Health / Texas Baby Born Without Skin Is Able To Be Held, Kissed By Mother After Skin Tra by stellapatu: 12:08pm On Oct 25, 2019
A 10-month-old baby boy born with a rare disease that left him without any skin can now be kissed and cuddled by his mother after new skin was grown for him in a laboratory.

Ja'bari Gray was born on New Year's Day in San Antonio, Texas, with his eyelids, hands and feet fused together and skin missing from almost everywhere except on his head.

Doctors at Methodist Children's Hospital put the infant on life support and told his parents, Priscilla Maldonado and Marvin Gray, there was nothing more they could do.

But the couple refused to accept this and, after a long-fought battle with their insurance company, secured their son a transfer to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. Doctors had skin grown for him in a laboratory in Boston that specializes in burn victims then had his new skin flown to Texas for transplant, reported KTRK.

His family says they are so excited that they can finally hold and touch Ja'bari for the first time.

Now you can kiss him, touch him, do all that stuff,' Maldonado, Ja'bari's mother, told KTRK. 'He got to wear his first set of clothes now, so he's getting there.'

She says Ja'bari's transplant is the first of its kind that's ever been done for such a young child with his condition.

Maldonado said she was so excited to hold her son and have skin-to-skin contact for the first time.

'It was heartwarming, because he was crying when he was laying down,' she told KTRK.

'But as soon as I picked him up and had the skin-to-skin contact and put him on my chest, he just stopped crying.'

Maldonado wrote in a post on GoFundMe that she suffered no complications throughout her pregnancy until around the 37-week mark when doctors noticed he wasn't gaining weight.

Her doctors at Methodist Children's Hospital decided to induce her but, on the morning of the procedure, Ja'bari's heart rate dropped so low that an emergency C-section was performed.

Nazanin’s husband Richard said: ‘Gabriella came back to us late at night, a bit uncertain seeing those she only remembered from the phone. ‘It has been a long journey to have her home, with bumps right until the end. ‘It was a hard goodbye for Nazanin and all her family. Events / Southwest Pilot Tammie Jo Shults, Who Landed Plane Safely After Passenger Was Su by stellapatu: 7:52pm On Oct 20, 2019
The pilot who safely landed a Southwest Airlines flight after an engine exploded, smashing a window and killing a passenger who was sucked out of the aircraft, says she still faces sexism despite her heroic actions.

Tammie Jo Shults calmly landed Flight 1380 in Philadelphia on April 17, 2018, when disaster struck just 22 minutes into the journey from New York to Dallas.

The veteran pilot has now revealed how, despite being compared to Captain Chesley 'Sully' Sullenberger, who landed a plane on the Hudson River in a 2009 emergency, saving all passengers on board, she never achieved his status - because she is a woman.'I recently gave a talk and a woman came up to me and said, "Well, you're no Sully, but I'm excited to hear you speak." It's one example of a thousand sexist things said to me in 35 years of flying.' Shults admitted to Elle.com. 'After my talk, she came up to me and said, "Actually Sully is no you." It's all about perspective and how much information you have.

'Other people have said, "The only reason people are making a big deal about this is because you're a woman. You weren't even successful, because somebody died on the plane." I landed the plane safely though and I don't need to address it further. I did it. People can take the facts and work it out for themselves. Let them connect the dots.'

Shults had a phone conversation with Captain Sullenberger the day after the horror and the pair spoke about what she could expect in the future in terms of media.

Fashion / Two Carers Blew Parkinson's Patient's Life Savings On Make-up And New Clothes by stellapatu: 7:39pm On Oct 20, 2019
Two carers helped themselves to the life savings of a pensioner with Parkinson’s, blowing thousands on new clothes and cosmetics. Sandra Smith, 70, suffered from epilepsy and required around-the-clock care at St George’s Care Home in Wallasey. Louise Pritchard-Stapleton and Leanne Reynolds were two of those who were meant to be looking after her.But instead they hijacked Mrs Smith’s bank details and began pilfering cash ‘drip by drip’ – eventually blowing almost £6,500 of the frail resident’s £9,000 pot. Liverpool Crown Court heard Pritchard-Stapleton spent almost £5,000 treating herself to fake eyelashes, hair extensions and new outfits while Reynolds spent almost £1,500 on Amazon buying gifts for her children. Pritchard-Stapleton was jailed for nine months and Reynolds was handed a six-month suspended sentence after they both admitted fraud. The court heard Pritchard-Stapleton told Mrs Smith £1,100 had been paid into a Just Giving account raising money for a specialist wheelchair for a sick 15-year-old girl whose leg had been amputated. But prosecutor Jonathan Rogers said: ‘That was a load of rubbish. It was set up as part of this fraud to take money from the victim.’ Her brother, bodybuilder Jonathan Pritchard, admitted money laundering after some of the funds were moved into his bank account and spent within a fortnight. He was given a 12-month community order and ordered to carry out 200 hours’ unpaid work.

