DISCOMFORTS IN PREGNANCY

NAUSEA AND VOMITING
Occurs in the first trimester. Caused by elevated levels of human chronic gonadotropin and changes in carbohydrate metabolism

WHAT TO DO
-eat dry foods like cereal, toast or crackers before getting out of bed
-Avoid brushing your teeth immediately after arising
-Easy small frequent low fat meals during the day.
-Drink liquid between meals rather than after meals.
-Avoid fried foods and spicy foods.

SYNCOPE
Usually occur in the first trimester.
It may be triggered hormonally or caused by the increased blood volume, anaemia, sudden position changes, fatigue or lying supine.

WHAT TO DO
-sit with feet elevated
-change position slowly
-change your position to the lateral recumbent to releive the pressure of the uterus on the inferior vena cava.

URINARY URGENCY AND FREQUENCY
It is caused by the pressure of the uterus on the bladder.

WHAT TO DO
-Drink adequate amount of liquid during the day.
-limit fluid intake in the evening
-sleep side lying at night
-wear perineal pads if necessary
-perform Kegel exercises

HEADACHES
Results from changes in blood volume and vascular tone

WHAT TO DO:
-Put an ice pack on your forehead or the back of your neck.
-Rest, sit, or lie quietly in a low-lit room. Close your eyes and try to relax your back, neck, and shoulders.
-Eat slowly
- Use acetominophen only if prescribed by the doctor or midwife.

BLEEDING AND SWOLLEN GUMS
This is caused by blood circulation and hormone levels.

WHAT TO DO
-Get a dental checkup early in your pregnancy to make sure your teeth and mouth are healthy.
-Brush your teeth, floss regularly and rinse daily with an antiseptic mouthwash.

CONSTIPATION
Results from decreased intestinal motility, displacements of the intestines, and taking iron supplements.

WHAT TO DO
-eat high fiber foods
-drink sufficient fluid
-exercise regularly
-avoid laxative except prescribed.


PREGNANCY DIZZINESS (FEELING FAINT)
Dizziness can occur anytime during middle to late pregnancy. Here's why it happens:

Caused by a drop in blood pressure, especially when changing positions -- and that can make you dizzy. If your blood sugar levels get too low, you may feel faint.

WHAT TO DO:

-Move around often when standing for long periods of time.
- Lie on your left side to rest. This helps circulation throughout your body.
-Avoid sudden movements. Move slowly when standing from a sitting position.
-Eat regular, small meals.
-Drink plenty of water.


HEARTBURN OR INDIGESTION
Results from increased progesterone levels, decreased gastrointestinal motility, and esophagal reflux and displacement of the stomach by the enlarging uterus.

WHAT TO DO:
-Eat slowly.
-Eat small, frequent meals
-Drink warm liquids.
-Drink milk between meals
-Use antacids only when posting by the doctor


HEMORRHOIDS
Hemorrhoids are swollen veins that appear as painful lumps on the anus. During pregnancy, they may form as a result of increased circulation and pressure on the rectum and vagina from your growing baby.

WHAT TO DO:
-Try to avoid constipation. Constipation can cause hemorrhoids and will make them more painful.
-Avoid sitting or standing for long periods of time; change your position frequently.
-Don't strain during a bowel movement.
-Sit on a soft pillow
- Apply ice packs or cold compresses to the area or take a warm bath a few times a day to provide relief.
-increase exercise such as walking
-If you still need more help, consult your health care provider.

VARICOSE VEINS
Results from weakening walls of the veins it valves and venous congestion.

WHAT TO DO:
-wear supportive hose
-Avoid standing or sitting in one place for long periods.
-Avoid remaining in any position that might restrict the circulation in your legs (such as crossing your legs while sitting).
-Elevate your legs and feet while sitting.
-Exercise regularly.
-Lie with the get and hip elevated

Pregnancy Leg Cramps
Pressure from your growing uterus can cause leg cramps or sharp pains down your legs.

WHAT TO DO:
-Be sure to eat and drink foods that are rich in calcium (such as milk, broccoli or cheese).
-Wear comfortable, low-heeled shoes.
-Try wearing support hose, but avoid any leg wear that is too tight.
- Elevate your legs when possible; avoid crossing your legs.
- Exercise daily.
- Stretch your legs before going to bed.
- Massage the cramp or apply heat or a hot water bottle to the sore area.

BREAST TENDERNESS
It is caused by levels of estrogen and progesterone.

WHAT TO DO
-wear a supportive bra
-Avoid the use of soap on the nipple and areola area to prevent drying

INCREASED VAGINAL DISCHARGE
Caused by hyperplasia of vagina mucosa and increased mucus production.

WHAT TO DO
-Avoid douching
-proper cleansing and hygiene
-wear cotton underwear
-Consult your doctor if Infection is suspected

NASAL STIFFNESS
This results from increased estrogen, which causes swelling of the nasal tissue and dryness.

WHAT TO DO
-use humidifier
-avoid nasal sprays or antihistamines

FATIGUE
Usually results from hormonal changes

-rest frequently
-Do regular exercises that are muscle relaxing and strengthening for the hip and leg joints

I’m glad you met a gynecologist.
I had same tvs scan result (polycystic ovary) last year and the doctor (not a gynecologist) told me he would give me an expensive injection that would ‘flush’ my system and make me new again lol but insisted it would be done in his own hospital.
I simply nodded, left there and continued taking my folic acid.

