Music/Radio / Re: Amplifyd Crew Says Goodbye by sosanyabee: 1:58pm On Jun 09, 2009
im sure u guys know im like their biggest fan, and i am also blessed to happen to know one or two of them personally.

B-eazy actually just graduated from Law School in yankee (or jand) last week. The dude has a Bsc, Msc. and LLB now. he’s officially a Lawyer. Muyo (Jor Jor ) runs a massive Mining and IT company in Abuja called Mirecsolutions (http://www.mirecsolutionsinc.com) , and their CEO Oluwadiddy aka MR. VEDA is doing something real massive in computer manufacturing (http://www.veda.com.ng)……

i spoke to one of them over the weekend (b-eazy aka biola). these boys are very humble even though they really have a lot to write home about, and i am proud of their contributions to naija music, their stuff was fun and cool. lets offer our goodwill to the boys of Amplifyd, even though i wish they hung around a bit more.
Music/Radio / What Was Your First Impression Of These Naija Artists by sosanyabee: 12:31pm On Mar 07, 2009
so my conversation about amplifyed crew got me thinking, do you guys remember your first ever impression about the following artists? and what made you change your mind about the first impression? well mine are

Dbanj- F.B.N.S (fine boy no sense), i was like 'what the hell is a tongolo for goodness sake"
9ice- gongo aso didnt make sense to me. he sounded like a yoruba story teller or something.
P-square- these boys are copy-cats
2face- african queen was off the hoooooook
Styl-Plus- i loved them!
Ruggedman- dis guy is a tight rapper
Sasha- wow a naija babe that raps!
Maintain- they were comedians to me
Banky- fine boy but your music wont work in naija lai lai
Eldee- rebel with a cause (tribesmen days)
Sound Sultan- is he really gonna blow?
Faze-are you trying to compete or beef 2face?
Tosin Martins- i will use you on my wedding day
Dare Art Alade- storm records are cool!
Amplifyd Crew- black eyed peas wanna be, they are just there jo
Dekunle Fuji-cant remember (lol)
Durella- dbanj wannabe!
Ikechukwu- wow this guy is soooooooo different
Nato C- why is this guy always in videos without saynig anyting lol
MI-wack, wont work in nigeria

its funny how our impressions of artists change overtime, what changed it for you?
Music/Radio / Re: Amplifyd Crew: I Can't Shout (official Music Video) by sosanyabee: 12:00pm On Mar 07, 2009
funny enough i used to think that way about their music, but oh well. i remember saying exactly what you are saying right now when i heard their first ever song. i was like blaah LOL

but you know what, not everybody is gonna make music a particular way. that's what makes artists different. I promise you the first time we heard MI sing crowd mentality, we said the exact same thing you are saying about these guys. the fact is what is good for the goose aint good for the gander

i still maintain they need to step up their promo game. everytime i bug them on facebook i get the same response 'album dropping soon', im begining to think that is just their stonewall, until i see thier album im not believing anything lol

as far as working with 'proper naija producers', well, i dont think you've heard their stuff. as far as i know, ID cabasa produced their big girls song, and the song is jamming on my itunes like crazy. if u want the tune, send me an email bunmisosanya@gmail

and as for amplifyd, if you guys are listening, PROMO! PROMO! PROMO! PROMO! please dont let all these your songs die in vain lol

omomone:

well think will should give them more chance since they are new maybe they can do something better

yeah but according to this thing they have been exposed to nairaland since 2005, THAT IS A LONGGG TIME AGO! lol come to think of it that is wayy before many artists we know of today, i think they are not being well promoted in nigeria. for example, how many people here have actually heard their music in lagos? i live there and i havent heard it yet, not even baby baby that i really like and have requested many times
Music/Radio / Re: What Do You Guys Think Of Amplifyed Crew by sosanyabee: 3:40pm On Jan 19, 2009
they are to me very talented, i like them a lot, but they need more promotion and publicity in nigeria

Music/Radio / Re: Nigerian Music Is Deteriorating? by sosanyabee: 12:06am On Nov 10, 2008
Shaz:

So Tosin, what you are saying is the slangs do not get to you at all?

It's had a negative influence on the Nigerians I know, they can't make a correct sentence without interjecting some silly slang.

