Education / Open Letter To The Management Of Oaustech, Warning From Frustrated Class 2020 by speakoclock: 11:07am On Jan 30, 2022
OPEN LETTER TO THE MANAGEMENT OF OLUSEGUN AGAGU UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (OAUSTECH)
WARNING FROM FRUSTRATED STUDENT OF CLASS 2020...

The burning fire of frustration and the grievances in me will make salutations impossible. In what appears to be victimisation of the #TheExceptionals, class of 2020, when they completed their programmes including project works, their results and certificates were yet to be released, not talk about been released for the National Youth Service Corps, the university management has claimed this to be failure of the formal software.

To be precise, the student should not be held responsible for the negligence of some members of staffs who are hell bent on performing their duties as expected. It is very laughable and ridiculous that you even tag the incompetence of the ICT personnels to failure of the former software and adopted to pasting of Student results in a disorganized manner on the notice boards, is there a better definition of incompetence than this? This I guess is a practical definition of lack of concern to class of 2020.

The horrible condition state has made some of our parents doubt our studentship being the fact that we completed our final exams and project works by September, 2021. Here we are sitting at home idle for four (4) months now. This is a great threat to the mental health of students because innumerable number of thought have been seen, a lot of opportunities lost and unknown academic status of the students. Another session started, still no communication, we don't know our fate, if some would be staying over for an extra year or not.

It is lamentable that we could not secure a job to keep us busy as most employers could not verify that we are graduates. Our results that should give us an edge have been inaccessible. I attended 11 job interviews before the end of 2021, all of which they said I'm not a verified graduate and I have decided not to apply for any job opportunity anymore. We can't apply for scholarships nor graduate internships. This is a master stroke of cruelty!

Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology OAUSTECH is a place to be, but there are some lapses that needs to be checked.
We were rushed to complete our final year project works, some of us never had the opportunity to go for the semester break and holidays. Of what essence was this when we are yet to receive our final results after 4 months?

OAUSTECH has competent students and graduate who can fix the reported cause of the delay. We have alumni who work at microsoft, andela and other tech firm in Nigeria and abroad. We have tech hubs on campus who are capable, far better than the whole ICT team combined who have always rejected students and department association proposal to implement their project but would rather steal the intellectual property of such student and make such student seems unproductive.

We are supposed to be in our preparation reporting to the camp on February 2022, for the compulsory one year service. Here we are watching the clock ticks how way through 2022 without a single public statement by the school management to the class of 2020.

It is pertinent to note that most Students who call themselves student leaders, stakeholders, Irumole in Council and the most concerned, the SUG president have been silent on this matter.

This is a call to school management, to come out and publicly apologize to the class of 2020, The Exceptionals for the disrupt in our career pursuit and find a solution to the cause of this which we believe there is something more to, within the next 7 days or else make necessary preparation to welcome us back on campus with full force to express our grievances as confrontation has been the best way you understand.

We use this opportunity to called on relevant authorities and well-meaning Nigerians to intervene and prevail on the Vice Chancellor and the school management.

We the class of 2020, The Exceptionals vow to resist any attempt by the school to disrupt our careers.

We are not stopping here, we would deploy every media platform to make our grievances known.

Till we meet again,
SPEAK O'CLOCK