Family / One Couple’s Trials — And Triumph — Over Infertility by stellapatu: 6:16pm On Oct 16, 2019
“All I’ve ever wanted is to be a mom,” says Stephanie Cartin, 35. “I was not going to let anything stop me from letting that happen.”

Cartin’s determination paid off. She and her husband, Greg Cartin, 44, welcomed baby Mollie Hope in May after a number of serious obstacles along the way.

The Upper East Side couple married in 2015. The following year, they decided to undergo genetic testing in preparation for starting a family and found out that Stephanie, who has multiple sclerosis, was a carrier for Fragile X syndrome, a genetic condition that can cause severe developmental issues. Their fertility doctor suggested they use IVF so that they could screen out any affected embryos, but they worried about how the drugs associated with the procedure might affect Stephanie.

“We thought, ‘let’s try naturally for a year and see what happens,’” recalls Stephanie, who is the co-founder and co-CEO of social media and marketing agency SocialFly.

When they didn’t conceive on their own, they returned to the fertility doctor and tried intrauterine insemination (IUI) — a treatment in which a doctor places the sperm in a woman’s uterus, sometimes in conjunction with ovulation-stimulation medications.

“I wanted to avoid doing IVF if I could [because of] the expense and the hormones,” she says.

Their first round of IUI didn’t work, and Stephanie had bad side effects from a test.

Health / Man Died After Eating Fishcake So Hot It Burned His Throat by stellapatu: 7:37pm On Oct 14, 2019
A wedding planner died just 12 hours after sampling food at a venue when his throat was burned so badly he stopped breathing. Darren Hickey’s voice box swelled up after eating the food until he could no longer breath or swallow because of the pain and swelling. He had been given the fishcake by a chef just as he was leaving to go to a charity meeting at lunchtime on April 4. Darren, 51, realised something was wrong as the pain intensified and went to the Urgent Care Ward at Chorley Hospital but was sent home with paracetamol. He went back to his home in Bolton to rest but the swelling became worse and his partner Neil Parkinson heard him choking at 9pm.Neil said: ‘He shouted so I ran upstairs. He was stood up choking and coughing so I banged his back but then he slid forward onto the floor.’ Darren was taken to hospital but the damage was so far down his throat it could not be seen without specialist equipment and he died just after midnight.Acting senior coroner Alan Walsh said: ‘He was enormously positive and enormously caring and gave to charity – he was a very generous, caring and compassionate man. ‘He was a remarkably strong and resilient man to overcome that stroke.’ A pathologist said the case was very rare and is normally associated with people killed in house fires who inhale smoke, burning the airways. Dr Patrick Waugh said: ‘The patient can appear well, they will be talking to you, but then the swelling starts.’

Career / Wow, Homeless Man Goes From Being 'invisible' To Overnight Sensation Due To His by stellapatu: 1:09pm On Oct 12, 2019
A homeless man has gone from being "invisible" to an overnight sensation after he began designing and selling cotton bags in Birmingham.

Kevin World has managed to sell more than 200 of his hand-drawn bags in the city, with his sudden success taking him somewhat by surprise.

Mr World said his life is transformed after his bags - for which he only asks a "donation from the heart" - became an unexpected hit.

Each bag is uniquely designed, featuring puns. There is no fixed fee charged for the artwork but Kevin says on average people pay about £3 for a bag.Life on the streets has not been easy for him, as he suffers from depression and anxiety.

But since starting to draw less than a year ago, it has helped him cope.

He decided to combine the need to save on plastic bags and help the environment with his artistic skills.

Kevin said: “For years I've been putting on a mask and smiling but there's been a lot of tears behind that mask, now drawing is helping me interact with people.

“It passes the time away because a lot of people walk past and you do feel pretty invisible.”

His bag selling business is called The Bag Issue, a pun on The Big Issue magazine which is also sold by street vendors.

Fashion / Elton John Reveals Cruel Jibe His Mum Made About Husband That Led To 7 Year Shun by stellapatu: 12:56pm On Oct 12, 2019
Elton John has revealed the cruel jibe his mother made about his long-term partner that saw him stop speaking to her for seven years.

