Justice Kanyson Lawanson of the High Court slammed the death sentence on the military officer on Thursday, after he was tried and found guilty.

It has been reported that a Nigerian Army officer convicted for armed robbery was on Thursday sentenced to death, either by hanging or by lethal injection in Adamawa State, Stechitegist.com reports.

The military officer, Dompa Hyellablani, with Force number 13NA/70/6142, private, who served at 351 Artillery in Monguno, Borno State, was convicted on two counts bordering on criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.

SaharaReporters gathered that the convict was enlisted into the Nigerian Army in 2013, and served in Plateau State before he was transferred to Borno State and posted to Monguno where he served until 2019.

Justice Kanyson Lawanson of the High Court slammed the death sentence on the military officer on Thursday, after he was tried and found guilty.

The judge, however, discharged and acquitted 19-year-old Emmanuel Adeka'a, who was arraigned alongside the military officer and joined as a defendant on the same count.

According to the prosecution, Hyellablani and Adeka'a had on September 9, 2019, while in front of VIS Restaurant, Yola, in the Yola North local government area, robbed Rita Harrison, a staff member of Post Primary Schools Management Board of her vehicle.

Hyellablani, an indigene of Adamawa State was said to have used an assault rifle to forcibly dispossess Harrison of her car (Toyota Camry LE) with registration number: BL 85 LSD - Lagos.

In his statement tendered and admitted in evidence, Hyellablani told the court that while in Monguno in 2019, the military decided to collect all arms from them, but that he refused to hand over his own due to threats posed by Boko Haram terrorists.

"I kept the rifle for self-defence," he added.

A few days later, he was granted a pass to travel to his home state of Adamawa where he committed the crime on September 9, 2019.

"He was fully dressed in military uniform and armed with a rifle when he saw Harrison in her car in front of the restaurant where he ordered her to give up her car at gunpoint," the prosecution submitted.

Thereafter, he was said to have fired four shots to scare away those who might want to rescue the woman.

He also threatened to shoot his friend who was also trying to escape for his life and ordered him to drive the stolen car to his hotel apartment around 11:30 pm.

However, they were intercepted by a team of local vigilantes while on their way to the hotel and handed over to the police.

While pronouncing the death sentence on him, Justice Kanyson declared that the prosecution had proved its case against the defendant as charged, and sentenced him to death by hanging or by lethal injection.

A housewife is telling the police all she knows after planning her husband's kidnap.

Memunat Salaudeen was on Monday, November 1, arrested by operatives of Ogun state police command for planning with three others to kidnap her husband, Stechitegist.com gathered.

The suspects were apprehended at about 6:30 pm along Papa/Itori road while men of Federal Highway patrol team, led by Inspector Sunday Imohiosen, were on stop and search duty. The team, accosted three young men namely Olayinka Lawal, Asungba Nura and Usman Oluwatoyin whose look was highly suspicious on a motorcycle, and stopped them for search.

While searching them, a cutlass and a new strong rope were recovered from them. The team quickly separated them and questioned them individually about their mission in that area with rope and cutlass. The three of them gave different answers to the question, this further aroused the suspicion of the policemen, who then decided to interrogate them more.

In the course of interrogation, the three of them confessed that it was one woman who was later identified as Memunat Salaudeen that gave them the sum of N8000 to buy a cutlass and a rope strong enough to tie a human being. They confessed further that, the woman who is a nurse in their area at Balogun tuntun Gas line Ifo, asked them to go and hide somewhere along that road, and that she will lure her husband to the place where they will kidnap him and tie him with the rope and then ask for ransom. They further informed the police that, the woman told them that, that is the only way she can get money from her husband who she accused of being very stingy despite the fact that he has money. It was the place they were going according to their plan before they were intercepted by the police.

The woman was subsequently brought to the scene, and on seeing the arrested suspects, she admitted being the brain behind the whole thing. She told the policemen that her husband has not been given her money and that she decided to plan his kidnapping in order to get money from him at all cost.

Confirming the incident, the state commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to an anti-kidnapping unit of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation.