At the end of the day, the slangs get too much and you'll end up getting confused. . lol.

I was actually expecting someone to ask me 'kini big deal'?. . lmao. . it's not on though. It's more on the razz side, eg. Disco peperempe? Wth?

if you mentioned yebariba somboribobo i can understand. but explain to us what is wrong with disco peperempe? or how it has a negative influence on nigerians?   maybe you did not grow up in nigeria, hence you have never heard the phrase before.

bottom line is this is a rather pointless exchange. i dont hear anyone complaining about soulja boy's snap crackle and pop nonsense.
Music/Radio / Re: Nigerian Music Is Deteriorating? by sosanyabee: 11:52pm On Nov 09, 2008
AfrknKngs:

I agree, they should be classified as "Gbedu or Party Vibe" or "Naija POP" Ah well,

my question is, how will you categorize lolipop by lilwayne?

i know years back, people argued over what nelly's "must be the money" should have been called

but in 2008, i can tell you, the song will be under hiphop
Music/Radio / Re: Nigerian Music Is Deteriorating? by sosanyabee: 10:58pm On Nov 09, 2008
A-40:

Those are not hip-hop songs they should be grouped under another genre but definitely not hip-hop

since you are the almighty authority in what hiphop is, please school us, educate us on what we should call hiphop, o mighty one
Music/Radio / Re: Nigerian Music Is Deteriorating? by sosanyabee: 10:57pm On Nov 09, 2008
tosinadeda:

thats y u cnt classify such songs as hip hop

pls wat are you people talking about here as if you would say lolipop by lilwayne is not hiphop undecided undecided

the bottom line is hiphop has evolved. people have short attention span. hiphop understands this. if this means a catchy chorus, or a catchy title, so be it.
Music/Radio / Re: "Disco Peperempe" New Music by Amplifyd by sosanyabee: 8:09pm On Nov 09, 2008
shaz seems to have a problem with the name of the song! shocked
Music/Radio / Re: Nigerian Music Is Deteriorating? by sosanyabee: 8:05pm On Nov 09, 2008
Shaz:

Pardon me, but I need your opinion on this. Why is it that ever since the "new millenium" nigerian artistes have never ceased to surprise us with meaningless slangs embodied in their songs?

I mean, when it was just 'Tongolo', 'no long thing', 'nothing dey happen' it was cool and refreshing, (I think). Then weird stuffs like 'efrebor' can to the surface, like wth?? Maybe we shoulda seen this coming from the 'woske - yeewo' lady?

I was suprised to go through Nairaland today and found song titles like 'Disco Peperemepe' (are we supposed to move backwards or forwards?), 'skiboropopo', kalangolo.

Others are just obscene like Lala's Idi nla, what the heck is going on? Like seriously.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they have to be 'britiko' or 'yankee-ish' about this but there should be a little bit of reasoning when naming/making a track.

Even things like 'kamakaze on a kentro level', if you ain't going to say what it means, take it out of the song. If it's some cult slang, damn! every listener has been hypnotized. Lol.

But on a more serious note, we need musicians with deep thoughts and not just those that want to make it quick by saying every rude word under the sun? It's good to try to be on the US standard but Americanization is not the key. neither is being RAZZ and vulgar. It's good to try innovative things in songs but nah, too many slangs just kill the whole idea.

Or what do y'all think?

im not sure i agree with your argument here. first of all, you judge a song on its merits. You have to listen to the tracks first. the song is either hot, or its not. when artists pick song names, that is not what determines whether the song is hot or not. M.I.s song doesnt even have a name (i think it is called safe). so i dont put too much weight on the title of the song.

now as per deep thouhgts, well, artists are different. some are philosophical, some are commercial, some try to strike a balance. like i said, you judge a song by the contents, not by the name.

Music/Radio / Re: Favourite Rap Lines By Nigerian Rappers by sosanyabee: 5:34pm On Nov 09, 2008
actually i take that back, the best part of the song is

"woow, and so my cellfone rings like three times, not inclined to pick the line but, wooow/its a voicemail from my homeboy muyo, BUNGALOWS!"
Music/Radio / Re: Favourite Rap Lines By Nigerian Rappers by sosanyabee: 5:32pm On Nov 09, 2008