The music legend claimed his mum Sheila’s behaviour had become increasingly upsetting since he and David Furnish entered a civil partnership in 2005.

Her criticism of his life choices “amplified” with his mum full of bitterness and hatred for his work, his marriage and his life choices. However, it was the departure of Elton’s long-term PA Bob Halley that led to the mother-son relationship taking a deeply sour turn.

Following an explosive row, Bob quit his job working for Elton, leaving Elton’s mum furious.

In his new autobiography, Elton revealed: “Mum was absolutely livid when she heard Bob had left — they'd always got on well.

“She didn't want to hear my version of events, and told me that Bob had been more of a son to her than I'd ever been.”

At that point, Sheila’s words turned poisonous and she aimed her anger at Elton’s husband David.

Seething, she cruelly said: “You care more about that f***ing thing you married than your own mother.”

The jibe was enough for Elton to break his relationship with her.

The pair did not speak again for seven years, although Elton continued to look after her financiall

She was not invited when Elton and David turned their civil partnership into a formal marriage in 2014, which Elton described as “sad”.

Travel / Wow ,abu Dhabi Airport Staff Are Shocked As '123-year-old Passenger Arrives At T by stellapatu: 12:46pm On Oct 12, 2019
Staff at Abu Dhabi Airport have been left in shock after a man with a passport saying he is 123 years old walked through the terminal.

Swami Sivananda's passport says that he was born on August 8, 1896, in Behala, India.

Mr Sivananda had been travelling from Kolkata to London with Ethihad Airways and had a stop off in Dubai.

If the date on his passport is correct, Mr Sivananda would be the oldest person to have ever lived.

The elderly man lost both parents before he was six and was given away by his relatives to a spiritual guru, whom he travelled with around India before settling in Varanasi. It is hard to tell whether he actually is 123 because the only record of his age comes from a temple register.

It is certain that Mr Sivananda looks decades younger than his apparent 123 years, something that he puts down to yoga, discipline, and celibacy.

In 2016, he was reported on because of the date of birth on his passport and he said: 'I lead a simple and disciplined life. I eat very simply - only boiled food without oil or spices, rice and boiled daal (lentil stew) with a couple of green chillies.

Standing five feet two inches tall, Mr Sivananda sleeps on a mat on the floor and uses a wooden slab as a pillow.

'I avoid taking milk or fruits because I think these are fancy foods. In my childhood I slept many days on an empty stomach,' he said.

Travel / Rich Kid Cries When She Arrives At £180 Camping Holiday As It's 'too Stressful' by stellapatu: 1:10pm On Oct 11, 2019
An heiress who usually enjoys lavish holidays in The Maldives with her family was left sobbing when she tried out a rather more modest getaway for a TV experiment.

At first, Hattie Garmant, 19, from Hemel Hampstead thought she would be able to handle a weekend of camping for 5Star's Rich Kids, Skint Holiday, which airs tonight.

She was matched with Pete and Louise Hayward and their daughters Katie, seven, and Chloe, four, who decided to take her to a camping site for a three-day stay.

But within an hour, the heiress, who is used to splashing her cash on designer clothes and beauty treatments, was shocked to tears when it started raining.

'I thought I'd been able to handle more stuff,' she said. 'It's like, "how can people have fun doing this?".'

'I feel a bit overwhelmed. Ideally I'd rather be in a hot country, with sun and sea, compared to rain and sleeping in a tent.'

The young woman was not expecting to be going camping and struggled to cope from the moment the family arrived at Dernwood Farm.

Hattie's father funds her lifestyle and her love of labels. She owns a collection of Gucci trainers, heels, Versace blouses, Burberry coats and morThe heiress has never had to worry about money in her life, and explained that she can spend between £500 and £1,000 on makeup and beauty treatments a month.

The family's last holiday was in the Maldives, and thought it cost a grand total of £8,000 - £2,000 per person - the heiress admitted she found the experience boring.

Later in the day, things became awkward over dinner when Hattie revealed her Gucci trainers cost more than £700, to a shocked Pete and Louise.

'What you're wearing is five times more expensive than my wardrobe,' Pete joked.

Pete, an oven cleaner, and Louise, a weight loss consultant, are both self-employed and sometimes struggle to make ends meet.

This camping adventure was the Haywards' first holiday as a family, and it took them six months to save up the £180 fee for the two-nights stay.

And Hattie didn't do herself any favours by adding that her parents give her a £500 allowance to cover her commute, even though she is working and earning a salary.