He added that three of the rescued victims were treated and discharged on the spot while the remaining six were presently on admission receiving treatment at the Medical Emergency (LASEMS) unit of the General Hospital, Lagos.

While noting that the admitted victims were responding to treatment and doing well, the Deputy Governor noted that the injuries sustained by those presently on admission were minor injuries that are not life-threatening.

Hamzat, however, explained that some casualties of the collapsed building who were brought into the hospital dead have been deposited at the hospital morgue.

“So we have six people in here, all-male, and thankfully they are doing well. The doctors have told us their state; they have minor injuries and nothing life-threatening thankfully. They are being treated and of course, as you know, the Lagos State Government is taking full responsibility for their treatment.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Olusegun Ogboye, who accompanied the Deputy Governor on the visit assured the rescued victims of quality and optimal health care service at the facility stressing that trained medical personnel are on the ground to aid their recovery process.

Other top state government officials who joined in the visit include; the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Idris Salako and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mrs Abiola Kosegbe.

Mohammed, President Muhammadu Buhari regime’s head of propaganda and state-sponsored disinformation, says his perennial agitation for social media clampdown in Nigeria is to prevent another global war.

On Monday, Mr Mohammed, who has called for social media to be regulated in Nigeria, insisted that the platforms spread fake information, Stechitegist.com gathered.

“With fake news today and misinformation — I have always said here that the next world war will be caused by fake news,” he said while defending his ministry’s 2022 budget before the house of representatives committee on information, national orientation.

While recounting the means of disseminating information decades ago, the minister explained that Nigerians had deserted the old means by embracing the “unseen enemy,” social media.

“Information is not what it used to be, 20 to 30 years ago if the state or federal government had a television or radio and probably a newspaper, that was what we needed,” he noted.

According to Mr Mohammed, the Buhari regime will always be criticised if it refuses to take adequate measures to regulate social media content, Stechitegist.com gathered.

“The people today, they don’t read newspapers, they don’t watch television — it’s social media. And it is most expensive; the most unseen enemy, they are there every moment, and until we go to the same battlefield with them, there is nothing the government will do that will seem right,” he said.

Infamous for his propaganda, Mr Mohammed himself has been caught circulating fake news previously as opposition spokesman and now as cabinet information minister. 

Angered by Mr Mohammed’s notoriety for spreading misinformation, a lawmaker in January described the minister’s statements as “senseless and unpatriotic.”

“You can see even the U.S. that use to pride itself on the freedom of the press is now questioning the role of the social media,” he added.

Mr Mohammed had hailed former U.S. President Donald Trump for endorsing Mr Buhari’s Twitter ban on June 4.

“Congratulations to the country of Nigeria, who just banned Twitter because they banned their President,” Mr Trump had said after Mr Mohammed announced the ban of the social media platform primarily used to gather information and contribute to issues of national interest.

“Donald Trump has congratulated Nigeria,” Mr Mohammed said. “If that means anything, that that is what we ought to have done. But that’s just by the way.”

While defending the 2021 budget proposal of the Information sector of his ministry in October 2020, Mr Mohammed had reasoned that Nigeria should also go the way of China to tackle misinformation.

“If you go to China, you cannot get Google, Facebook or Instagram, but you can only use your email because they have made sure that it is regulated,” he said.

Stating that there was an urgent need for a policy to curb fake news on social media, the minister said, “We need a social media policy that will regulate what should be said and posted and what should not.”

He added that “We also need technology and resources to dominate our social media space.’’

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) on Sunday in Abuja cautioned Christians against amplifying the country’s problems and challenges but to pray instead for Nigerian leaders.

“Christians should not amplify the challenges or problems of the country, but pray and fill the vacuum of worries and anxieties with prayers, Stechitegist.com reports.

“God is showing mercy to our country and we shall prevail if we the people do not relent in prayers or give excuses not to pray,’’ PFN president Wale Oke said while giving the charge.

Despite being the largest economy in Africa, Nigeria has ranked 103rd (with 45 scores) in Henley Passport Index ranking of the world’s most powerful passports, with Burundi and the Republic of Congo on the 97th and 100th seats, respectively.