I always advice to start early if you are having complications so the doctor will follow up and monitor.

Some hospital will give you 2 months interval for your next appointment if you register early.. by then you don reach 3 months+.

Where will I even start from. God really showed me mercy in this journey of 9months.

Towards ending of August, 2022 I found out o was pregnant, I was very happy because I have been praying to God to bless my womb. Hubby returned and I told him, he was very happy and we did a scan to be very sure. Which it was confirmed that I was some weeks gone and EED is May 8th, 2023. My birthday month. The joy doubled.
The journey began; fast forward towards ending of first trimester, I woke up one morning and was not able to urinate. Hubby had to rush me to a private hospital in our estate.
I was admitted and was passed catheter to use. Before the incident I had already done a scan which I was told I had fibroid.
I was admitted, doctor placed me on series of test to know what may have seize my urine. All test came out negative including urinalyses.
After much, doctor said the only option left is for me to do surgery to remove the fibroid that the fibroid is resting on my bladder and also, the baby will be flushed because it’s a 50 50 thing. I cried, I told hubby I don’t wanna loose my baby. The doctor scheduled us for the operation, I told hubby I’m doing any surgery. Had to involve my parents, because the doctor was already messing with my hubby’s mind.

My parents invited me to come over to Lagos from PH. I was discharged after 4days from that private hospital, booked a flight and straight to Lagos. Met with my family doctor, after checking my baby, he said baby is fine that the only solution for now is for me to be on catheter for another 2months, that once the bump gets bigger, it will push the fibroid away from that position and I will be able to pee on my own.
Another wahala again, I was on catheter and still going to work. I used it for almost a month before God showed me mercy. I was able to pee on my own till I delivered.

Had to register for antenatal and was told I will deliver through CS due to the fibroid position.

Second trimester was smooth with normal orishirishi pains each week.

Third trimester was cool too.

I was planning to take leave ending of April, but baby took everyone unawares.

Went to work on 11th April, 12th April was my antenatal, met with my doctor to complain about how I’m feeling, the so-called doctor told me I should go home and take Para that it’s the fibroid pains. Also placed me on diet and some sugar test. I left the hospital angrily.

I got home that afternoon and was feeling so sad, moody. I started crying, called hubby to come back home that I’m not feeling okay. That I’m having pains. Hubby came back and took me to the hospital for us to complain about the pains.
A nurse asked me to go straight to maternity ward, I was checked, behold I was already 7cm dilated. The yesterday of it myself and hubby had a good sex round sha,lol. I was now thinking if that contributed for me seeing a bloody show.

The dancing and makosa now begun, I got checked around some mins to 9pm, I delivered my prince 11:30pm. Even though the nurse that took my delivery was very harsh towards me, I believed she deliberately gave me cut self because baby wasn’t big. Before she could sluggishly came to me, I had already pushed and baby’s head was already out.

In all I gave God all the glory. My first fruit wasn’t aborted according to the so-called private hospital I went initially.

Also, even when the nurses were going through my folder, there were like Madam, are you aware you’re supposed to deliver through CS, even with the pains I told them NO, that my second scan at 28weeks indicated that my passage is free and no fibroid down my cervix.

I just want to say God thank you.

Had the same problem when I was 6 to 7 weeks. Cramps everytime. Had to go see a doc. It's nothing to worry about. I was given flagyl. I took it once and forgot the rest #smile, I don't like taking drugs. Sorry.

I am grateful to all of you here who advised me when I dropped this weeks ago. The side effects are worrisome but luckily for me I had none.

Infact Clomid fixed somethings for me
e.g I no longer spot/bleed in between periods. Secondly I used an Opk after my last clomid and I ovulated which I believe I have not been ovulating which is why my fsh levels was low.
Lastly with this cycle period pain has reduced.

I was hopeful this month but I just started my period today and since my husband won't be available my fertile days, I will skip the medication for this month and try again next month and maybe switch to femara.
TTC is not an easy journey...phewww

With gusto, I hurriedly raced to the bank hoping to be the first to withdraw some cash since it was some minutes pass seven and most POS centers were closed.

Getting to the bank, You need to see the multitude I met there, sweating, cursing, sleeping...

I was informed that the machine wasn’t dispensing, therefore, withdrawing via the counter was the only option🙄.

Standing behind the gate like prisoners under the hot sun for 2 hours before gaining entrance into the banking premises is story for another day.

Once inside, you still have to queue for an hour before gaining entrance into the banking hall.

On getting to the counter, we were told withdrawal limit is TWO THOUSAND NAIRA only! And before, you can withdraw, you must present your BVN slip.

Yes it is. It is an infection but can be easily treated with the right antibiotics that won't harm you or your baby. Speak to your doctor during your next appointment. It will keep getting detected in your urine when it is cultured.

When you are OK, take a lot of probiotic food like pap and yoghurt. Then you can eat lot of garlic to prevent reinfection. Always wipe from front to back so that bacteria from the backside won't affect the front side.