Family / Angry Husband, 57, Told Friend He 'wished His Pregnant Wife Dead' Just Weeks Bef by stellapatu: 12:57pm On Oct 11, 2019
An 'angry' husband went on an expletive-filled rant to a friend where he 'wished his pregnant wife was dead' just weeks before she disappeared without trace 20 years ago, a court has heard.

Andrew Griggs, 57, is accused of murdering his wife Debbie Griggs, then aged 34, and dumping her body 20 years ago.

The mother-of-three has not been seen since May 5, 1999. Prosecutors say she thought her husband was having an affair with a 15-year-old girl.

He claims that his wife left their young family late at night of her own accord.

Just a fortnight before her disappearance, Mr Griggs told a friend 'he wished her dead', Canterbury Crown Court heard on Monday.

The keen sailor visited Peter Marks - a welder in Deal, Kent, where the couple lived - for work on his boat and shop.

The court heard Mr Marks noticed that Mr Griggs 'did not seem his normal self'.

'He responded saying that he was having a lot of trouble at home,' Duncan Atkinson QC, prosecuting, explained.

'It was with his wife, related to money.'

Mr Marks told the court: 'He was very agitated, very loud and obviously swore a lot in relation to his wife.'

The jury heard he called his pregnant wife a 'c***'. Mr Marks continued: 'He said that she was going to take half of his business. And his belongings and everything he owned.'

Mr Marks told the court: 'There were expletives. He said he wished her dead. He was very serious in my opinion. Very angry and serious.'

The court heard Mr Griggs returned to see the welder a week later, and went on another expletive-filled rant about this wife.

Nic Lobbenberg QC, defending, responded: 'People use I am going to kill you as a turn of phrase.

'He was very angry, and at that time he was very angry with his wife. It was no secret.'

The heartbroken family of Mrs Griggs told the court of the last time they saw her 20 years ago.

They recalled a devoted mother, who spent most of her time looking after her young children.

These images show the moment a couple stopped for for a bite to eat in McDonald's just moments after they tied the knot.

Reuben and Hayley Szekely, of Clitheroe, felt a bit peckish while travelling between their ceremony at Kingdom Hall in Rawtenstall and wedding reception venue in Buxton.

The couple previously joked they might get a McDonald's and on a whim decided to pay the branch in Rawtenstall a visit while dressed in their full wedding gear.

Wedding photographer Paula Mottram captured the newly-weds tucking into cheeseburgers and chips while sat at a table inside the fast food restaurant.Reuben, 25, and Hayley, 22, completed their celebrations at The Old Hall Hotel, in Buxton, and described the day as "amazing".

The couple told the M.E.N: "It was absolutely packed, there were 50 people with their mobile phones out.

"We went to the counter, all of the McDonald's staff wanted to serve us.

"They gave us free meals. We had chicken nuggets, four cheese burgers, a mango smoothie.

Health / Mum Who Had Miscarriages And Ectopic Pregnancy Sells Home To Fund IVF by stellapatu: 7:59pm On Oct 04, 2019
A mother who was desperate to give her son a sibling sold her home and business to pay for £25,000 IVF.

Gemma Chalmers, 36, spent a decade trying for her dream family before she finally got pregnant with her son, Kayle, now four.

She and partner John Jones, 37, had both grown up alongside siblings and were desperate for their son to have the same experience.

Last year, after more difficulties getting pregnant naturally, the couple decided it was time to try IVF.

But the partners, from Aberdeen, had to make sacrifices to pay for the procedure, which normally costs £2,000 to £3,000 per cycle. The couple decided to go through with IVF last year when Ms Chalmers suffered her second ectopic pregnancy – when the embryo attaches outside the uterus and cannot grow.

But the couple had to sell their flat and mobile beauty business to raise the £25,000 needed for the procedure.

It all paid off when they welcomed daughter Lilly into the world earlier this year. Ms Chalmers, now a full-time mother, said: 'We desperately wanted a sibling for Kayle.

'He got on so well with his cousins who were a similar age, so we knew he would be great with a little brother or sister too.

'I have two brothers and my partner has a brother as well so we both know how good it is to have siblings.

'John and I wanted Kayle to have someone to play with and fight with - like kids do - as it's a great part of childhood.

'Kayle loves having a little sister and has been protective of her from day one. He was that excited about her arrival, he used to lift my top up in the street to kiss my belly.

'The moment he came to see her in hospital for the first time, he immediately went over to her and asked to hold her. Seeing that moment made all the injections and heartache worthwhile.

Travel / A Driver Is Jailed For 24 Weeks After Running Over And Killing Great-grandfather by stellapatu: 7:46pm On Oct 04, 2019
A driver has been jailed for six months after running over and killing a great-grandfather who was delivering a birthday card to one of his grandchildren.