The Henley Passport Index, published since 2006, is based on exclusive data obtained from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which has the most comprehensive and accurate travel information in the world.

Ranked in the first position are Japan and Singapore (192); Germany and South Korea coming in the second position with 190; and Finland, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain all together in third place with a score of 189.

Afghanistan is the worst passport to carry in the world with just 26 countries accessible to its holders, followed by Iraq, 28; Syria, 29; Pakistan, 31; and Yemen, 33.

The ranking, based on the most travel-friendly passports across the globe indicates that Ghana is far ahead of Nigeria, as it stands on the 84th spot. The latest edition was published on October 5.

Topping the African countries’ list is Seychelles at 29, followed by Mauritius at 33 and South Africa coming third and ranking 58 worldwide.

However, Nigeria, which stands on the same spot as Ethiopia, beats African countries like South Sudan, 104th, Eritrea, 105th; the Democratic Republic of the Congo, 106th; Sudan, 107th; Libya, 108th; and Somalia, 111th.

In its July report, Henley Passport Index placed Nigeria on the 101st spot, beating countries like Ethiopia, South Sudan, Eritrea and Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sudan, Libya, and Somalia.

The last index also shows that the Nigerian passport had become less valuable than it was in 2013, before Muhammadu Buhari became president, when the country ranked 78 worldwide and ahead of Congo and Burundi who both fell into the bottom ten category at the time.

Mr Buhari’s policies have continued to diminish Nigeria’s standing across the world, with development experts warning that the Nigerian leader’s poor economic knowledge and open support for brutality and extra-judicial executions of civilians by security forces will hurt the country’s estimation abroad.

The sexual abuse case against Olarewaju James, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, continued today and a tape of the victim speaking about the incident was played in court.

During the trial earlier today in Lagos, the court played a tape recording of the alleged victim’s interview with child rights advocate Bisi Ajayi Kayode.

In the video played in court, the alleged victim, who is underaged, narrated how Baba Ijesha allegedly assaulted her 7 years ago when she was just 7 years old, and how he tried again recently after she turned 14.


She said that Baba Ijesha visited the house where she was staying with her guardian, comedienne Oluwadamilola Adekoya, better known as Princess, and brought out his penis then asked her to sit on his lap.

She said she was engrossed in the cartoon she was watching on television so she sat on his lap until she felt something wet on her body.

She said in the video played in court: “I didn’t make a sound after seeing his private part. I sat on his laps myself and removed my pant because of my concentration on the cartoon I was watching.”

Using a doll to demonstrate how she sat on Baba Ijesha’s lap, the girl said: “I sat in front of the television trying to watch cartoon.


Baba Ijesha told me to come and sit on his lap and so I did. Then he removed his private part and told me to sit on him.”

She said she soon felt something wet and then went into the bathroom to clean herself up with a towel. She said Baba Ijesha didn’t say anything afterward.

She claimed that Baba Ijesha returned again the following day and penetrated her with a key.

He parked his car away from his house and that was where he inserted his car key into my private part while trying to kiss me,” she alleged.

“When he inserted the car key, I felt some type of way.”

The girl then demonstrated how he allegedly penetrated her with the car key.

She said she eventually told her mother about the incident on April 17, 2021, and on April 19, 2021, CCTV was set up to get evidence in order to charge Baba Ijesha to court.

The Buhari regime has demanded an apology from Amnesty International, CNN and DJ Switch for allegedly misleading the world that there was a massacre at the Lekki Toll Gate on October 20, 2020.

DJ Switch whose given name is Obianuju Udeh is a Nigerian disc jockey who is on exile over the 2020 EndSARS protest and the Lekki toll gate incidence.


The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said the trio should tender an unreserved apology for portraying the Nigerian military, police and other security agencies in a bad light.

Addressing newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja on the first anniversary of the Lekki toll gate incidence, the minister reiterated that contrary to the claims by CNN, Amnesty International and the disc jockey, the military did not shoot at protesters.


