Let me begin by telling you that no one amongst all humans could ever be as accommodating and enduring as these two prophets you just mentioned. Christ (PBUH) was once wrongly insulted while preaching the gospel and he never uttered a word in retaliation and when his followers asked him why he didn't answer to the unbelievers' abuses, he replied "everyone has what he's had to sell, that (abuses) is what they have and this (sharing the gospel) is ours which we are selling." Likewise, Mohammad (PBUH)was once stoned and badly injured when he attempted to go and seek refuge in a town after the deaths of his uncle and wife, so as to continue his call unto God. Soaked in the pool of his blood, God sent an angel to him to ask if he(Mohammad) would like his offenders punished for their evil act and he replied "Oh God please forgive them for they know not what they're doing". The list for these acts of endurance and forgiveness goes on endlessly.
Now to offer you clarification on the issues you raised;
First Mohammed (PBUH) never resorted to 'violent and bloody' methods to spread Islam, the truth is that when he was making his glorious calls unto the one and only God, his people (people of Mecca who were idol worshipers then) did not only disbelieve him but frantically and brutally tried to stop him from talking about God. Now the point is, though the people were at the liberty not to accept his message (and the prophet was not to force the message on them), they had no right also to stop him from preaching (the words of God which came from God and thus made his exercise "the work of God". This they continued and followed with series of threats and eventually, brutal attacks. His reactions which in-turn led to full blown conflicts with the unbelievers was directed by God Almighty to preserve "His Words". It should be noted that the prophet was being defensive of "the words of God" from the unbelievers.
Secondly, we all have heard or read about the crusaders of this world and their activities, that has not justified any condemnation of the generality of the christian kingdom as religion of violence, brutality, hostility, terrorism, etc, because there are some actions that are primarily incited by individuals' ways of thinking which could be contrary to the teachings of their religions.
Finally, it is pertinent to note that Islam teaches and preaches PEACE and FORGIVENESS a great deal. This I can give you a full note on if chance permits. Thanks.

Let it be known that Christians still own and run their businesses in countless number of churches in the northern states of the country (with numerous new ones springing up at present) despite the incessant bombings. What happens if all the churches in such states were to be demolished based on this ideology (I find it difficult is actually the Gov.'s motive though)of putting a stop to the spreading of certain religion (Christianity)?
ISLAM is of God and no one, I repeat no person or group of persons would by any means be able to put an end to it.
And I hereby challenge whoever deems it fit to come up with constructive and reasonable argument that's contrary to this view.
Please whoever wants to comment should show good level of maturity by avoiding unnecessary insults, then we could even take up meanings and virtues of ISLAM and CHRISTIANITY side by side for the benefits of other followers of the two religions.