Zac Baker, 23, had gone home from work for lunch when he knocked over Steve Phillips, 73, as the 'beloved grampy' stood next to his car on a street in Swansea.

Mr Phillips was visiting his granddaughter Hannah at her home in the Treboeth area of the city to drop off the card on July 23 last year at about 2pm.

Baker reversed out of the drive of his house and pulled off, returning to work - before his Renault Clio collided with Mr Phillips's car and knocked over the pensioner.

Swansea Crown Court heard Mr Phillips' granddaughter was just yards away from the crash, but had looked down to pick up her daughter seconds before the impact.Relatives and neighbours ran to help Mr Phillips, and a car jack was used to lift Baker's Clio. However, he had suffered 'catastrophic' injuries and could not be saved.

The court heard a 'shocked' Baker remained at the scene, repeatedly telling people in the street 'I'm sorry I didn't see him'.

When police arrived he was said to be 'visibly upset', and in his subsequent interview said he remembered feeling a bump and the car 'jerking' to the left.

Mr Phillips, who was a grandfather of six and great-grandfather of one, was described by his family as a loving husband and father and a 'beloved grampy'.

Stephen Rees, prosecuting, told the court crash investigators later concluded Baker must have clipped the kerb on the right-hand side of the narrow one-way street.

Crime / A Tennessee Man, 23, Is Arrested For 'stalking His Ex-girlfriend By Calling Her by stellapatu: 7:23pm On Oct 04, 2019
A Tennessee man was arrested for stalking his ex-girlfriend after he allegedly contacted her multiple times and used his vehicle to prevent her from exiting the highway.

Derrius Deshotel, 23, of Nashville was taken into police custody on September 19 after a series of disturbing interactions between his unidentified ex-girlfriend over the course of three months.

According to Scoop Nashville, Deshotel's concerning behavior began after his ex-girlfriend of five month broke up with him in June.

In the following two months, the victim reported receiving roughly 50 emails, 157 phone calls and was contacted by Deshotel on 22 separate Instagram and Twitter accounts. The victim reportedly told Deshotel to cease contact multiple times to no avail.

Deshotel allegedly drove through her neighborhood to watch her.

Later, the victim told authorities that Deshotel showed up at her backdoor on August 19, but refused to leave.

He was reportedly, 'waiting for her to talk to him'.

Deshotel stood outside her home for an hour, prompting the victim to contact authorities for assistance and an order of protection.

Afterwards, Deshotel sent her an email saying she had 'started a war.'

He said: 'You thought that was gone to solve everything? LMAOOOOO. You ain't do s*** but make it worse. LMAO. Once it's up it's stuck and you just started a war.'

Scoop Nashville reports a warrant was issued for Deshotel, but at the time he could not be immediately located or served. The victim later alerted authorities on September 16 that Deshotel called her more than 100 times since September 13, leaving a series of voicemails.

She was also forced to flag down police officers on September 13 after he showed up at her home unannounced and proceeded to follow her vehicle when she left the property.

The victim attempted to separate herself by speeding up her car, but Deshotel reportedly followed her lead and kept close to her rear bumper.

She was eventually able to pull off the interstate.

Health / 'I Need To Mind My Baby' - First Time Mum On Repeat Cancer Diagnosis by stellapatu: 12:06pm On Sep 30, 2019
Shannen Joyce (24) was just 19 years old when she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma on July 4, 2014. Exactly five years on from the horror diagnosis, the brave mum-of-one is now fighting stage 3 cancer and battling for her life for a second time.

Selflessly deciding to share her journey on Instagram, the Corkonian explains why her partner Barry and daughter Roisin (2) give her the strength to carry on.
Speaking of her initial diagnosis, the Recreation and Leisure graduate says: “I had been sick for about two weeks leading up to being hospitalised. I was still playing camogie, sitting college exams, leading a normal life, but I was tired all the time.

After a camogie session one night, Shannen felt a lump on her left groin area. It was “the size of a ping-pong ball, maybe a little smaller, but it was distinct”.“I went to my physio because I thought it was a groin strain, but I was immediately sent for further medical advice.” Shannen says she was initially diagnosed with an ingrown hair which had most likely become infected.

She says she was prescribed antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and painkillers but despite the medication, her condition continued to deteriorate.

“I was vomiting, I had night sweats, extreme fatigue and lost weight rapidly, so I went back to the doctor.

“A few days later, I was still vomiting and couldn’t even get out of bed.”

After further consultation, Shannen says she was sent to the hospital A&E unit.

