Solidcitizen:
Please what is the fastest way to get accommodation apart from Rentfaster, Facebook Market Place and Kikiji. I have tried the above options but they aren’t picking their calls. I’m in Calgary.

I have furnished 2 bedroom apartment in Calgary (one more room to be furnished in a week) for mid term rental (30+ days).

Let me know what you need.

letilex: hi sppecie in interested in givin birth in la since I hav family livin in california.but i need to ask u some questions like how much did u spend overall.cos I hav a budget of like 6000 n I want to knw all the costs involved thanks

My Expenses (contd.)

Paediatric care - $100
Circumcision on day 8 - $300 ( The Nigerian Dr that delivered my son circumcised him)

Paperwork in LA was fast and easy

My wife informed the social worker at the hospital that she needed the birth certificate to travel within 2 weeks.
After 2 weeks I arrived LA to help wifey with paperwork and Birth Certificate was already waiting.
I collected this and booked appointment (by Phone) with the US Passport office at Wilshire BLVD.
By this time we all had flight tickets - to travel within 2 weeks ( This is condition for fast track PP).
I went wih wife and son to the Passport office and applied.
2 days later, Passport was ready! and I picked up - ready to travel.

I ll advise any one that can afford to RENT YOUR OWN PLACE AND LET YOUR RELATIONS VISIT YOU!
That way - No one will Think You owe him Any thing! If you stay with relations - sooner /later, you will
find out s'thing you don't like about your host OR she finds out s'thing wrong with you!

Since my wife arrived, 2 other Ladies have come in and stayed in the same house with wifey - and have
delivered - 1 normal and 1 via CS - All HAPPY!

LA does NOT have the several issues with POE as you have in Houston/NY/ Atlanta though it's a longer flight!

Cheers.

( Sorry for NOT updating for long time)

Good News!!!! My Baby Boy, CHRIS was delivered on the 10th of Oct at Los Angeles by a Nigerian, Dr. K.N.S Mbagwu via normal
delivery and my wife was discharged after 24 hours. Like I mentioned earlier in my past posts, the Dr. owns townhouses opposite
the Hospital. There was no need to stay an extra day at the hospital. So consider this - staying at one of these properties will save you
unnecessary hospital fee for staying extra days.

For now these are our expenses:

We paid
-> $3000 to the Hospital
-> $1500 To the Doctor
We are paying $1200 /month per person for the Fully Furnished townhouse( 3 rooms upper level, reception, kitchen - all utensils included at ground floor ). My wife is currently with another Nigerian lady.

The Dr accepted the tests we brought from home but requested more Lab Test ( I don't have the exact amt as I m out of the US but I bet it's not more than $250). My wife's EDD was close and the Dr cancelled the scan after checking her and the lab results. We had earlier scan before travelling to the US and the Dr obviously did not want to expose the baby to more rays.

My son has Paediatrich check up on Monday (tomorrow, LA time) and I ll update the charges.

If any one is considering Los Angeles, email me.

Thanks

dotunbond:

Thanks for the info and congrats in advance on the birth of your baby. please you did not state how much these "extra costs" would amount to. Kindly keep us informed so that we can have an idea of the total total costs so as not to get any surprises. Thanks again.

------------------------------------------------
The extra costs will vary . Just like in most of the hospitals mentioned earlier by other contibutors, cost of Paediatric care will depend on the health status of your baby and any issues arising. The fixed costs are the ones I mentioned in my earlier post.

As I mentioned earlier, my wife's delivery is in October -so I can Only give our own extra costs after the delivery.

(I left the US so I can go back to work and 'll return after the delivery to help with paperwork and travelling.)

ADVICE FOR TRAVEL:

If You can afford it, I ll advise pregnant women to travel with their Husband (+ kids, if you have any) and book for holiday. Like someone mentioned earlier, avoid Atlanta and New York. I went with my wife and 2 kids through Orlando and there was no hard question. We spent 2 weeks at Disney and continued our journey.
If you are travelling alone, you 'll go straight to face the immigration officer and the preganancy will be very obvious. In our own case, I was the one talking to the Immig officer while my 2 kids were jumping around. The Immig officer was even busy admiring my kids and did not notice my heavily pregnant and Tired wife!

For LA ,The accomodation you ll stay at belongs to the Dr and you 'll feel at home and prepare your own food. Take the proximity of the hospital as another added adavntage. On the other hand, if you have family in LA you may choose to stay with them.

Thanks

Hi Team

I have been following the posts discreetly for the past 7 months and took the best advice
from the group. This is the first Time I m posting on Nairaland.

My wife and I landed safely in the US in August and we are waiting for the arrival of my baby in October
in LA, California.
We are using a Nigerian Dr with more than 30 years practice in the US.

His charges are as below:

Prenatal Care & Delivery (Dr's fee): $1500

Caesarian Section Deliver( Dr's Fee): &2500

Vaginal Delivery (Hospital Fee) : $3000- 1 Day Stay

Caesarian Section Delivery (Hospital Fee): $5000 - 3 day stay

Other Extra Cost to you: Paediatric care for new baby, Lab Test and Ultrascan, You and Your baby's extra need

The Dr has fuly furnished accomodation at Inglewood, Downton LA, Long Beach
but my wife is staying at Inglewood, 2 min walk to the hospital she's planning to use at LA.

The furnished accomodation will cost $1200 per month. The accomodation is 3 bed Townhouse with seating/parlour downstairs,TV, internet,

kitchen utensils, etc

My wife currently is satying with another lady that came from London to deliver.

If you are interested to have your baby around LA, let me know and I ll send you the Dr's office phone and flyer.
(I m NOT sure if it's ok to post the flyer here)
Thanks
