school can return to school for quality education.

She promised that Rebecca will be one of the first recipients of her benevolence.

Senator OluRemi Tinubu said the younger ones, if well educated, would be able to fit into the society and inherit the good legacies the older ones are leaving behind.

“Earlier, I talked to the NSA representative about cases of alternative high school where girls like Rebecca can go back and learn at their pace, because education is important for her and others.

“They need education as tool for the market place, to be able to understand and manage the inheritance and legacies that shall be handed to them.

“We pray and continue to pray that all our children that are still with Boko Haram will come back home, we are waiting in earnest, we have not given up hope, I am sure that by the time she is reunited with her parents, she will be glad.

“With the governor waiting for her, she is in good hands,’’ the first lady said.

Responding, Rebecca, in her low voice, told the first lady that she could barely understand English Language, but the first lady condoled her, saying that she would overcome it.

Earlier, Rear Admiral Yaminu Musa, the Coordinator, Counter Terrorism Centre, NSA, said Rebecca, kidnapped at age 13 in 2014 and now 22 years old, was rescued by the government security agencies on July 17.

He said the returnee has been certified medically and mentally fit to be reunited with her parents in Zana village in Borno state.

He said subsequently, the NSA office would follow up and present her case alongside the 15 other rehabilitated girls that were also rescued for Federal Government education support.

“I’m here to present to you one of those our young ones that were kidnapped in 2014, we are lucky to have one of them back in our midst. Rebecca was kidnapped and abducted from her school in Chibok in 2014 by late Shekarau-led Boko Haram.

“She was rescued and repatriated from Cameroon on July 17, and has completed intensive medical screening and physiological evaluation over the past two weeks by a team of medical and psychological experts between the office of NSA and the National Intelligent Agency.

“Rebecca has been found to be in good health and is psychologically stable; the next step is to hand her over to the Borno state Governor for onward reuniting with her family in Zana.

Tribunal Judgement: Civil Society Coalition Raises Alarm Over Attempts To Blackmail Judiciary

A Coalition of Civil Society Organisations has called on Nigerians to be wary of grand designs by a clique of desperate politicians to destabilise the polity with inciting campaigns, pre-empting the likely verdicts of the Presidential Elections Petition Tribunal ( PEPT) and Gubernatorial Elections Tribunal particularly that of the nation’s economic nerve centre, Lagos State.

According to the Convener, Hameed Balogun and Secretary, Omotehinse Alex of Frontline Socio-Economic Research Centre, the Coalition is disturbed with the activities of various groups and individuals to conspiratorially heat up the polity with subtle insinuations of the possibilities of miscarriage of justice by Elections Tribunals entertaining the last Presidential and Governorship elections.

As both the Presidential and Lagos Gubernatorial Petition Tribunals have concluded hearings from parties and reserve the announcement of dates for declaration of their verdicts, the nation has been awashed with negative campaigns capable of provoking mass unrest in the country.

The Coalition pointed out to the egregious allegations that former Minister and Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, is drafting judgements for the various elections petitions tribunals while it equally noted the subtle blackmail of judiciary through an insidious mass, publicity campaigns of “All Eyes on the Judiciary” across the country.

The Coalition recalled the similitude of the major petitioners from the opposition parties – Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and Labour Party, LP – in elections petition tribunals. The main kernels of their cases challenged as well as tendered virtually the same grounds for disqualification and cancellation of the Presidential and Lagos Gubernatorial elections.

“The PDP and LP in the Presidential Elections Petitions sort; disqualification of Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the grounds of alleged dual citizenship, academic and criminal records while, Shettima is alleged to be quilty of double nominations.

“Similarly, Governor Babajide Sanwoolu is to be disqualified on he strength of an academic record on General Certificate of Education, GCE submitted in 2008, while Dr. Obafemi Hamzat is to be disqualified for swearing oath of allegiance as citizen of the United States of America,” the Coalition noted.

This, according to the Coalition is never accidental but a highly orchestrated plot to sow the seeds of confusion.

The group thereby, clarified that the plans of the major opposition parties ab initio, after losing out in the last general elections was to ferment crisis, protests and chaos.

“It took huge pressure to convince their archaic, anarchistic, anti-democratic mind sets that the correct paths to toe under constitutional democracy is to seek redress in the court of law. Lagos, as the commercial capital city of Nigeria has always been in envious compass of those against the country’s unity and progress, marked out for destabilisation. It behoves on the entire civil populace to massively prevent this plot,” the group noted.

The Coalition called on the media, the general public and the relevant security agencies to closely monitor the activities of these unpatriotic elements masquerading within opposition politics to unleash their malevolent agenda.

“The plot is thickening to draw the nation into another orgies of violence, brigandage, looting and wanton destructions using the #EndSars templates. Unwary Nigerians and the security personnels are advised to be informed and wary of the crafty machinations of these detractors of our budding attempts at democratic governance. All social subterfuges and political gimmicks to mobilise processions, rallies and protests on the verdicts of elections petitions tribunals would inevitably degenerate to a threat to public peace, safety of lives and properties.

“The trend becomes more worrisome with the military coming to state that it has received invitations to undertake a take over. This is not just grave but very sensitive and volatile. It is not just a threat to democratic governance. It is treasonable felony! It must be addressed with all the gravity .

“It may suffice to re emphasise that there are abundant peaceful and constitutional institutionalism for resolving all issues without resort to self-help. Needless to state that the Supreme Court will intervene on the verdicts of the Tribunals.

“More importantly, as people and country, we are facing serious security, socio economic challenges, peace and stability are minimum desideratum to come out of the duodenum. All hands must be on deck to protect our nascent democracy and salvage the country.

“Eternal Vigilance is the Price of Liberty and democratic good governance,” the group stated.