“I was diagnosed and had to go for a PET scan to see how advanced [the cancer] was.

“I had a bone marrow biopsy and aspiration done before there was a treatment plan made, and I started treatment six days later.

Family / Family On Holiday With Young Baby 'told To Pay £1,000 Thomas Cook Debt' At Tener by stellapatu: 11:52am On Sep 30, 2019
A devastated mum claims she is being forced by her hotel in Tenerife to cough up £1,000 owed to them by Thomas Cook or be booted out on the streets.

Stacey Robinson broke down in tears when staff at the beach resort of Playa de las Américas reportedly informed her she had two hours to stump up the cash.

She was halfway through her holiday with partner Ste and nine month-old daughter, Olivia, when the tour operator collapsed, reports Manchester Evening News.

The 28-year-old from Bolton says she woke up to find a note under the door to her hotel room on Monday morning, telling her to contact reception immediately.

She claims that hotel reception staff handed her a piece of paper with a sum of £1,038 written on it, believed to be owed by Thomas Cook.Stacey says she was told to pay the sum within two hours, or face being chucked out of their room.

The travel giant went into liquidation after failing to secure a last-minute rescue deal, leaving thousands of holidaymakers stranded abroad.

A major repatriation process is currently underway to ensure all 150,000 Brits stranded abroad can return home.

Stacey says she checked her situation, and is booked onto a return flight with the Civil Aviation Authority on September 30.

But now she faces being kicked out of her hotel a week early if they cant stump up the extra cash, despite having forked out £1,600 for the original holiday.

Fashion / Woman Dresses As Cinderella With Glass Arm To Show Kids It's Ok To Be Different by stellapatu: 11:24am On Sep 30, 2019
Mandy Pursely had her right arm amputated as a child and she says she struggled not seeing anyone who looked like her in the media. When she was contacted by a friend if she had any pictures she could share with a little girl who had one arm, she decided to show that girls with prosthetics could be princesses too. She posted pictures of herself in an amazing handmade Cinderella costume, with a glass arm instead of a glass slipper.Mandy took the pictures earlier this summer for a costume competition but a medical problem meant she couldn’t compete in the end and she was going to save them for next year. But hearing about the little girl who was looking for someone like her, Mandy decided to show the world her take on the fairytale. She said: ‘When my daughter was studying Cinderella stories at school last year, I realized that even though there were so many beautiful tales from around the world, there were still no princesses who looked like me.‘When I was growing up with a physical difference, I never saw girls like myself represented in the media, so it took me a long time to realize that what makes us different can also be the thing that makes us strong, beautiful, and unapologetically unique.
‘So what do you do when you can’t find a princess like you? You make up your own!’ Mandy spent hours making her ballgown and a prince’s uniform for the cosplay and she approached artist Gilbert Lozano to ask him to help her to design the glass arm. With the help of a construction company and a medical clinic, she was able to create a glass arm she could wear. She put the whole costume together and posed with her husband Ryan to create the amazing pictures, taken by photographer Kelly Anderson.

Fashion / Girl, 9, Who Lost Both Legs To A Rare Disease Makes History By Becoming The Firs by stellapatu: 2:07pm On Sep 23, 2019
A nine-year-old model, whose legs were amputated when she was a baby, has become the first double amputee child to walk the runway at New York Fashion Week.

Daisy-May Demetre, from Birmingham, said she felt 'really proud of herself' when she stormed the catwalk for childrenswear brand Lulu et Gigi during the bi-annual event on Sunday.

The schoolgirl, who is also set to grace Paris Fashion Week later this month, wore a gorgeous red gown with a gold lace overlay for her debut in New York.

Her father Alex Demetre, 36, told the BBC that she was 'amazing' at the event and 'felt really proud of herself' for her achievement.Daisy-May was born with fibular hemimelia, a rare defect that occurs in only one in 40,000 births where all or part of the fibula – the calf bone – is missing, meaning she had both legs amputated when she was just 18 months old.

She was joined by her older sister Ella, 11, on the catwalk of the high fashion event.

Her father said: 'Daisy and Ella both did amazing. [Daisy] walked it like a professional and had fun doing it.

She felt really proud of herself for what she achieved.'

Daisy-May has been modelling since she was eight, and was invited to walk in New York after Lulu et Gigi founder Eni Heged?s-Buiron spotted her at London Kid's Fashion Week.

The designer dubbed Daisy 'beautiful and perfect', when she revealed she would be the first double amputee child to walk in an official New York Fashion Week show earlier this year.