“CNN acted unprofessionally by relying on unverified, and possibly-doctored social media videos, as well as other open-source information to conclude that a massacre took place at the toll gate.

“On its part, CNN went from 38 people killed to two to just one, after a supposed global exclusive even when the network had no reporter on ground at the Lekki Toll Gate on October 20, 2020.


“On Monday, the Judicial Panel of Inquiry that was set up by the Lagos State Government after the EndSARS protest wrapped up its sitting.

“During the sitting, CNN was summoned but it never showed up, thus missing a great opportunity to prove its allegation of a massacre at the toll gate.

“In its latest attempt to grasp at straws and redeem whatever is left of its battered credibility on this issue, CNN has continued with its baseless report that soldiers shot at protesters,” he said.

The minister said Amnesty International also had a golden opportunity to convince the world, but it rather opted for issuing “meaningless press releases.”

Mr Mohammed condemned a current report running on the CNN network on the purported massacre contending that the international news platform acted unprofessionally, Stechitegist.com reports.


“CNN brazenly and unashamedly held on to its flawed narrative, relying on an unidentified mother whose son was reportedly shot dead at Lekki, but without convincing evidence of who shot him dead.

“The same CNN that tweeted on October 23, 2020, that 38 people were shot dead at Lekki is now struggling to convince the world that one boy was killed at Lekki. What a shame,” he stated.

He said the federal government remained proud of the security agencies for acting professionally and showing restraint all through the EndSARS protests and the ensuing violence.

The minister said it was the professionalism and restraint of the security agencies that saved the lives and property of many.

“The six soldiers and 37 policemen who died during the EndSARS protests are human beings with families even though the Human Rights organisations and CNN simply ignored their deaths, choosing instead to trumpet a phantom massacre,” he said.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has debunked the reports that Senator Ademola Adeleke had promised him a private jet gift.

This is contained in a statement by the Directorate of Media and Public Affairs of the Ooni of Ife’s Palace, Mr Moses Olafare, and sent to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Ile-Ife.


Olafare admonished the general public to disregard a viral report that stated that a gubernatorial aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ademola Adeleke, during a courtesy visit on Wednesday promised to procure an aircraft for the Ooni.

He said that there’s no such report issued from the palace despite the fact that the politician’s speech was twisted by some writers with hidden intentions, including to drag the respected stool of the Ooni in the mud.

The Press Secretary clarified that the truth could be sought from videos that emanated from the visit.

Olafare added that Ooni’s singular request was for a credible election, devoid of crisis for the betterment of all, which the PDP chieftain agreed to.

According to him, it is the usual character of all political office aspirants and party’s candidates without exception, including the visiting Senator Adeleke, to make several promises like the reconstruction of roads in Ile-Ife and completion of the Osun State Airport project at Ido-Osun, among others.

Federal University of Oye-Ekiti has suspended its Bursar, Mrs Bolatito Akande, over alleged misconduct.

Special Adviser on Media Matters to the Vice-Chancellor, Mr Wole Balogun, confirmed the suspension in a statement issued on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti.

Balogun said the bursar was suspended by the university’s Governing Council, chaired by Dr Mohammed Yahuza, to give room for a thorough investigation into the misconducts allegedly committed by Akande.

He, however, denied the allegation that Akande was prevented from entering her office, saying that all the security men deployed were at the institution’s gate and could not have stopped her from entering her office.

“The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, is a law-abiding citizen and could not have supported brigandage. It is not true that the bursar was harassed.

“Let me clear the air that the security men were deployed at the gate due to the ongoing probe. They were there to maintain law and order,” Balogun said.

He further said that the suspension slammed on the bursar was to allow an unfettered probe into the allegations raised against her, adding that she had not been sacked, as being rumoured.

In her reaction, Akande, however, accused the university management of using security agencies to chase and harass her after being ‘illegally’ Suspended, Stechitegist.com reports.

Akande, who was until May 7, the bursar of the institution, said it was regrettable that the security personnel, allegedly deployed by the vice-chancellor, prevented her from entering her office, in spite of not being found culpable of any offence.