Alongside her success at fashion events around the world, Daisy-May has also fronted a campaign for River Island, and modelled for the likes of Nike, Boden and Matalan.

Fashion / Bride Plans Entire Fake Wedding So She Can Propose To The Best Man by stellapatu: 1:51pm On Sep 23, 2019
A woman surprised her partner in the most elaborate way possible.

Paul Schoproni, 40, thought he was on best man duty when his girlfriend arrived and walked down the aisle in a wedding dress.

Guests at the wedding were all in on the secret, while Paul was led to believe he was best man for the couple's friends on their big day.

Aleasha Pilawa told how Paul had been asking her to marry him for years, so thought she'd surprise him by proposing herself.

In a video shot by a wedding guest, Aleasha can be seen dancing down the aisle in a bridal gown while belting out a rendition of 1978 Motown hit it Should've Been Me.

It takes a moment for Paul to realise what's happening and when he does he punches the air with joy. When she reaches Paul, Aleasha gets down on one knee and asks: "Will you marry me?"

Paul is unable to resist getting his own back and replies "no" before pretending to run away, however, he quickly returns and accepts Aleasha's proposal.

According to Wales Online , the surprise took place in Bargoed, Wales.

Speaking about her elaborate plan, Aleasha said: "For the last two years he’s proposed to me about 30 times a day.

"I’m doing a degree in HR management and running two tyre repair garages so having someone asking to marry you all the time can be exhausting.

Health / Mother, 25, Gives Birth In A COMA After Suffering A Catastrophic Brain Bleed At by stellapatu: 9:14pm On Sep 22, 2019
A woman has given birth while in a coma after she suffered a catastrophic brain bleed while she was 32 weeks pregnant.

Caitlin Stubbs was rushed to Royal Brisbane Hospital on July 23 when she suffered the bleed as a result of an Arteriovenous Malformation in her brain, meaning her blood vessels had become tangled.

The 25-year-old fell into a coma, so a day later doctors had no option but to remove the baby via caesarean.

Ms Stubbs is yet to find out that she gave birth to a healthy baby girl, named Quinn, as she continues to fight for her life.

Quinn spent the first three weeks of her life in intensive care but Ms Stubbs' fiance, Jonathon Welsh is caring for the newborn while staying by his partner's side.

The young mother first suffered a smaller brain bleed in November with plans to undergo radiation treatment to help with her condition.

The radiation had to be put off as Ms Stubbs then realised that she had fallen pregnant.

But on July 23 the young mother began to feel unwell, vomiting and complaining of a neck ache.

When her condition worsened, Mr Welsh called an ambulance for his partner who fell into a coma before she even made it to the hospital.Mr Welsh had gotten down on one knee and proposed just weeks prior.

When Ms Stubbs got to the hospital, doctors made the decision to perform the emergency c-section as they held grave fears neither her or the baby would make it through the night.

Luckily, Quinn is now a healthy baby and her mother is also making slow progress.

'They said they didn't think she'd make it through the night, and everything was pretty negative but I knew she would make it,' Mr Welsh told Nine News.

She is slowly regaining consciousness, but doctors say she has a long road of recovery ahead of her.

Events / Teacher Unexpectedly Gives Birth On Sidewalk Outside Middle School, Principal Co by stellapatu: 9:00pm On Sep 22, 2019
A Denver middle school teacher kicked off the new year in dramatic fashion by giving birth on a campus sidewalk.

Lindsay Agbalokwu, 33, welcomed her daughter Zara on Tuesday outside DSST: Conservatory Green in Stapleton, Colorado.

She had woken up that morning with cramps but wrote them off as Braxton Hicks contractions, also known as false labor pains, because she wasn't due until September 17.

Unfazed by the pain, the sixth grade reading teacher went to work at DSST: Conservatory Green in Stapleton, Colorado, and carried on with her busy day.

Agbalokwu made it through an awards assembly before the cramps worsened to the point that she realized she was in labor. 'In the classroom, the pain went from zero to 100,' the mother told Yahoo

Fellow teacher Marissa Kast stepped in to cover Agbalokwu's classroom as Principal Natalie Lewis and Dean of Students Chris Earls escorted her outside.

They put a sleeping bag on the ground for Agbalokwu to lie on while she waited for an ambulance arrived, but her newborn daughter wasn't in the mood to wait.

A 911 dispatcher gave delivery instructions to Lewis and Earls, who coached her through several 'terribly painful minutes' as baby Zara came into the world.

Crime / Mum's Boyfriend Admits Killing Alfie Lamb, 3, Who Was Crushed To Death By Car Se by stellapatu: 8:44pm On Sep 22, 2019
A man has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Alfie Lamb who was crushed to death by a car seat.

Stephen Waterson, 26, admitted to killing the three-year-old son of his girlfriend Adrian Hoare at an appearance at the Old Bailey this afternoon.

A jury was unable to reach a verdict on the same charge in a trial which ended in March.

Alfie was killed in February 2018 when he was fatally crushed after being placed in the rear footwell of Waterson's Audi convertible.

He collapsed by the time the car reached Croydon and died in hospital three days later.

Afterwards, Waterson, adopted son of former Tory minister Nigel Waterson, orchestrated a cover-up to avoid being implicated in the death.

In March Alfie's mother, Adrian Hoare, was cleared of manslaughter but found guilty of child cruelty and assaulting another witness 19-year-old Emilie Williams.Hoare and Williams had been in the Audi along with Waterson and Marcus Lamb when Alfie was fatally crushed.

They had been on a shopping trip in Sutton.

Jurors were shown CCTV of Alfie running to keep up with his mum moments before he was put in the car.

In a police interview played to the court, 19-year-old Ms Williams said Waterson's seat "was right back... because he said he had to stretch his legs right out".

"Alfie was kicking the chair, asking him to move it forward" but apart from shifting it "for a few seconds", Waterson refused, the jury heard.

It was alleged Waterson, a nightclub worker, became annoyed at Alfie's crying and twice moved his front passenger seat into him as he sat at his mother's feet.

When Alfie sobbed he did not have enough space Waterson was alleged to have said: "I'm not being told what to do by a three-year-old," and pushed the seat back again 'in a fit of childish temper'.

Despite Alfie's distress, Hoare said the boy was "getting himself worked up" and she told him to "shut up", Ms Williams said.

Health / Kayaker, 22, Chose To Have Her Right Leg Amputated After An Accident In The Wate by stellapatu: 9:26am On Sep 19, 2019
A woman has told how she chose to have her leg amputated after a minor accident left her in constant pain.

Helena Stone, of north London, developed complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), dubbed 'suicide disease', after a kayaking accident six years ago.

Despite being told she would be 'fine in two weeks', the pain 'never went away', with Miss Stone comparing it to 'burning barbed wire round her leg'.

Unable to walk or even shower, the 22-year-old made the dramatic decision to have her right leg amputated on September 3.

Nearly two weeks on, Miss Stone is getting about on crutches and will shortly start rehabilitation to learn how to walk on prosthetics.Far from being put off kayaking, she hopes to one day represent the UK in the sport at the Paralympics.

Miss Stone, from Islington, was 16 when her leg became trapped while kayaking in Wales.

'My foot got caught in the water and my leg got pulled,' she said. 'I knew it was bad enough that I went to A&E, but I thought it was temporary.

'They sent me away on crutches and said I'd be fine in two weeks. The pain never went away.

'It was like someone had tied a burning barbed wire round my leg and pulled it tight.'

Over the next six years, Miss Stone endured spinal injections, physiotherapy and even ketamine infusions but nothing rid her of the pain.

'I would always have a baseline level of pain but anything could trigger it to become unbearable,' she said.

'It wasn't just a simple knock or bash. Changes in air pressure could set it off. People didn't want to sit next to me in case they brushed it.

'I couldn't even have a shower without breaking down.' Miss Stone first considered amputating her right leg in January.

A SIX-WEEK-OLD baby is fighting for life, desperate for a heart transplant after a rare defect caused him to have two cardiac arrests.

Little Charlie Douthewaite is the youngest patient waiting for a heart transplant and has already endured nine surgeries and more than 20 blood transfusions.

Tracie Wright, 30, and Steven Douthewaite, 32, were given the devastating news their baby was suffering from a rare heart defect at their 20-week scan.

After considering an abortion, the parents-of-three were adamant that their son deserved a chance at life.

Charlie was fitted with a shunt to control blood flow in his heart when he was just three days old.

But four days later Charlie suffered his first cardiac arrest and has been on life support ever since.Despite several surgeries to mend his tiny heart Tracie and Steven were told Charlie needs a new heart three weeks ago.

Tracie, of Fenham, Newcastle, said: “When we found out Charlie had hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) at his 20-week scan we were absolutely devastated.

“We had never even heard of it before so we didn't know what to think.

“We were in total shock, especially after having two other pregnancies without any complications.

“We thought about a termination but we were adamant that Charlie deserved a chance to live and a chance to fight.

“Charlie is such a little fighter, we are so proud of him. He has endured more in such a short time than most adults could.”
